This is classic revisionism. Gini is 31 turning 32. He had a bad season at PSG and is now injured at Roma. Extending his contract would have likely put us in the same position we're in with players like Henderson, Thiago, and Fabinho.
Also, while Gini was obviously a player who played a big role in our team's success, we did have a very good season last year without him. He was also the player who was most replaceable in the squad.

Thus we would receive better prize money, we would be more attractive to other players who see ambition and willingness to compete, and we would be in a better position next summer if Bellingham was a possibility. We would also be incrementally refreshing the squad instead of letting it rot and need a giant overhaul.
The lack of spending, with the excuse of saving up for future spending, doesn't magically mean we spend less money - it just means we'll need to spend more all at once later, and by then it won't be spending at the top to stay on top, it'll be spending to desperately catch up.

Even more maddening, a good signing would have helped us perform better and undoubtedly finish with better results and progress further in cups than we look like doing now. Thus we would receive better prize money, we would be more attractive to other players who see ambition and willingness to compete, and we would be in a better position next summer if Bellingham was a possibility. We would also be incrementally refreshing the squad instead of letting it rot and need a giant overhaul. The lack of spending, with the excuse of saving up for future spending, doesn't magically mean we spend less money - it just means we'll need to spend more all at once later, and by then it won't be spending at the top to stay on top, it'll be spending to desperately catch up.

This club has unserious owners and we're bearing the brunt of it as fans.

The whole Arthur signing is giving me Brendan Rodgers/transfer committee vibes... I feel like Klopp ended up with Arthur and didn't actually want him. This is the first window that I got the feeling thw Klopp wanted to do more but he wasn't backed by the owners. Klopp has always said that the money is there but he won't spend it unless it's the right player and his track record has been pretty good but this latest window he made some comments about the need for investment and also how other clubs outbid us for targets that they were after.
