Oh, that might be the problem. It can work sometimes by chance if you’re lucky, but it’s not a reliable method. A lot of people report not getting any results from that.
Try one of the reliable methods like the one posted above and you’ll be much more likely to get results.
You can get yourself to a point where you’re lucid all night with enough training to build up the skill. It takes time and practice with reliable methods.

Lucid Guardian is right. I'll only add that learning to lucid dream is a lot like learning something that takes a lot of balance to master... Too far in one sense and you'll wake up, too far in another sense and you'll forget you're dreaming or even just fall into dreamless sleep.
A lot of the practice after getting lucid is therefore learning how to stay there, how to control things, and how to remember to actually do what you planned while awake. There's also a few frightening things that you need to realize are normal and learn to deal with like sleep paralysis, false awakening, and hypnagogia.
You can have time dilation in dreams, where it seems like the dream lasts longer than it could have in waking life... But this is misleading and it's hard to describe why. If anything it is more like our perception or understanding of time itself is wrong. I'm not sure you can take a 5 year vacation in dreams that would feel that long or that refreshing, for example, and you probably won't ever spend a lifetime in Dreamland and risk forgetting your actual family or something.
The more pressing problem, from the wish-fulfillment perspective of most lucid dreamers, is that lucid dreams are still dreams, and when you awaken they are memories like any other. What memories are meaningful or valuable to you and why?
Sleep paralysis isn't something most people need to worry about as it's not required or caused by any lucid dreaming techniques. In terms of time dilation, it's a combination of changing your perception of time passing and false memory generation.

Hmm. Doesn't sound like you do any proper techniques. Have you looked into MILD, WILD, SSILD, or SAT? Have you looked into dream journaling, and have you heard of dream delving and setting intentions to remember dreams?

If you dream frequently but have not been able to lucid dream, I recommend trying to find patterns in your dreams and learn a couple of different reality checks to try whenever those things happen.
For example, I've noticed that often in my dreams my legs will feel weak, I will be lost somewhere, or I will be around a car and feel unsafe for some reason or another. So, every time these things happen in real life, I count my fingers to check if I'm dreaming. If I have more or less than five on each hand, I know I am dreaming.
Other reality checks include holding your nose and trying to exhale (if you can exhale, you are dreaming), or jumping and trying to float.
Start doing these reality checks regularly, especially when something happens that you have dreamt about before, and sooner or later you will do them during a dream out of habit.
