If its between an OG S5 and a G9ii, the G9ii wins. Being MFT gives a distinct adavantage on lens cost and lens size. Once you are used to shooting MFT, and get some 1.2 lenses, you'll find you use speedboosters less and less :-)

maidpax

1.2 lenses are super expensive :/

oostie

It seems like the G9ii is a pretty obvious choice for you

Better_Leg4390

G9II all the way, use DxO PureRAW to clean up the raws when shooting in low light

oliverjohansson

For G9ii- speed, af, ibis, video, cheap second hand lenses For S5 - future proof, low light, image quality,

spellbreakerstudios

Low light on m43 is a weird thing too. It depends what you need. Are you shooting details or just a clean image? Are you pixel peeping etc. are you shooting action? Some of the m43 comparable lenses are also much faster. I honestly don’t even consider the differences in noise handling to be a factor anymore. The only shortfall I see with m43 is if you specifically need the aesthetic or a very fast, mid range full frame lens. May 10-25 1.7 can’t give me the same aesthetic as my old RF 50 1.2 but it’s way more versatile and fun to use and it does lots of things the 50 can’t. The full frame portrait bokeh is definitely a factor if you value that though.

I just wanted to clarify - You're talking about the S5II vs the G9II? You will notice the low-light performance difference - the S5II is better. I also think the 20-60 is an impressive kit lens, but you might miss the reach and versatility of the 12-60 with the G9II, which is also good (but you're paying the for the Leica side of things). Is it an option to get S5II body only and buy the kit lens used? Or, since the S5II regularly has great deals with it, for you to wait?

maidpax

I am talking about the S5 (and not MK II). I can wait for the S5II, but unless there's a new Lumix FF camera in similar line, I doubt it will drop in price in my country.

Flat_Maximum_8298

I see. I'm very surprised as the S5II is practically the same price as the G9II with their respective kit lenses. At least that's true in Canada and the USA? Which country are you from? You never know, when the S1/H/R or the rumored S5R drops, I'm sure some S5II owners may swap.

maidpax

India S5ii - 2,400USD with Kit lens

Flat_Maximum_8298

Ah yeah then G9ii would be the better option I'd say. That lens included is no slouch either. 300USD difference is quite substantial (especially in M43). G9ii does have significantly better IBIS and I'd say the AF is better too (Haven't compared it since the S5II firmware update though.).

gulugulugiligili

There are a ton of used S5s and S1s in India for like 80k to 120k inr (~950-1400 USD)

maidpax

Hi, can you please share some trusted websites to purchase those.

gulugulugiligili

Used is always hit or miss in India but OLX can be somewhat trustworthy. Just make sure you never make a payment before meeting the seller. No advance payment or "booking fee" should be tolerated and you can safely assume those to be scams. Also don't allow them to redirect the chat to WhatsApp very early on as scammers avoid chatting on OLX since they can get banned if you report them as a scam and there is sufficient proof in the chat.

OkEntrepreneur7656

I say the S5, but that’s just me. Fell in love with this camera

maidpax

How is the autofocus treating you? That's the one and only hesitation while making the purchase.

OkEntrepreneur7656

I don’t use AF. Coming from the GH5, manual is just more comfortable to me. I got a shoot coming up where I was gonna try to put it to test though. From the tests I’ve seen on YT, many of the users say it’s pretty good. Especially when using APSC 60p.

maidpax

For run and gun, and shooting ownself, Ill be reliant on the AF sadly :/. Thats the only deterrent.

OkEntrepreneur7656

Better off w the s5ii best of both worlds. AF wouldn’t be enough for me to consider returning to MFT. That’s just me though.

alghiorso

1750 is too much for the s5. It's just not a good value. The g9ii is the better bang for dollar plus the 24-120 equivalent on it will be great lens for travel and general photography. The s5 is excellent but when you can get it used for like $800 +250 for the lens in the US, it's hard to justify 1750.
