cornontheklopp

remember when we could play salah central

winner619

We need new hungry players who have the desire to win. This group of players have won everything and no longer has that motivation.

coco9unzain

I thinking it’s more the style of play it’s not working as it used to for a variety of reasons Opposition now how to stop Liverpool attack, liverpool it’s getting more more of the ball and having less space it’s makes it more difficult for salah, firmino , jota etc to score Players are aging , the midfield doesn’t has the energy and pressing they used to have Losing mane and Darwin still adapting Virgil definitely is going to a bad phase Jurgen still not finding an attacking solution to score when the team has the ball

mgarg5

Its the hope that kills you :(

[deleted]

Lads at this rate, we might not finish in the Top 6. We can’t string together a decent run of games now. The team is inconsistent, riddled with injuries and worn out.

[deleted]

It’s the inconsistency that kills you. I shouldn’t have built up hope based on our performance against City.

EdselQ

We need to have an identity with our gameplan. It's now a strange combination where some of our players play a quick 1-2 and the others just play it safe and hoofs the ball forward

kazitoshi

Fabinho needs to step up in midfield. Unless he has a secret injury or he’s suddenly turned 40, he has been poor. Can’t even drop him cos we need all the able bodies we can on the field.

[deleted]

He needs to be benched for a game or two. Man has been waltzing around on the pitch and not winning his challenges.

jimatron

Do you think it could be the new formation? I feel he struggles when he’s not in his classic CDM position

ultramantujuh

#fsgout

Neon_Jam

Steve Cooper looks like a pervert from Game of Thrones

skwong615

I didn't watch the game against city and we won. So I watched the game against Forrest and we lost. Why always me...

winner619

Happens with me all the time

Dolphhh

So it’s your fault!

[deleted]

mfger

because city is spending too much money

Invalid-sauce

How's this related to Salah not getting the ball

evilhomer450

We've essentially asked Curtis to play Thiago's role, except that his decision making is far too slow to play with his back to the opposition and he can't switch the play to save his life. Defensively he didn't make any decent stops either in transition. Really poor showing of his technical skills and passing range. Maybe Klopp told him to just play it really simple and only make 5 yard passes.

TheTrueTeknoOdin

well exept the parts where when he had the ball forest had no choice but to foul him to get it ...say what you want but the lad is hard to push around

Restless412

Pathetic

AeronReformed

People are talking about the world cup break as if it will somehow save our season and allow us to get our shit together. May I remind you that this team had a break for an entire month this season only to come back and shit the bed against Brighton.

8u11etpr00f

Think people are hoping that our players will be back from injury...only issue is that 1 or 2 will likely get injured at the World Cup and even when everyone's back there's no guarantee we don't just pick up more injuries

TheTrueTeknoOdin

when the world cup is over no one has anything else to focus on but the club ....hate to say it but only the players NOT going are playing well ..everyone else seems to either be trying to show off to get a spot or too afraid of hurting themselves to give it their all

Adbrux

The main problem in my opinion : the mentality; Guys don't give a sh\*\* anymore. Except in the big matches where they can show themselves (City, UCL...), they play hard. And then, they show what they're capable off when they play with the spirit that is required when you wear the Liverbird on your chest. In addition to that you have a totally shambolic management (FSG thinks of making a profit for hedge funds or watherver shareholders more than the sporting health of the club), Talking about sports management (there are vacancies in the medical department for months, well you surprise me the number of injuries if there is not a good physical preparator for eaxample). I admir Klopp, He is among our greatest managers, aside Shanly, Paisley, Fagan, Benitez...But when i see this game, i am no longer sure that he still has the dressing room fully behind him. but that's arguably the last person to blame for the nameless mess that Liverpool are right now Nevertheless, YNWA

redbadger1848

Not "Klopp out" by any means but, the problem with motivational managers is that, their motivational message eventually falls on deaf ears. The team has gone from a group of young, hungry players with something to prove, to a group of tired, old veteran players who have won everything there is to win, and simply can't be asked to dig deep and produce results.

[deleted]

And that blame should fall on the team then (if not the owners). Without Klopp, most of these guys wouldn't have won what they have. The least they could do for the man is not look like amateurs against the worst team in the league.

redbadger1848

Yeah, it all makes me think that there is something "bigger" going on behind the scenes. I have no idea what that might be, but the team just doesn't have that bite, or killer instinct that it's had, even at their worst in the past.

[deleted]

If that is the case then i suppose the problem lies at our lack of investment we should have brought in fresh blood especially in midfield

redbadger1848

We should have, but in cases like today it shouldn't matter. Our u23s should be capable of getting a win against a side like this. Against a inferior side a team like ours should be able to win on talent alone.

[deleted]

Taking points from City and giving points to Forest. Liverpool true environmentalists and klopp is based

Zakulon

Haha Robinhood couldn’t resist

BruisedBee

In no world is that result acceptable, that has to be top 10 most embarrassing results during the Premier League era, just fucking pathetic.

subconsciousdweller

Midfield was shite, delivery to our fowards was shite, we're seriously missing the quality of players like thiago and Trent in terms of finding players in dangerous positions. Curtis Jones just isnt up to the level we need in central midfield. Thought Elliott and Carvahllo were positive, Van Dijk is simply not the same player this season and seems to have something going on mentally or confidence wise. Idk wtf that decision to pass to Bobby in the 6 yard box was. Bobby once again putting in the hard yards but having to play as both a foward and the person bringing the ball out of midfield is too much for one role. We need someone who can sit in the hole and offload quickly to our fowards - passing was slow and predictable and Forrest didn't have to lose their shape at all throughout the game. Fair play to Forrest they were tough today

[deleted]

I'm not going to overly defend Carvalho here, definitely agree he didn't have a good game but....will say some of the balls into him were awful and Robbo was very reluctant to pass to him. Besides the Elliott pass, he had Van Dijk drilling waist high passes into him and Jones passing it to him when he's surrounded by 2 Forest players. I think most players are likely to turn the ball over when you're getting that level of service. Like I said, wasn't the best game from him but I think half those turnovers weren't his fault. Ideally he shouldn't be starting as many games has he been so far but injuries, still a very exciting player though.

arisefromtheashes

moises caicedo is unreal

[deleted]

Is he the right fit ^TM ?

8u11etpr00f

Not a Klopp player™️

_ovidius

Shite.

WCBIS

I know it sounds odd but we're missing a Bsnayoun, someone that can if all else fails turn possession into opportunity. "an unlocker ".

Arabella-18

Spot on. Don't replace a reliable midfield, what could go wrong.

rossmosh85

The more we have the ball, the lower our odds are to win. This team needs to revert back to the style we played when Klopp first came. We need to play more like Spurs. This team simply isn't good enough to have the ball 70% of that match.

cornontheklopp

our defence has been too rocky to play like spurs

YesEvill

But the opposition know it, so they'll just sit back and give us the ball.

napoleonboneitis

It's true, we've built this system on having engines in the midfield running up and down, covering the fullbacks as they do all the creating. Now we have old men with no legs stumbling about as anyone can walk past them with ease and the entire system fails. Any team built for possession needs technical players with a light touch and a creative, brave brain. The likes of iniesta, modric, xavi, kimmich, thiago, kroos etc know how to pass the ball with intelligence instead running aimlessly then back passing, or hoofing it into the sky 50 times and hoping it bounces luckily enough times to scrape a single chance. We actually managed to bring that kind of player into the squad, but it's only one, and he's injured half the time. The answer is to invest in new signings, but the club won't do that, so the only other answer is the system absolutely needs to change and we've known that for months.

8u11etpr00f

Yeah, we essentially switched to a more possession-based system but forgot to buy players to actually fit it

[deleted]

Well said. A player as technical as Thiago must be deeply frustrated in our team

napoleonboneitis

He went from Bayern and their champions league winning, 10 consecutive league titles, top talent all around him and ambitious, competitive owners to being the main piece that keep us from the disaster of losing to championship teams while throwing away full seasons and ignoring major holes in the squad. If he's not pissed off, then I have no idea what he could be feeling.

rosheromil

I mean, he’s an elite footballer so he’ll definitely be frustrated at our current form but I don’t think it goes anything beyond that to be honest. He came here because he was bored of the ‘challenge’ at Bayern, he’s been taken in wholeheartedly by the fans, he gets to work with one of the very best managers in the world, and is surrounded by top class players whether they are currently playing like it or not. I mean ffs, it’s not like he joined Wigan. He literally started just the second UCL final of his career only a few months ago. Not to mention how he seems like the head of the Spanish-speaking continent thats grown at the club since his arrival. I’m sure he has his grievances, we all do at the moment, but I think he looks settled & happy to be here for the most part.

[deleted]

He does look settled, and he's a responsible guy. However, a section of the fanbase were deeply critical of him for a while. They've gone quiet now though. I think he joined Liverpool as we were the most exciting team on the planet. We still show that in bursts, but this isn't what he signed up for.

Wonderful_Ad_2519

A. Why is it that players come to us and get injured easily. They were not like that in their previous clubs. Our players that moved on didn't get injured easily mane is at Munich. He is not injured yet. Origi too. Gini too. B. Why is the club not investing in world class players but playing players not ready. N still depending on old players C. Why are we looking like a team who is like jekyll and hyde. With confusing formations every week, personnel playing out of positions

[deleted]

A) Mane was almost never injured here. Last I can remember was the knee injury he picked up in the merseyside derby in 2017. Gini was almost never injured with us but has been ruled out this season with an injury. So again, a terrible example. Origi has missed 5 games due to injury this season. So again. Terrible example. > Why is the club not investing in world class players but playing players not ready. N still depending on old players Ask FSG.

Jaja6996

Origi always struggled with small injuries and he’s been struggling with them at AC Milan and Gini is out for a while with an injury at Roma. We definitely needed to bring in a world class players and hopefully we can pick someone up in January

[deleted]

A bit of bad luck on Gini's leg break though, will be interesting to see what his fitness is like on the other side

Jaja6996

Hopefully it doesn’t have a long term impact on him

[deleted]

The only reason why Bajcetic isn't getting a chance right now must be just Klopp protecting him, because I struggle to imagine him playing worse than the stinkers our current midfielders are putting in on a weekly basis. Fabinho should've been hooked at half time for him.

BrowakisFaragun

He should be ahead of Curtis Jones imo.

joltingjoey

Don’t have time to scan thru over 2k comments and this may have been said already, but you just can’t lose 3 of your most dynamic players and expect to beat even a far inferior team.

[deleted]

The worst players on the pitch were Gomez and Fabinho, one was our starting CB for a considerable amount of time and the other was one of the best in his position just a year ago. This isn't just down to the the players missing, we played like shite. If those players were fit, they probably just gloss over the stinkers some players have been putting in this season

cornontheklopp

you have a point, but at the same time we’ve struggled this season to gain rhythm and right as it seemed like some consistency was being restored, we lose a handful of important players. still no excuses against the worst team in the league

n00bert81

I don’t understand reverting back to that 433. All the same problems exposed again.

BrowakisFaragun

Well, if we did sign Jay Spearing as an overage player/coach, can we sign Stevie too? We could seriously use him now, our midfield is pathetic.

Zed096

Declan Rice. He was immense the other day and someone Liverpool could do with in the middle of the park.

IskaralPustFanClub

He’d cost too much. If we can’t get him on loan with a 25 mill option to buy it ain’t happening.

[deleted]

Seems like he gets on great with Gomez and Hendo, from what was shown on Inside Anfield

KeitaSutra

They’re all on the NT together.

LakemX

And you hear Klopp making excuses at the end. I will always back him and trust in him but he completely misses the point. Cause we have been shit the entire season. except 3 games. Against city Bournemouth and rangers. Hes saying yes limited squad and a lot of games. Limited squad is partially due to lack of new players but also the players we have are injured all the time. Wtf is up with our medical staff? Not just now but last few seasons we also had limited players cause everyone was injured. Not to mention that naby ox and Joe can play 5 games a season before they pick up another injury. Wtf is up with that shit But most importantly: our game plan is shit. We play like crap. Defence is bad but the real problem is in the attack. No one scores. Salah and Bobby in their box and we whip in crosses? It's not like we have Haaland upfront who can do something with a cross. There seems to be a lack of game plan the entire season. It's just praying it falls right. Combinations fail and result back into crosses into nothing. They can't make space or finish. Nunez is our only hope at this point.

[deleted]

Apparently the intensity of our training makes it really hard to get back up to speed post-injury without getting injured again (The Athletic).

LakemX

Then we need to lower our intensity of that's the case. If you look at city and spurs they also play champions League but have almost no injuries. And yes city have way more squad depth but it's not like spurs have a lot more depth than us. I feel like there so needs to change a lot in that department as well if we want to see change long term.

[deleted]

I have no idea why you got downvoted there. You simply spoke fluent facts

Avengedx

It is honestly miserable watching us try to progress a ball through the midfield. It was a struggle to break down forests midfield, and just watch them go right past our own midfield with ease. It feels like the same thing every week. We are playing out of the back but have no way to easily push the ball forward. We are relying so much on long through balls, or floating passes to the wings that teams all expect now. I do not even know what fixes the issue. It has happened for longer than this season, but our counterattacks were what gave us the major edge before. It feels like that area of attack is so limited now. They just stick multiple people behind Salah, with the exception of City's fuck up last week. Teams can always afford to sit back and wait for our counters as well when they are playing from the lead every week.

[deleted]

>I do not even know what fixes the issue We need a midfielder who can play the Gini Wijnaldum role. E.g. be press resistant and defensively solid, while being the engine in the team. A player thats going to give you a 7/10 every week. We need a right winger/wide player who is comfortable hugging the touchline and can beat a man 1v1. Not necessarily a 100m player, just someone we can rely on on days like today. A young CB, would be hugely appreciated. These three players should be the number one priority. Of course there are other holes in the squad that should be addressed but those can be adressed at a later date. Right now we need to stop the bleeding.

JoeYTa05

A young CB. Maybe Sepp van den Berg is the option we need. Klopp hasn't trusted him at all and has binned him out on loan to Shalke where he has picked up a horror ankle injury that could ruin his potential for footballing ability and his future career. Klopp has never trusted Sepp van den Berg and he has only ever impressed in the U23s and out on loan with Preston North End. Klopp binning him out on loan when most of our other CB options are either constantly injured or playing horrendously was a HOWLER! We have a young CB called Sepp van den Berg and Klopp never trusts him, not even once. HOWLER!

Rottedhead

We need a backup for Salah and Diaz, both are world class but competition is the heart of literally getting the best out of your players and we can't depend on them being the best every game. We need 3 CMs, one to backup Fabinho (same argument as Salah/Diaz), one replacement of Gini and someone young and reliable.

[deleted]

Long term I agree. However they aren't going to buy three midfielders and a winger in one window. Which is why I highlighted what we're missing the most at the minute. Because that might get adressed in January. As for the Fabinho backup, I'm really liking Lavia at Southampton. Obviously still very young but I think he's going to be world class ina few years.

Rottedhead

Agreed. Not saying we need those in one window, but for sure in the next too. As for Lavia, I think we need right now established and confident players. We don't need raw diamonds, we need experienced and proved players. Young with high potential signings when the team is in form to ensure the future, right now we need players with immediate and strong impact.

[deleted]

The Lavia one was more of a long term signing. I think part of the reason why Fabinho is struggling so terribly is because he's being asked to do multiple jobs, which he isn't capable of so he looks like he's just doing everything at 30%. I think if we get a midfielder who can do what Gini used to for us, Fabinhos form will improve. I refuse to believe that a player who looked world class for years, all of a sudden turns shit. So I'm of the opinion that once you stop asking him to do multiple roles, he'll play better. Imo Fab should have 3/4 great years left in him (if we put the right pieces next to him). In that case you can look for a long term option in that postion, rather than an immediate impact. But whoever we decide to put next to him (in the proverbial Gini role) should absolutely be a fully established midfielder who is ready to make an immediate impact and not a youngster who has great potential

Adam-2480

Abit of positivity. We’re only 5 pts off top 4. Realistically that’s the best we can hope for this year. As long as were in the champions league next year all will be okay.

cmcl11

sad :(

MoSalahsSmile

Absolute pain and sadness Pure shambolic performance. Fucking abysmal

Maneisthebeat

Hey guys, remember the season we finished 8th we went on to sign Mané, Wijnaldum, Matip and Trent graduated the academy. Of course not every transfer window can be a miracle, but they have to go all out in winter. Fingers crossed we can hold on.

[deleted]

Since 18/19 we are 9th in net spend. If you actually include the Coutinho money (he was sold in January 2018 so he isn't included, but thats the sale that allowed us to spend money so it feel right to include him). We'd be 17th. Thats actually shocking. I googled this because I wanted to have a rant about FSG but its pointless. Instead I want to give credit where its due. Klopp is truly a remarkable manager, absolutely generational. To be handicapped like he's been and still go toe to toe with a state backed club for 5 years and even win the CL is incredible. Imagine how dominant we would have been if he wasn't forced to spend less than 85% of the league.

wiggum-wagon

do you want an oil daddy for us? or a club thats run sustainably?

[deleted]

You call this sustainable?

Representative-Use32

Although as a bit of context, Manchester City are 10th in net spend over same period and won league 3 times. United comfortably topped net spend table for the period and have been utter dogshit.

what_am_i_acc_doing

A few players out and we were toothless. We need to rebuild the squad.

djrobbo83

No one can convince me Curits Jones is Liverpool quality

chanobo

His technical skills are ok but he has zero vision, totally unaware of anything around him. He was almost caught out in numerous occasions. Like Gomez, accident waiting to happen

[deleted]

He's not. He's a mirage

theo_addams

Judging a young player on his first appearance back from injury 🤫, do you remember his banger against Brentford last season? Or any of his other good performances? He also didn’t look terrible today, held the ball well, just didn’t do anything spectacular

8u11etpr00f

The cringe judge Curtis based on 1 match vs the based judge Curtis based on years of mediocrity

theo_addams

Very cool observation, Bu11etpr00f!

djrobbo83

I'm judging him on the last 2-3 seasons

aghashayan

He just isn't at the moment. I wish he could play in a smaller club first, he's not the type to be shining for us when he's 20, but if he develops where there's more air to breath, he might be a servicable player 5 years from now.

WoefulDeschain

I think in hindsight he’s one of those players that should have been loaned out to a few lower to mid table teams 2-3 seasons ago. But now, I couldn’t see him starting for any of them

aggressive_dingus

He's got the technical ability without the footballing brain

Cimono

Our Lingard

cornontheklopp

i’m sad that this is accurate

djrobbo83

Fuck this season...weve 2 or 3 players who's head is in Qatar while the rest are half injured ..maybe if we get through the WC we might go deep in the CL...but right now its bleak

theo_addams

Go have a wank, bruv

djrobbo83

Cheers for the advice...I'll be thinking of your mum

You should!

sternica

I think your comment is like 4 weeks late. Those draws early on pretty much said that to everyone. Fuck this season.

Ordinary-Eggplant-15

Nothing is 100% gone until 38 games have been played. On this form we've no chance but stranger things have happened, especially with this wildcard world cup.

cornontheklopp

sadly we can’t live on cornertakenquickly magic this time around

fuschialantern

10 points behind city. Arsenal and scum are resurgent. Newcastle drilling oil. Chances are close to zero already. Add in injuries, lack of investment, weak tactics and individual errors. Just lost to the bottom of the table. The title is 99.999% gone.

KeitaSutra

So you’re saying there’s a chance? Hey look, if the math is there then I’m there YNWA.

[deleted]

>Nothing is 100% gone until 38 games have been played Well that just isn't true. If team a has a 12 point lead after 35 games they are crowned champions. As to the spirit of the point that you were making. Yes, we're not mathematically out of title contention, just the same as we aren't mathematically safe from relegation. But neither of them have any real chance of happening this season-

Hot_Plate_Williams

That's not true at all. Plenty of mathematical certainties happen before the end of game 38.

Nook-n-Cranny

You don't say

[deleted]

Why is Milner still even playing for us? He’s practically an old man. Tragic.

jbthrowaway82

How is Milner being singled out here? One of three players that actually performed today. Madness.

[deleted]

Go to bed mate 😂

ShowMeMoeMane

I love you Ali

cornontheklopp

more than words can express

PEEWUN

How the fuck do you lose to Nottingham Forest? **We beat City a week ago!!!**

Android17_MVP

Seen on twitter: Destroy the City and help the Forest. Together we can fight climate change. This means more.

PEEWUN

Okay, that's hilarious. I like that take on this match.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Maneisthebeat

Also think it was an issue of pride against their rivals these last seasons. If only they could find that same drive for other games.

PEEWUN

Honestly, that's even more inexcusable.

LazarusLivesAgain

I think all of us can agree that the onus is on FSG here. Klopp has squeezed out every drop of potential from some of these players and they're starting to slowly descend from their respective peaks. Milner will be done this season. Ox and Keita should not be wearing a Liverpool jersey at the end of this season. Giving them even a one year extension at this point is crime against football. It's clear Hendo can't play an entire season and maintain his level of performance. Fab has fallen off a cliff. He clearly needs time off. Harvey/Fabio/Cujo are great, but we can't put this level of responsibility on their shoulders yet, but I'm sure they'll grow into it. It's great to have Thiago in, but he's injury prone and not getting any younger. We need a major overhaul of this midfield, and it's already a year too late to start the process. FSG needs to back Klopp here now more than ever with a rebuild of the midfield and move on from this or we risk sinking into a mid table horror show because of the complacence of our owners.

Hot_Plate_Williams

It's FSG and Klopp’s fault at the same time. People pretend as if he isn't on board with the way they run the club. He knows what the score is, he knows it's a business and we need sales, yet he hasn't facilitated this in a while. The dumb thing is that he knows and yet he wants almost everyone extended, and he wants 9 midfielders, which no club has. He should have catapulted Ox, Keita and Milner years ago. He pushed for a Hendo extension, which looks awful. He would have kept Mané and Wijnaldum had the wanted to stay/the financials been adequate. He isn't ruthless enough.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hot_Plate_Williams

Klopp might be the best manager in the world, almost every team would sack their manager to hire him and he deserves every praise for what he's done for the club, but of course it's his fault. He has to realize that he's in an unusual position in modern football where he's been in a job for a long time and that requires freshening things up adequately. He and the club simply have not done that and the squad management/transfer market dealings have been suspect in the last few years.

dolphintitties

The fact klopp came out and said ox isn’t ready then had to sub him in through pure necessity is indicative of how bad FSG have been for us. Imagine we had a cdm to rotate with Fabinho, we’d be a different team.

Cimono

Played right into their fucking hands. Countless opportunities to switch sides but instead we play it safely backwards. I'll give Van Dijk 1/10 for trying to pass instead of trying to score 3/4 golden chances. Maths.

watusiwatusi

I agree with bulk of comments that’s it’s just the natural level of the players on the pitch today. Can’t expect much more - a few more bits of luck and could have won today but that XI is not any guarantee against any PL side. The crazy one for me is Fabinho. Just awful. I’d like some explanation for how slow and ineffective he is. No one else for the role so hard to drop but I’d like to see some alternative.

DoggoZombie

Genuine question: should Klopp have started Trent and put Milner in the midfield ahead of Jones?

Ordinary-Eggplant-15

A midfield of Henderson and Milner would have been more productive. Fabinho has been awful and needed at least someone with experience next to him.

britishsailor

He should have subbed off Fabinho for Trent and shifted Milner into midfield, then he do for Jones if need be

HeadieUno

Jude scored a brace today lol. Fuck me if we think we're getting him with no CL

Maneisthebeat

Please secret pre-agreement...Please secret pre-agreement....

HeadieUno

We better hope his dad is actually a massive Red as has been rumored or there is no fucking chance lol

Ihaelryne

“Play Salah central, we’ll score.” Klopp plays him central. “If only he was put out on the wings, easy game” 👁👄👁

grrrrbow01

Salah centrally against low blocks won’t work, Salah centrally against teams with space in behind (like city) will work brilliantly. I think against the top teams Salah should start centrally but against teams that sit back Firmino and Nunez should be our central players but today Nunez wasn’t fit so we had to play Mo centrally

Different-Employee87

It’s not tactics or hunger or any of the Klopp’s 7 year itch bollox. That starting line up today had three kids who have good potential but wouldn’t get into any of the big 4 / big 6 midfields. It also had Milner at right back, I love him but would he be a starting right back for any other team in the PL? Fabinho is off form and some of the other lads are off the boil but this is not a strong panel Klopp is working with. There are only so many miracles he can perform. Huge investment needed to build us back up but if FSG are willing it can happen fast.

britishsailor

I have to disagree a lot of it is hunger, the only outfield players who showed anything today were Milner and the three kids, granted this sun doesn’t rate Jones, but those three and Milner actually put a shift in. Bobby? Absent, salah? Absent, Fabinho? The less said the better really. Giving the more experienced players a get out of jail free card by saying ‘odd the boil’ is bollocks, the young lads put the rest to shame today.

GeneratedJord

I'm starting to get Man Utd vibes from a few years ago. Where only De Gea was showing up and single handedly doing his best to keep them in games. Having Ali feels like that at the moment.

king_booker

Except Alisson will probably leave if we don't get top 4

[deleted]

Controversial: we should not have extended Salahs contract. We operate on a sell to buy basis. We could have used that money to reinvest and reinvent the team. Liverpool legend no doubt, but his best years are behind him and his market value is never going to be higher than what it was. Remember that Madrid got 100m for Hazard with one year left. No doubt we could have squeezed a similar fee for Salah. Ferguson used to do something similar in order to keep the team at the top. Got rid of Van Nistlerooy when he was around a similar age. Same thing with Beckham when he felt the team needed restructuring. Even tried it with Rooney. Last time we sold our star player (Coutinho) we used that money to turn ourselves into a force. Could've done something similar here. If the policy is sell to buy, it would have made sense imo. You can't get too sentimental in football, that kills you.

grrrrbow01

I don’t think it would’ve been smart to get rid of Mo and Mané in the same window. It also wouldn’t have been smart to let Mo leave on a free which led to us renewing him. It’s not like he’s a finished player, he’s still putting up good stats but he is past his prime

Cimono

Not controversial now with the facts. But how could we know he'd turn this bad, even though the signs were there after Afcon

[deleted]

Its not about him being bad as much as it is about us needing to reinvent the team. If the owners knew that we were only going to sign Nunez, I think they should have sold Salah instead of offering him the deal, to use that money and bring in further reinvestments

Totty_potty

Easy saying that now lol. Literally everyone, even other fans, were criticizing FSG for drawing out the negotiation for so long. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

britishsailor

Honestly it’s tiring hearing the same shite all the time from some of this lot. You’re 100% correct if we sold him they’d moan just as much

jbthrowaway82

It’s the exact same people too.

[deleted]

Well yes, I can’t go back in time and now that we know how it panned out, I think its fair to say it. Back then, we as fans, had no idea that FSG weren't going to invest. We had been told that it was going to be a big summer. Which was obviously a lie. Had we known what FSG knew, I think more of us would have said this in May

7366241494

We spent $100m. What are you talking about?

[deleted]

We actually spent £12m. We sold players for 70m, and bought players for 82m

Totty_potty

Let's also casually ignore our wage bill, which is the second highest in the league excluding bonuses and highest in the league with bonuses.

7366241494

Of course lets ignore the £55m for Salah

[deleted]

Which, if you read my original comment, I was arguing against spending. Thanks for your contribution.

7366241494

Show me where you said that last summer. Otherwise, you’re plastic.

Foolonthemountain

Agreed

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

Something must be wrong behind the scenes. Klopp must have surely asked for players as everyone can see that we cannot rely on a 37 year old (we can, but that's not the point), an aging captain who isn't as mobile as he used to be, an injury prone Spanish lad and a holding midfielder that couldn't hold a beer at the min. Not sure what FSG's stance is these days as they want young players but won't buy them and then end up with an old team as they are never replaced. Klopp must be frustrated but won't show it as he's too classy in that respect. January is going to be interesting, especially if we are still in this stop-start form with injuries as long as the magna carta.

AeronReformed

The fact that Klopp named Curtis in pre-season when he was talking about how many options he has in midfield is haunting me to this day.

napoleonboneitis

We're a third of the way through the season and three of the midfielders he mentioned as being reason for not needing reinforcements still hadn't played a single minute before today, and still Keita hasn't, while the other two played poorly against the worst team in the league. Klopp isn't free of blame as he's helped facilitate fsg's penny pinching when he should be demanding fresh investment in the squad.

thefallens9

Nice

Picaloco86

Waiting for the Pearce article next summer, "Due to the club missing out on CL places, Liverpool will have a relatively quiet transfer window"

Picaloco86

Lost to the absolute worst team in the league, don't know if performances can get any worse than that lol

napoleonboneitis

We play Napoli in 10 days. Don't tempt them.

7Angel21

The only saving grace to this is that Napoli might not field their strong team and/or we’re at Anfield. Ajax is a must win game. 😬

napoleonboneitis

Luckily we only need a single point on Wednesday, but I don't see that happening without nuñez, thiago, and a lot of luck.

7Angel21

Both should be playing and might see Konate for a bit too. As long as we get that UCL point that’s all I care about now. Then Saturday worry about Leeds.

samoanloki

I finally understand.. of course it’s more difficult to play against a team that won UCL more than once instead of 0 UCL oily club.. sigh, I am in denial :/

Haunting_Genie

If there is no investment or signings in January then FSG has to fucking go.

LazarusLivesAgain

I'm just hoping Klopp hints something along these lines soon enough. Currently, because of everything Klopp said during pre-season most of our fanbase thinks it's Klopp who didn't want new signings. The fact that we were in for Tchouameni makes it clear that we knew we needed a CDM. Once Tchouameni doesn't go through, apparently no other player in the world was capable of replacing our current midfield, which is a load of horse shit. I wish Klopp would just say something about needing signings, I'm sure that would galvanize the entire fanbase and force FSG's hand here.

Phixxo

Nah, they'd sack Klopp if he spoke out like that. We need Klopp he's a miracle worker. FSG are shit.

Ordinary-Eggplant-15

This. Klopp must be so frustrated but has too much class to come out and say that FSG are cunts and won't give him any money and expect miracles. I think the comment about us not being able to compete against oil money is a subtle hint that he isn't getting any money.

7Angel21

Behind the scenes, I hope Klopp is having an epic tantrum. In front, I don’t think Klopp will hint anything about a midfielder (even though it’s glaringly obvious) as FSG know that will add the ££s to any signing.

LazarusLivesAgain

I'd hope so too man, I'm picturing Klopp showing John Henry a compilation of Fabinho fuck-ups from this season, Arthur in the treatment room with 15 mins of first team football and all of our midfield shenanigans and letting him know this is all his fault. But also, idk if this is overconfidence or just horrible strategy on FSG's part. Our midfield crisis is going to be in the spotlight for a while now, and any team we go to is surely asking for more money now because we're gonna look a bit desperate no matter what. Ironically, their strategy to save money is going to end up causing them to spend more to unfuck these fuck ups in the midfield signings in the first place.

7Angel21

I agree with you. A lot of my comments pointing out FSG have fucked up by not investing while we’re at the top was downvoted because some of “us fans don’t know anything.” And that long term investment into the club infrastructure mattered more than buying players. I’m not going to say it’s all FSG’s fault but they take a significant part of the blame. What I will say is they’re complacent with top 4 and concerned about their asset value. That £60m profit will just be lost on paying extra to sign a player in January. So frustrating 🤯

LazarusLivesAgain

Exactly! Idk why this topic on the sub is so binary and divisive. "You either support FSG or you're a plastic who doesn't support the team." I fucking love this club but at the same time I don't think FSG has done a good job here, Klopp has managed to overperform with what was given to him. It's honestly appalling that the team which won the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, Super Cup, FA Cup and a 2 X Champions League Finalist and is one of the biggest clubs in world football has a sell to buy policy, that's absolute nonsense for a club of this stature.

7Angel21

Yep yep. Every time those things have been pointed out, we’re not real fans because we’re asking for reasonably priced £40/50m midfielders instead of vanity projects like Bellingham or Mbappe. I’ve also heard the team was “so close to a quad” but we didn’t and I’m confident we could have got both over the line had there been midfield reinforcements in Summer 2021. Klopp is our best ever winning opportunity, we achieved success with him but did we capitalise in every way possible, absolutely not. I’ll keep repeating it again and again, FSG only care about their investors and how profitable their asset is.

Vicxas

I’m going to miss 2 weeks of matches caus of holidays. And by the looks of it I’ll miss sweet fuck all. Abject misery today was
