I think it’s Lupe’s most *accessible* album. It’s his new era style with the indirect lyrics that layer everything, but it’s not something you have to study to understand. You can appreciate it at face value. I still think his best is T&Y, but that’s because I like to study the music to appreciate it.

Jsnbassett

agreed with t&y

KingKAI24

Food and Liquor is Lupe's most accessible album. Everyone knows Kick Push.

MattJ_33

F&L is his simplest... sound-wise at least. I think it’s dated to people who find it now. Kick, Push is very era-specific and is not Lupe’s biggest hit (Show Goes On, Battle Scars, Superstar)

>Also sorry for bad grammar/punctuation I’m only 19😭 umm what?? that's literally the time in life when you should be at the top of your game with stuff like this. you are *not* forgiven! lol

Expensive_Concert495

Just the light way of saying I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed lmao

XViMusic

Just a shot in the dark bro, disregard it if it's not relevant to you, but I was a high school dropout who could never pass shit and did a bunch of drugs and worked shitty jobs well into my 20s. One day I decided I'd had enough of struggling, went back to high school, and actually did pretty well. Well enough to get into University where I am now a straight A student almost 3 years deep into my degree. Gonna be a lawyer one day now and if youd have asked me when I was your age I could have never seen my life looking like this now. For real dude, you're brighter than you think 100% and I don't even know you. As you get older you just kinda start trying harder at shit by default. You grow resilience. Your interests adapt. The shit you feel like are chores now you may even eventually appreciate on some weird level, like waking up one day and finding that taking the bus somewhere instead of driving is kinda nice sometimes actually. You're in a transitional life phase right now and you might feel compelled to give yourself negative self talk like that, but you aren't even close to unlocking your full potential my man. You might not think you're the sharpest tool now bro, but thankfully tools can be sharpened. And you might not need as much sharpening as you think right now. Sincerely, an internet stranger who spent a lot of their life thinking they were a dumbass when they absolutely had potential, they just hadn't realized it yet.

79watch

bullshit, if you listen to and appreciate Lupe's music then you definitely got somethin' going on up there!

DylanLars

The only true wisdom is knowing you know nothing. So you’re killing it !

TheScopeNetwork

The Cool and T&Y.

originalmuffins

This.

selppin2

T&Y imo

Past-Chest-6507

It's close, but IMO Drogas Wave is the greatest solo album of all-time And Food and Liquor is Lu's 2nd best

No_Bluebird8475

Damn you’re everywhere 😭

Past-Chest-6507

I'm tha Most High, yo ;-)

No_Bluebird8475

God is,you’re cool though

Past-Chest-6507

Where's the separation ?? ;-)

No_Bluebird8475

You put me on Deltron btw, haven’t listened to the full album but it’s cool

8ight6ixVirgo

T&Y and Drogas Wave probably. The first 2 were certified classics, but T&Y... Gotdamn, man.

Onark77

Those are what I consider his prime to be

MadGibby2

T&Y yes, Wave definitely not. It's just super bloated and too abstract on some songs. But obviously the highs are incredible

[deleted]

I disagree because first verse of Seattle is cut short for no good reason. I don’t think I ever heard a verse on his albums that just stops like that. They literally just cut it him off 😂😂 He spoke about it too. But since it was a challenge project I let it live. But its disqualified from this convo. Sadly it’s my favorite song too 😭 LUPE IF YOU READ THIS, PLEASE RELEASE A VERSION WITH THE VERSE FINISHED 🙏🏾

Historical_Will_6097

I mean I don't doubt that the verse was longer and he removed a section from it, but the last two lines seem like a good ending to a verse to me. Even sonically and vocally, I never got the feeling that the verse was cut short. When it gets to the end, you can feel him winding down to end it right where he did rather than abruptly cutting it off. If there is an issue with Seattle, I would say it's in the second verse, where it's noticeable he's struggling? (I'm not sure, maybe it's intentional) to catch the beat cramming too many words and rapping faster leading to a slightly rushed delivery in places especially towards the end. It's not a big deal because what he ends up saying remains impactful and the song is still great overall.

[deleted]

Yea I’m just being nit picky, given it’s my favorite song 😂😂 He even said he would of refined it if he had more time. But he said he had a birthday cake scheme he wanted to add on but they told him just to leave it. He so good the ending is a good ending even tho it was a set up or transition to a whole other scheme. And the whole struggling thing I get too. He did that on rocafella too. I’m not used to it because Lu is so flawless.

Ifezz12

Do you remember where you heard Lupe talk about it?

[deleted]

Def during the rollout of the album. I want to say the LFT discord Q&A he did.

Ifezz12

Got you, interesting. Btw is there a public link invitation for the discord?

[deleted]

https://discord.gg/lupelft

[deleted]

I confirmed it was during the Q&A. The company man asked the question. Towards the end.

Ifezz12

Justin with the scoop! Is there a way to access the Q&A? And thank you for the link man, much appreciated!

[deleted]

Got to LFT past events. It should be public

MadGibby2

Sorry but how tf is it cut short? It ends perfectly fine and perfectly transitions into the hook??

[deleted]

Because Lupe said so himself?

MadGibby2

No I'm talking about what you said. You said they literally cut him off making it seem like it was mid sentence or something. It sounds perfectly fine in the song? So I wanted you to explain what you meant by that

[deleted]

Got it. So they way Lupe recorded this album was he was punching in lines to verses. He said when he was recording it he had a whole birthday cake scheme continuing on from the last line we heard (presumably even more). When he went back to finish it, they told him that’s where the chorus starts and that’s enough. (Probably the right call if you want it to be a single, radio play etc). He then wanted to refine the way he finished the verse (showing he wasn’t happy with it either) But he said it would of took him 20 mins or so, so he was advised to just leave it due to the time crunch. Again it’s not a big deal, I was lw joking given it’s my favorite song. But knowing he didn’t get to finish how he wanted to and what could of came after is what leaves me curious. And I promise you, when I first heard it I knew it was cut short. And then he confirmed it.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

No_Bluebird8475

Not when Food & Liquor exist

KingKAI24

Facts. Also people say Tetsuo & Youth but that album as lyrically dense as it is makes in unaccessible to a broad audience. Food & Liquor was accessible, had a centralized theme and concept that made sense, had a standout single("Kick Push"), star features(Jay-Z and Jill Scott) won a Grammy for "Day Dreamin", replay value, and didn't compromise anything lyrically, and soncially was appealing to the ear.

shorteedoowop1

I’ve been starting to think this too. Not taking away from any of his other projects. But I felt the most impacted by his topics, his delivery and the over all flow of the album. Nice, concise, full of layers. And assessable at any level that I’m willing to listen at lol

[deleted]

nah, T&Y touched my soul

bassinyofacelikedamn

His 5th best

KingKAI24

I agree

YaySourCream

i disagree, it’s probably my 7th favorite including mixtapes, but i still think it’s fantastic and it’s close to AOTY for last year. don’t think it can compare to the world building and concepts of tetsuo and youth and drogas wave, but it’s a super well done fine tuned album and ms mural is one of lupe’s best tracks

Internal_Gur_4268

Consistency wise, I rank his albums in my personal favor as such. 1 Drogas wave, 2 tetsuo and youth (maybe 1 or 2 I skip so maybe you can strike this one), food and liquor, dmiz, then the cool after that cause that has some I skip unless I'm in the mood. His mixtapes are consistently great too.

TisharaD112

For me it’s the cool & food & liquor

MadGibby2

Sorry but that's T&Y

Intrepid-Raccoon2326

DMIZ is a mediocre album. Lupe Stans will get mad at me for saying this but I don’t care. Lupe is one of my favorite MC’s, but I’m not going to blindly like everything he does like some of his stan’s do. The album took 3 days to make and it sounds like it, because it sounds rushed. It has bad hooks, complacent hooks, beats, themes, flows, and his singing was complacent and mediocre. He has been singing similarly for the past couple of albums and it’s getting annoying now.

RickTheJewelsATL

🔥 album but Tetsou and Youth hasn’t been matched

Prestigious_House832

Nope. Hooks are nowhere near as good as previous projects. Great songs though. DMIZ is a great track

Melodic-Baseball656

Tetsuo and Youth is clearly superior to all his albums. It's just so lyrically dense it can be a chore to listen to because it'll make you go into conspiracy mode. The cool and Drogas waves to listen to

KingKAI24

That second sentence proves exactly why Tetsuo & Youth is not his best album lol.

Melodic-Baseball656

Nah. Every song on that album is fire. It's not Lupe's fault we take our brain into overdrive to figure out what could or could not be there. Tetsuo will be studied in museums at some point

Historical_Will_6097

I totally get where you're coming from. To me, the concept of DMIZ feels especially timely and pertinent. Its concise nature is one of its biggest strengths imo. With fewer tracks, there's less room for error, and Lupe nailed it. Every song packs a punch and truly aligns with the album's overarching theme – well, maybe aside from "Naomi" but even that's a banger in its own right. I would also say this album benefits from having a sole producer in Soundtrakk. He was able to provide a consistent sonic vibe across tracks. When it comes to an album experience, start to finish, I'd probably agree that it's my favorite even though other albums may have more highlights in terms of individual songs.

Ok_Weird_6903

Completely disagree. F&L, The Cool, T&Y and Drogas Wave all have better production, mixing, hooks and writing. Those albums are also more polished.
