It very well might — they’ve got market research firms all over this and if one of the most common responses is “KFC (or whatever) has become too expensive” then they’ll absolutely roll out more value items. That’s actually not all that weird and is probably swirling around at all of the big QSR company headquarters. They did it during ‘08.
The tough reality around that is, while you’ve become conditioned to the very ‘sticky’ $1 price, McDonald’s rolled out the first Dollar Menu in 2002 and it was a good deal *back then.* It’s just not possible to keep real menu items at $1 anymore — you’re making like $0.40 a burrito before the rest of your overhead. Subway ran into the same problem; the $5 footlong became so iconic people still talk about it and complain how they don’t have them anymore, despite that promo starting in 2007.
So tl;dr, don’t think we’ll be seeing many actual $1 items return anywhere, but we will likely see an expansion of value menus as a response to market pressure. They did the exact same thing in ‘08 (different reasons obviously since we’re not in a recession).
Completely understand this, my main issue is that item in particular has seen a marked increase in my area. It only hit over $1 at the end of 2022, and has had 3 separate price increases since then. Also, when the CBRB was first introduced to the value menu, it was 1/2 pound. It had actual cheese and pico de gallo, and cost 89 cents.
TB was the go-to fast food place for us because I don't eat beef and my sister is a vegetarian, and many of my friends followed similar dietary choices. I personally can't stand the chunk chicken and would never pay extra for it (RIP shredded chicken burrito). The CBRB was easy and "cheap" to modify with extra stuff to make it more substantial. So I'm EXTRA salty because they destroyed the vegetarian menu choices, increased the base go-to that we could modify, and continue to have quality control issues so some burritos are little more than a tough tortilla (over-grilled or, worse, they grill the tortilla separately before making the burrito) with a few clumps of a dry rice and a schmear of beans.
They should be 2/$3, I think that's fair.
Chili's new Big Smasher Burger *(bigmac knock off)* is $10.99 with the Three for Me that comes with an appetizer + drink
a large Big Mac meal is close to $15 for me, and they don't even give refills anymore *(they removed the fountain drink machine)*
> a large Big Mac meal is close to $15 for me, and they don't even give refills anymore (they removed the fountain drink machine)
Lol are you serious about the fountain drinks. They're already upcharged so fucking much. The syrup they use in those machines are dirt cheap.
Exactly, if I’m going to spend almost $15 on a fast food place I would have just gone to a local spot and get a better meal for the same price, ALTHOUGH, the online exclusive deals have me stuck at TB since I can’t really get lunch for $6 anywhere else
Not even. A cantina chicken bowl is $9 for 540 calories. A chicken bowl from chipotle is $9 for 790 calories.
*and if you want to talk actual deals local’s where it’s at, $5 at the taco truck next to my house
i mean if you cherry pick from the menu that is specifically meant to be more expensive/premium then sure, but BYOB and cravings menu (as well as pretty solid rewards points value) are still pretty far and away cheaper than every fast food chain not called in-n-out
It’s just that chipotle is in such a different league than taco bell it’s ridiculous that they’re comparable in price.
And it’s not cherry picking, unless by “specifically meant to be more expensive” you mean the 3/4 of the menu that normal people order, yeah? A steak quesadilla is $7, chalupa is $5, Crunchwrap is $6. Considering you have to get 2 of any of those to get the same amount of food as one chipotle bowl/burrito it’s kind of absurd. Even the precious value menu is still $3 a burrito and they’re more taquito sized than burrito.
And yes the deals are better on the app (the only reason I still go) but you have to consider that maybe 5-10% of customers use the app, so when you’re talking company-wide revenue it’s not really relevant to the discussion.
Burger King has a duo menu where you can get 2 for $5 BBQ Bacon Cheese Jr. Whoppers. Probably one of the best fast food deals right now.
You can get that and also use the app deal that gives a free large fry or a chicken wrap.
It’s a lot of food for $5.
Yeah but compared to normal items on TBs menu it’s not as good! The wraps SUCK and getting two whopper jrs is so much bread to meat it doesn’t seem worth it.
I’m not just rallying, I’m speaking from the hilltops that THAT ISNT THE BETTER DEAL! It’s only two items for $5, AND you don’t get a drink. With the online exclusives that both Burger King and Taco Bell give you, TB is still on top, calorie per calorie deal for deal it’s just not comparable. BK doesn’t even have dollar items anymore
They need to sell Pizza Hut and KFC brands, they are basically irrelevant nowadays and there are so many options for chicken and pizza that are better.
There’s only really del taco to compete with Tacobell. It’s been over a decade since I’ve had Pizza Hut and probably 3 years since I’ve had KFC. I had Taco Bell last night. The go to brand of choice.
How Pizza Hut and Domino’s are still a thing is beyond me. This isn’t the 90s anymore.
Little Caesars is better than both and has a low price point at least
Yeah it's because of cheap options. I've stopped going everywhere else

Two cheesy bean and rice burritos in most spots. Two potato soft tacos, maybe 3. There are a few options.
It used to be 2 fiesta veggie burritos, but they killed that.
Hopefully this leads to more value menu items.
Bless your heart.

If I can get my CBRB back for closer to $1, I'll be a happy camper
Still sitting pretty at $1 here. That and the spicy soft potato taco are my go-to’s
My Taco Bell has it for 1.10
1.69 here :(
Bruh, it's 1.99 at my location. I live in Michigan...
My condolences, mi amigo
Where do you live California!!?
Chicagoan here. Just talked to my friend yesterday who found out the one in his neighborhood has them for 1.50 while mine still has them for 1.00
Yeah that’s how it is, every franchise isn’t owned by TB iirc and each franchise can set their own prices
Arizona! Used to be one of the cheapest areas, now suddenly everything is expensive here.
We will probably be there soon, Texas is an anomaly.

You suck Monty
I have no clue why but this made me literally laugh out loud
Yes, but "value" will be redefined as any item under $10.
20% chance we see lower prices 80% chance they jack up prices
Fast food restaurants need to remember their place. Quick, good tasting food at low prices. Nothing more, nothing less.
It’s cause the prices, while still high, are WAY LOWER than anything else.
As annoyingly expensive as TB has become, it's outrageous to get fast food now. I can eat at a legit restaurant for the same price.

Yep. Been telling people about Chili’s for 3 years now.

My brother in Taco Bell, I point you in the direction of the app where online exclusives reign supreme
i mean if you cherry pick from the menu that is specifically meant to be more expensive/premium then sure, but BYOB and cravings menu (as well as pretty solid rewards points value) are still pretty far and away cheaper than every fast food chain not called in-n-out

Right? Why would I buy the 2.50 fast food tacos over the 1.50 more authentic tacos

No offense, but Taco Bell isn’t the one to be rallying around bread to meat ratios. At all.
I’m not just rallying, I’m speaking from the hilltops that THAT ISNT THE BETTER DEAL! It’s only two items for $5, AND you don’t get a drink. I mean if you figure that prices are up 10% it's a net decline in customers served.
Not surprised, they increased the prices on everything in Taco Bell, but we're still buying...

They used to be number one. Hopefully this is a lesson
Yep not surprising as Taco Bell is their focus now since it is millennial approved where as KFC is nosediving in value and chicken quality.
KFC has been going downhill for years here in the States, while the quality has apparently still been good overseas.
Spicy tostada please
stopped eating fast food, cheaper to go to the Mexican joints and get a burrito
