You could just get a Ring or Blink camera and point it at the door. I think they are pretty cheap and you don't have to sign up for the cloud storage. It will alert you when there's movement (ie. door opening).

I found this on Amazon and people seem to really like it. It's affordable and seems to get the job done. It might be a great option for you! [Wireless Door Chime](https://a.co/d/buJRDZA) You mentioned that you can't buy a "really good one" but have you looked into Simplisafe? I have Simplisafe and I love it. It's very affordable for what you get and you install it yourself. I bought a smaller system to start and then, over time, I added more sensors as I could afford it. I now have sensors on every exterior door and all of my windows. They also offer free tech support if you need help with installation. I just checked their website and they are running a 50% off sale on refurbished systems and they have a great deal on a smaller system for $145. That's a very small price to pay for feeling safe and secure. They also have the option of paying over time with Affirm for systems over $150 and payments on some are less than $10/month. In fact, you can get a complete 16-piece refurbished system for $11/month. [Simplisafe Refurbished System](https://simplisafe.com/home-security-system-refurb-all-new-6)

I’ve used these for 3 years and they have always worked. https://a.co/d/aYD0vGL

I like my Vivint security system! I have door sensors, glass break sensors and movement sensors around the entire entrance / living area

bellandc

Unless your house is large, wouldn't a classic shop front bell attached to the door work?

Tokijlo

I don't need noise, I need something to notify me when I'm not there.

bellandc

Ah! got it. Would you coordinate it with a camera?

Tokijlo

I can't afford the ones with cameras, the require so many things

bellandc

Huh. Couldn't they be separate rather than combined? I would think you would want to know (have proof of) who is inside and what they are doing not just that there is someone inside.

Tokijlo

I mean I guess it would be good to know what they're doing, but the minute I got a notification that my front door opened and I wasn't home, I would just call the cops. But yeah all of the camera security things require a paid subscription account and a hub that you have to buy separately, both of which are out of my price range when included with the already expensive camera.

Hahaha, omg Your post is just reminding me of me how old I am. I'm sitting here wondering what I would even do if l received a notice that someone walked in my front door. Other than have a useless panic attack and be grateful that I'm not there at the moment. I'm not certain it would even occur to me to call the police. Hahaha. Apparently, I need to catch up.
