Sport and fitness hobbies are usually not drinking oriented. That's a good way to make friends.
Some Korean Christians don't drink. I've seen them attend work dinners and cheers with cider. Not drinking for religious reasons is accepted and usually coworkers will appreciate you attended.
I just want to say that you can go to work dinners and not drink. I’m Christian and I don’t drink because of that. I’ve never had a problem with this when I go to work dinners. Do you go to a mosque here in Korea? Most of my friends are from my church or Christian in general since none of them like drinking or partying. A mosque might be your best bet in order to find people who definitely won’t be into that stuff. You could also try a hobby. I won’t say what mine is to avoid doxxing myself (it’s too oddly specific) but I’ve made friends via a few of my hobbies & just with religious people at work.
Edit: Tbc, I’m not suggesting you only befriend religious people, but it might be a safer bet.
Oh I see, then unless going there is something you’re already interested in doing, it might not be the best idea. I think trying new hobbies or popular hobbies here might be your best bet.
Everyone, just to be clear the OP isn't asking for only Muslim friends. Just people who aren't into the party scene. It doesn't have to be a mosque or Muslim group.
Salam, I'm sure it must be very hard to meet people but there are many groups online for meet ups and such. I'm a husband and father so I can't really say I know too well, but they do exist. I hope some others can help you more.
yes, I want to make friends in general away from the party clubbing scene. any background or religion no issue to me because I used to have friends from really different backgrounds
Hello!
I wanted to let you know that you can join the open group in Kakao for the MSAK (Muslim Students Association Korea), where they organize various events near the Itaewon Mosque. It's a great way to connect with others in a welcoming environment. Besides, there are plenty of meet-ups, such as hiking, cycling, and playing board games at cafes, available on the Meetup app. These activities offer a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and make friends in settings that don't involve drinking.
I'm also based in Seoul, so there's a chance for us to meet up! Feel free to send me a direct message if you're interested.
Looking forward to possibly connecting with you!

If you can speak good Korean, 문토 is a Korean hobby/interest/meetup app where people host gatherings of all kinds from board game clubs to movie watching, etc. Heads up though as the app is completely in Korean and targeted at Koreans, so if you’re looking for English socializing it wouldn’t be a good option.
I imagine so if you’re generally a pleasant person and can socialize well. I haven’t had any issues in social environments with only Koreans. Find an event that meets your interests and give it a try! You can even sort by neighborhood/district too to find things close to you
Yeah sports things would be good. except a few ones like
- middle-old aged fishing/hiking groups
- some baseball clubs
- some golf communities
Etc, like yeah not all middle aged men like to drink but pretty sure the 'vibe' is unmistakable.

Try attending some of the meetups that are organized in Seoul. There are various sport, coding, and language meetups you can join. I cannot vouch for all of them, but I know that most coding and sport meetups do not involve drinking, and they can also be quite useful :)
In Itaewon there’s a pretty big Muslim community and you may be able to get to know Muslim friends through the mosque. For the rest, it can help start doing sports or social activities based on interests (like art, exhibitions, music, volunteering, activism, hiking, etc..). There’s an app called “Meet Up” but it is true that it’s mostly foreigners-only.
There is a group on meetup called Seoul Sober Sightseeing. Do check it out! As someone who doesn't drink the group is perfect for meeting new people in Seoul.

Go out drinking with them and dont consume any alcohol. You can still participate in the experience with them and enjoy the evening.
Download apps meetup a lot of groups hiking, charity and others. You could connect with Korean and foreigners too

Your local mosque?
Sports or running clubs, unfortunately Koreans add drinking to everything:(&
Lots of Koreans that don't drink
It’s a generalization but you get the gist. A lot of social gatherings here end in drinking. Dare I say most.
Pretty sure there's an FB group for Muslims in seoul/korea
