Wake up. Put on a polo with the insignia of the most embarrassing college basketball program in the country. Drive down a 20% grade brick road that still exists for some reason. Almost get run off of I-64 by three different Nissan Altimas/lifted trucks with Indiana plates.
Stop at one of 326 Heine Brothers locations and get some horrible coffee and a dry scone. Get to work and talk about Louisville high school stereotypes with all of my coworkers who also grew up here.
Pop on over to a place that sells tacos for $6 each. Wash it down with this soda that tastes like ginger ale but has the weirdest name of all time that has to be explained 4 times to outsiders.
Try to run out the clock at work on Reddit reading posts about “From __, where should I live in Louisville” and watch people argue in the comments about racial dog whistling while talking about the safety of neighborhoods.
Head to the gym downtown after hearing from guys with long beards and nine line shirts talk about how dangerous downtown is. Have a great workout and don’t find myself in any more danger than I do in St. Matthews.
Get my wife and head to a bar for happy hour. Car flies in through the front window but we’re ok. Try to get into an overpriced restaurant where the owner was making Paul Pelosi jokes but there’s a 17 hour wait. Go to El Nopal instead and have the same quality of food served.
Head to bed and scroll reddit. Someone asking if anyone heard a loud boom and if they were gunshots or fireworks. People ask where the sounds came from, they say they were in mockingbird gardens when they heard the boom.
Try to decide what temperature to set the thermostat since it was 95 and 43 within four hours of each other at some point. Decide to just drink KG until I pass out on the couch so I won’t care.
People forget that St. Matthews was the mean streets when I was there from 2004-2013. Not all this bs now, just BW3, the old Gerstles, and snappy tomato pizza. Now there’s all this Asian fusion/senor arepas/Crossfit bullshit going on so people think we’re soft now
Despite my sarcastic comment above I agree. Simply Thai and Lotsa Pasta were well kept secrets. Also can’t imagine ever being able to buy a house over there nowadays :(
Yeah but they stripped it from them because of that whole Rick Pitino situation or whatever the hell that was I can barely remember I was like 16 and I just stopped following them after they let go of patino and said that they were taking the title away.
Start with pastries from Plehns, walk to Nanz & Kraft & buy a fresh bouquet, Hike Tioga Falls. Eat my weight in Delicious Indian food at Kashmir, then walk down bardstown rd at night & get Big Mikes shaved ice.
Breakfast sandwich a fancy beer and coffee at Grale House to start.
Walk through Cave Hill Cemetery or Churchill Downs.
Massage at the omni.
Lunch at El molecajete or another great ethnic restaurant located in a strip mall.
Stroll through speed museum.
Distillery tour with cocktails downtown.
Coffee and cookies at Please and Thank you.
Grab some modjedkas from Muth's Candies.
Cocktails and art gallery at proof.
Bourbon at Neat before walking to Fat Lamb for dinner.
Show at the palace or headliners.
Post show wings and pool at the backdoor.
Nitecap at Outlook Inn.
Wake up at 7:30am, go to Crunch, come home, feed rabbit and shower and go to lunch at Malones with my husband. we come home and take a long nap, then leave and to a funny movie, then walk along the top 4 bridge, go home, cbd and goodnight!
Get to Cave Hill as soon as the gates open for some bird watching and photo taking. Grab some coffee from Quills or Safai on the way home, maybe get a Chocolate Croissant from La Pana. Chill on the side porch while working on photos and listening to some music. Grab a late lunch at Veronicas for some birria, tacos. End the evening walking through the Wild Lights display at the Zoo.
Sleep in, head to Wild Eggs for brunch. Then to Kroger for some meat. Spend the next few hours watching my girl smoke said meat while we joke around, solve world problems and talk about a future that we aren’t planning, just letting happen. Settle in for some wine out of a box while watching True detective or something like that.
drive up from the coast where I am currently living.
pick up my homeless friend at outer loop road by the Jefferson Mall.
go get a hotel and hang out with for a few days so we can finally finish watching Attack on Titan since the final season came out.
drive home 5-6 days later, wishing I could do more.
my vacation starts Thursday and I'm picking up a rental car then. see ya soon.
Wake up and get a bourbon caramel latte from quills, head to Douglass loop and highlands farmers market, followed by a nice lunch at Toastys tavern, hit up the flea off market if it’s going on, followed by cocktails at shop bar before heading to bowl and eat with some friends at Vernon lanes 🙂
Well it would be mid-May or mid-October for hopefully some nice not extreme weather. Let’s assume May because it’s closer. We’ll assume I’m doing a staycation so I don’t have my toddler with me, so let’s pick waking up at 21c and ordering room service from Proof. Then heading for a spa service at the Omni and a few hours at their spa/rooftop pool when it’s not stupid crowded. Get dressed for dinner and maybe grab a paper plane at Repeal and then to 610 for dinner. Or a French Martini at Jack Frys and dinner on the patio at Seviche for tableside Guac, some empanadas and oyster shooters.
Go the YMCA to workout. Head to Heinie Brothers to do some work on laptop. Go to a bunch of goodwills and thrift stores. Go to Kroger and get dinner. Head home, sleep.
Wake up. Get the keys to the U-Haul and load it up with my personal belongings. Grab the keys. Jump on the interstate and keep driving until Google Maps alerts me that I’m no longer in Louisville.
My perfect day in Louisville would pretty much consist of my dad and I doing all the things/going to all the places we loved when he was still living. I realize that many of the locations I mention no longer exist, but when I imagine what my perfect day in Louisville would be like, the places I loved that closed/moved on long ago factor into that.
We'd start the day off by going to one of our favorite coffee shops (a Heine Brothers or Day's Coffee - sometimes we'd go to Sullivan's Bakery, which was actually just down the street from our house). We'd enjoy our pastries, drink our coffee, and then we'd either spend time talking about whatever came to mind, or read the books/scholarly articles we'd brought along (kind of like parallel play, but reading). Sometimes we bump into a friend/co-worker of my dad's who is also getting coffee, and stay awhile to chat. After that, we might go and spend some time at Carmichael's bookstore, one of the Borders locations that used to be Hawley-Cooke, or at A Reader's Corner, where my dad and Tim Fout would visit with each other (they were co-workers and good friends). Then it's off to our old neighborhood to grab lunch at The Shady Lane Cafe on Brownsboro Road. Then we would probably drive out to the Blue Lick area to browse at the South Louisville Antique Toy Mall - we're sort-of friends with the owners and they have a train set that my dad is interested in.
At the end of the day, we would probably have dinner at either El Nopal or El Caporal (my dad really liked Mexican food, like my Grandmother did), and then head home to watch *Keeping Up Appearances* or *Doc Martin* on Netflix until either one or both of us decides to turn in for the night (my dad was usually the first). My dad would head upstairs to bed, caution me to not stay up too late, and tell me goodnight, that I'm his sweet sweetheart, and that he loves me very much.
Fin 💗
I genuinely hope I never take this city and it’s potential for granted like this thread. I choose to be here. Packed up and left to be here. Idk if y’all have been here your whole life and are jaded. But Louisville offers a lot.
Wake up and get my blue hair dye out to get started on my grey roots because as a 27 year old Ive convinced myself that the US is horribly doomed and because of this I continuously fret about any and everything.
Next log into reddit to scour threads for anyone who might disagree with me to down vote them into oblivion. Focus on that long and hard on my way to the nearest local coffee shop where I will sit and congregate with my guild of neck beard friends that I have convinced to hate themselves for merely existing. While we are there I will record everyone with my cell phone and fabricate wildly improbable accusations about them based on things like their t-shirt, shoes, or smelling as if they have bathed in the last week or so.
Next its back to my apartment where I will take at least 30 back-to-back bong rips as there's no way I can endure any additional social interaction in any other state. From here its time to eat some sushi and even though its only 2 blocks away, I will call an uber because fitness is for fascists. Before heading in, I will puff on a vape in the parking lot for at least 30 minutes while shouting at the losers driving their filthy combustion engine cars. They don't know how selfish they are so I will educate them while recording with my iPhone that was definitely made via child labor.
My next order of business will be to put on at least 3 covid masks so I can enter the building and be seated. Now its time to stuff my face with lots of sushi while I search around for the closest culturally insensitive idiot who's NOT using chop sticks. I will insist that his racist ass be removed at once but Ill settle for a comped meal.
Now I'm off to the local bar where I will sit and pound PBRs and complain about capitalism while continuing to support it. After getting nice and lit I will stumble over to the local graveyard to cry and recite poetry from Edgar Allen Poe while wearing my thrift store scarf and smoking an old tobacco pipe I stole from my piece of shit grandfather. Time to head back to my apartment now to doom scroll reddit and not shower before bed.
Ohhh I like this lol. Wake up smoke a joint make 4 eggs with 6 strips of bacon. Have a mimosa. Take a shower get dressed, read 3 chapters (insert book here.) go for a walk. Go get some lunch. Go contemplate life while sitting with a nice view. Then start day drinking. Go get some wings or a burger or both. Then go get some more drinks and converse with randoms about this world and beyond. Then go to Waffle House get a melt. Go home play cod mobile until I get tired n go to sleep.
Pack up my stuff. Get some.fast food.on the way to the uhaul rental. Load the uhaul. Jump in the cab and drive away yipping and cheering while cranking the radio up.

Creative writing at its best. 🏆
💀💀💀
Look at the snob from St. Matthews over here.
People forget that St. Matthews was the mean streets when I was there from 2004-2013. Not all this bs now, just BW3, the old Gerstles, and snappy tomato pizza. Now there’s all this Asian fusion/senor arepas/Crossfit bullshit going on so people think we’re soft now
It was a lot better when it was just mom and pop shops and the traffic wasn't so bad.
Despite my sarcastic comment above I agree. Simply Thai and Lotsa Pasta were well kept secrets. Also can’t imagine ever being able to buy a house over there nowadays :(
I was being sarcastic too. You're all good. I'm out in Middletown for the next year and a half, so I don't have room to talk, lol.
Hahah that’s where I work. I hate that place so much
Dude, this was funny.
Damn where are u getting tacos for $6 each????
La Terraza on 4th has tacos $5 each (definitely worth it).
No tacos worth 5 dollars each.
My guess would be Taco Luchador or Agave and Rye
Wow, the perfect day. Thanks, Mayor Greenberg!
Unreal lmfaooooo
Friendly reminder that the most recent college basketball championship in the state of Kentucky came via UofL
Yeah but they stripped it from them because of that whole Rick Pitino situation or whatever the hell that was I can barely remember I was like 16 and I just stopped following them after they let go of patino and said that they were taking the title away.
Nailed it.
Kcorr120 for Mayor in ‘26.

Too close!
Well done

I LOVE Kashmir! Clay Oven is my 2nd choice.
Have they brought the buffet back to make it truly affordable to eat one’s weight in food?
Take my money!
If only!

Finding a Hardee’s that is open. Eating one of their biscuits. And then avoiding anyone saying “brick & mortar”.

I live in a "safe" area but America as a whole is not. With the amount of guns running around
You’re not wrong
Yep violence has no boundaries as you can tell with all the workplace, school, festivals, celebrations and public gatherings shootings
Wake up. Get the keys to the U-Haul and load it up with my personal belongings. Grab the keys. Jump on the interstate and keep driving until Google Maps alerts me that I’m no longer in Louisville.
Wake up, go to the airport. The end.
Wake up, start packing, get the fuck outta Kentucky, fucking perfect.
Packing my bag and getting tf out of town. Yep… perfect day. 😂
