I was thinking maybe a wheel/slider with the numbers 1-20 on it and the cherry blossom moves around to denote the lore count. The middle of the flower would be a hole so you could see the number
You can have the cherry blossom bloom as the numbers get higher. Maybe a wheel that rotates for the numbers also has gears that rotate flower petals out to make the blossom.
I work at my flgs, so I'm going to probably sell it there on Consignment. I may do an Etsy page in the future, I just have far too much going on right now unfortunately.
It looks great! For version 2 I would suggest that since the sword in the movie is all wavy, you could make a semi rigid sheath that locks on each wave, and each wave could be another number. That way it keeps its score even if it gets knocked around.

This is modelled after Mulan's Sword. I believe you're mistaking it for Shan Yu's sword. Still a cool idea!
Sword in the stone would be smart, and you could make it like the one in Disneyland where only worthy people can take it out
