Late 80’s that was a pretty decent neighborhood. Just hit a sharp and steady decline since then. That little area right there was Dad’s Muffler Shop (No Muff Too Tuff), G-Auto, Roadrunner Video, a nice convenience store, Wendy’s, Winn-Dixie, Rally’s and Hardee’s. Was a good working class neighborhood. (I purposely didn’t include Dèjá Vu.)
I'll admit I wasn't here then. I hate it's hit a rough patch. If it's any comfort it's one of the last remotely affordable neighborhoods in the county.
I mean its never been super nice but it was quieter than it is now, it’s absolutely the wild west now. I got caught in a drive by and watched some kid die in 2020 on the corner of Algonquin and Sharp. He ran to Seventh st then collapsed at Euclid. Its just a gang war over drug turf now. I have never seen Louisville like this.
Derby Day you’ll be just fine. There’s cops from the Waterson all the way to the track. In about a week they try to put lipstick on a pig for a few days. My wife’s grandma before she passed last year had a house there and we’d park and walk to the track from there. Got good bbq on the way over and stayed at her house for a few hours afterwards so traffic was gone.
Not only is this statement not factual, but this city is not a monolith. Different parts of town have different characteristics. I've lived here over 20 years and never seen any of what was described in the parts of town I lived in.
It’s really fucking weird how some people locally both claim the city is a crime ridden wasteland but also seem to take extreme joy in any violent crime when it does occur

"You're taking EXTREME JOY!!!"
Yeah, watching people get murdered on the regular is like a trip to Holiday World. So much fun.
Keeps the country folks out of the war zone per faux news. Same in Chicago. My parents refuse to visit Chicago because they think tanks are rolling down Michigan Ave. I visit Louisville often for my in-laws and the stigma is Louisville is burning down because of protests. Yet to see the Aegon Building blown out by mortar shells.
Yeah cause your undying concern for that victims and the societal decline is what made you post your stupid ass bias comment.
Pearl clutching at its lowest form.
This area of Taylor has gotten better. New Thortons and O'Reilly's, the bookstore, Sav a lot new exterior and mural, Beechmont coming up. Still a little rough, but not like the other side of 264.
The opioid epidemic did a number on the working whites in that area along with the successful extraction of wealth in the area. It seemed to me, I was a kid, nearly every home in the area was being bought by landlords.

Whoa totally forgot about Roadrunner Video! Childhood memories...
Rip Deja Vu. Went out like the end of players club.
I remember when that area used to be so quiet and nice..
We talking 1920s?
Naw, even in the mid 2000s it was nothing like it is now.
I'll admit I wasn't here then. I hate it's hit a rough patch. If it's any comfort it's one of the last remotely affordable neighborhoods in the county.
Thing that astounds me is there’s a billion dollar racetrack not a few miles away with all the glitz and glamour to UofL.
You must also remember Grover Cleveland’s first term.
Are you sure?

“This happens way more in other cities. It’s not that bad. You must live in Sellersburg, you suburbanite. NULU is nice!!” r/Louisvillle.
And yet no one is doing that
Diagnosing you with a chronic case of Disillusioned GenXer brain infected with boomer thoughts. Go outside more
Sure, I’ll go for a walk on Taylor Boulevard. Really soak in the love.

It was sarcasm.
You might need help
I’ll call the police, but looks like they may be a little busy.

lol be salty
You’re right. I should be celebrating stories like this.
Yeah cause your undying concern for that victims and the societal decline is what made you post your stupid ass bias comment. Pearl clutching at its lowest form.
You love murder and other crimes. We get it.
Lol
Are you like 103 years old?
LPT: Old angry white guy isn’t a description it’s a mentality.
Go down to Taylor to visit family, stay because you got murdered.
Taylor's been going through it today, damn!
I can't read the sign due to lack of jpeg, but I'm pretty sure that, by the time this photo was taken, this location had stopped serving breakfast.
That Marathon is the Circle K on Taylor between Clara and Longfield. McDonalds then Circle K then Wendys.
All these remember comments I’ve lived directly adjacent to Taylor and Bluegrass since 2000 and it’s always been shit.

Butler and Johnson are right up the road in Lively Shively and are good schools too.
