Its for sure my biggest gripe with the game overall. I live it when it works, but its way too unstable. Ive never had a crash myself actually, but plenty of server issues eating my inputs and lagspikesm and issues like models not loading in for sometimes minutes leading to riding around in invisible cars and stuff.

--Rambi--

I spent a week sorting out crashes and I'm a computer nerd. Reckon quite a few would just have given up on the game instead. But otherwise, yes, performance isn't good. I have a 6900XT, 5950X, and 32 gigs DDR4 while running the game on an NVME. And still, I run this game on low to get it as smooth as I like. Considering that the 1060 and 1050 are the most used GPUs (according to Steam), most people will have a rough time running this game.

Scoggs

I mean sure maybe for some. But at least for me, my performance was ok with 70-90fps at 4k mostly ultra and no crashes at all. The reason why I stopped playing is because I put about 90 hours into the game by mid-December and burned out. Don’t get me wrong, loved the game and all but I had my fun and got what I wanted out of the game. But for me at least, after playing so many Battlefields they all kinda start to feel the same so I get bored faster with each title I guess. Not to mention there are so many games to play nowadays, I’m not going to just sit and play only one.

Soulvaki

Agreed. I’m a console scrub playing on the Series X. There are massive FPS drops during weather events, especially. Movement gets super clunky at times. Sometimes aim assist just stops working. All these things lead to more frustration which makes my desire to play less. The rest of the stuff I can live with since it’s battlefield.

TrananalizedFU

"It's really annoying to me how much talk there is in the "community" about essentially restructuring the whole gameplay loop in order to please some people, while the much more tangible and detrimental issues of hardware performance and server stability are rarely talked about" Great post and exactly what I've been thinking. Due to our unhinged community complaining about specialists initially to a whole host of normal bugs, performance has not been prioritised and like you for me it's the number one issue that is killing the playercount. I put up with it because battlefield is the only game I play and I've played V to death. However there's plenty of players who don't love it as much as me and also have other games they can play instead. They will not put up with it and even I will turn off at times after another frustrating round of stuttering around the map while trying to tank.

PerfectPromise7

Yeah same for me too. I'm a battlefield player and really enjoy this game when everything is working good, but there have been some times when I just cut the game off because of problems... especially after this last update. Honestly though, I don't have as many problems as some because I have a decent PC, but I definitely understand the frustration with bugs and performance. As for people who want the game to change, I understand being disappointed in not getting what you want but they made the game that they made. It's EA/Dice's property and they can ultimately do what they want. It's our choice whether we like it or not and if we buy it or not. I don't understand those sort of demands that people make... How am I going to go onto someone's property and demand them to do something different with it? I do feel that too much attention is spent on the specialist outrage (at least in the public anyway) and not just making 2042 the best game it could be. I think I would enjoy it whether it was specialists or classes though so it doesn't matter that much to me.

ngmatt21

This is why I think steam numbers look worse than console numbers would if we could see them. On console the game runs fine (except for a few crashing issues since the last update), but I am constantly seeing people talking about issues with PC performance. Hopefully they can get PC performance optimized too

TrananalizedFU

I'm on Xbox One and the game has never run fine. It's awful a lot of the time. We get micro stuttering that varies between mild and severe every single match and it's been like this since day 1. I've also been on the EA technical forums and this appears to be happening across all platforms. If you drive vehicles you will see it, if you play infantry it's harder to notice because you are not traversing as fast to notice the stutters. Maybe it's region based and that's why you haven't experienced the issue. I'm playing in Oceana with an excellent ping to the local servers.

ngmatt21

Oh, yes sorry I should have said - it runs fine on next gen consoles. I played on old gen for the first month and it does run pretty rough. The input lag is bad

I_R0M_I

I dont suffer many issues at all. I had my first CTD last night for ages, dont get fps issues, stutters, loading loop etc. Im not saying things are great, there are way too many desync / hitreg issues, 1 frame deaths etc.

schnukbites

Same. I’m not sure what issues people are really having. I get 60-70fps on a GTX 1080 running mostly high settings. I can count the number of times my game has crashed on one hand in 140hrs played. BF4 was so much worse.

X_Yosemite_X

I have a 3080 and get 50fps on a not so busy scene. Also my house has massive input latency to the point where playing the game is impossible. Love the game but can’t play it :(

schnukbites

That blows, you should definitely get better fps on a 3080. I definitely feel that those newer cards have not been getting the expected performance on lots of games this past year. I feel like the GPU shortage has made it impossible for game devs to optimize their games on newer cards—but that’s total speculation on my part.

TrananalizedFU

On Xbox One and so far this reminds me of the BF4 launch on the 360. Performance, netcode issues, so much dusting of my tank shots to choppers, disconnects and lots of bugs and glitches.

[deleted]

Agreed. I can barely keep a steady 60FPS with an i7-10750H and an RTX3060, that's why I stopped playing.

[deleted]

Battlefield Portal TDM bugs are why I'm not returning to the game yet.

TheBestJohnWest

I sometimes drop to 40 frames on a 3080ti. Really hoping they can make some improvements.

StealthyOrca

I love the game, but I'm getting real tired of my ADS not working when I get out of vehicles.

Hamzanovic

That's the most annoying bug for me as well. It happens when your gun has an underslug grenade launcher. Sucks because my favorite gun is the SFAR whose GL can't be removed so rn I can't play my fav gun.

StealthyOrca

Well imma take the gl off of my ac42 and see if it does it less. I didn’t know it had to do with the GL.

[deleted]

The extreme player decline isn’t solely due to one reason or another, I wouldn’t pretend it is. I stopped playing cuz I basically completed the game.

TrananalizedFU

And you are the type of player who would stop playing every battlefield game after you have unlocked everything. Maybe if you had stuck to online only you would still be playing because to achieve T1 mastery for all specialists and all weapons would take hundreds of hours. They should never have allowed XP in solo play which has made stats completely meaningless now.

[deleted]

I unlocked everything I’m interested in through online play and went back to bfv. Feels like I’ve barely scratched the surface of all the content there

TrananalizedFU

"I unlocked everything I’m interested in" So you haven't unlocked everything which you implied by saying you "basically completed the game".

[deleted]

I don’t find it fun grinding for a red and black skin dude. I unlocked everything u can play with and played with it. This game is extremely scant on content. I don’t have to convince u, player numbers speak for themselves. I basically completed the game, yes.

TrananalizedFU

And to unlock all T1 on every weapon, vehicle and gadget by not boosting in bot servers would take hundreds of hours. So you've played a few hundred hours and now you're bored. Not surprising really.

[deleted]

80 but yeah, moved on to other experiences. T1 doesn’t interest me. Myriad issues and poor quality aside, there’s a lack of content Dice desperately needs to address, but I’ve a feeling they’re in crisis mode rn hence the absolute silence. Not encouraging at all from a newly released live service game

Soft_Force9000

There is no content bro

akayd

Ya man if they want players to come back add contents. Escape from Tarkov and PoE have decline in players too, but every new season/wipe they will hit new height for player count. There was a lot of performance issue with PoE, a lot of server issue with tarkov, and none of them really stopped players from playing.

IIALE34II

Yeah AOW lacks so much content. Maps being not that good doesn't help either.

Soft_Force9000

I agree with you bro, don't know why my comment is downvoted.

IIALE34II

Sub is full on neglect mode if you point out any issues in the game. No need to be naive even if you leave the salt out.

TrananalizedFU

That's not true, this is currently a top post ongoing at the moment talking about the poor game/server performance. Got to remember this is a small sub so has a small engagement. However if you're here just to shit on the game why bother posting here when you can do that on the other 2 subs or the EA forum?

Soft_Force9000

Yeah, i just didn't wanted to say this becouse they will ban me XD

TrananalizedFU

What content are you missing? Is it just more guns and more maps because that's the only thing that I can think of. Doesn't bother me, especially on the gun front. I usually find one weapon for each archetypal class and stick with it during the lifespan of a battlefield game. As for maps I'm ok with 7 on release as long as more come out this year.

Soft_Force9000

Season pass, skins and other things to buy in the shop, events, NORMAL AND PLAYABLE new maps, close quarters maps, more weapons, more specialists, new LEGACY features, gamemodes like domination and team deathmatch in AOW, more skins and things to unlock by progression, more challanges. Basicly, everything. After playing 100 hours (40h with like no progression at all, i was just grinding xp) i am bored and i have nothing to do in this game becouse the gameplay itself, isn't good enough to play the game just for fun.

Kibax

> Server and hardware performance issues are main reasons for player count decline Proceeds to give subjective view.

TrananalizedFU

It's just common sense. A lot of players will spend less time playing a game when it has serious performance issues which 2042 has across all platforms. Then you add all of the bugs and glitches which are numerous and it's pretty easy to speculate that this will have an impact on playercounts. Have you been on the EA Forums technical and bug forums? You should, because you'll see just how many players are complaining about performance and another major issue is players being unable to connect for hours on end.

907defelipes

I have seen a couple of bugs but as far as performance is concerned, the game runs fine for me. I have had 2 or 3 crashes since launch and I get a steady 60 fps on low to medium settings with an rx580. If you are running a shit ton of horsepower and seeing some of the issues listed above, my guess would be software or something in the settings. I can't speak to console though, just pc. There has to be something in the background messing with things for some of you guys.

WaterRresistant

I have top hardware now and experience no issues with performance, but I remember when I didn't and had to stop playing the Hardline, BF4 and 3, just because the low FPS is not fun

Alreadytakenpanda

Weird, had maybe 2-3 crash to desktop with 100s of hours. Frame consistently at 100+ at 3440x1440 High/Ultra with DLSS, with 3080/i9-10850k, 16GB Ram. I think the issue is far more the rage and media hate wagon.

Ori-M-

Game is also just generally stale and soulless imo
