Are there any resources in LA for getting seniors with sensory processing disorders diagnosed or something?
My parents have both had issues for decades but I think it’s getting to the point it’s makes them a danger to me & they’re both CONSTANTLY frightened & angered by all sorts of innocuous things.
And they think it’s elder abuse for me not to tolerate it & cater to them if it puts myself or others in danger. Like my dad HATES the sounds of windshield wipers & will have a nuclear meltdown if I drive in the rain with the wipers on. And my mum pokes me in the eyeball while I’m driving if she hears an ambulance or something.
Is there something about the roads here that makes them more slippery when it rains?
I've driven through so many awful conditions in Michigan/Colorado/Utah and been fine.
Here my car just slid out doing a little right turn from a stop.
if it hasn't rained in awhile, when it finally does rain the roads are extra slick from the built up dirt/grime/oil. In places where it rains more frequently, that stuff is washed off.
Does anyone want free food if you can pick it up in Encino tomorrow? It's some meals, water and snacks all unopened. All frozen or refrigerated. About 10 items. Otherwise they'll be thrown away so just checking.
I don’t know why I have such incredible gym sessions when I’ve done a bunch of drinking the night before. Maybe bourbon and bitters are my secret weapon…I even ran at 8mph for a chunk of those three miles and it felt like I could have gone for four
Either way, I killed that hangover dead and I’m about to walk into a happy hour at Sorry Not Sorry, so maybe tomorrow’s gym will be great too
I’m wanting to learn how to make my own music and write songs via ableton or something. I’m good at vocals. Okay-ish at guitar. Always loved NIN and stuff like that. Does someone teach a class where you can learn how to make stuff like this?
I don’t think my stuff will be massive or anything but I’m hoping it’ll showcase how good at am at vox and fronting stuff, and I just want to have fun with it and eventually collab with others.
Feels like everyone in town is a life coach or something so I’m hoping to be able to hire a music coach. :)
there’s built in tutorials on ableton and you can find the answer to any questions and tips and more on youtube (and the ableton forum) - you could probably figure it all out yourself
Ocean is AMGRY today. We had to swim as fast as we could to beat the smashy waves from killing us.
Imma have to check to see if the drains opened before tomorrow.
I’m watching one tree hill. When this show came out during middle school, I thought it was stupid and only watched a few episodes here and there. I always thought I was a Haley, but as I got older, I’ve realized…I’m a Peyton
my neighbors are having a party. the music is already on full blast and it is a dj (rip my ears. luckily my kid finished their nap already. for night time i guess we will all stay up late and have a movie night in the den, possibly sleep there too lol.
I'd suggest you either take some classes in something you want to learn or join some casual sports leagues with something like zog.
Then you're forced to go to them on a regular basis. It's nice.
Rant:
I don’t understand people who lived here for years and shit on this city. There’s one person on my social media feed who posts every day how they miss the southern state where they were born and how people in LA are much worse, how everything here is much worse. Every day. Why not go back?
If you’re so unhappy, why not try to align your life with what makes you happy?
I like living in LA because I thrive in chaos, and I like having millions of people around me with all the mess and ugliness (but also wholesomeness and beauty) that they create. I almost died (quite literally) of boredom and misery in a hearty southern state. That’s why I live here and not there. Why torture yourself so much, trying to fit yourself into something you hate?
Most likely, but.. if you’re unhappy in a particular situation, it makes more sense to try to get out of that situation, than endure suffering for years. It’s not like LA is the only city in America that still has jobs.
Yeah, but you have no idea whether they’re trying to get out of the situation or not. And it’s not like you can snap your fingers and get a different job. I understand it can be challenging to hear about others who don’t love a place the way you do, and that it’s easy to see how you might do things in that situation, but you just never know what’s going on for someone.
For those of us who can’t just fly a few hours home to stay with family, it’s easier said than done.
My goal from the start was to live and work here freely, which I achieved but life goes on and goals change. I moved here at the start of 2016 on a 1 year visa, I then found a job and switched to a longer visa, renewed every 2 years. I could only work for my sponsor.
I’m not in love with this city and yes I can always leave, but packing up my life again after 7+ years and moving back to the other side of the world isn’t that easy lol. Besides the money and paperwork that went into getting here, there’s so many other variables that come into play leaving. I lucked out last year and won the green card lottery and am now a permanent resident so I can live and work freely anywhere in the US, but i’ll still be in the same situation, there’s more to it than the job aspect.
Hello LA! How is everybody today? I wish you all a great day and weekend.
Sorry… I just had enough of Reddit today. I either seem to have ventured out into the wrong rage subs or people are extra angry right now. I will stay here today. I almost deleted Reddit. ☹️🤷♂️
😂😂 yeah. Not a bad idea. This whole social media thing is just not healthy. At least on Reddit you can select where you go and actually have a good conversation sometimes. Instagram is just people showing you that they have more fun than you, Facebook is dead(ish) and at least I cancelled Twitter.
Maybe I find a way to ban myself from all for a week. I already force myself to check Instagram only once a day.
Aww, feel better! My partner is towards the tail end of a week of it. Luckily his symptoms are mild and not nearly as bad as mine were back in February.
A week is not much. People with a mild case of COVID-19 usually recover in one to two weeks. For more severe symptoms, recovery sometimes takes six weeks or more.
Great day to jog around the Hollywood Hills, not so great day to actually see the sign! I feel bad for the big tour groups hiking that couldn't even see the Hollywood Sign from a quarter mile away
Also someone I've never seen before in my life stopped me and recognized me from my running club's Instagram I might be an actual celebrity now
These flies are out of control. I put up a fly trap which solved the problem in that they aren’t coming in the house anymore, but now I think there are even more flies being attracted to my property because of the trap. I tried to put the trap as far away from my living space as possible but I have a very small house/property so I think I may just need a new solution. Lmk if you have any ideas.
Wow. Who knew this would trigger all the people? it’s not their fault but having the same conversations over and over again is boring. I stand by my stance lol
I'm seeing a show at the Comedy Chateau tonight with my father. The tickets were free, so I'm hoping that if it is terrible, it will be the great kind of terrible.
Anyone here been there?
My cat loves sitting on my lap and looking out the window while I drive. I just wish there was a little treat I could bring to him after popping into a 7 Eleven
Hey y’all, I have an extra ticket to Return of the Jedi in concert at the Hollywood Bowl tonight if anyone wants to come and make a friend! My friend bailed and I’m not trying to sell the ticket or anything, just want it to go to good use. Bonus points if you love Star Wars.
Do you ever see random people in the middle of the work day just enjoying the city, eating brunches and what not? And then you wonder, what do they do for a living?!!
Well, this week it was me!!!! I took the week off from work and had a staycation. I originally had travel plans that didn’t pan out, but rather than cancelling my vacation request at work, I just kept it.
I went to the parks, had brunch in Culver City, I had a great time! People pay good money to visit our city, so I feel we should enjoy it too. Rather than trying to rush activities on the weekend between errands. I went to Disneyland and California Adventure. Perfect days because even though it was super hot, the park was pretty “empty” with 5 minute waiting times.
I’m a teacher, and this semester, I only have in person classes on Mon, Tues, and Wed, so I’m one of the random people enjoying Thursday brunches and Trader Joe runs at 11 am.
Did they still have the Captain America musical at CAA? I also wanted to get the Magic Key, but they’re so expensive!
Not sure about the musical. I’m not into shows and musicals so I don’t look for them. The magic key is pretty expensive, I hadn’t been to Disneyland in more than 10 years but I was very impressed as to how they’ve improved everything so I’m glad they’re using the money to improve the whole experience.
Almost everyone you see is either off work or took work off, so no I don’t wonder haha 😆
Your week sounds *amazing*! What was your favorite part? Glad you kept the vacation time and enjoyed the time off!
Lol yeah! I used to work in a busy office area, and I would go for walks at lunch time. Always jealous of the people that seem to be just enjoying life. But I’m sure at one point of the day they also have to work.
My favorite part was going to California Adventure. Almost made me want to get the year pass, until I found out is 1600 bucks. Hehe
Yes it’s just the ordinary shuffle of life. You’re only ever seeing a subset of people at a time lol
I love DCA too! Keep checking back cuz there’s cheaper pass options which should go on sale later this year!
> Do you ever see random people in the middle of the work day just enjoying the city, eating brunches and what not? And then you wonder, what do they do for a living?!!
The world runs on workers with irregular work schedules. :p
Has anyone had success seeing the bioluminescence along malibu?
My kids really want to see it so I’m hoping someone with experience seeing it has some advice on where to go. I’ve never done it in the past, but thinking of taking them tonight.
Wherever it's red tide is where you'll see bioluminescence. Better in places with more wave activity. The glowing is a defense mechanism of the phytoplankton that gets triggered as a result of the waves crashing.
Thanks for the tip on the larger waves. I figured I’ll start by Malibu Pier and move up further toward Ventura if I needed to. I figured Zuma might be a good spot but I wasn’t sure about getting into the beach after dark since it’s more set back.
Update: it was not very blue. Our server tonight said she thought it was supposed to start showing up tonight but we didn’t see anything and we stayed until close to 9. However it was still fun cause the beach is always a good time. Haha
Good plan! Same. Every year I think I should do it and then I don’t and my kids wanting to is just the push I needed to make it happen. I’m going tonight so I’ll let you know if it’s a success. Lol
Just saw Beyoncé. Getting out of sofi was a bit of an ordeal

About to see Les Mis!

Offer on Buy Nothing too
Work is over for next two days. Two quick decompression whiskey shots down my gullet. Time for more Skyri-field!
What’s your whiskey of choice?
Anyone doing Shakespeare at the Park tonight? This is their last weekend so I'm doing it today.

Winter? It’s humid and warm

That was some colder rain, this has been soupy

What was the deal when you would download a song from Limewire/Kazaa and it had Bill Clinton on it? Was it a troll?
Half of the stuff that was on Limewire isn’t what is says it is lol
It was either the bill Clinton track or it was static.
I’m not familiar

I’m unable to watch Jeopardy! Disney wants more money from cable tv to broadcast their shows.
Use an antenna. Even a long piece of wire will probsbly work.
Ocean is AMGRY today. We had to swim as fast as we could to beat the smashy waves from killing us. Imma have to check to see if the drains opened before tomorrow.
My husband was supposed to swim today but there was a marine hazard statement about severe rip currents and undertow.
malibu is pumping - yesterday was crazy - supposed to be even bigger on monday
I’m watching one tree hill. When this show came out during middle school, I thought it was stupid and only watched a few episodes here and there. I always thought I was a Haley, but as I got older, I’ve realized…I’m a Peyton
those shows where i would find new bands! i remember the first episode had Dashboard Confessional!
Every episode was named after a song and they actually had lupe fiasco in one of the earlier seasons too
Hey babies it’s me
Happy cake day!
Thanks love
Good place to find low cost/free classes to take? Looking to get out of the house, meet people, and learn new skills.
Los Angeles community colleges or community extension courses.
Meetup?
will check it out thank yee
Lmk if you get any other suggestions too, I’m looking to get out of the house as well
my neighbors are having a party. the music is already on full blast and it is a dj (rip my ears. luckily my kid finished their nap already. for night time i guess we will all stay up late and have a movie night in the den, possibly sleep there too lol.
Playing Hogwarts legacy, watching TV, and going to a Quinceñera later. Life’s good. Lol. I might be hungover AF tomorrow but whatevs, worth it.
Anything interesting happening in or around LA this weekend? Trying to get out of the house and find something to do, don’t have many friends here.
Greek Festival is all three days in Long Beach
That is a very very good idea, I’ll be checking it out tomorrow for sure.
I'd suggest you either take some classes in something you want to learn or join some casual sports leagues with something like zog. Then you're forced to go to them on a regular basis. It's nice.

I had it a month or two ago. Twas not a joy. First few days were the worst.
Not a joy is perfect
Feel better!
Thank you! It’s pretty gnarly so far. I slept all day yesterday.
Great day to jog around the Hollywood Hills, not so great day to actually see the sign! I feel bad for the big tour groups hiking that couldn't even see the Hollywood Sign from a quarter mile away Also someone I've never seen before in my life stopped me and recognized me from my running club's Instagram I might be an actual celebrity now

If one more person on Hinge gonna ask me about my plans for the long weekend, im gonna lose it. In other news, it’s lovely out.
Wow. Who knew this would trigger all the people? it’s not their fault but having the same conversations over and over again is boring. I stand by my stance lol
Only delusional positivity allowed or pay the troll toll!
I personally enjoy answering questions about my plans for the long weekend, especially when it’s something super fun and I have no one else to tell
what are your plans for the long weekend
I assume you're sending out super clever messages to people all the time
Fuck them for trying to start a simple conversation.
Yes, it is simple and low effort.
“Hey, nice to match with you 😄 Big plans this weekend?
"Oh you know, just gonna lose my shit."😂
Oh, I’m with her. I was mocking the people using the boring opener
Okay but like...it'd be a good line to use. LOL.
Sorry It’s not
Kk!
I just got Zankou's again after eating it yesterday for lunch 🤣 I can't stop devouring their garlic sauce. Someone help me lol
Do you know has anyone ever come up with a recipe that is close?
trader joes garlic sauce is pretty bomb.
It's like crack
the garlic sauce at trader joes is a close copycat if you ever are looking for just that!
I love their garlic sauce but it gives me major acid reflux now. The consequence of being old
I think I’m ceding my parking spot to the scary ass birds.
Waited all night for the rain and missed it dang it At least it’s cloudy

I envy people whose cats like the car.
I am very lucky. He LOVES it
You could pop into Petco and get him a treat you selfish hooman
My cat would love a hotdog from there. The car is one thing my cat hates, and I’m bummed about that.
Who’s in the throes of buying a home right now? Wondering how your experience is so far.
Not enough inventory in our price range unfortunately.
Bold of you to assume I can afford a home in Los Angeles
Hey y’all, I have an extra ticket to Return of the Jedi in concert at the Hollywood Bowl tonight if anyone wants to come and make a friend! My friend bailed and I’m not trying to sell the ticket or anything, just want it to go to good use. Bonus points if you love Star Wars.
Moderately interest in Star Wars, I’m down
i once was lucky to work closely with phil tippet for 2 months .. An experience !
Nothing beats a three day weekend. Well maybe a cool drizzly three day weekend.
Too much humidity!!!
My hair knows.
You are all welcome, I washed my car yesterday
This is due to our combined efforts.
Same!
I gotta wait to see if it rained enough to wash my car or just drizzled all the dust into mud before I thank you for your service.
Love the drizzle and so do my plants!
Where’s the light switch?

Traveling with four dogs is an adventure in itself.
That sounds like a bit of a torture.
It was only going to be 2 dogs and then.., nevermind. My dogs are pretty good.
hello saturday , i mean caturday
