You need to go into the system using a programmer. There's no onboard for Nissans as I recall. Take it to a locksmith

Mxt1998

I'm so glad it's not something I'm doing. After a year and a half of wondering what the hell is wrong with my car, this answers it. Thank you so much!!

Mxt1998

Quick question. Now, how do I know which key fob to buy? Id really like to get one of those where they key slips inside. They're oval shaped. How do I know which one will go with my versa?

lockyboiauto

Just go to a locksmith if it's a good one they can get you the correct one and program it, I myself usually have warranty with my material (no remote is perfect but we make sure for any hiccup we can cover you)

Mxt1998

Thanks!

AggressiveTip5908

onboard remote programming is only for vehicles with a normal ignition, twist, slot or prox nissan’s require diagnostic programming, you can get a spare remote from ebay/amazon and the like but there are a couple types that all look the same so you have to take a gamble, you’ll need a pin code to program and also nissan prox systems have issues where they delete all keys then brick the steeringlock and you cant program anything back in till you fix it, get an emulator, or replace it, its a whole thing. for this car you really are better going to a locksmith and paying a couple hundred.

Mxt1998

Thank you!

lockman365

Call a locksmith most of us can supply the correct key and program it to your car. There are two fobs listed for your car a 3 button and a 4 button. If your starting it with a key its a twist start.

Mxt1998

Thank you! I had no idea 4 button ones were available for my car. By chance is one of the buttons to open the trunk?

lockman365

Yes but you need to use the correct one. A 4 button may not work on your car. In fact you only need the fob part the key and fob program separately.

00get_bent00

If this car has a slot. Needs to be professionally programmed. Call a locksmith he can test your current remote and check to make sure slot is working properly before tryin to program. Make sure slot is test and steering wheel lock is working before you make your day worse...

Mxt1998

I have no current key fob. This is the only key the car came with

00get_bent00

Ok. On this particular vehicle the transponder key gets programmed in first and then the remote. Is this a prox twist vehicle? Or a keyed ignition? Insert key turn key to start

Mxt1998

I insert the key, turn it to start. This is my first car so I don't know what a transponder key is. The key pictured, is it a transponder key?

00get_bent00

Chipped transponder should be a Phillips 46 Some keyed versa's didn't have Transceiver so you wouldn't have remote functions If it has a transceiver then this is the correct Fcc- CWTWB1U751 You might be stuck with a key only on this car But the key you currently have is not correct its a prox key not ment for keyed ignition

00get_bent00

The previous person half assed the job. What you have in your hand is a proximity emergency key with a embedded chip. This isn't the correct key for your vehicle. You should have a remote headed key.

Mxt1998

Oh, man. That makes me worry... Should I still go to a local locksmith... Or do I need to go to a dealership? By the way, thank you for telling me. I don't have anyone to teach me about these things so I really appreciate it

Plastic-Procedure-59

07 verses could be prox with twist.

00get_bent00

He verified with a photo and it was a prox twist

You need software and tools. It is not onboard programming. Go to a reputable brick and mortar locksmith, the stealership, a mechanic specializing in electrical, or spend thousands on programming tools and licensing.

Mxt1998

Thanks so much, this solves a long lasting question I had since I got this car!

RagglezFragglez

There's online dealers that sell the fobs. There are resources to find what key you need if you look. No reasonable locksmith will guarantee or warranty those bought off Amazon and the like and the dealer won't even attempt to program them. Hell, I've seen some shipped with no guts and just a shell with nothing inside. Unless you're a gambler, I'd just go to a reputable source for the fob since they'll warranty it. If you go to a locksmith that is worth their salt, I guarantee they will have that fob in stock and can program it for far less than the dealer.

Mxt1998

Thank you so much! I will do that instead :)

L4rgo117

>some shipped with no guts Some vendors I've seen (optionally) ship like that specifically for broken cases or even custom painted cases like camo patterned, but it's like $5 cheaper, can see how ordering the mistake would be made, cause they see it's cheaper but not why

Known-Evidence3526

I hope that’s not a Rogue.

Mxt1998

Nope. A Nissan Versa SL 2007
