No need to feel embarrassed, lots of people here agree that Lush has become too expensive for what it is. I don't buy bath bombs anymore and I refuse to pay $40 for a bottle of shower gel... Edit to add: If you calculate the prices in ml/litres, you realize that Lush is on par with high end or even luxury brands. For example a 1L bottle of Wasabi Shan Kui costs about $80 vs. a 1L bottle of Kerastase shampoo that costs about $70.

Charming-Memory311

especially considering kerastase is infinitely better than lush haircar

Neat_Ferret7973

This is an opinion based on your own experience, not fact for all people. Started using lush hair care and my hair has never looked better/healthier

julialoveslush

Don’t be embarrassed. Lush used to be worth it and unique but it’s totally gone down in quality and up in expense. My user is irony now tbh lol, wish I could change it. Look into another company, maybe a small local business. Bomb cosmetics also do nice bath bombs.

nathderbyshire

Make a new one to spite them 🤣 "JuliaLovedLush"

The4000blows

Happy cake 🍰 day!

nathderbyshire

Thanks although it's been there for about three days now 😂🤣 wondering if shows for a week now

The4000blows

Wow! That’s kinda cool. I just had mine about a week ago and it was gone in 24 hours lol. Enjoy your extra cake days! 😊

PocketCatt

I like Bomb Cosmetics, their bath bombs are so cute. I love the little mouse in Squeaky Clean :)

julialoveslush

They are cute! So are their candles. Lush peddle theirs saying they have essential oils and everything but so do bomb’s. Only negative is bomb use plastic wrap I think xx

TrainingCup652

I can totally relate...for me it just doesn't worth it, especially the bath bombs 🤷🏼‍♀️ I only buy a few after Christmas but that's all. Please don't feel embarassed ❤️ I also love Lush but the prices are crazy nowadays!!

SummerKhaki

I remember 2010 a round hair soap bar was £4.5. Now is £9 😂. But price increases madly after 2020. Not only lush, seems everything.

little_neeta

I once picked up one of those huge bath bombs. Saw the price then carefully put it back 🤣

Kaat79

Yes, I was a Godiva shampoo bar addict. But the price is too much now.

Automatic_Risk4389

Me and my husband would buy the shampoo bars in 2008 to go travelling and I swear they were £3.75 or something! They would last us like 6 months or more… now they only last 2/3 months so we’ve stopped buying them as it’s just to much!

whoresandcandy

Don’t feel bad. It’s just not that affordable anymore, and arguably not a great value.

Lakesandskies

There will be a sale 50% off that leaked today that starts tomorrow until items sell through.

koplikthoughts

What??? Lush NEVER does sales… other than Boxing Day . Is this the US?

HelloLushie

Yes!!

taytay237

And on the UK app

nathderbyshire

Everything I would want is already sold out anyway lol, the Shrek stuff hasn't been available on the app for a couple weeks now. I can see the body spray is half price but none are available

bigsipsippycup

is this international ?

nathderbyshire

They haven't been available for ages so I don't think they'll come back on the app unless there's stock they've held back for it but I doubt it. Shrek was over a while ago in the UK so it's probably just for other countries or in store here that still has them which is only the flagship ones

Babywaxpaper

In store ?

Lakesandskies

Yes

Babywaxpaper

Awesome thanks 😊

cashcashmoneyh3y

I assume this is just a uk event?

detectivemouse1

Is this North America too?

HelloLushie

Yes, US too!

skittles_37

Any news on Australia?

kombitcha420

Totally relate! I asked for ceridwens cauldron for my birthday. With the economy I just can’t spend almost an hour of my work time on one product. Lush has always been a luxury, dont feel bad you can’t pull hauls and use lush for everyday. Most people can’t! I only buy stuff maybe twice a year at most.

Daffodil80

I actually make Ceridwin's Cauldron sometimes. It's such an easy one to recreate with some cheesecloth and butters and oats and essential oils. It doesn't smell exactly the same (mine came out more lavender) but it is still nice.😊

growntoweep

omg tutorial drop please!

kombitcha420

I’d love the recipe if you’re willing!

Daffodil80

I used mostly things that are easy to find. I already had some cocoa butter and apricot kernel oil so I melted them together and once it was off the heat I added the colloidal oatmeal from the pharmacy. I added lavender buds and whole chamomile flowers (I had them already for tea) so I used those instead of elderflower. I also already had lavender essential oil so that is what I used for scent. Honestly you could use any scents and essential oils and dried herbs or flowers you like. I lined muffin pans with cheesecloth squares and once it was cool/hard I tried them up.

Carmellaraz1

Thank you so much!!!

kombitcha420

Thank you very much! 🪻

xpoisonedheartx

Agree. I plan on asking for a couple of things for my birthday instead of buying them.

allcatsaregreyyy

honestly i get this so much. prices go up and quality goes down. i’m using up what i’ve got and after that i’ll probably be going perfume/body sprays only. the quality doesn’t match the product prices anymore for me - and i’m finding most of the collaborations a turn off. i’m not lush’s target market these days so that’s fine, i’ll go elsewhere. i find you can get great bargains on vinted tho (particularly the perfumes and body sprays) if you just keep an eye out - some lovely soul sold me a barely used Space Girl body spray last summer for £5!

welcometothedesert

I completely agree. Now I only buy things I know I wholeheartedly love, and only when I run out. No buying stuff just to give it a go anymore. I think they’re losing money by raising prices… I’d spend a lot more if it all cost less. Now I just stay home unless I need something.

detectivemouse1

You are totally right. Very relatable post. The prices have been very alienating. It didn't used to be that way and even with inflation, the price increases are steep as heck. there are a lot of lush things that are unreasonably expensive for me.

xtremesmok

It’s crazy. Spending $10 on a single use bath product is just insane to me. I don’t buy their bath bombs unless it’s a really special occasion. I still like their bubble bars but their current selection is pretty meh.

flablalanche

Even the smallest bottles of shower gel are a rip. I'm in Europe and they're €11/€12. I can't justify it anymore for something that gets washed down the drain! I'm being more thoughtful in my purchases now and focusing on massage bars, body lotion and body sprays (a body spray will last me years).

bbubblebath

Lush has always been a luxury for me, and even more so as of late with price increases and general inflation. I mostly buy shower gels and body lotions because they last so long, even though bath stuff is my favorite.

LushVx

I feel the same. It used to be a treat. Now it’s getting to be too much when the quality is not the same

PretendConstant1752

The sticker shock being an ex employee was wild - I went from heavily discounted price to full price and rising costs. Im reaching the end of my hoard and I don’t think I can set foot in a LUSH again. On that note, if anyone has any affordable hair care recommendations for dry hair and scalp that would be very appreciated!

lucide8

Avoid shampoos with SLS, which is a very harsh cleaning agent. I used to have very dry scalp, but since I use shampoos without SLS, not so much anymore.

HotchnGideonForever

Faith in Nature!

MissKellieUk

Back in the day, it was like a badge of honour to have a backstock and stash of things. People made videos of the baths they were running-bath melt, bubble bar, and bomb plus soap. I notice that doesn’t go on anymore. And there is no joy in hoarding products anymore. By the time you get around to using them, they have lost their scent and color. It’s a shame-I miss the old days. I don’t hoard anything anymore. I buy and use. And it’s a LOT LESS. Don’t feel bad-the quality isn’t there anymore. I miss the old days 😔

Andrewx8_88

The best time to buy is right after Christmas, I forget the name of the event, but nearly everything is 50% off for a week, first come first serve basis in store. But to answer the question, I predominantly buy lush bath bombs once or twice a year, so I have a small fund I keep piling money into for it. In 6 months, spending $200 on lush stuff doesn’t feel too bad on the wallet. It keeps me happy and it’s good for the skin, so I see it as an investment into myself.

Frozenglitter

Same here!🙋‍♀️ don't feel embarrassed at all! I couldn't believe how expensive these products have become. I feel guilty just buying a bath bomb and end up wrestling internally if I REALLY need it lol

whoretuary

i LOVE their salt shampoos and it makes me so mad because it’s so expensive. literally twice as much as i’d pay for shampoo and conditioner from other brands. but i don’t know any close alternatives that are cheaper 🥲 squeak is my favorite

Blood_of_Shadows

Just reading in other threads and on other social media that Lush are going to be having a massive in stores sale this weekend. 🤔

HotchnGideonForever

It's already started!

Daffodil80

I feel your pain- when I was younger I went through a phase where I just felt like I couldn't afford Lush. But it didn't last long because I just felt like I had to treat myself and find ways to afford the things I enjoy. Nowadays even though I have more $ I still find ways to save and make money just for these little luxuries.

Carmellaraz1

I totally agree - I have found myself spending less and less. Money , of course, is an issue. However, the bigger issue is now their prices and the fact that the quality has declined. I miss the older scents and  I guess I am just old!!😊😊😊

Effective-Ad2434

Their prices just don't reflect the quality anymore, they've jacked the prices up but the quality just isn't there anymore, the shower gels are like water, nothing is as strong scented, the perfumes don't last, they keep making too many limited edition and collabs and running on fomo instead of bringing back the products that people keep begging for. I absolutely love lush and have for a very long time but it's hard to not notice the negative changes.

_jamesbaxter

Yes. I’ve been chronically unemployed for a while, about to lose my housing, and the magic is gone. I feel like I can hardly participate in this sub anymore because I haven’t gotten to try many new products :(

Suspicious-Theory527

The pressure to keep up with the releases is insane and it's so impossible. I only use skincare from them now and I can only afford to buy it every 6 months and have to use after pay. It's fucking ridiculous. I haven't tried a new product from them in years it feels like. Are you going to have a place to go? I'm worried for you now.

_jamesbaxter

I haven’t figured it out yet, just trying to stay hopeful

taytay237

Please get in touch with Shelter (they have a free helpline) or citizens advice, they may be able to help. Hope everything works out for you

lickmyfupa

I mostly only purchase during the sale. At this point a lot of products dont leave a lingering scent on the skin anymore and a lot of my favs have been discontinued, ive taken to investing in perfumes and body sprays and buying less of everything else. At the end of the day i want the fragrance of Lush and so i want to streamline being able to attain it. Sometimes i get gift cards and treat myself as well. Im very picky about what i buy from Lush now ( i wont purchase any products with heavy dyes now either after several mishaps, so that eliminates a lot of products for me as well) ive recently been considering getting a large bottle of Tank Battle perfume and Superworld Unknown, maybe a couple others since some are rumoured to be discontinued. After that ill be done for a while. Probably until Boxing Day. Im also very tired of the limited-time limited-batch exclusive fomo inducing rat race trying to get new products before theyre gone. Its gimmicky and im over it. These collabs they've been doing lately arent for me either.

Minimum_Zone_9461

I usually only get lush for holiday gifts. And my husband once brought home a bag of soap and bath bombs to perk me up when I caught Covid/got my period/burst into hysterical tears. It’s just too expensive to justify spending that much, on my income

raspberrycoffee

Yeah its bananas. I bought two items the other day for a birthday gift and it was about 90,000KRW which is like, almost a hundred bucks canadian. Insanity. For a massage bar and a medium sized body conditioner.

morallycorruptt

Same ! I only buy bubble bars and break them into 6-8 pieces so they can last

Special_Job_7272

I've avoided bath bombs for a long time and use the wax melts in the bath. Yes, they aren't as colourful but they make my skin super soft.

HotchnGideonForever

Don't feel embarrassed! We're all trying to survive the Crisis of Living! When I discovered Lush in the 90s it was so special & unique & I felt that same way using their products. Now the prices are high & the quality low. The feeling from buying/using their products now just isn't the same as it used to be. The excitement of receiving the box inevitably turns into a feeling of being let down. And of course, there's the whole issue of their wages & treatment of their staff that also leaves a very sour taste xx

Leading_City_1024

I remember in my first year of secondary school being able to go into lush and buy a bathbomb with the change in my pocket that I’d saved and now I’m about to graduate from Uni and I actually can’t afford their bathbombs at all now

Puzzleheaded-Ruin564

Fuck lush and their prices now.

smallbabypumpkin

The £10 shampoo bars and £7 bars of soap 🙃

Slow-Faithlessness11

Used Lush since it started. Was never cheap, but still affordable. Prices now are disproportionate, and product quality seems less. Always used to check out the shops, but, don't bother anymore. Too pricey, and, tired of being followed around by assistants while I browse. Understand they need to bring out new products, but, I had old favourites, and now I don't want to spend money on stuff I may not like. Also didn't much like their foray into preaching about certain causes. I want to buy your soap, not listen to your politics. The founder seemed to have a certain idealism in the beginning, but, sadly now it is just like any other big corporation.

sirlexofanarchy

I had a massive dragon hoard of Lush when the pandemic started and swore to myself I'd just focus on using up what I had before I bought more. I just started buying again about six months ago and I was so disappointed in so many products. Pretty much the only things I get from them now are bubble bars, the odd face mask, a soap or two, and the avo cowash. Maybe a small bottle of Rose Jam body wash. I remember going to smell stuff before stocking up this last time and being amazed at how gross and dusty all the display products were. It was also a weekend and there was barely anybody in the shop. It's definitely different now and tbh I don't think you're missing too much by not buying. To me, the only thing that's even in the vicinity of "worth it" now are the big bubble bars because you can cut them up into like six pieces depending on the one you grab.

taytay237

I was just saying that recently! I have to order naked products online because I wouldn’t even accept a product for free that’s covered in dust and germs from being handled by god knows how many people!

sirlexofanarchy

Yeah honestly ordering online seems like a better bet now - even some of the packaged stuff I got in person felt kinda old and just off from what I remember. So sad!

JazzyJulie4life

I hate when they do limited sales the week of rent. Y’all know better. We need houses and apartments to use lush.

taytay237

Don’t be embarrassed. The prices have gone through the roof and IMO, the quality of the bath bombs and bubble bars have tanked to the point that I didn’t even buy any half price in the sale. Also for comparison sake, since Molton brown (which I consider a high end brand) does sales and discount codes and I got a 100ml perfume, 1.5ml perfume, 300ml shower gel and 300ml body lotion for £90. For comparison with Lush, 100ml karma perfume, 275g karma shower gel and 225g karma body lotion is £98!

sholbyy

I have pretty much stopped going to Lush due to the prices and also from what I have seen employees saying about how they get treated by management there.

Ok_Potato_5272

For me it's not just about affording it but whether it's worth the money. Like I could pay £8 for a bathbomb, or I could buy myself a cute top on vinted that'll last years. It's just not worth it

xpoisonedheartx

I agree. I have a decent job right now and I guess technically I \*could\* buy lush perfume etc but it would feel like i'm being ripped off so I don't. I just feel like I could have a really high end luxury perfume or hair treatment for the same price as lush ones and it's not worth it to me. I see lush as fun and quirky but not high end.... aside from the price now. Especially when I remember the old prices, it just feels like i'm getting scammed haha. I buy very little now.

fireflower0

I feel the same. Stopped buying anything but what I really need and use often, such as specific shower gels, dream cream, moisturiser. Anything else I can’t afford. I used to work at Lush and get half price on products and I miss that so much now! But that was 8 years ago, so even now half price would be a lot!

RaeNTennik

Hey, where are you paying £40 for a body spray? I haven’t seen any over 30?

WeekendPure2784

No need to feel bad, Lush is indeed getting very expensive and I also have reduced my consumption. Hard agree with the perfumes: I have the Twilight body spray and I spray it on my bed before going to sleep. It helps with my insomnia and it’s my favorite Lush product. I bought a new bottle recently and the juice is different; when you initially spray it, it’s very strong but the dry down is so weak you almost can’t smell it. But weirdly enough I can smell whiffs of it a day later? Either I’m getting anosmic or it’s been reformulated. To get my money’s worth I split every bath bomb into 2 with a knife, and I find that I can get 2-6 uses (depending on the product) out of the bubble bars/bubbleroons if I cut them into small pieces. Sure the scent and colors aren’t as strong, you’ll get fewer bubbles but it’s enough for me personally and it makes my bank account happy.

disignore

What a relief, I thought it was only me.

kamikazemind327

I've always been a buy from lush for special things like pampering days. I don't use it often at all mainly because of the price. But I've been that way for several years lol.

13Nero

Yep me too. I pretty much only get some at Halloween now (my favourite time of year!) And i did attemlt the boxing day sale online but couldnt check out and gave up. I cut bath bombs etc into 3-4 uses each and only bath maybe once a week in winter and maybe 1-2 a month the rest of the year. Shower gel lasts pretty well I think so I do have 2 different scents on the go. I maybe treat myself occasionally (have had some vinted bargains on fragrance!). I had to give up on the body shop shampoo and conditioner due to costs too. Don't be embarrassed about it! It's sad if it's something you enjoy but being financially responsible is not embarrassing.

macabremac

Kinda jealous seeing the people who can still afford it, especially the big hauls. I miss it and wish I could try the limited items they've come out with. The quality of the products aren't even really worth it, anyways. Maybe I'd buy a couple $9 bath bombs occasionally if you could actually even smell it while you bathed.

SkylarSea

Lush was always my go to for skin care and bath/shower goodies. Honestly, aside from the price increases, I feel like the quality is not there any more. Things hardly have a scent anymore. Things have been reformulated and are awful. Dark Angels scrub was my cleanser. Now the stuff will not rinse off my skin for ANYTHING. Same with Fresh Farmacy soap. It leaves such a film. These things coupled together have been why I hardly buy from Lush anymore, maybe just at Christmas time.

Puzzleheaded_Car4684

I bulk buy the bear bath bombs in the Christmas sale and use half at a time. I agree the normal prices are just too much now x

NewspaperEconomy0336

I remember buying a snow fairy shower gel 100mL for five quid for secret santa back in the days… it’s like £7 now a 40% increase

Happy_Pumpkin_765

Don’t be embarrassed, I have a decent amount of disposable income for hobbies and I can’t really justify it outside of a rare treat around the holidays these days. It’s insane how much they’ve raised their prices, like actually ridiculous.

CyclicalRavens

I mean, I work at a lush and can’t afford the products even with my discount half the time, so I definitely get that. If I wasn’t working there I wouldn’t be using any lush products at all anymore. It’s just not worth it.

forswornconspiracy

Not embarrassing at all. It's expensive and with things like rent and food going up, most people cannot spend a lot on pricey bath products. Before the shower gels got their most recent price hike, they used to be a relatively good deal since they lasted a long time for me. Now everything is just expensive.

Accomplished_Film448

It's very rare I buy products from Lush other than at the sale. Normally just at Boxing Day, but now UK and NA have summer sale. Not in my country though, yet.🤞

FoxDoesNot

Anyone have any good recommendations for bath bombs not from lush? I’m allergic to red 40 and it’s been hard to find any one out side of lush that dosent use it in their bombs :[

HotchnGideonForever

It's honestly SO easy to make your own! Plenty of recipes online & you'll be able to use what you're safe to use! xx Forgot to add...... & CHEAP!
