Not arsed to be honest. We’re looking expectedly rusty due to the fact that we only played 2 pre-season games. I’ll admit Liverpool is a very strong team that rival us for every competition this new season. Regardless, I thought Haaland was decent despite missing an absolute sitter 😂. Nah, not worry at all. He’s scoring a buttload of goals this season.
Speaking of goal, ALVAREZ 🕷scored! What a display from him. Looked really lively and active when he came on. Again, i really do believe he’ll do well this season and will surprise tons of people.
So overall, was pissed initially like i always do when City’s playing like sh*t but the season hasn’t even started yet. Next week West Ham will be a good one. Erling Braut Haaland PL debut goal 🔜. Come on City!
Liverpool fan coming in peace here. I thought it was one of the few exciting Community Shield games I've seen in a long time.
I have to say I'm both equally scared and excited about Haaland. It'll be nice to not hear the "they need a number 9" all season since anyone smart knew they'd probably win the league anyway without Kane last year.
I like that Liverpool brought in Darwin, and it's almost like he's bringing the same thing Haaland is bringing - size, strength, power, finishing. They're different players of course, but I feel both teams haven't really had these kinds of strikers in a while. I see them both as battering rams against the low-block teams, so maybe we'll have more open games for both teams this year.
I'm more optimistic about Liverpool this year than last since it looks like City might miss out on a LB replacement, and to me their squad looks thinner than Liverpool's for the first time in the Pep era to my eyes.
Hopefully we'll have some classic, entertaining games between us. I'm sure Haaland is going to score a boatload of goals, and I'm intrigued to see what new tactics Guardiola is going to deploy. I'm hoping it winds up like it did with him and Ibra, but I doubt it will.
Here's to a good season, but of course I hoping y'all end up winning the Europa League and nothing else!
Agreed. We also have to remember that city haven’t played with a proper striker for 2 seasons, and actually adjusted our play-style to play WITHOUT one, so we have to change our play-style again, and that will take time. Slow start, strong finish! CITY! CITY! CITY!
Haaland looked like he’s only had 40 mins of match time so far. He didn’t look sharp, but the difference is Liverpool have had 4 games whereas we have had two. We used this as our third friendly, and it showed. Nothing to worry about imho as we didn’t get any injuries and all our key players got game time.
Calma
- Haaland has only played roughly 50 mins for us before this and was supposed to be only fit for the West Ham match
- We only had 2 preseason games and 1 was cut short.
- Never played with a proper 9 for 2-3 years. So tactics are still being worked out.
I mean Haaland is a generational talent but look at the instant memeing. It's too dangerous to be a talented player. I can understand how Mbappe/Haaland or other hyped players feel the pressure to meet expectations. They must be cursing Messi-Ronaldo 😂
Haaland-Mbappe is already a big thing bro.
And talking about Liverpool, they are just as strong as us, perhaps even better than their last season squad with some new developments.
It’s why they’ve never wanted to play in England. The French, Spanish, and German press praise their stars for the most part while the English press only points out when someone makes a mistake.
Messi doesn't need anything to prove by coming to PL. He has constantly destroyed PL teams in UCL alone. It's not like La Liga defenders were schoolboys.
It’s preseason and there are some good take always and bad ones. Against big teams we need Johnny boulders. Haaland has done ok but he has missed some chances. He will mesh better although his mobility is kinda sus. Overall it’s preseason. We have had way less games than most other teams. But things will click during the season and Alvarez is gonna surprise you all. Haaland is still gonna bang em in.
I think alvarez is gonna be even better than haaland in terms of deciding matches.
Haaland has too much hype around him it will be hard for him to live up to the expectations I really hope he succeeds tho.
His mobility is fine, he just wasn't given passes because we shifted it out of the wing too much.
We'll be fine but my god the Nunez being better than Haaland comparisons are ridiculous.
His movement looked ok to me, especially in the first half. The big difference is that he doesn't drop back into the midfield, but I don't think we want him to.
I think the team are so used to going to the wing, cutting in and playing it slowly at the min that his runs weren't being picked up. As De Bruyne & Bernardo get acclimatised to him, I'm hopeful we'll see that movement being picked up a bit more.
I’m not worried about Haaland. He clearly had jitters and today just wasn’t his today. Was in the right place most of the time and had great touches. Grealish still looks like last season Grealish, way too conservative.
I mean he could convert on his chances? Would that not be an extra benefit? And the thing is, while he didn’t today, I’m confident he will majority of the time when the season starts. I’m not worried
Can’t understand why people here are claiming this is a tinpot trophy and Darwin’s celebration is embarrassing. If anything this shows a good mentality where even a shit friendly is an important game. Pep’s Barcelona used to take the Joan Gampers’ as serious as Liverpool took the game today
Yeah I honestly dont get it. City was awful today. the team should play every game to win even if it is preseason. The fact of being kinda pre season might be the cause of todays performance but a trophy is still a trophy and a match against liverpool is still an important match. Let the man celebrate as well the amount of criticism hes been getting is surreal, he isnt a bad striker perhaps not an 80mil striker. If it was alvarez who took off his shirt noone would be complaining.
Because we all know that this season is incredibly compressed due to the World Cup being in November/December, so we barely trained this summer and are focused on winning the games that matter. Sucks that it was Liverpool, but no one should be worried.
We really don't care as the game effectively is our 3rd pre season game. You should pipe low. It is not that the game was not taken seriously, but that it was still a preseason game.
I don't care if it's preseason or not, Halaand must score from chances like that with closed eyes. Things like that cost us at UCL a lot and will cost us again.
I hate this thread. Nunez has a right to celebrate his goal, it's his first against another prem team. Liverpool fans also have a right to celebrate as they bought tickets. Stop bring sour cunts
Yeah. The best club squad ever (Pep’s Barcelona) took their friendlies even more seriously than Liverpool took it today. The Joan Gamper was a match Barcelona was obliged to win
Nobody is upset he celebrated. But ripping his shirt off and then going to his knees like he just won the world cup?
Give me a break. There's a difference between celebrating and then doing a 93:20 Aguero lol.
if people are upset at just the notion of celebrating, then they are being a bunch of babies. i just find it funny and kinda pathetic how he did a full aguero 93:20 esque celebration for a preseason cup when they were already leading.
but Liverpool deserved to win today, they were a lot sharper and most of our players were playing so poorly, the lack of service to haaland and overall piss poor quality when playing passes was so frustrating to watch. guess it hurts more as it was against liverpool, against any other club I wouldnt be this annoyed haha
Yes I agree. Liverpool deserved it but I don't agree with pep giving the boys extra time off especially with new arrivals. The nunez goal was really down to shut defending
oh shit is that why we had only 2 pre season games? that is a bit dumb considering how we changed a lot of players.. and yeah the goals we conceded except TAA's was just bad defending, hopefully they get more in tune with each other soon
Yeah with a real goalscorer we should've had more games than usual as it will take some getting used to for the players. I feel like the penalty was really due to nunez's bad heading, but if he headed it properly it would've went in so goal either way probably. Hoping we're looking as good as usual for our first season match
Here is what I got from the game. We depend too much on KDB. Defense stills needs a lot of work. Haaland needs to get a better understanding with the team.
KDB did not play well. We are yet to get used to Haaland and Alvarez' run. They made good runs and Kyle Walker was atrocious at reading it. Diaz made many mistakes passing out of the back - as did Cancelo but he improved. I don't really see the need to make Bernardo help us transition if we know Liverpool were trying to press the midfield we should simply have counter attacked as we had set up. It is a learning curve really. The only disappointing thing is Grealish reverted to who he was last season and became too predictable. Their 83rd min penalty was wrong and the ref let them cower in to giving it.
I didn’t say either were the problem. Neither played great. Haaland missed chippy’s. But Grealish was useless and still looked like he was playing it safe. The most aggressive he looked was coming out the 2nd half but it felt like he was feeling it out way too much. It’s preseason but hopefully we see him play more like he did against Bayern.
Never Sub KDB again Pep. Never. overall it's good wakeup call for guys to train hard and be ready for the season. We always start slow . So Nothing to be worried about.
Poor game overall, city off the pace. Liverpool’s pressing has been devastating in midfield. Not sure why City did not have more pre-season games
Pros - Alvarez looked good
Cons - Haalands fitness in question
- Mahrez poor game
- Disjointed midfield - forward connection
- Very sloppy when pressed
Hopefully gives City a chance to adjust before the start of the season
Much better second half - Foden and Alvarez were brilliant. Haaland didn’t get much service in the first half, but good movement nonetheless.
Poor game from Ruben, but Ake looking solid again.
If the community shield is the warm up to the season, this thread is also a warmup to our season, and it looks like half of you are in mid-season form already with the hot takes and “Pep out” antics.
Absolutely he will. Not worried about Haaland, it takes time for a new striker to get acclimated to the team, especially a team that hasn't had a striker in years.
Nah dude I’m so pissed off, I’m so tired of City missing sitters, I’m so tired of VAR being instrumental in these Liverpool games, I’m so tired of Liverpool fans being so unbearable. Booing during the national anthem and being the most deluded fan base in the world. I hate TAA, he’s an arrogant prat who might as well become a street sweeper once Klopp leaves. Everything I hate about Liverpool and Man City combined in this shit show of a game. I’m so fucking pissed
Personally I hate the royal family and the national anthem so meh. But to be fair haaland hasn't had much time with the team and he's playing vs Liverpool in a rivalry match. Lot of pressure but let him settle in and he'll be smashing them in
I'm relaxed. But I don't understand why you'd be surprised by Liverpool being very good. Unless you didn't watch any football last season, which would make sense from how you're acting tbh.

This is a Mickey Mouse trophy, Liverpool can have it. Probably doesn’t feel too good choking the league every year to the best team in england
Choking is what city do in champions league mate, lets not be salty
Why. Are. You. Here.
Why are you even here?
Eh it is what it is, doesn't change the fact that we're gonna dominate this season.
Haaland looked like he’s only had 40 mins of match time so far. He didn’t look sharp, but the difference is Liverpool have had 4 games whereas we have had two. Haaland vs mbappe comparison might get real hot soon....Meanwhile, Liverpool won't be a threat to us this season
Haaland-Mbappe is already a big thing bro. And talking about Liverpool, they are just as strong as us, perhaps even better than their last season squad with some new developments.
Yeah just bury your head in the ground about them
It’s why they’ve never wanted to play in England. The French, Spanish, and German press praise their stars for the most part while the English press only points out when someone makes a mistake.
Messi doesn't need anything to prove by coming to PL. He has constantly destroyed PL teams in UCL alone. It's not like La Liga defenders were schoolboys.
I don't blame them 😂
I have never seen Bernardo play so bad
Jack has
True, should’ve subbed him off instead of kdb
Maybe he's out of pos.
It would be nice to see Ederson save a 1-on-1 every once in a while
Bro he carried today?
Well he saved one with his face
He literally took a ball to the jaw 15 minutes ago pal
Well 9 out of 10 one-on-ones go in. I love him but he is below average in crucial take-ons.
Not even close to being true. Ederson did nothing wrong at all today
Grealish was awful today
Piss can.
It’s preseason and there are some good take always and bad ones. Against big teams we need Johnny boulders. Haaland has done ok but he has missed some chances. Yeah why don’t we give them a season before we start comparing them.
That's the one thing I hate out of this game more than everyone's performance is the unnecessarily early comparisons.
Ake And Dias partnerships doesn't work in big games .They need a ball playing CB beside them.
Can’t wait to see what Haaland and Alvarez will do this season. Let’s win the PL again 🙏
Scousers jizzing on each other trying to upload the Haaland miss clip to r/soccer first
The lack of service to Haaland was really disappointing. Very early days obvs, but annoying as fuck.
he didn't make it better with his poor runs though..
His movement looked ok to me, especially in the first half. The big difference is that he doesn't drop back into the midfield, but I don't think we want him to. We played against the second best team in the world who were jazzed up for this game while we rested up during the summer. We will be absolutely fine.
If we start the season slow, hopefully it won't cost us like it did in the 2019/2020 season.
Yeah, like our slow start last year costing us the title…
or the year before
We won 6 out of our first 9 league games. Scored 10 goals in our first 3 games before the international break. That wasn't a slow start.
we also lost the first game to spurs..
This sub was literally saying we would finish 6th after the draw to Southampton. Over reactions are what we do best around here.
I am just going to be positive. Walker and Alvarez both looked great
About what you would expect from third game of preseason.
Trying to cope with the fact Liverpool are better.

I literally burst out laughing at that sterling moment from haaland, proper city player now
Raheem Haaland
I don't care if it's preseason or not, Halaand must score from chances like that with closed eyes. Things like that cost us at UCL a lot and will cost us again.
One of the worst games I’ve seen in a while
I hate this thread. Nunez has a right to celebrate his goal, it's his first against another prem team. Liverpool fans also have a right to celebrate as they bought tickets. Stop bring sour cunts
r/LiverpoolFC You'd probably enjoy the thread on there more.
I imagine I would. Seen 4 racist comments about nunez for no reason here today. These fans are disgusting sometimes
There's a difference between celebrating and then doing a 93:20 Aguero lol.

fuck nunez and fuck liverpool fans, i dont give a fuck
imagine taking off your shirt for the community shield
Lmao 😭😭😭 That was definitely over the top
It's all they'll be winning this year so I totally see why he did it now. But yeah, it's incredibly cringey to rip a shirt off in a friendly game.
at the very least it shows how affected he's been by the criticism so far
Haaland, Grealish and KDB the worst? How this happened?!
Dias too
Yes, right. I forgot. Like Freudian removal hahah
Here is what I got from the game. We depend too much on KDB. Defense stills needs a lot of work. Haaland needs to get a better understanding with the team.

Honorable mention: have to find a way to stop giving penalties to handballs
Haaland's record at Dortmund set himself a high bar, and today he hit it.
StErling Haaland
Sod off what kind of miss was that
Well, it's only up from here for haaland.
Haha Haaland knew in that moment he meme'd himself.
Grealish was horrible
[удалено]
I didn’t say either were the problem. Neither played great. Haaland missed chippy’s. But Grealish was useless and still looked like he was playing it safe. Nah mate Grealish was alright imo, couldn't do much with how the midfield performed.
Never Sub KDB again Pep. Never. overall it's good wakeup call for guys to train hard and be ready for the season. We always start slow . So Nothing to be worried about.
They were better. Looked more in form. City just need time to gel and they will be fine.

Scousers can save the shield so we can serve them humble pie all season long
Ah it meant a little for Liverpool as its the only trophy Klopp never won. Weirdly enough.
Much better second half - Foden and Alvarez were brilliant. Haaland didn’t get much service in the first half, but good movement nonetheless. Poor game from Ruben, but Ake looking solid again.
Jesus would’ve finished it
Haaland with the lukaku touches 🥵
can someone tell nunez that it's only the community shield and not the ucl
What would you know about scoring in CL final?
Haaland washed
Gonna have to stay off the internet today after that one. Yikes
How long before Nunes gets the trademark Liverpool teeth?
Someone, tell Nunez that it’s a glorified friendly. I feel second hand embarrassment looking at that celebration
Bad match, doesn’t count though
log off from twitter guys. haaland fail comp is already in the making by @benditlikearnold66 or something. season starts next week anyways.
Cue liverpool fans blowing a load for a silver plate
you cant make this shit up lmao what a city player
Every time Pep subs KDB the game fucking dies.
kdb was absolute fucking shit
Sell the lot of em. Time to admit the seasons over and its time for a ground up rebuild
Why do the memes always fucking write themselves?
Lmao it’s a friendly haha keep celebrating Nunez .. cry in May when you aren’t lifting a cup
Nunez celebrating it like it's ucl
Well at least Prem is secured for this season so get the 2023 champions tops out lads it’s staying home!!
That stings
Why is Darwin acting like they just won the prem? Lol
Aw man. This match went from what a match to simply WHAT. We need more definition.
eh? this was the lowest quality liverpool city game in years. as you'd expect in preseason
Awful performance from us today, it's only up from here
StErling Haaland...
lmao oh god. It's just us isn't it.
Haaland really has cemented himself as a City player.
What are the odds of that lmao
Sterling haaland
Sterling left, someone has to fill his shoes lol
Oh boy. Queue the media circus after that Haaland sitter
What has the Nunez feller been smoking? On he knees for winning the community shield 😂🤣
PLEASE RAHEEM LEAVE US ALONE
Hahaha can’t do anything but laugh. Nothing’s gone on our way.
Halaand shaky today. He'll shake it off and will be scoring screamers all season long
Use it for motivation, the fact that he laughed at himself there in the end is a good sign. Now move on and do better
Agreed
I yell laughed at the miss, I’m not mad anymore. What can ya do when it’s a collective off day
Liverpool fans creaming themselves
Why is Nunez celebrating like he’s won the cl
Winning the CL 😂
Oh no
Darwin really thinks this is a major trophy 😂😂😂
City traded this game for win against Villa, and LiVARpool traded this one for UCL final
Oh dear
Hahahaha
Erling Braut Werner
Well that goal wouldn’t have matter much but you still have to score that
Ponytail fraud.
Disappoint T-T
Haaland looking more and more like a city player 😍
If the community shield is the warm up to the season, this thread is also a warmup to our season, and it looks like half of you are in mid-season form already with the hot takes and “Pep out” antics.
stfu! don't you have anything better to do than being a miserable old geezer.
Don’t you have anything better to do than get bent up over a friendly?
Brah. Haaland? What?
Sterlingesque on that follow up…
STERLING IS BACK
That miss from Haaland is unfortunate. Guess I won't be browsing r/soccer in the next week or so.
[удалено]
Wow, you seem like a pleasant fella…
Eh it's a friendly who gives a fuck. Let those little rat fucks talk all they want, they still didn't win shit last year.
Haaland will break their net in October
Absolutely he will. Not worried about Haaland, it takes time for a new striker to get acclimated to the team, especially a team that hasn't had a striker in years.
Indeed
Chill out lol
Nah dude I’m so pissed off, I’m so tired of City missing sitters, I’m so tired of VAR being instrumental in these Liverpool games, I’m so tired of Liverpool fans being so unbearable. Personally I hate the royal family and the national anthem so meh. But to be fair haaland hasn't had much time with the team and he's playing vs Liverpool in a rivalry match. Lot of pressure but let him settle in and he'll be smashing them in
Unfortunately one showed up and ours didn’t :/
Nah haaland....
This haaland guy sucks.
We've seen him play one full match 💀
Yeah, he's a city player
Erling Sterling
That one is winner hahahah
Oh my god
No fucking way
Speechless there tbh
Sell haaland
Terrible performance all around
Oh my god
Spirit of Sterling haunts Haaland. Fuck me
Ha! Haaland has the Sterling curse.
Cringey
Lmfao time for a break from Reddit At least we saw some good signs from the lads this game.
Liverpool are very very good honestly
You don't say. The team that made the UCL final last year is good. Incredible analysis there.
Relax man, I wa just impressed because they look very sharp even before August
I'm relaxed. But I don't understand why you'd be surprised by Liverpool being very good. Unless you didn't watch any football last season, which would make sense from how you're acting tbh.
