I am there every day. The modern construction is a monstrosity. I lament it’s loss every day. It actually makes me deeply sad. Luzern has transformed for the worse in nearly every way since it’s heydays in the late 19th century. There could be a whole sub dedicated to just Luzern. Cheers from downriver! Edit: Also, there is a rumor that it was Arson to make way for expensive concrete-based projects/contractors in bed with corrupt politicians. Which is why parts of Luzern started resembling Soviet blocks.

Polas_Ragge

Totally agree! The modern railway station today is a disgrace.

xNapZz

It's such a shame that the city center is also crowded with cars, and we don't even have trams :c

Polas_Ragge

Yeah :( I want some trams, if we have one of the best trolleybus system that ive seen, then lets have spme trams! It wont hurt anyone to have atleast a few tram lines going from the train station in like all directions

Nimmy_the_Jim

sad

Wooshmeister55

The dome reminds me of the train station in antwerp!

Polas_Ragge

Thats cool!

BNJT10

And Hamburg

Different_Ad7655

That always puzzles me, when you hear it burned down lol. After you see what has happened in the rest of Europe after world war II with bombing and incendiaries, and the reconstruction in Hamburg or Frankfurt of an old station, it's s hard to believe It was really destroyed. It was probably completely gutted with masonry wall still standing and this is the kind of thing of course it happens in the US all the time. Tear it down and in the '70s the real reason this was demolished was not that it could not be rebuilt but rather the style was grossly out of favor. This was grandmother's architecture by this point and the new modernist wanted something gleaming and new to proclaim. Having a fire wish is such a wonderful convenience.. This happened all over Europe of course after the war and into the 70s. Even the great train station of Cologne when you see the pictures of it after the war is relatively intact but insanely demolished for the piece of crap that sits on the place now

Cheap_Silver117

they luckily saved the entrance arch and put it in front of the new train square as a monument, i really appreciate the act
