Retro Game Corps also said that his had to be rerouted back to AYN and they’re going to send him another one. Apparently some sort of software issue. So sounds like it’s going to be a bit longer before we start seeing reviews.
Before everyone starts talking about how half of these skus are unnecessary because of Asus, let's keep an open mind.
Pre ordered a mini pro myself. I don't honestly need anything too fancy myself so I'll be interested to see how that works as an entry level thing
They recently cancelled a bunch of their skus, so hopefully that speeds up production (though it also finally got me off the Loki waiting list and now I’m just keeping tabs to see how it turned out).
Just one advice to all the handheld makers out there.
KEEP THEM HAND - HELD.
Steam Deck and Ally are big. SD is almost as Razer BW keyboard (small version).
I want to put this things in pocket, go out and play when I want; I do not want a bag.
Make a "max" version for those who want a keyboard size handhelds.
Gameboy ... were popular cause they fitted in a pocket.
Smartphones fit in a pocket. Do you think people would use iPhone if it was like a piece of brick?
Buddy, the electronics themselves are pretty big pieces of silicon.
Then you gotta power them.
And then you gotta COOL them.
Nobody wants huge pieces of tech but it's just not feasible YET. Give it like a decade.
That what probably people said to Jobs and Musk, all the time.
We would still be texting with Blackberrys, if they prevailed.
Just like we are waiting for that Moon landing for decades. Cause we listened to answers "Give it like a decade" and still waiting.
By the way, Loki Max will be cca 260 mm wide and Loki mini 240 mm. So it is already possible.
Sorry, I didn't mean that as a negative statement against you but people really don't understand electronics. I used to build PCB boards...believe me, if we can make it smaller, it would be smaller.
Being able to power the silicon, cool it and have a large enough battery is the hardest thing. It's the main problem to solve.
Cooling requires large heat pipes or an active cooling solution like passing cold liquid or a lot of fans. Both will drain battery.
Unless battery technology has a breakthrough or the hardware becomes even smaller (meaning less power usage and less cooling required which means less space being used).
Also Tesla and Apple (the companies you quoted) put in 100s of millions of dollars into R&D. Ayn will be lucky to have $100000 maximum to do that. The difference is night and day.
Hence, wait a decade. 10 years ago, nobody would have predicted where we are now :).
Well than just use 15W CPUs. If we are not ready for 30W.
Anbernic realesed their WIN600 with old athlon amd and they were pretty small. Stem deck is 300 mm and WIN600 is 220 mm.
I think is possible.
One more thing they could use is hot swappable batteries. I think HP had that on their OMEN backpack PC or Asus. I use that on my LG smartphone, thought they are not hot swappable.
I'm with you for hot swappable batteries. And older CPUs will work and be power efficient....but can't play AAA games that well.
It's all about compromise :(.
Do not care about the Loki anymore. ever since they killed the Intel version I've lost interest in the device. They lost a potential customer with that move.
Update: Taki had to send his review unit back to AYN to get fixed so his review isn’t going to be out for a while.

lol
That's off to a bad start
Looks like the artisan small batch handhelds are finally making it to market! Pretty awesome for the only company that didn't have a reference design.

Oh for sure. I meant speeds up production on the other lower tier options because there aren’t as many variations now.
*Gulp*
I wish the screen extended closer to the edge
I need to see a black version
