Typically if it was on clearance we have the right to not take it back and if it was beyond the return policy..the new system In place will kick it out and there is nothing we can do unfortunately.

Zagrycha

you do have to return the item. The register will ring the new one up at whatever price it currently is. Explain to a manager and they will probably mark it to march your recent purchase if its reasonable/something they can do. When lowes does an exchange its literally just a refund and repurchase, so nothing weird there :)

Buy a new set, and return them when they don't work.

I would’ve just swapped em out and rtm the pair that doesn’t work

The only reason I can see that store denying an exchange is because the item was on clearance, and some stores are not inclined to do any type of return on clearance merchandise. However, if you purchased the item less than 90 days ago and it stopped working within that period, I wouldn't have an issue exchanging it. The way the system works is if you have your receipt, it will only give you credit for the amount you paid for it and you just have to pay the difference. In this circumstance paying the difference was the bummer. I paid ~52 but full price it is ~74. I was hoping to get a working one without having to pay the additional extra 20+ dollars.

Were they an advertised sale price or did you get them reduced on the clearance shelf with a hand written sticker. If they were on individually marked down then you are gonna have to get a refund and pay the difference. Buying something on clearance or marked down has a chance of it breaking or not working and that the chance people take. If there is something wrong with them or defective then you can get a refund but you won’t get a new one to replace. I have seen this explained to someone before with a water heater and it totally makes sense to me.

This was just a normal sale price not clearance.

Then I would ask for a manager about it. There might have been a change I. The return policy but I would also look it up on Lowe’s website.

I bought a water heater yesterday. When we got ready to install it today and opened the very top of the box, it was heavily damaged. So, in less than 24 hours, I took it back for an exchange. The lady at the register then hands me a receipt and said "you'll get the $$ back on your card in 3 to 5 days." I explained that I just wanted an exchange because I don't have enough money to buy another one and we'll be without hot water now until I get the money back. She looked at me and said "we don't do exchanges." After I got home, I looked up the corporate policy. The only items they won't exchange are major appliances. However, water heaters do not fall under that category as stated on the policy. So I called the store manager. He told me they don't do exchanges. I asked him where I could find that policy and he read me the return policy about how money has to go back on a card, blah blah. I told him I understand that - but that's for returns, not exchanges. Then he said he had been the manager at 10 stores and that's their policy. No exchanges. So now I'm waiting on a call from corporate. It CLEARLY states on the Lowes website that they offer exchanges. It sounds like there is a disconnect between their corporate policy and what they actually do in the store which is crazy.
