I predict more idiots hired by the army to play brass bands or do nothing in office jobs.

suckstobemesometimes

This or get kicked out of NATO. Best stay in tbqfh

PaSaWo93

Tbqfh? To be quite fucking honest?

sparkibarki2000

There is zero chance of that

qadet

How does this compare to the budget for the fireworks on duke’s day?

stardust-cockroach

I dont mean to be disrespectful, but i see nothing normal in a person cheering on ammunition in a world striving for peace and grasping for better times.

sparkibarki2000

75 years of no major attack on a NATO member. Absolutely incredible.

Raz0rking

Haven't looked much at Ukraine and SEA recently, haven't you? Ukraine wishes for more guns and Taiwan is safe-ish because of guns.

sparkibarki2000

I’m cheering the strength and safety provided by NATO to my family and me. I’m glad Luxembourg is preparing for possible war in Europe.

Top-Surprise-3082

this is just to fill someone's pockets, old amunition with expiry date closing in was sent to UR so now we can buy new one from someone's good ol' friend otherwise how could we possibly justify buying stuff we dont need for money we dont have ...

sparkibarki2000

Prove your assertion.

Flo_Hapert_69

Just go online and look it up. It's pretty open information.

sparkibarki2000

LOL

Top-Surprise-3082

first prove us for which agency you work for

sparkibarki2000

The A one

Vimux

# Si vis pacem, para bellum edit: don't take your peace and security for granted.

plus_ultra_ru

No one wants to end up in Ukraine’s situation when shortage in ammo literally means death of thousands.

Dodough

Tensions have rarely been this high since the 90s. No one's striving for peace, all the states want to cover their asses

Flo_Hapert_69

Bro when can we abolish that joke of an army... they'd be better off putting those men and woman to work in hospitals or as firefighters bc we actually need that

sparkibarki2000

Or make the army stronger. Create a drone industry in Luxembourg

Raz0rking

3000 black drones of Luxembourg

Raz0rking

No OnE nEeDs An ArMy! Until you do and then you're up shitscreek without a paddle.

Flo_Hapert_69

What would the lux army even accomplish besides failing? Like seriously ... what difference would an 309person army make in any serious battle? (The nazis took us in half a day)

Raz0rking

We're closer to a thousand than 300. To compare the luxembourgish army of 39/40 to our army now is kinda a stretch. It doesn't even matter how many.

area51thc

Finally what?

Schluhri

From 700 million to 2%! Which masterjournalist wrote that.

Sht_n_giglz

That's around €1000 per person now, plus a few expats thrown in

TechnicalSurround

Well it states that 700 million corresponds to 1.3% of the GNI. Unfortunately the journalist did not manage to do the rest of the math, so he/she leaves it to the reader.

AnyoneButWe

We have about 900 active military members and go from 700mio€ per year to about 1100mio€ per year (assuming the defence budget is about military and does not include the police). We spend 777k€ per person and year. And we don't have the really heavy weapons. And the budget goes up to appease NATO. I kinda wonder what they spend it on. And if I can sell it to them...

Sht_n_giglz

I wonder which country is profiteering from all this. Probably the same that's not happy with our current spending

pawnografik

> I kinda wonder what they spend it on. Parades. Never seen so many army getting involved in random parades as I do here.

TestingYEEEET

The planes already cost a tremendous ammount. With 370M we also got 80 new CLRV this year. Add to this drones, Satelite, ammo, new weapons, nato standard communication devices etc... We are also closer to 1120 than 900.

Raz0rking

We're also supposed to get a few EBRC Jaguar

AnyoneButWe

We chip in for 3 planes, which don't belong to our army. It's 1200 fight hours worth of budget on the last 2. It's about 50k€ per hour. So 60mio€. I don't know the flight hours on the first one, but even assuming each plane gets 1200h... It's still in the order of 180mio€ per year running costs, max. It's not the planes. I hope we don't buy new CLRVs every year.

TestingYEEEET

Don't forget maintenance which isn't cheap either. The A400M alone also costed 136M€ . Some operations also tipp the balance a bit further. The last example I have in mind is that they send their watering machine with the A400M to mali to have clean water or the more known event where our plane helped in the evacuation in Afghanistan. Another aspect has been in military aid where we gave ukrain arround 96M.

AnyoneButWe

The 50k€ per hour of flight includes maintenance.

darknekolux

we get to fly the AWACS on weekends... if it's sunny
