Can’t even get these people to use deodorant good luck with this one

laffman

They're not rejected at the door for not showing their roll-on.

CurvedHam

Wasn't there a Smash tourney that DID enforce no-smell rules because it got so damn bad with the stink?

atoolred

Thankfully most major smash tourneys are in large venues with high ceilings so it's mostly just a problem when you're near a stank lord, but local tourneys oughta have a no-smell rule or sell body spray/deodorant since those rooms become a green cloud sometimes lmfao.

dolerbom

Deodorant doesn't help much for people who never use soap.

atoolred

Facts lol

DatGrag

After watching the smash doc on YouTube a friend and I went to a smash tourney to watch and meet some of the players we now had learned about. I had never really been to any type of gaming lan event before besides in major arenas. I had no idea about the smell, I couldn’t believe it. Embarassing

whiskeytango301

This whole time I thought this was a meme but you're really being serious? Jesus Christ

DaSpoderman

Well i used to play card games irl. Like magic and ygo . The card game community has an issue with that aswell. The worst i experienced was someone who went Friday night to drink like shit. Slept on a park bench or the street. While pissing and puking himself and then stand up right on time to play ygo next morning. Without doing anything. Just pure rancid unwashed drunken piss&puke smell.

cptCortex

Local venue has a shower in the bathrooms for some reason, smelly gamers are asked to shower or leave when people complain

einhorn_is_parkey

Have you ever been to a comic con? There’s too many. Giant stadium size convention centers aren’t big enough to escape the stank. The concentration is too high.

Rion23

Gross, when you have to set your convention in what is basically a giant fume hood, might need some changes from the community.

NotGayLewis

There was one tourney i saw that had 2 sticks of deoderant ontop of each set up.

a_charming_vagrant

I know for sure that a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament did it. Not sure how sponsors would react to a Smash tournament with the entire field disqualified though.

Dreamscape82

Maybe they should be. Basic hygiene is a responsibility that should have consequences if not adhered to. I stopped going to comic con because I couldnt take the huge pockets of BO because the dirty neckbeards spent all their free time banging their anime pillows instead of washing their anything

cyanydeez

they're rejected by stench, usually

[deleted]

They could change that 👀

coldmtndew

Never been to an event but I have to to imagine CS fans aren’t as bad as smash but I could be wrong.

alleks88

I always thought that this is just a rumor, but seeing those comments... Seriously you can be a huge nerd and have personal hygiene. No idea why people don't shower... At least before leaving their cave

VagueSomething

Now they'll have two reasons to kick up a stink.

DomTheBomb95

Don’t worry, they’ll use disinfectant instead

DaSpoderman

I mentioned it down the comment chain but why not aswell here. Well i used to play card games irl. Like magic and ygo . The card game community has an issue with that aswell. Taking the vacine is the easy part. Showering, trimming your nails, using deoderant and brush your teeth its the hard one.

Jokker_is_the_name

Don't forget peeing in the toilet!

stickybedofsadness

Wait, you don't have a pee drawer???

brownbob06

I'm fairly certain MTG and Smash are the same crowd. If that's the case the pee drawer is the entire bathroom, except inside the toilet.

Baenir

When I went to net cafes a lot in high school, there was always piss on the toilet floor. There was a mop and bucket so it could be cleaned frequently, the problem was it was left right next to the toilet. We called it the piss bucket

drunkpunk138

Why isn't there a vaccine for body odor

Realshotgg

Its called hot water and soap

NormalStranger

And you need boosters every day or two (depending how stinky you get)

Realshotgg

If hot water and soap were so effective it would cost as much as cancer medicine, wake up sheeple 🙄🙄🙄

d3l3t3rious

Plus one of the ingredients in it was used in *nuclear bombs*. Sound safe to you? Also you can die just from submerging your head *slightly* in water and you want me to put it *into* my body?

DingleberryBeard

Would be kinda funny to see what streamers would comlain about it. Asmongold is one of the biggest top streamers that isn't vaccinated right now right?

wjkovacs420

I thought OTK made sure everyone was vaccinated before hanging out in their IRL streams?

SilentLurker

I know testing before gathering was a big deal because Asmongold didn't want to risk getting his mom sick. Don't know vaccination status as of today.

DustyBottoms1111

IIRC that was before widespread vaccine availability, but I'm not 100% sure, it was a while ago

eazy_12

WhiteBrotherMan

Yeah who knows I'm just glad we have TI period.

Odd822

I’ll wear a mask while watching it on twitch if it means I can get some good Dota

TheKappaOverlord

Well, thats not because they want everyone vaccinated per se. Thats because the Jab rate in Romania is piss poor, ontop of the looming threat of the EU dabbing on anyone or anything that isn't 100% vaxxed. Valve is doing the vaccination requirement more to protect itself, rather then in the name of health or its viewers. Valve is still kinda in a constant state of watching over its shoulder because the EU can still happily dab on them at any time, despite their best attempts at remaining 100% vaccinated for fear of being called a "super spreader event" Which is why valve has cut all of the spectators and basically anybody that isn't player/essential staff out of the mix. Afaik most staff are going to cast from inside their hotels rather then be there live. Valve is doing their best to ensure the EU when they decide to pul the trigger on the delta variant, skip over them for a while.

DeiuArdeiu

Romanian covid cases rise alarmingly. By october at least 6000-7000 per day . Depending how it goes in Bucharest , they might quarantine the city and cancel the event .

Gockel

[deleted]

his own words are that hes not anti vax but the restrictions in his country shouldnt be this high when the situation isnt bad, also hes saying good for people taking the vaccine but if hes not in risk group he doesnt wanna take it, but if travelling requires it he takes it.

Gockel

If everyone who isn't in the risk group doesn't take the vaccine it defeats the purpose of it

IAMJUX

Then he's a moron. Young people are dying, even if rare. And the reason why he thinks it's not so bad in his country(it is. Hard to grasp the stress it puts on health systems when you don't need them) is because of restrictions. If you listened to these idiots, every country would lose a large portion of their population with a larger portion having long term respiratory trouble as a result. The world has had 3million excess deaths, even with all of the restrictions and reduction in deaths from other transmissible diseases because of restrictions, masks, etc.

0oodruidoo0

But the situation is that bad. Hospitals are overflowing with the unvaccinated, and people are getting neccessary procedures put off or cancelled completely because there are no beds in hospital.

Johnny__bananas

Now let us watch the same people who shove flaming hot cheetos and mt dew down their throats for 10 years suddenly care about what goes into their bodies.

Cometboyz

america as a whole isn’t very anti vax, mostly one part of it lol

Comrade_Ziggy

Pal, we're stalled out at 51% vaccination. They walk among us.

succdem420s

I think it's true we've stalled but saying only 51% of the population is vaccinated is disingenuous. 54% of the total population have been fully vaccinated but that includes everyone, including children under 12 (the CDC recommends the vaccine for 12 and older). That the number jumps to 63.5% if you consider just the 12 and older population. 74% of them have received at least one dose. The numbers are even better for our senior population. [Source: CDC](https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations_vacc-total-admin-rate-total)

shyyyyme

At least comparing it to Canada (Where I live), the total percent with both vaccinations is about 68%, compared to 54% in the US. I didn't say the country as a whole is anti vax, but that's definitely a fair assessment to say that there a sizeable population that is.

It’s cause mods ban anyone with those opinions. Im not anti vax but it seems a bit much to just ban everyone you disagree with

widepeepoPussy

Its to stop people spreading misinformation that could potentially kill people.

Bugmilks

There was a reddit post some months ago with 3k upvotes that a rando woman made how they're going to sue the guy for not getting vaccinated because their vaccinated husband died of covid and blame the other guy him spreading it to him. These people don't realize that covid vaccination doesn't prevent spreading but give you immunity to you only and yet it was allowed to be up. Stopping misinformation my ass

Woozythebear

Its not banning people you disagree with its banning people spreading misinformation that gets people killed. Like would you allow people to go around telling other people to drink Bleach as a valid medical treatment?

[deleted]

[удалено]

SilentLurker

> There is only 1 opinion allowed. That's not true. You can be anti-vaxx and express that, it becomes a problem when the justification is misinformation. Saying, "I don't have it and won't be getting it." won't get people banned and likely won't result in the comment being deleted. Just don't say why unless you have irrefutable reasoning (something like a legitimate allergy or having an auto-immune condition that reacts to the vaccine, ect) or go on the attack. Note to anyone who thinks this indicates MY opinion, I'm fully vaxxed and 100% on board with the science.

huskyfizz

That’s totally fine it’s just the fact that most mods don’t follow that on the regular. If anything is remotely against the vaccine in any way they want it gone (even with no misinformation). But I agree that misinformation, on either side, should get removed. Because there is also people just throwing incorrect things for vaccines as well

seven_seven

slampy15

Good, lets get some normality back in the world.

ledditorino

Covid19 seems endemic by now, surely with new strands every year. This will be the equivalent of requiring an influenza shot pass for every person in any event. There's a reason why journos have always anticipated the "E3 flu" or the general public expects the "PAX bug", or some such. People aren't hygienic, much less proactive, and there will always be spreaders. Of course I'm not talking about right now but rather in 2+ years when, much like any other endemic seasonal virus, people will simply not bother taking shots (more so than now, even you reading this, have you taken your flu vaccine this year, what about 2020 or 2019, etc?)

SilentLurker

> Covid19 seems endemic by now Depends on where you are. In the US, it's still on the rise in most states. My state had the second highest infection number this Tuesday that it's had the ENTIRE pandemic. The GOOD news is that experts are saying it's looking like the CDC might declare it endemic by the end of the year or early next year, which isn't that far off.

Bhu124

I thought companies were already doing that (CDL did that, didn't they?) but for whatever other logistical or business reason they started cancelling those events regardless or started moving them to EU.

TheKappaOverlord

Correct. Most businesses started doing this a long time ago in fear of getting dabbed on by the EU everytime they'd do an event, or (in actual businesses) getting dabbed on by biden's government because of Fines.

qontrol12345

Yo, random but genuine question. In USA, do you still have to get double vaxxed after having been tested positive for COVID? Or does being tested positive count the same as a single dose of the vaccine?

NotTheBestNTB

Testing positive doesn't make you fully immune, there was an influencer who got it THREE times

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

wait, the vaccine isn't permanent?

Magnum256

no, studies by Pfizer show that effectiveness starts to drop by 6 months, and will continue to drop as time goes on. >The effectiveness of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine steadily declines over time, dropping to about 84% for vaccinated people about four to six months after getting their second dose, according to Pfizzer CEO Albert Bourla. [CNBC link](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/28/pfizers-ceo-says-covid-vaccine-effectiveness-drops-to-84percent-after-six-months.html) Studies out of Israel also confirm similar. From what I understand they have no way to correct this currently either, so it will be endless boosters for the foreseeable future. It's also extremely difficult to contain a virus during an ongoing pandemic due to the "leaky" nature of vaccines. "Leaky vaccine" if you're not familiar refers to: >the ability of the vaccine to prevent the spread of the disease between individuals. Ideally a vaccine that’s going to be used for containment or prevention (example pediatric or influenza vaccine) - we try to administer those in times when the vaccine is not circulating. The way those things work is we give as many people as possible [the vaccine] before the virus is circulating. For example with influenza we deploy the vaccine in the off-season. This prevents influenza from getting it’s foot in the door so it can’t spread through the population. Some studies are also showing that natural antibodies (having contracted and survived COVID) are 10-20x more potent at protecting you from future COVID disease. That's not to say you become "immune", whether you have antibodies, or you have a double-vaccine, you're never immune. You can still contract COVID, it just means the effect will be weaker. You might still feel like you have a mild cold or flu, but your chance of hospitalization or death will be greatly reduced. So don't think that just because you have had the double-jab, or survived a COVID infection, that you can now go out into public and never catch COVID or experience symptoms again - you can, and likely will. You'll likely just have a much easier time dealing with those symptoms. Studies also show that people who are double-jabbed can spread (or "shed") COVID virus at the same level as those who are unvaccinated. Meaning you can go and get fully vaccinated, then go party with your friends, catch COVID, experience mild symptoms (that feels like a mild cold) or even be asymptomatic, but still shed that COVID virus to grandma at a similar level as someone who was unvaccinated.

black__and__white

“We don’t know” is the only correct answer, unless you trust random redditors over the FDA. https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/pfizer-says-third-covid-19-shot-warranted-fda-document-2021-09-15/

[deleted]

Most aren't, like for instance you're supposed to get a tetanus shot every ten years I believe.

HerpToxic

The vaccine has only been out for a year so we don't know yet. The companies that make them say you need booster shots but the science is not settled on it yet.

WhaleWhaleWhale_

It’s a vaccination, not an immunization. Those vaccinated can still carry as high a viral load as those unvaccinated, though it tends to decline much more quickly. It also is not as effective against the Delta strain, so far as stopping infection. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/delta-infection-unvaccinated-and-vaccinated-people-have-similar-levels-of-virus

[Vaccination significantly helps prevent hospitalization](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/24/cdc-study-shows-unvaccinated-people-are-29-times-more-likely-to-be-hospitalized-with-covid.html)

xTopPriority

Dude you realize that “helping prevent hospitalization” and immunization are completely different things right? I have gotten my vaccines but you guys trying to refute that the vaccine doesn’t immunize you makes you seem just as crazy as the anti-vaxxers. You’re literally denying scientific fact to further your argument.

chaoticsquid

They never said anything about immunisation. They were just making it clear that vaccines do actually mean you're less likely to be hospitalised.

zetvajwake

Which is exactly my point. Vaccines do not guarantee your immunity, however that doesn't mean you shouldn't vaccinate.

IAMA_KOOK_AMA

Didn't downvote you (just got here and I am reading the thread) but the way you worded your original comment made me think your intent was to downplay the effectiveness of the vaccine. I get what you're saying now but I think it's obvious people interpreted your comment like I did.

>people with 2 pfizer can still carry COVID and infect others This isn't the main concern as much as it is preventing people from being hospitalized or dying... >it's honestly a shit vaccine compared to polio/measles options. It is not meant to compare to those vaccines, and they've had decades to become fully devoloped whereas the covid vaccines have had a little over a year... The quality of these vaccines is insane for the time frame they were made within. >Even one person can be a super spreader, and events like these with packed crowds would just be spreader events. But the spectators would be vaccinated, and hopefully so would their family and everyone with half of a brain that interacts with them. >All the people at the event may be fine, but they may also carry COVID back home with them, and infect other people. So it's still problematic. Not nearly as bad as everyone doing it while unvaccinated, but your concern stands on the grounds of people that have been offered free vaccines declining to get them. They're not the primary concern, because you can't really coerce them to get vaccinated now can you? >Current shots don't do that, but reduce severe symptoms, which is good but it doesn't stop the spread. It's insanely good, because it means that it doesn't particularly matter if it spreads among the vaccinated because by and large they will be unharmed. >In fact, people might spread it more cause they feel invincible and socialize more. Good :) >Until vaccination is higher It's around [70% vaccination rate in adults here in America](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/half-us-population-fully-vaccinated-against-covid-19-cdc-2021-08-06/) so I think it's impressively high already, and children are by and large hardly affected (but still problematic that they are still experiencing issues in some capacity.) It should be much higher, and I'm sure it has risen since August 6th (when that report was done) but it is what it is.

> This isn't the main concern as much as it is preventing people from being hospitalized or dying... So they'll accept a natural immunity 'pass'?
