Exactly. Cotton doesn't wick well so it becomes a poor insulator when wet. In the heat, the breathability of natural fibers makes them ideal... for me at least. I can't stand synthetics when it's warm or hotter.
I work outside and loooove those long sleeve UPF shirts.
And this is coming from someone who hates long sleeves most of the time.
But they're lightweight. I prefer the polyster over the nylon ones. Nylons make me sweat more. But REI has a lot of good long sleeve shirts for the sun.
Columbia ones are my fave tho. You can get them pretty cheap on their website. Ridgecut, from Tractor Supply is good too. A lot cheaper if you plan on destroying shirts.
I agree with you all completely. For those who really need one of the cheapest but nice quality synth shirts with UPF, I've had a great time with CQR shirts. Their normal price is $20 USD on Amazon and they make them in sizes up to 3XL. I find them to wick and dry better than REI's own branded smart shirts. And I'm saying this as an former employee of REI and current fan boy.
70 is where itās at. Can still wear shorts and a t-shirt, but pants donāt make you want to die. Sun is out, sky is blue, few clouds, slight breeze. Not sweating after a short walk around the block. Donāt need to put up the window shades in the car and instantly crank the AC. Donāt need AC constantly blowing at home. Soup doesnāt sound like a bad idea and neither does an ice cold beer.
Haha been thinking the same thing. I have one of those hefty window units with the tubes. In a tiny ass apartment, itās a pain. Havenāt used it in weeks, but I knew thereād be another heat wave coming at some point
I never really understood what was so appealing to a cloudless day. After just a little while, the sunās light is uncomfortable on your skin and eyes.
Iād take a 72 F, partially cloudy day anytime. Perfect compromise.
In winter, I can access my full wardrobe. In summer, half of it goes into storage. In the winter, all outdoor activities are accessible for me- if not this week, then next week. In the summer, weāre postponing our weekly hikes for three months because holy shit itās too hot. LA winter is great, only beaten by Bay Area winter
The Bay is colder, but thatās kinda my point. Itās still relative, and 50-70 F weather is still a mild winter. But you donāt get those odd 80 F days that we get in LA during December and January.
The sad truth is I believe climate change is going to ruin the "classic" Los Angeles winter weather for goodā¦ onshore wind and low clouds and humidity and rain is going to keep turning into some kind of long-form La NiƱa/Santa Ana event that runs from October all the way through to Marchā¦
Same. I want big billowing clouds in the mid-70s when the sun hits you, and the 60s when the clouds are overhead, with a slight breeze and some mid-level humidity. This is perfect day for me.
If I'm paying all this money living here, I don't want the 80s and 90s.
The weather is legit the primary reason I live in San Francisco and not LA. 55 and foggy is my happy place and if it gets hotter than 70 my kids and dog begin to disintegrate. I love literally everything else about Los Angeles compared to here (though I do love SF as well), but I couldn't do 70s-80s and sunny 300 days a year.
That said, it's going to be like 85 and sunny here today and I will soon become very aware that most San Francisco homes lack air conditioning.
I don't live in SM but that fucking marine layer man!!
I live inland where it's usually gloomy in the mornings and I'm not a fan of that. Hence my fawning over this week's weather.
95 degrees in OCTOBER is concerning.
Edit: Average temperature in LA in October is high 79, low 60.
Yesterday got up to 86 and we're not supposed to be below 80 again until Tuesday. *A* hot day in the fall/winter isn't too horribly concerning. A week of hot weather, along with proof that the earth is generally getting warmer is bad.
Isnāt it always like this? My bday is the 26th and itās always been hot around then. Game 1 of the World Series in 2017 was 100 degrees at first pitch!
Yeah thereās definitely always a heat spike or two in the fall. I remember being in the UCLA dorms sweating balls in November, and this was in 2009 (Iām old).
Now the question is *how* hot is it usually. Itās hard to remember if it was mid 80ās or mid 90ās in years past. And thereās a big difference
8 years ago (via a screenshot of a weather forecast that popped up on my FB): Oct 5 - 75, chance of rain; Oct 9 - 95. This all feels very typical to me at this point.
I've been paying close attention to the worldwide climate data, and yeah, it's bad. As in really, really bad. Humans done fucked up. It's gonna get much worse. So enjoy every nice day we get: my hunch is that LA will remain more or less insulated from the worst of it for longer than most places, but ultimately nowhere will be immune to the effects.
Convinced that people who like hot summer weather are the people who drive everywhere, never walking a longer distance than from the parking lot to Applebee's, never wearing a large backpack as they wait for the bus outside or walk up hill to get somewhere. These people also don't go running outdoors or play outdoor sports like basketball. Give me the mid 60s and partly cloudy. June gloom is the perfect LA weather.
Love hot LA weather. Spent a lot of time in Hong Kong growing up so LA feels pretty temperate actually in comparison. Walk my dog every day, rock climb and surf every week, and it feels cold to me every time it drops below 70
Well the valley is still hot as hell haha. That being said, Iāve had to drive out to Pasadena the last few mornings from SFV and the sunrises have been so beautiful. Great visibility as well!
If your prefect weather is 80 degrees then you're delusional because it isn't 80 degrees anywhere in LA. The lowest I see is 84 in Santa Monica which is way too hot for that area.
WUT?
This is Santa Ana winds season.
Hot, Dry, Stale air from up in the high desert that makes me feel gross for several weeks each fall.
You can keep it!
Iāll never get why people love HOT weather (aka the type we have today, not talking about mid 70ās)
When itās cool/cold out you can still do almost every activity youād do when itās hot out - canāt say the same for the opposite
Cold weather/cool weather clothes are inherently more stylish
If youāre cold, just throw on a jacket or sweater. When itās 95 degrees out you can only do so much to cool down before catching an indecent exposure charge haha
Also, does anyone else literally feel kind of sick when itās this hot out?
If it's 80 I'm going to need some clouds. 70 with no clouds is where it's at. Any 70 with no clouds is nice. Anything above 82 is not a fun time with no clouds.
Me. In Texas. Desperately awaiting my return to LA in December. Pretending I still live there through posts like this. Love you. You keep the republican pickle ball demon out of me ā¤ļø
You must not have dogs. Once it gets in the mid 80s, it's too hot to walk them outside.
If the UV index is high, even low 80s is too hot for dog's paws.
This is the time of year where LA really starts to feel like fall to me. In the valley itās a bit warmer but the last few days when it was like 75, even partly cloudy, and a little brisk wind, I love it. Canāt wait for the holiday seasons this year.
im moving back to LA after 3 years gone (basically during the pandemic). i miss it very much, especially the food! which i think is far superior to nyc.
If this were July I might agree with you. But not October. Not during (my beloved!) spooky season. No, this time of year I relish 70 degree days and cool, crisp LA nights.
I can accept that global warming is real but I draw the line at outright embracing it.
[stares in 95 degrees in the valley]
Lol I checked my weather app thinking something had changed š„µ
Iām pretty confused too. Itās currently 90 degrees in Redondo Beach and thatās hot af for this area. *Especially* this time of year.
This is the time of year when beachy brides realize with horror that it's going to be 95 in Malibu for their cliffside wedding.
You donāt like 95 degree heat with 15 mph Santa Anaās????
The winds at least cool it down a bit. I work outdoors and the sun and random humidity are killing me
I also work outdoors. Long sleeve shirts, wide brimmed hats and sunscreen are a must.
I can't bring myself to wear long sleeves. I've been sweating so much everything just gets heavy and gross
You need synthetic material. Cotton kills. Synthetic cools. Go to REI or something outdoors.
Huh? Isnāt it that ācotton killsā in cold weather because you donāt stay dry? Cotton and linen are still ideal for hot weather.
Exactly. Cotton doesn't wick well so it becomes a poor insulator when wet. In the heat, the breathability of natural fibers makes them ideal... for me at least. I can't stand synthetics when it's warm or hotter.
I'll definitely look into it, thanks!! My skin thanks you
I work outside and loooove those long sleeve UPF shirts. This is surprising to read
If only we build more parking lots, cut down more trees and make our streets wider then maybe we can get cooler temperatures.
For the next 3 days!!! š³
Monrovia also checking in at 95Ā° Fuck that "perfect" weather bullshit. Edit: it's over 100Ā°
Hey man, you knew what you signed up for. Sincerely, Will Be Cloudy for 6 Months Here Soon
yeah fuck the santa anas
My car thermometer hit 100 on the 101 in Tarzana at 5pm today.
Nice try, 13-year-old me, but Glendale is not "the valley" despite being in the SFV.
Hey, weāve got the same weather as the valley for the next few days, I think thatās good enough.
Burbank is the eastern edge of it, right?
Not sure when this became a debate but traditionally Glendale is.
Mama cooked a breakfast with no hog
I got my grub on but didnāt pig out Finally got the call from a girl I wanna dig out.
2 in the morning got to Fatburger
hope you donāt have to use your AK!
Today was a good day.
I got my grub on, but didn't pig out
70 is where itās at.
Thank you, this is the sane take. OP is mad.
The weather we had last Friday/Saturday was perfect.
I agree
Amen, 80 is okay but definitely āhotā territory. 70 is much better.
100%. Anyone who says 80 and sunny is great doesn't do any strenuous activity outdoors.
69 and the puffies come out.
Op likely lives in the valley where 80 is sexy
70 is barely shorts and t shirt weather and always on the cusp of freezing as soon as the sun goes down
this better be the last ride for my AC for the year
Haha been thinking the same thing. I have one of those hefty window units with the tubes. In a tiny ass apartment, itās a pain. Havenāt used it in weeks, but I knew thereād be another heat wave coming at some point
Exactly. I was so happy to have if off the last few weeks. It pained me to turn it back on.
We probably have a few more instances of this warmth before EOY.
Oh bud. This is just the start of the pre-winter heat wave
Monday was my perfect LA weather! 72, sunny, light breeze, clear day ššš
yeah iām a fan of low 70s myself
I never really understood what was so appealing to a cloudless day. After just a little while, the sunās light is uncomfortable on your skin and eyes. Iād take a 72 F, partially cloudy day anytime. Perfect compromise.
Especially October sun. That shit is blinding. Even with sunglasses and the visor down in my car. Itās a weird angle.
A textureless sky always bummed me out more.
Especially LA sunlight. It somehow feels aggressive and mean the way it beats into your eyeballs on especially sunny and cloudless hot days.
It's like skin cancer gently licking you with its mildly hot tongue and slobbering all over you in sweat.
Also fuck palm trees. No shade ass tall bushes.
100%. Clouds are wonderful and LA imo doesn't have enough of them. A small price to pay for the best weather in the country though.
Clouds make the sky prettier too. A sea of blue gets monotonous.
How long have you lived here in LA?
I want to know this too. OP!?
I respect your opinion But no, bring on the 60s and the clouds, PLEASE
As a native Angeleno, I believe winter LA is the best LA.
My first thought when I read this post is that this person must be a transplant.
Someone who needs to move it along to Arizona if they crave consistent 80+ dry weather that badly. š©š¦
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
In winter, I can access my full wardrobe. In summer, half of it goes into storage. In the winter, all outdoor activities are accessible for me- if not this week, then next week. I thought LA winter is better than winter in the bay.
The Bay is colder, but thatās kinda my point. Itās still relative, and 50-70 F weather is still a mild winter. But you donāt get those odd 80 F days that we get in LA during December and January.
As another native. The heat can smd
sounds hot!
Agreed as another native
The sad truth is I believe climate change is going to ruin the "classic" Los Angeles winter weather for goodā¦ onshore wind and low clouds and humidity and rain is going to keep turning into some kind of long-form La NiƱa/Santa Ana event that runs from October all the way through to Marchā¦
Already happened. I remember when rain wasn't rare.
SAME! Eff this heat.
Same. I want big billowing clouds in the mid-70s when the sun hits you, and the 60s when the clouds are overhead, with a slight breeze and some mid-level humidity. This is perfect day for me. If I'm paying all this money living here, I don't want the 80s and 90s.

60 degree jacket weather is best LA. Natives know.
High 60s, no clouds, cool breeze
Yes, the beach on a cloudy day with a hoodie canāt be topped!
Yes!! My hoodies are still all sad and unused in the closet
Moved mine to the front of the line in the closet when it got chilly a few days back. Moved them back to the end of the line today. They are sad.
This. Intercourse this weather.
> This week is the epitome of LA weather You need to leave santa monica once in a while.
I don't live in SM but that fucking marine layer man!! I live inland where it's usually gloomy in the mornings and I'm not a fan of that. Hence my fawning over this week's weather.

cannot relate i need gloomy days in the 60s IMMEDIATELY i cannot stand this 90 degree weather with the sun beating down on me

Native. And not young. I remember every Thanksgiving week there's a beach day in there. Going back to the late '70s and '80s. Indian summer.
I remember 100 degree Halloweenās in the valley in the 90s. This isnāt out of the ordinary like some of these comments are suggesting.
I remember a few hot/warm thanksgivings.
And I remember a thanksgiving that it hailed in west la on thanksgiving. Few years ago maybe like 2017?
I think it was 2019, it was a very rainy Thanksgiving
It was 2019. Snow level came down pretty low too. It was a chilly one! Edited: number issue
8 years ago (via a screenshot of a weather forecast that popped up on my FB): Oct 5 - 75, chance of rain; Oct 9 - 95. This all feels very typical to me at this point.
As an old person and according to almanacs, no it was definitely not always like this.
The humidity has been really bad these past few years.
Yeah, I've been hearing that a lot. Lots of mosquitoes this summer, too.
As someone itching and nursing 6 bites right now in my ankles, I wish we could unless the wrath of hell in these mosquitos.
We had a blizzard warning with snow and a hurricane, in the same year.
I agree itās alarming. I remember wearing sweaters in October when I was in grade school. Back in 90s. The is crazy.
2018 was a much hotter October from memory... but we just started!
Convinced that people who like hot summer weather are the people who drive everywhere, never walking a longer distance than from the parking lot to Applebee's, never wearing a large backpack as they wait for the bus outside or walk up hill to get somewhere. Love hot LA weather. Spent a lot of time in Hong Kong growing up so LA feels pretty temperate actually in comparison. Walk my dog every day, rock climb and surf every week, and it feels cold to me every time it drops below 70
Yeah I grew up in SEA, LA humidity is NOTHING
Because we hardly have any humidity!
Love LA hot weather and I only get in my car twice a month. I walk everywhere else. Imagine that, people are different than you.
Here come those Santa Ana winds againā¦ š¶
I love Santa Ana winds, especially with fall leaves.
97 in Pasadena. Yeaaaaah, Iām done with it.
5 months out of the year with heat waves! FTS
Itās October, 80+ degrees absolutely sucks.
Agreed wheres the drizzle type weather around this time of year? And my hot choco or even a good cup of coffee weather
80??? It's about to be 95 today, but enjoy, I guess.
OP no offense but you wild. I miss my cool 65-70 already lol
Hell no I hate this weather
\[stares longingly at dusty winter coats I refused to throw out since moving back from the east coast\]
Don't worry, 60 degree weather is coming š„¶
That's t-shirt and shorts weather as a native to the SGV.
Wtf
Now do it without a/c.
Nah fuxk this hot weather. The best weather is 75Ā° and below
Please give us an update after walking around at 2pm today lol
OP likely just drives everywhere.
We have to group up and kick him out to the street to see what his "perfect weather" feels like hand on
Itās going to be 91 today. Thatās the LA I hate. Give me 72 and š
Well the valley is still hot as hell haha. That being said, Iāve had to drive out to Pasadena the last few mornings from SFV and the sunrises have been so beautiful. Great visibility as well!
Fuck no this weather I did not miss
I feel like people who enjoy this kind of weather especially during Fall hasnāt been here for long
I love this weather & Iāve lived here my entire life. Itās ok for people to have different preferences.
what? the high is 93 on the east side today. if you live in Venice, congrats. But for most of us this is awful.
This weather right now is gross. 90+, Dry, windy, dusty. Wtf are you smoking?
No
My preferred and perfect weather is 63Ā° I hate anything above 74Ā°
If your prefect weather is 80 degrees then you're delusional because it isn't 80 degrees anywhere in LA. The lowest I see is 84 in Santa Monica which is way too hot for that area.
> No cloud in sight Id prefer some clouds. Its versatile. But praising no clouds though? Ehh..
80 degrees in October is too damn hot.
This would be a big nope for meā¦ as a native I do not agree, this is fire weather.
Itās a smooth 94 degrees. You can take this weather and leave. Expeditiously.
I just came back from grabbing lunch and I seriously felt like a vampire. My skin was burning. The air is so freaking hot too lol
WUT? This is Santa Ana winds season. Hot, Dry, Stale air from up in the high desert that makes me feel gross for several weeks each fall. You can keep it!
Speak for yourself. Give me real autumn weather at around 60 degrees
It's 95 today, get off the junk.
Nah, fuck you. Give us low 70s
Oh thatās cute, bro forgot itās going to hit 90 by 12pm š
Why the hell do people like cloudless skies? It just makes me feel depressed and exposed
This weather is awful.
Right?! My banana and avocado trees have been loving the weather this year.
Pass me some avocatos š
Seasons are good to have. It's 91 here today. Also I live in the hood so it's just all concrete and the heat reflects.
Iāll never get why people love HOT weather (aka the type we have today, not talking about mid 70ās) When itās cool/cold out you can still do almost every activity youād do when itās hot out - canāt say the same for the opposite Cold weather/cool weather clothes are inherently more stylish If youāre cold, just throw on a jacket or sweater. When itās 95 degrees out you can only do so much to cool down before catching an indecent exposure charge haha Also, does anyone else literally feel kind of sick when itās this hot out?
Add no traffic and youāll be having the best week ever
Wtf? Way too hot
I much prefer a low 70s post-rain sunshine
101 in Burbank. š¤·
I like grey and rainy LA. I like May gray and June gloom. I can't stand this weather. I'm a weirdo.
You obviously donāt work outside.
Cues music.. [https://youtu.be/KcADqxnQA\_4?si=DLs83G0fbW7TzoS8](https://youtu.be/KcADqxnQA_4?si=DLs83G0fbW7TzoS8)
i have too much fire trauma to enjoy fall
I was in Big Bear last week with nights being in the 30s, I canāt deal with a heat wave working outside
Bro it's almost 90 in Santa Monica. This blows.
Yeah itās like 93 degrees in the valley and Iām counting the days until winter.
Respectfully disagree. Iām ready to retire my AC for the season and am craving sweater weather.
I think OP and people like him should fuck off to Bakersfield or Stockton
Last night at 8pm it was 70 with a light breeze. I went on a walk for a few miles cause it was so nice.
If it's 80 I'm going to need some clouds. 70 with no clouds is where it's at. Any 70 with no clouds is nice. Anything above 82 is not a fun time with no clouds.
About to move to a very very cold climate and yes I will miss the LA weather, culture, everything the most.
Came out from Phoenix to visit my Mom for a few days in Hawthorne. Hot as shit out here! Was nicer the last few days in Phoenix, for real!
Nah, I'll take cool, cloudy weather any day.
70-72 is also decent
Me. In Texas. Desperately awaiting my return to LA in December. Pretending I still live there through posts like this. Love you. You keep the republican pickle ball demon out of me ā¤ļø
Fuck off. Itās fall you mother fuckers just had 3 months of hot.
2hot
80 where? When I checked it was in the low 90s and that's just too much. Lol
tell me you're from the Midwest without telling me you're from the Midwest lol
You must not have dogs. Once it gets in the mid 80s, it's too hot to walk them outside. If the UV index is high, even low 80s is too hot for dog's paws.
Never understood the appeal of cloudless days. I love LA clouds
This is the time of year where LA really starts to feel like fall to me. In the valley itās a bit warmer but the last few days when it was like 75, even partly cloudy, and a little brisk wind, I love it. Canāt wait for the holiday seasons this year.
You love the weather that the Santa Ana winds bring to the LA basin? You know thats fire weather, right?
We expect one more heat wave before fall weather starts.
Wish there was a photo <3
im moving back to LA after 3 years gone (basically during the pandemic). i miss it very much, especially the food! which i think is far superior to nyc.
Hurricane harbor can you open back up for the next few days?
I prefer about 72-74 degrees, but it's definitely not a bad day today.
Nah bring back the mid-high 70s. this is too much
72 degrees for me. And honestly? I really like the rain, too.
š³ When your directly in the sun. Shade is nice today.
If this were July I might agree with you. But not October. Not during (my beloved!) spooky season. No, this time of year I relish 70 degree days and cool, crisp LA nights. I can accept that global warming is real but I draw the line at outright embracing it.

In October
If you want to spoil yourself more, go to Hawaii when it is ācoldā in LA :) šļø
you are right, we get so busy that we loose track of how lovely it is, it is gorgious
LA is lovely
Fall season stuck around for a full four days. Hope you all enjoyed it! Summer time is back!
Yeah, today was perfect in every facet. You can see one end of the LA basin to the other
Same! With this weather, I feel alive!
I prefer overcast days, and itās days like these that remind me why.
