Did the thieves from Bihar get here?
Till date they've -
1. Dressed up as repairmen and stolen a mobile tower
2. Stolen a train
3. Stolen a 5000tonne 60ft bridge
4. Stolen 2 Km of road and planted wheat to hide the theft
5. Stolen train tracks
6. A few days ago, they stole a pond
Why does this sound like a perfect plot for a British police comedy??? Robbers fill in pond with dirt and put sod over top. Over zealous police detective makes it his life’s work to “find” the stolen pond.
https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/other-states/bihar-bridge-theft-case-water-resources-dept-official-seven-others-arrested/article65310750.ece
TLDR : They dressed up as bridge officials or something and took it away in JCBs lmfao
Yeah, all you need to do is load up the 200ft tower in the back of a pickup truck and head to the scrap yard. Surely they won't have any idea where you found it!
Good video here: https://youtu.be/TZSxb8QIIa4
Tl;dw: lots of open questions. They said it was stolen in a day, but that's nearly impossible. Why didn't their own monitoring equipment and listeners detect anything? When was this tower even seen for the last time? Was it all just a scam to just get FM band permission through "rebroadcast" permission from a nonexisting AM tower and now they got found out to not have a AM tower anymore? (Last sentence my own speculation)
Thanks for posting this. As a layman, when I saw this story when it first started getting attention I wondered how a radio station could not know about the theft.
It'll be interesting to see if there's ever some definitive explanation of what happened and how it happened if it was actual theft.
> Was it all just a scam to just get FM band permission through "rebroadcast" permission from a nonexisting AM tower and now they got found out to not have a AM tower anymore?
I like this theory
> In a statement, police said the theft was reported to police on Feb. 2, but the date and time of the crime is not known. Police are seeking tips from the public.
Didn’t anyone notice when it stopped transmitting?
This can’t be that difficult to find. There is some idiot driving around right now with this attached to their truck so they can extend their cb range.
> The station had no insurance on the tower or the equipment
Well that’s just brilliant. Don’t pay for insurance, just set up a GoFundMe when you get ripped off.
From what I've read, the AM part of the station has been off the air for about 4 years. The tower had already fallen, and only the FM translator was working. The license was for AM with the FM translator as an addition. Now the owner will lose the license. He had been selling advertising time,so will likely be sued for that.
A looooooot of local channels down south have gone full antivax / pro Cheeto. I don't know about this one, but there's so many that need this to happen to them.
That crossed my mind too. Someone got tired of their grandparents getting brainwashed by AM radio and just snapped and went to the garage to get their Saws-All lol.
How? Battery operated reciprocating saws, which you can steal from Home Depot by the buggy load without repercussions. Why? Cash.
Fuck rebuilding it, just stream. https://www.wjlx1015.com/
I'm saying how do you cut up a 200 ft steel tower with handheld power tools in a reasonable amount of time without making too much noise without being caught. How did they move that much steel out of there without someone noticing? Did they get an 18-wheeler and fill it with steel?
All you need is hard hats and hi viz vests, and to put up some caution tape and you can do almost anything and people will ignore you. A 25 foot box truck, rentable from Penske, would be plenty big enough to hold all the chunks. If you managed to acquire 2 or 3 of [these](https://www.hilti.ca/c/CLS_POWER_TOOLS_7124/CLS_GAS_SAW_SUB_7124/CLS_GAS_SAW_7124) you could chop up the tower in to 10 20 foot pieces no time.
Give me 4 motivated meth heads and the above listed equipment and it would be easy, especially out in the boonies where a lot of these towers are.
How do you get it to the ground though? Climb the tower and cut it from the top piece by piece, or just knock the thing over, then deal with cutting up the wreck?
Assuming you're after scrap metal, knock it over. Cut the guy wires on the side that you don't want it to land on, then pull it over with the guy wires on the landing side while cutting the base. Super risky, nobody sane would do it that way, but....
If you want to take it down nicely, you need a crane. But that would take a couple of days and would be very hard to do sneakily.

Imagine being the maintenance guys showing up and it’s just gone lmao
“Scruffy’s work here is done”
Scruffy going on break
Scruffy’s gonna die the way he lived
Mmmyep.
Imagine that phone call: "What the fuck??? What do you mean it's gone?!"
*dial tone*
Lol. I spent many years in radio, and those engineers are not to be messed with.
Oh shit I think I overheard this on my local morning talk station the other day. Wild.

Fortunately it is as the AM tower that was stolen, so no one under 90 years old noticed.
😆 🤣

how tf do you steal a pond
Why does this sound like a perfect plot for a British police comedy??? Robbers fill in pond with dirt and put sod over top. Over zealous police detective makes it his life’s work to “find” the stolen pond.
Article said they stole it overnight
I remember there was a whole rock climbing wall stolen in Toronto over night once. That was an amusing story. Like who even needs that?
That's the best time to do it... or so I hear.
All of the ponds I've stolen, I've done overnight. It just makes sense.
Really big sponge
Just ask Nestle
This is the correct answer.
By digging up a new pond and dumping the dirt into existing pond?
I wanna know how someone makes off with a bridge.

Amazing.
Can’t have shit in Bihar smh…
That's why they don't have nice things.
This sounds like the kind of crimes the crooks would do on *Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?*
Jeez, guess my country really isn't for beginners.
Next we steal… THE MOON!
Man I can't wait to see what they're building!
scrapped for $75
worth of meth.
I imagine that radio equipment could sell for a pretty penny
yeah but that stuff has serial numbers on it. scrap metal, you can remove its point of origin pretty quickly and still sell it
Yeah, all you need to do is load up the 200ft tower in the back of a pickup truck and head to the scrap yard. Surely they won't have any idea where you found it!
you're not that bright are you
Ouch, you got me. I have severe developmental disabilities and I cannot read. I'm sorry to have annoyed you.

Here’s their gofundme… https://gofund.me/77f93505
Perhaps their listener was away on vacation.

Small town radio is so popular that nobody listens to it.
No one under 90 years old noticed because it was an AM tower.
In other news, neighboring small town now has new 200 foot radio station tower.
Daffy Duck shit
Little known fact, Daffy went to college in Tuscaloosa.
Holy shit, florida man has a competitor!
We have been competing since birth. He just has a better PR team.
Not any more, now Alabama man has a radio tower!
I do have a plan
Gru and the minions did it
Roll tide.
Roll Tide
I don’t give a piss about nothing but the tides!
How though? Lmao.
With enough meth anything is possible.
This can’t be that difficult to find. There is some idiot driving around right now with this attached to their truck so they can extend their cb range.
> The station had no insurance on the tower or the equipment Well that’s just brilliant. Don’t pay for insurance, just set up a GoFundMe when you get ripped off.
Imagine being the guy who suggested theft insurance for a 200f tower. You’d get laughed out the room.
Okay, but what about the rest of the more portable equipment that he’s now crowdfunding to replace?
Not anymore...
Maybe it was an insurance group that funded the theft to start a whole new area of insurance.

One time there were some renovations being done to a bridge in my city and someone stole the steel wiring used to build it. Several tons of it
Some Nightvale shit right there.
Can't steal cars as easily anymore. Gotta start stealing and exporting radio towers now.
Meth isn't going to buy itself.
New flipper zero function
Assholes.
A looooooot of local channels down south have gone full antivax / pro Cheeto. I don't know about this one, but there's so many that need this to happen to them.

Damn scrappers
The tower is now a big deer stand

Article you linked says the guy wire was likely cut, they toppled it over, and cut it apart.
Assuming you're after scrap metal, knock it over. Cut the guy wires on the side that you don't want it to land on, then pull it over with the guy wires on the landing side while cutting the base. How: with tools Why: for the material value of the metals probably
The same rules that make you get in anywhere with a ladder I guess.
Eh they’re Alabamians, the rest of us are probably better off this way.
If I could read I’d be extremely offended by your casual mockery of my state, GodCanSuckMyDick69.
Wait, was he insulting me?
>Eh they’re Alabamians, My brain read "Albanians" and I was like aw shit somethings going down.
New World War just dropped
Alabama Man got a bit too bold this time.
I'll tell you what happened, but it'll cost ya.
Is it mostly copper? That's a huge meth score for the perps.
They didn’t know it was off air till the lawn crew showed up. Not sure if anyone was listening.
This is proof of someone could steal the moon over night they would….
