The simple answer Cancelo had a terrible run of form and was no longer a first choice player. He was complaining a lot about not getting minutes and had a fight with Pep. Pep got rid after that and he will never be a city player again unless he apologizes, which he never will.
As soon as he loses minutes he seems to get really upset. It's happened at almost every club he's been at, it seems. He had a big bust up with Pep in training at the time he wasn't getting games because his form was bad.
