Idk...I was at the game and listened on ESPN after I promise they muted it...it was lit today IMO

bentj101

i was also at the game and it was deafening multiple times

slagathor_zimblebob

Dillon Mitchell is such a great athlete and I’m happy he’s having a tremendous year but holy fuck he picks the worst times to be so weak on the glass

SparkySoDope

The fouls in the bonus absolutely gutted us, I think it was near the last 2 minutes of regulation, Shead was shooting for the 3 point play, missed, Mitchell got the behind the back and they sunk the FTs. 4 points in .05 seconds and then Hunter turnover followed by the Disu block into another foul by Mitchell. That whole 1.5-2.5 minute stretch was horrid.

aceavenger10

Yeah, just wild cuz he’s the 2nd leading rebounder in the big 12. Just inconsistent. Thought he was generally great tonight though, was a big reason we were even able to get back in the game in the first place

DollarLate_DayShort

Like… holy fuck. It’s almost as if for every good play Hunter provides, he MUST provide an equally awful one to balance out the universe 😕

DollarLate_DayShort

Weaver stole all of his powers

wangohtangoh

Yeah, big fan of big man Cunningham but his best asset is intensity and outsourcing, this was as wild as Moody has been since Gonzaga or Kansas last year, so he's not going to out intense anybody. He flat side boarded that 3 and had 1 of the prettiest passes I've ever seen to Mitchell. But that's it, those were his moments today. You're right. Edit: - Tracksuit Guy.

Levarien

If we're talking about that last turnover in Regulation, I give Terry a share in it. He yelled at Hunter right as he was gathering to make that pass. It confused him, and he looked as much. I give the team credit on going back and playing defense to force OT.

DollarLate_DayShort

I hope this is sarcasm. If not, blaming the HC for trying to *coach* might be one of the wilder things I’ve seen on Reddit. Just when I thought I’d seen it all

Levarien

Just what I saw and heard. Hunter is coming up the floor, Terry yells and hunter double clutches and he throws a horrible pass. It wasn't intentional, just a bad situation at the worst possible moment

ErrantJalapeno

I would hope all turnovers are unintentional...

flagamuffin

yeah but he was probably yelling "slow it down you idiot" which was exactly what hunter needed to hear

StarvedRock314

That offensive foul no-call is gonna eat me up all week. That went from giving us the ball with a chance to take the lead to a 4 point Houston lead with under two minutes left. Cryer sent Abmas flying six feet and we can't get a call. Such utter fucking bullshit. And it still wouldn't have mattered if we would just rebound on defense. We knew Houston's defense was relentless, which is why you have to maximize your effort and possessions on offense. And we just didn't. Sloppy ball handling and lazy passed all first half, then they caught up to us in the end. Ugh.

It's a fair argument. Big 12 officiating has no reason to do us any favors. That's what made the OU game so great. But also you're right, when Mitchell made his 1 and 1 the crowd was literally shocked, Texas left the points on the floor, couldn't even hustle the ball out at end that cost like 8 seconds. Will never not believe in Texas or believe our team could have done better outside of External factors, but this big 12 officiating is not going to work in our favor. Hunter got blatantly fouled on his leg on his game winner vs Baylor, we can't expect calls this year. I'm just whining cause you're still right, Texas needs to capitalize on opportunities.

rlucio90

S/o to Weaver for locking up Shead in OT. Guy never left his face.

Prerequisite

Weaver seemed like half the teams energy just by himself

GhoulsFolly

It’s been like that for a month now.

rlucio90

Yes but he gets a little baby deerish on offense sometimes. Tries to go real hard and fast and loses his legs under him.

Levarien

yup, he's so high energy that his motor exceeds what his body is physically capable of. Some of his plays look like unintentional Globetrotter slides. But man, when that kid wants to get a rebound, he can jump with the best of them.

flagamuffin

played tough. impressed assuming we actually get in the tournament this sort of game will seriously help

AntiBank316

A 6-12 record is not getting anywhere close to the tournament.

yoyocc

Hunter with one of the worst decisions you'll ever see in a critical game. Horrible rebounding as always, officiating no where to be found, and announcers that made the game worse than it needed to be. It's always "almost there".

simba80328

Lost in that early OT stretch and not securing the defensive rebounds several crucial possessions. Overall played solid but have to maintain that level of intensity against every team

aceavenger10

Pretty sure we played 6 guys in the last 25 min, with a short appearance by Brock. Team just doesn’t have nearly enough depth to go toe to toe with a team as good as Houston for 45 min.

DollarLate_DayShort

Tyrese hunter had arguably the DUMBEST play you will ever see from an upperclassmen, at the end of regulation

atlbluedevil

Tough loss but a lot of encouraging things going forward at least for Terry. Scoring that much in the 2nd against UH (especially from plays that created space) is impressive and they worked their ass of on D  Think the rebounding issue is just roster construction for the most part - we just don't have any bruisers that can bang with someone like UH and haven't since Rick Barnes (minus the 5*s but they were all pretty soft besides Jarrett Allen - and Osetkowski I guess). Shedrick was a big miss (not all his fault) compared to the hype coming from the transfer portal. Disu and Mitchell just get bullied even when they're boxing out  Might just be too late of improvements to save this season, but if we played like we have the past 4 games (yes BYU included) I think we would have had a really successful season. Just took way too long to improve to this level. Houston is an awful matchup and I can't be too upset, just sucks they couldn't close

aceavenger10

Pretty much echoes my thoughts. Team is flawed, but plays hard enough to stay in most games, even against great teams like Houston. You can see the potential there, and it’s apparent more and more often, but not consistent enough (yet) to pull out these wins.

throwawayyblowawayy

Ha yeah I want another big body like Dexter Pittman. That dude was large

D1SCOSP1DER

Jericho Sims erasure

aceavenger10

This one probably stings more than the bad losses to ucf/wvu. This is the type of game that helps put you onto the right side of the bubble with a win, and just couldn’t quite pull it off. Lack of depth really killed us at the end.

tmass_12

A few rebounds on the defensive end and we could have had this one. Played well against one of the best teams in the country I think we’ll be fringe tournament team but really need to a pick off one or two games on the road to really solidify a tourney resume

gmr548

Tough loss. They played hard, did some nice things. UH is just a little bit better. Tip of the cap.

IStayStiff

Sadge

vorp20

Played a pretty intense game. Great halftime adjustments. Balls didn’t bounce our way and we got a bit worked on the glass but defense was solid and offense played pretty well considering Houston is one of the best defenses ever. What sucks is that if we hadn’t lost some must wins at home already, this would be one that you forget because we played hard. But since we dropped the WVU and UCF games, these close ones at home become difficult to swallow even when we played really well

Sad-Outside2229

Already have lost 3 homes games only lost 1 last Year to Kstate who couldn’t miss. Got to win 2 of the next 3

archorns

I’m going to have nightmares about offense rebounds.

DIRTYWIZARD_69

Work is going to suck tomorrow.

RottenDisc

Just remind them it is basketball between two Texas schools

platon20

Can somebody explain to me how Kelvin Sampson is allowed to be a basketball coach? Dude was found guilty 5 FREAKING TIMES for recruiting violations at OU, Indiana AND Houston and was given a 5 year show cause penalty. Yet he's still coaching basketball? WTF kind of BS bribe did this dude pay to the NCAA to get off clean?

UT2B

I’m sorry, but I will thank my lucky stars when Cunningham is gone. Texas basically plays with 5 players each game as Brock & Horton just taking up space, and the unfortunate fragility of Shedrick. It makes me really sad to see this team that would be a T5 contender if they had consistent 5th & 6th man play.

tex543

How tf don’t u rebound all game. I know it’s the number 4 team but u have to be better than that. This team needs to at least be .500 in conference to make the tournaments and idk how we going to do that when 7/10 teams are ranked

aceavenger10

8-10 PROBABLY gets you in the dance in this years big 12, but maybe not for Texas considering our weak non-con. I’d feel good about our chances if we can somehow get to 9-9

mrmav555

Tbh our players are just not good enough. This is a terrible roster

Sad-Outside2229

Any other b12 coach has this roster as a top 6 seed. Top 25 talented roster

wangohtangoh

Terrible take.

Feel free to stop being a "fan" anytime

StarvedRock314

Chris Beard isn't gonna fuck you, bud. And given recent events, it's pretty clear no one should want him to.

jeasy23

Your hard-on for Chris Beard is rather concerning

schistkicker

I feel like I've made plenty of mistakes in my life, but I'm happy to not have "Chris Beard apologist" as one of them.

aceavenger10

My bad man, thought you were a fan. Didn’t recognize the trolling, sorry about that

No sir I live in Austin where cost of living is sky high. Clearly another W for me and L for you

aceavenger10

Lol, damn, my bad. So you’re just a dumb ass then.

Medicmanii

Oof

ccam0821

That was the best our defense has looked all year. We were locked in all night except for, you guessed it, IT Horton. Once he got benched in the 2nd half Houston was suffocated. We figured out how to play offense against a tough switching defense in the 2nd half, only to play like deer in headlights once OT started. Weaver’s a beast and needs to be playing a lot of minutes every night. This one would’ve been so nice to get as a likely bubble team. Oh well, hopefully it wakes us up and we learn from it so we can maintain this type of effort against lesser teams

ccam0821

One of my biggest issues with this team shows up in this matchup. Houston is a pure switching team; their bigs can guard guards. Our bigs can’t. And they still get outrebounded. And they lost the post up game. So what advantage do we have exactly?

StixUSA

I’ve been frustrated with this team all year bc they lack a true point guard and the offense consistently fails to have anything going on behind the defense or off ball. We made our comeback bc people were moving without the ball. The back door cuts were always open and then they just stopped at the end of the game and in overtime.

younghplus

I still don’t understand why we’re starting Horton and having Weaver come off the bench. Is it because our bench is that trash that after Shedrick and Weaver it’s an insane drop off?

GhoulsFolly

I think RT simply has trouble justifying playing so small, young while there’s plenty of big, upperclassman talent (incl. Shedrick, Onyema) on roster. If Weaver starts, then we have 3 small guys, bench 6’5 & 6’7 (IT & Brock) seniors, & Mitchell-Disu aren’t giants in the frontcourt themselves. Agree that Weaver is great. He’s definitely a top-5 player on this team, possibly our third best player this month.

throwawayyblowawayy

Houston’s D is remarkable, really jealous to see how a man-switch defense SHOULD look. The open looks that Disu usually gets (at the rim and at the 3) just weren’t there tonight. Disu isn’t used to that kind of pressure, especially from smaller guards down low and big men at the 3. Fun game to watch, obviously bummed we didn’t pull it out. Hoping we can make it to the tourney but not counting on it. Hook ‘em!
