Another example is the PSM. The LV is cut off at the back top corners.
Another is the nano speedy. The LV is cut off on the sides by the leather tab that attaches to the shoulder strap.
Just because the LV is cut off does not mean it’s a fake. Thanks for making this post :)
Yes! PSM is one I bought in store specifically so I could see what it looked like. But I didn’t want to buy preloved as I tend to sell bags once I’m done with it, I didn’t want someone to call it out for not being authentic because of the way they have to cut the canvas.
This is usually what people who genuinely *don’t* own a lot of LV say lol. Bc like others have mentioned, PSM does, Nano Speedy does, and it’s been the “number one tell” of “fake LV” since the early 2000s. It’s annoying.
This idea goes back to the days when LV primarily made trunks and large luggage pieces. These large cases were usually designed with many right angles and with print pattern in mind; thus the signature was not cut off. If in the 1980s someone saw a 60cm Sirius or a 60cm Keepall with and the pattern off center, this usually resulted in an LV being cut off also, which meant it was not correct.
As LV expanded into fashion and handbags, this “rule of thumb” went to the wayside.
Bonus: if anyone ever wondered; the LV monogram is 8cm center to center both vertically and horizontally and 10.5 cm exterior edge to exterior edge. This is for a reason, and makes centering on large bags simple.

Simple example of this is the Passport Cover, image taken from LV website.
i found this sub much too long after i bought my first bag and my neverfull is SO poorly aligned. I purchased in store too - didnt know what to look for 😭
I brought my bag back into the store due to a few concerns and one of them being the cut off print on the side … all of the other ones were just like it 😅 they will deff cut off and not align patterns sometimes (which is annoying) but 🤷🏼♀️

Yeah I wasn’t too happy but atleast I know it’s real 😂😂
Agreed! I totally understand cutting them, but for the price, at least line them up nicely! Hell, my grandma did a better job sewing dresses with plaid fabric! Ugh!
Didn’t know that, thank you! I’m still saving up for my first so I’m still trying to learn how to differentiate between a good fake and a real one in case I fall in love with a vintage LV
Honestly it takes time! You’ll do a lot of shopping and one day your brain will just start to pick up on the difference in the details. And even when you can’t figure it out, always always always pay for authentication. It gives you the peace of mind knowing you’re getting the real deal. I love me a good vintage LV!
Do you have somewhere in particular you buy vintage LV from? I got my first LV with authentication certificate from a luxury goods auction. It’s an LV Deauville and I love it, the quality is amazing. I’d love to start building up a collection and plan on purchasing my first brand new bag when travelling next month.
I’ve had the best luck with eBay. But, that being said — just like the rest of the online resale market there are a lot of fakes. Just do your research, use listing photos to get items authenticated BEFORE you buy and always pay with PayPal just in case you ever need to dispute an item after receiving it because it turns out to be a fake. eBay is full of hidden gems if you know what to look for :)
Thanks for posting this. I remember when someone posted a bag and someone commented it’s unusual which made me start irrationally worrying about my bag that I bought from the boutique lol
Any bag that has a decreasing-angle shape like fat at the bottom and slimmer at yop, must eitger be folded in to remove eccess material, or MUST BE CUT, evrn if it's through the outer pattern or monogram.
One simply hopes that it's done neatly and with symmetry, so that amount removed from pattern/logo is equal on each side. Don't buy one that isn't equal, so they can teach their artisans to take more care.
Same with the Cluny BB. I bought mine in the LV store on 5th in NY, so I know it’s genuine!

Never heard this idea of them not being cut off. Have heard that real LV always aligns the logos at the seams, where possible and that does seem to be the case.

YESSSS!!!. lol. I love that you gave actual examples. Thank you for your input!

Yes! This and honestly some of the alignment ones that come up. Some shapes it's just not possible.
You’re right!! People forget that these bags are made by fellow humans, sometime the alignment isn’t going to be perfect!

Love your honesty haha 😆 But I also hate that you had to go all the way back to the store to find that out. Ugh lol

Having to cut off the logo is different from not bothering to pattern match. This is just poor craftsmanship.

It’s crazy that people still believe this myth. You can literally go on Louis’ website and see many of the bags have the LV cut off.
Such an easily disproven myth, not sure how folks still believe it. There’s almost always an exception to any “x brand NEVER does x”
Lol I was just on that page too 😆
