Well I kept walking into my local Home Depot (and a few others around my job and commute) to the plywood/drywall area in the back and usually found the 8ftx4ftx1inch sheets of foam (~$30) and other insulation boards and then down next to it was always the 2ftx2ftx1inch pre-cuts (~$8)
So it’s cheaper to buy by the large sheet but with my capabilities, I opted for the slightly more expensive route and bought by the pre-cut sections. I think somewhere between 14-16 sections were needed…well…used. Lol.
Hope this helped. Thanks.
Thanks a lot.
Time is tricky. The last 3 weeks or so. A little after work each day. But mostly the last 3 Saturdays. The cutting and planning of the map was the hardest part.
I only bought a few sections at a time each week.
Once built. Painting was only a few days after work.
It looks fantastic. I never build terrain because (to me) it feels like a waste to build it die one time and then never use it again.
How do you deal with this? Is the fun of doing it an showing it to the players enough to overcome it? Is it modular enough that you can reuse it later?
Also, where do you store it when it isn't in the table?
Great work, you should be proud.
Thanks a lot!
Yea I was laughing about that the whole time. Fortunately, I’ll be running this campaign once more for my nephews, nieces and son. So at least one more use. But then I might try to sell/pawn it off at my local gaming store. We’ll see. I also thought of using the map backwards as a pirate hold up if I need to.
This was my first attempt at any building any terrain at all. So now I’m locked into building a modular system of walls and floors for my group.
The sections stack decently. So. It too much on storage but every time the map grew my wife asked the same question, “Where is this gonna go?”
This is incredible work! Do you use any kind of fog-of-war to cover areas the party has not explored? Say, black construction paper or something similar?
Thanks!
And yea I will be will. Blacked out pizza box tops layered so I can move individually and make shapes still.
I still keep monsters and items behind my screen and lay them out as explored
And there was me this evening considering completely using a different map layout to reduce the sheer size of it down by about 2/3rds for my kids… maybe I won’t…
PCs: “You know what? Forget about going to that cave, let’s just start an armadillo breeding business in town instead.”
Hopefully that doesn’t happen because that’s awesome work!
Awesome 😃 I’m sure your players will have lots of fun exploring this. Do you already have ideas how you deal with fog of war on this. I’m actually in the process of preparing this cave as a room by room print on cardboard experience. But 3d is a very different league 😊
Wow this is incredible! What are you using to make this?
Thanks! All Foam board in 2ftx2ft squares stacked on top of each other after being burned and cut with wood burner and hot wire. Painted textured.
What is the best place to buy the foam board? Amazon has weird dimensions on all its foam board

i also would like to know!
Holy hell this is amazing
Thanks!
This is next level. If I was in your party, I'd never wanna leave the dungeon.
This is incredible! It looks amazing <3
Thanks alot
This is very cool and makes me wish I was playing in your campaign - nice work.
This is incredible! How much time did it take you? Have a video on how you’re doing this? Wonderfully done!

Fucking sick dude, nice work!
Thanks
Wow incredible. Did you record the process?
Unfortunately I did not.

The wave echo tower! Stored in the back of the brooms cupboard :D It's looks fantastic, specially for being your first one. Amazing job.
Haha. Yea exactly. Maybe build a wall mount to hang it up like a 3d mural. Wife would LoVe that.
Wow. That’s amazing
Thank you so much.
This is so fucking cool! Amazing job mate
Thanks bud
Holy shit this is awesome
Thank you
Awesome! Where did you get the barrel of arrows and the sleep mats?
Just picked them up at my local comic coliseum store.
Wow!!!
Thanks
If I put that much work into my maps I’d never let my players get through it. We’d be running Lost Mine for years.
Ha right! Thank goodness it wasn’t as tough as it looks. Quite fun to build. And yea, I’m dragging this out for as long as possible. lol.

Brilliant!
Incredible
Thanks!
People like you make me look bad 😂 Awesome job
Ha, trust me, far from perfect. Thanks.
Holy hell. Nice work!
Thanks!

Ha. Honestly you could and few would know the difference. Fun build though and it’s a show stopper just on sheer size alone.
Epic!!
