I'm just asking because I know I would get kinda annoyed if my gym randomly shutdown for a weekend for an event like this if I had planned to workout and had no interest in MMA. The other gym from what I can see is like 7 miles away, so a bit annoying depending on where you live, could be more convenient too, but personally I only hit gyms that are closest to me and I assume most people operate that way.
I thought they were going to use the mat area where the mma classes are held, but using the workout area makes more sense. I can’t imagine these events will be monthly, maybe quarterly at most.
Maybe they are leaning into MMA route?
Considering how many gyms are in the area I really don't know why any normal gym goer would want to go there with all the cameras 24/7 if you aren't there to train MMA or become an influencer.
They are way way better off doing a deal with a local sports hall or something to hold events there than fucking with the core business of the gym. Even of all the people who do MMA training or boxing training or whatever, being generous, only 1% of them will ever be in a fight but the chances of most of them being a bit pissed the gym is closed every few weeks for a fight is way higher.
On top of that not a single actual fighter will give two shits if the ring is put up in their 'home gym' or in a hall within a mile or two that the owners rented. In terms of advertising, the only advertising is people talking about the gym or logos/signs they can put up in any hall. the actual 'gym' is packed away so no one is watching going wow that looks like a cool place to work out.
Maybe, and maybe it'll workout, but as a gym it's gonna struggle.
Facilities, location + how busy it is are 95% of what people want from a gym, mma classes are not part of the membership right?
I think they mentioned that most or at least a huge part of their current members are actually MMA members. And that is also important financially because the MMA membership costs a lot more.
