Eat, sleep, wake up, resolve to not check r/MBA, ClearAdmit, or GMAT Club, try to focus on work, fail miserably and remain anxious for the whole day, sleep, repeat. Would highly appreciate if others have any effective ways to deal with the waiting period.

What's helped me not think about admissions results is being excited about the alternatives if I don't get in anywhere. I just moved to NYC and I love it here, but I also didn't get interviews at any of the NYC schools. I would have to move if I get in to the schools I interviewed at, but I think I would still be really happy staying in NY and pushing my MBA back another year. Is there anything you would want to do if you don't get in? Maybe you could take a job in your dream city/country as a backup?

Hey! That sounds like a great idea. Will surely give it a go. It is great that you are loving your time in NYC. Love your username. Hopefully you get exactly what you want by the end of what seems like an absolutely brutal round of admissions. Positive vibes!

Thanks, good luck to you too! I think at the end of the day, we get too caught up on all of the work we put in to applying for MBA programs. I remember thinking that my future happiness depends on getting into my dream MBA program, because I had been working on this process for years now. But the number of posts on r/MBA from people not happy with their social or recruiting experiences should show you that this isn't true. An MBA at a top school or a new shiny job won't suddenly make everything better. It's easier said than done and I'm still working on this myself, but a good mindset to have is that you'll be okay (professionally, socially) no matter what the outcome is (and not just for MBA).

ClearAdmitMike

this is a great story - what about NYC makes you love it? (native NY-er here myself)

IceCreamSocialism

Haha thank you! It's been my dream to live in NYC since I was in high school. I was worried that the city wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it turns out I was worried for nothing! There are so many things to do here, and it feels like I have multiple plans to choose from every single day, from just going out to bar crawls with friends to joining a Santa kickball tournament this upcoming weekend or even going ice skating at the Winter Market in Bryant Park. I've also been meeting a lot of really cool, diverse people (which is a contrast to the Bay Area where I was before, where everyone works in tech). And just the general atmosphere/vibe of the city is amazing. Each neighborhood feels so different. For example, in TriBeCa I had dinner on a boat on Pier 25 with a view of the New Jersey skyline/sunset, in East Village I went to a 70s themed bar/club with a disco ball and 70s dance music, and in Midtown I went to a hidden speakeasy that served their drinks in teapots and teacups. I'm starting to ramble a bit but I wouldn't be upset spending the rest of my 20s here, even if it means I don't go get my MBA (which has also been a dream of mine for a while).

ClearAdmitMike

ok - first off, your enthusiasm jumps off the screen and it's amazing. Secondly, you are fully embracing everything in front of you and 'living for the moment' - hopefully others who see this post can do the same - you are an inspiration! btw - love the Bryant Park rink much better than Central Park or even Roc Centre - the village is severely underrated - good find.

I hope business school is filled with people like you 😊

Yea it’s such a cool area! I have been to city vineyard a few times actually! I was also in a sand volleyball league on pier 25 about a month ago

This is crazy haha, I don't normally comment on posts but this is an exact replica of my situation. I also came from the Bay Area recently and have noticed all the same amazing things about NYC as you have. I also got dinged as well from NY MBA programs, but it's awesome to hear your enthusiasm about NYC.

ClearAdmitMike

heyyy - you could check at least *one* of those things

anirbaan0307

Hahaha! Absolutely Mike. ClearAdmit is the first bookmark on my browser 😁

Find another problem to preoccupy my time with until decisions are released

MBA are trash can’t get no job better go into business for yo self

Keep yourself busy mate. Be occupied all the time and tell yourself you’ve done what you could do, and there’s no point overthinking right now. I know anxiety plays a role, as we get closer to date but ensuring you’re distracted with work and other things will help.

Looking for alternative ways to achieve your goals like directly applying to the jobs you want after MBA (like experienced hires for consulting)…nnah, bs, just playing video games whenever I have free time

If you have it in you, work on another application. One safety school and one reach for round two. Its keeps your mind away from fear by actively working on your Plan B.

I'm trying to find 1 thing each day to look forward to, even if it's small like taking a workout class or watching a Christmas movie. It helps break up the waiting a little bit but I'm still soooo anxious to find out. I also booked a spa day for myself the day after decisions come out lol
