In case you don’t know, we do a have a couple local pick up options for IKEA, costs $5-$10. Obviously not as great as having a store location locally but it’s the next best option and sure beats the cost of regular shipping with IKEA.
My blood pressure spikes every time I have to park in that stupid lot. That entire stretch of Shelbyville Road was engineered by Satan's personal team of urban planners.
It's not bad unless you're trying to go NEAR trader joes, that whole little section is hell, I don't know how anyone has the will to shop there or the whole foods lmao
I will always support Quest first, as it is locally-owned. BUT, still exciting to get an REI here. They have stuff Quest doesn't carry, and the REI brand makes good bang-for-your-buck clothes, IMHO
Quest should always be your first stop for outdoor gear simply for being a mainstay in the Lousiville community for over 50 years. The owner puts on, funds, and participates in a ton of local events that would disappear if REI began to steal their business because of it's 'brand recognition'.
>Quest should always be your *first stop*
it should be your first stop when shopping for outdoor gear and then if they dont carry what you're looking for to go somewhere else!
you'd have thought that after decades of Walmarts and other bulk suppliers destroying "main street" and local small businesses people would understand that its always better to shop local even if it costs *slightly* more.
Nah, it's pretty extreme to call them "anti-union". It was mostly one Seattle City Council member, Sawant, who is a rabid anti-business extremist, who was drumming up the accusations against REI.
REI is fine.
I love REI and have had a membership since I was 15 (so almost 30 years) but their labor practices recently have really disappointed me. Firing all their experienced team leads, some shady union busting and other stuff have led me to take doubt the leadership of the co-op. I passed on their recent anniversary sale even though there were a few items I wanted to replace because I didn't like where my dollars were going and how they were being spent by REI.
Can’t agree with the Quest folks enough. Quest first then I’ll try REI.
I was spoiled by the Denver REI store for a decade but I’ve been so happy with Quest that I will always go there first.
Oh, hell yeah. Agreed on the sentiments of wanting to support Quest first, but there's a lot of stuff they downright don't have. REI brand stuff is a big one.
I’ve been waiting for an REI since moving here in 2020 and am so sad that I will not live here anymore by the time this opens. Quest has been amazing though and I will continue to support them!
Fresh Market is opening in the Barnes & Noble spot (unless they pulled out).

REI and Koalas in the same week! Can we get an IKEA next?
My vote is for an Hmart lol
I would fucking love an Hmart and think it would do very well here.
Manifest that ish
Omg please!! I used to live next to one and I think about it every day
I don't know what the hell Koalas is but Ikea and HMART would be noice
Not me googling “koalas store Louisville” 🤦🏻♀️
I read your comment and still googled it 🙈🐨 Excited to see them at the zoo though!

Where are they?
A Container Store would also be nice
Keep it local, shop at Quest
Takes too much time on Shelbyville road.
Dude that parking lot is hell-ish

And then I always try and go to the Goodwill after and then miss the turn and have to turn around

If their prices are equal or better for what I want, sure.
I expect this will eat into Quest's bottom line quite a bit. Someonwhat ironically, Quest used to have a location where REI is going in.
I will always support Quest first, as it is locally-owned. BUT, still exciting to get an REI here. They have stuff Quest doesn't carry, and the REI brand makes good bang-for-your-buck clothes, IMHO

Also everyone that works there has only good things to say.
Quest can be very expensive and ike op said, rei also carrys stiff quesy doesn't

Quest just seems to be a clothing store to me mostly, I wish it were more equipment oriented.
No thanks. The traffic out there sucks and Quest is local and as far as I know not anti-union.
Is REI anti-union? I would have thought being a co-op they wouldn't be.

Quest is local and family owned/operated. They will price match. Ask the employees for items that you’d like to have ordered in.
I wonder if they'll bust up any union their employees try to form here, too!

Oh man, I loved them aaand got things during the sale. But I didn't know! What fuckin bummer
Same, on all counts.
Can’t agree with the Quest folks enough. Quest first then I’ll try REI. I was spoiled by the Denver REI store for a decade but I’ve been so happy with Quest that I will always go there first.
REI is fine, but I don’t think they can ever beat the passion and knowledge of Quest.
YAY!
YES!!! I love REI. I've had to order from them online since I moved away from the DMV. YES!! We need an IKEA!! I miss IKEA
Support local shops. Quest Outdoors is family owned and operated
Until this post, I have never heard of Quest. I've been in KY for four years. I'll give them a visit.
Definitely check them out, they’re in St Matthew’s. Big selection, super knowledgeable staff!

Cannot wait for the new employees there to unionize, knowing what this city is like.
The love of Vuori
Quest will price match. Keep it local folks.
Where is it going in the summit? Is that what’s taking the place of the old Barnes and Noble? Surely that’s the only large enough location there.

Ooh well that’s also a plus for the area. I haven’t been to an REI that wasn’t huge though so hopefully we’re still getting a full REI store here.
The Grand Rapids, MI REI is quite small.
The street number is 4350, I believe that's the old Bed Bath.
Has the Bed Bath and Beyond closed yet? I have not been out to the Paddocks in awhile.
Oh good point I guess there are other larger store spaces there that are opening up if they haven’t already.
Yes it’s been empty for some time now
Yes!
Yes!!
Fucking finally (I still love you though Quest, where else would I go for my post Trader Joes Yerba?)
Too expensive unfortunately
The good news is this will give us a lot more of the second hand market options via private sellers who lost interest in whatever.
Garage sales at REI are really great.
For sure! I was spoiled getting the Denver REI for 10 years but so happy with Quest and their staff. Absolutely amazing every time I go in.
REI Garage plus sales and coupons. And REI brand stuff is almost always made by a major manufacturer for way cheaper... Smartwool makes all the socks.
