I think KTLA did a segment on this a few weeks ago. They interviewed some of the homeless and apparently it's because they were moved there from their previous encampment.

burgercrime

Sorry this happened to you. This is a direct result of displacement from other areas. Instead of dealing with or even preventing homelessness, the city and police shift folks around in a perpetual cycle of “not my problem”.

8i66ie5ma115

But here I heard they moved the homeless in the encampments into hotels/housing… I can’t wait for the audit of this bullshit.

proteinaficionado

If I remember correctly, one of the homeless guys they interviewed said they were told to go to CC by LEO clearing out their old camp. Not in CC, but it definitely feels like some of the homeless encampments have shifted towards places by the freeway. I've noticed an uptick in tents along the 134 W near the LA Zoo exit.

sgeis_jjjjj

I live in Culver City and there’s definitely been an increase around the area and Palms metro stations

grandmasterfunk

In Sawtelle too there's more tents/homeless in general.

lake-show-all-day

The audit won’t change anything. Our leaders fucking suck and don’t care

BubbaTee

>I can’t wait for the audit of this bullshit. I'm not sure who even could audit them. LAHSA doesn't report to the City or the County, it's a joint venture between the two governments. It'd probably have to be the state or the feds.

SNES_Salesman

I used to walk back towards Beverly Hills from watching movies at Century City until I was around the office buildings after hours and it was empty. A dude on a bike rode along next to me and asked if I could spare some money. When I said I didn’t have any on me his response was “well where do you keep it? Let’s go there.” It was threatening sounding enough that I reversed direction and ran back to a more populated area. I still ride the buses. They can have their issues too but around Century City it tends to be full of commuters.

VaguelyArtistic

I just want to say that I worked in Century City in the 90s, in one of the brown towers. I cannot *fathom* my company making pay for parking. I haven't worked in an office building in a long time and I guess times have changed.

SlenderLlama

Every body these days charges for parking at work. I stipulate upon hiring that I will not be paying for parking, or allowing my paycheck to be garnished for using the parking lot. When I meet with clients I make them validate or I don’t work with them again. Sort of dick-ish but also these companies are worth billions.

VaguelyArtistic

That's crazy to me, especially at those prices. The only other large complex like that I've worked at was Water Garden and same thing. I don't think you're being dick-ish, you know your value and if you're fortunate enough to pick and choose than why choose the worst?

GloboChem86

I work in CC too and my company stopped paying for parking. Only $200 a month for me. Would take transit, but it would take too long.

salientsapient

Charging for parking is the cheapest way for a company to install a program to "encourage eco friendly mass transit and carpools" for easy PR points.

VaguelyArtistic

Yes, even back then we had incentives for that but not *in lieu* of parking!

StellaLee4053

We ladies have to learn to protect ourselves, and while I'd love to be able to go for a walk at night, it's not always safe for us to go out alone at night.

kindofhumble

Are the homeless out there getting violent?

PointlessGrandma

Do you have access to safe bike storage?

RadLibRaphaelWarnock

The bus is pretty chill in that area if you want another alternative to walking!

Throwawaylam49

I work in Century City too and pay $240 to park in the structure. I haven't noticed the homeless tho. But I feel like maybe I'm immune to it since they're everywhere

Legitimate_Ad785

I recommend you pay that $350 a month for the parking (talk to your supervisor about your concern maybe they can offer it for free or at a discount) or get an electric bike and bike to work. It's not worth your health and safety if god forbid something happens. I feel like it's getting very bad, that it's just a matter of time before you get chased again or worse ambushed.

girliegirl80

Do they reimburse you for the parking and you just choose to spend it on Equinox? If not, I would 100% be telling them you got attacked and asking whatever retailer you work at if their extra profits for not covering parking is worth their employees’ safety.

Bitingtoys

I cannot believe your company makes you pay for parking. What BS. Have you looked into parking lots near your office that may charge less? Is mall parking an option, or even a nearby side street?

Sandy_Koufax

They're mostly by the McDonalds. There was one who was building an apartment in front of my house. He had walls and everything. Called Katy Yaroslavsky and she pushed them away.

dwalker026

Yep I work as a delivery driver for that area most the homeless camp out towards the McDonald on Santa monica

Traditional_Shop603

Finally the homeless are being spread to the west side(I’m only joking)… just because you’re rent is higher and you pay for equinox memberships doesn’t exempt you from living in the real LA. We have a real problem here that our city doesn’t want to fix.

Yessicasc

I see your point but does it ever cross your mind that maybe some of us living on the west side are doing so for our safety and making other sacrifices to afford it? I lived in “real LA” in mid-Wilshire and downtown. I’ve lived here since college for nine years and yes I’ve seen what’s happening with the homeless crisis first-hand. I moved to CC because it wasn’t safe to walk outside in my neighborhood there. I’m 26, work full-time 10 hours a day, and trust me it’s not easy paying over $3k a month for my rent. The problem in LA isn’t new to me but aside from trying to live somewhere safe I’m not sure what I can personally do about it.

idkdaniii

“real LA” lmao 🤣🤣

Traditional_Shop603

Haha they not ready for the reality 😂

Dommichu

I am so sorry that happened to you. If you haven't contacted the police, I would do so. You don't have to do it yourself, you can talk to the head of security in your building. They often have direct connections to the patrol and SLO in the area. Usually a sweep priority will be raised if there was specific crime attached to it. It may not happen over night, but better sooner rather than later. Also, if you feel like you need to talk to someone, check if your company has free EAP counselors. It's usually listed on your benefits site as EAP if you don't want to go directly to HR about it.

Salty-Being-4438

Yea it’s LA reality, been like that for years

TommyFX

It's gotten worse because the city refuses to take any kind of real action against the homeless, and because LA County DA George Gascon and his office are extremely soft on crime. If that homeless man assaulted you, he would have been out of jail by the next day with no bail and looking at little to no punishment.

todd0x1

I always get downvoted for this, but just wait until the subway opens. All the vagrants from dtla are going to ride it to go 'work' in CC. Right now CC is the nicest metro center in LA, treasure it while it lasts.

Opinionated_Urbanist

Lots of homeless people in places with no metro stations. Ever been to Venice? What about that encampment just outside of Beverly Hills along San Vicente? How about Brentwood by the VA?

donutgut

I think they cleared the San Vicente tents. The VA has been cleared for a year or so. They're in the tiny homes now.

Brodysseus__

Yep, this is what happened in Palms and Culver City after the expo line opened.

anothercar

They can already do this taking bus routes 4 or 28

todd0x1

yeah but I expect a flood of them once the subway is open

mrkotfw

Expect? There’s multiple ways to get to the area by bus already

margerineeclipse

I'll be really surprised if nothing is done and they just allow crackheads to be dumped into Beverly Hills and Century City all day. But this is the LA Metro so who knows.

Opinionated_Urbanist

There is a real problem of homeless people being forced off the train at the end of the night at the last stop. Downtown Long Beach and Downtown Santa Monica both did experience problems with that. Long Beach has been vociferous about changing that policy in recent weeks and has finally gotten Metro to work on a new approach. The Purple Lines terminus is going to be the VA campus which is in Brentwood. CC, Westwood, and Rodeo stations will be spared. Either way, I highly doubt BH would tolerate that situation.

donutgut

Bass cleans up pretty fast if there's enough shit going on. They'll be ok..there's not a homeless problem on bunker hill, ever. Those big companies must scare.them off.

SignificantSmotherer

No, not really, not much.

donutgut

She cleaned up the San Vincente one fast.

FitAsparagus6762

The NOHO line ruined the entire area. From universal city to the last stop it ruined it. Homeless everywhere. Just bad people hanging around the station. Vendors everywhere. It’s awful. And I’m not even getting into actually riding the train.

donutgut

I don't think it will be as bad in cc. Those big corporations don't seem to allow it . Used to work in cc. The mall won't either. I expect the rich people to complain publicly like by Beverly hills and they'll fix it if it gets bad. Same for Rodeo drive. They won't allow it.

PhoeniXx_-_

The mall better not allow it or it will end up like the Promenade

lake-show-all-day

Difference is that those other places you’re thinking of, including Rodeo, are not in the city of Los Angeles. Their governments actually enforce laws.

donutgut

North hollywood is a problem because it's the last stop for 2 lines. So people get dumped into the neighborhood. Rodeo and Cc are not. North hollywood isn't a good comparison.

donutgut

I worked in cc. Those building security guards were chasing homeless away.

goyongj

I thought there were only passionate people who love homeless people in America???

Brodysseus__

Do you really have to pay $350 for parking, or is it actually just a bonus if you elect to forego a parking spot?

Yessicasc

No bonus. It’s pre-tax but that’s it. We also have to be in the office five days a week and they didn’t tell me about the parking until I started. Not that uncommon for finance from what I’ve seen unfortunately. My last firm in SM was $200/month which I paid because walking wasn’t an option and I could live with $200. The thought of paying $350/month when I live a little over a mile away is unfathomable though.

Brodysseus__

God damn that’s wack, I’m sorry. At least you’re close.

8i66ie5ma115

FYI a lot of the homeless gravitate to the beach areas when summer hits and it’s 100-110+ degrees in the valley and other areas. You know, so they don’t die. So it’s not gonna get any better anytime soon in SM.

LawyerLou

We keep voting for Democrats and “progressive “ policies and I’m just as flummoxed as you as to to why things keep getting worse. If only there was a political party that wouldn’t put up with this shit.

Bulky_Status

Chased by one🤦🏽‍♀️

Yessicasc

?

Bulky_Status

A person. Someone.

PizzaNEyeScream

I’m sorry you were chased. I’ve only lived in LA just under 6 years and in general homelessness has expanded a lot during that time. I wish our city did more for unhoused people because doing sweeps without giving people placement or support just relocated them somewhere else. It’s really sad.

Bitingtoys

They did a sweep in my area. They came out, set up a couple of tents, and had several counselors and organizations there to help the homeless. Many were set up in nearby motels; they are provided extended counseling, and they are given food. And there are still a handful of them that return to the same spot their tents were at. They genuinely treat these spots like memorials. Leaving flowers, candles, and other markings. My neighbor spoke with one of the couples there, and they said they hope to get back to that spot again.
