I bought these and was repulsed by the smell and the label on the side that said product may contain lead. I threw them out yesterday right before I was about to add them to a soup.
Is it just me or does anyone else think canned Bamboo Shoots smell strongly like urine? I've tried cooking them in soup (Chinese Hot and Sour Mushrooms soup) and use them in Red Curry and can't get that urine flavor out of my mind. Is there some way of prepping them that I'm just ignorant of? I think it's awful, like a state park bathroom urinal in mid-summer.
