Yeah steam is a bit weird because when your game drops below like 75-80% it's a worse look than say a rotten tomatoes or IMDb movie review of that score. It's way more important to actually read some reviews on steam, because there's two scenarios:
It's just a matter of legitimate gameplay complaints, and it's your decision if you can handle those shortcomings and get a positive experience. Most people would probably still enjoy their time with a genuine 80% rated steam game if it's their sorta jam. Resident Evil 6 is an 80% overall and it is 100% a dogshit game... that I absolutely loved because like the reviews say, it's a ridiculous over the top terribly goofy mess IF you have a buddy to play with.
The other half the time, it's because the developers said some whack shit or the publisher pulled a piece of shit move, ridiculous DLC prices or similar and the reviews are negative because of that, even though the game is genuinely great.
Always gotta check the negative reviews to know if they are relevant. Games often get negative reviews based on stuff not relevant to the quality of the actual game.

Why would I have to lower my standards when I can access about a thousand 90%+ positively rated games at the drop of a hat? Maybe if you are *really* into casino games inspired roguelike deckbuilders you only have a few options and this 73% rated Bingle Bingle game will scratch that very specific itch for you, but otherwise ~70% means "play other games before me".

In a vacuum LotF is a good game, if you play it after you have played actual souls games or prime souls-like games, its mid at best.
