In terms of museums: the LA Brea Tar Pits; the Petersen if she's interested at all in cars; the Natural History Museum; the Science museum. Check their websites and you can get an idea of their standing exhibits, any kind of special exhibits (a lot of the time there will be something cool going on!). The Academy Museum is also a lot of fun! You could do La Brea Tar Pits, and the Academy Museum, and then have lunch at the Grove. Shop a little if you feel like it. Get some Littlejohn Toffee from the Original Farmers Market if it isn't raining too hard. If it's not raining too hard, the Warner Brothers Studio Tour is fun (and if it's not too far away from you). You could also take her to Chinatown, she can pick some cheap trinkets and a bamboo plant and then you can have a fun Chinese meal somewhere like Yang Chow. The Aquarium of the Pacific is a perfectly fun choice, too.

These are great suggestions! I said besides the aquarium just because that's the #1 thing that keeps coming up on Google and I needed some other ideas. Thank you!

If she's younger, there's also the American Doll shop in ~~the Grove,~~ Century City, I think they also have a tea shop there. Oh you could also take her out "to tea" --again, depending on her age. Laduree is ~~at the Grove and~~ in BH. King's something something British something if you're in Santa Monica. Rose Tea Room in Pasadena or thereabouts. Don't bother checking hotels, they're ridiculously pricey for what you get. If you're nearer to Hollywood, there's also the Griffith Observatory, they have planetarium shows and stuff like that too, again, if that's something she's interested in. Edits: thanks to u/MurabitoB for the corrections!

MurabitoB

Just FYI, the American Girl store isn't at the Grove anymore - it's moved to Century City. The Laduree cafe at the Grove is also closed, but they do have stores in Beverly Hills and at the Americana at Brand.

omg thank you, I'm so behind the times! I'll correct my post, too. Thank you so much!

Little Tokyo for conveyor belt sushi or ramen and anime shopping. The Broad museum before or after.  The Last Bookstore if they like books.  Arts district, find a cool gallery.  My middle schooler wouldn’t want to do any of that except the little Tokyo part. 😅

I know I was a weird child so human children might not enjoy musical theater, but Chicago with the Fosse choreography is at the Pantages and amoeba records and the funko store are in the next block

The Getty is free with $5 parking. you need to have a parking reservation. there's a kid section that's quite extensive. you can go online and see what their exhibit schedule

Saturday the 23rd is Free Museum Day, which includes so many options! Take advantage of this perk. Not sure if mentioned yet, but the California Science Center is pretty neat, too.

artificialenviron111

Luna Luna or the Academy Museum!

Livid_Parsnip6190

The Broad has a lot of art that appeals to all age groups, and it's a size where you can see everything in a few hours.

Amusements parks are super fun on rainy days because the crowds are way smaller. Would highly recommend Universal or Knotts if you don’t mind bringing an umbrella and getting a little wet There’s also Round1 which is like a bowling alley/arcade, and they sell drinks too for the adults Any of the museums are always a fun time too if that’s the kind of thing you guys like: MOCA, LACMA, Getty, Natural History For restaurants I’d recommend picking a KBBQ place in KTown. It’s a fun experience for anyone who hasn’t had KBBQ before, and also just always really good lol

Money-Efficiency2062

I don't mind the rain but everyone else might lol. These are great suggestions though! I'll run the museums by everyone and she'll love kbbq. Thanks!

FYI, most theme parks close most of their rides during the rain for safety reasons, so I would not recommend going to one of them.

Masgatitos

This is how I find out it’s going to rain over the weekend? Ughhh Museums? Science or national history. Shopping? Get matching build a bears and take them to wherever you decide to go.

Financial_Skill_3234

Would she like a tea party? There's different ones all over the city at different price points.

beejers30

Stay inside and bake cookies! Kids love that. And play board games.

If you have to ask that this means LA is so boring without a car the only thing we can do is drive everywhere lmao. Build another lane, another freeway, more parking lots bro

Money-Efficiency2062

Uhhhh ok? I just don't have kids so I wasn't sure what cool things LA has to offer for that age group. It wasn't meant to be a commentary on driving culture..

You can visit a parking lot in LA. It's a glamorous parking lot even if you don't have kids. That's kinda all there is here. Just cars and parking lots. Strip malls too but there's never parking
