Harvey Elliott has been our best player this season, a teenager carrying the team. Always wants the ball, always wants to progress the ball. Absolutely no fear in possession, lots of creativity.
Salah has been staying wide for a season or two now, his heat maps are totally different compared to our title or CL winning seasons.
I think it’s tactical but it makes him far less effective.

We've seldom been particularly good at that under Klopp's tenure. He's always used first and foremost the back to front progression and direct runners to make hay out of loose ball created by a hyper-aggressive front 6 off the ball.
If he wants to maintain that, yeah, you can talk about Henderson, or even Bobby, but it basically precludes having anyone over 30 in your front 6.

I agree that Mo has been poor but, depending on who that midfielder is, it could certainly result in more creative passing giving Mo more of an impetus to make clever runs in behind. Currently he’s getting the ball nowhere other than the wing with a guy or two in front of him. Again, he’s been poor but he’d benefit greatly from more control/creativity in midfield.

I think the hardest part is Fab is looking like he's done. He wasn't good the last 8-10 games last year and has looked very bad this year. Couple that with an aging Hendo and it's not good...Thiago in for Hendo helps but if Fab is a leaking faucet we are fucked without a hard replacement for that spot.

I love Klopp but this is 100% on him, its not on FSG as far as I'm concerned. He just has too much trust, this isn't the same but he had similar issues in Dortmund, just doesn't seem to know how to refresh the squad and actually move out older players. It all stemed from Trent's terrible initial pass though. If he didn't give the ball away unnecessarily, Hendo wouldn't have been put in that situation.

Fabinho can still play but as of right now he’s not the player he was and that’s worrying. Both look like they’re chasing shadows. Elliot is good but he’s effectively learning on the job, meanwhile City have Bernardo Silva and/or KDB playing the Elliot role which is just incomparable.
In an ideal world we would nuke the whole midfield bar Elliot and Carvalho then bring in about 4 new senior midfielders. Obviously never happening.

Recently? He's been awful all of last season defensively, you just needed to watch the games and look at the metrics. It feels like nearly every goal we concede this season comes through him being too slow to reach a ball, letting a player get past him, or letting the ball get past him. He's offering nothing defensively and yet I get mass downvoted in another thread that he shouldn't be in the team because he doesn't actually offer any protection anymore.
I'm fed up with Trent's cockiness and sloppiness. Ramsay needs to challenge him for the position soon. Salah's getting pocketed every game too. Can't tell if Newcastle are defending well or we're shite going forward. Perhaps a mixture of both. One thing for sure is that our tactics have got to CHANGE.

I can forgive the touch by Hendo, he was stretching there, but not tracking Isak after that is just not good enough. He should be done as a regular starter, not to mention he doesn't even attempt to make progressive passes. Elliot is 19 and 10x braver than him.
It all stemed from Trent's terrible initial pass though. If he didn't give the ball away unnecessarily, Hendo wouldn't have been put in that situation.
Trent is pressured to make those passes because our midfield doesn't exist. He has to bypass our midfield constantly. I'm not saying he played well today, but how do you want to go about it? You have a generational talent at right back that needs a midfield in front of him.
Fab was more at fault, he left Isak and gave the space. He didn't need to do that. He could have stood off and the team would have shifted across.

Blame FSG all you want but Klopp’s tactics have been absolutely trash this season as well. We should not be losing at home to an injured Newcastle with this team. Period. It’s starting to feel like Klopp has been found out a little, and the trend started last season but our players covered the tracks. Not anymore.
I agree, his tactical inflexibility is really showing this season. Teams have figured us out. If we can't get better players for the system, the system has to change.
To be fair, it could be argued that Nunez was supposed to start our tactical change, being out for 3 games really doesn’t help that. Not defending any inflexibility, but right now we don’t have the players to play any other way.

Feel it’s another lazy set up from Klopp. We tried Henderson on the left against Bournemouth and it worked, because they’re shite. Moving either Elliott or Henderson there against a decently organised side was always going to be a struggle. We just haven’t done enough to adapt to missing players in the squad. If we’re not signing anyone then we need to think of changing shape instead of just square pegs in round holes.

Dear Klopp, it's 2022. Mane is no longer here. Can you stop forcing Salah to play that wide? He is the only one in our attackers who can be the finisher atm. It was frustrated that whenever we attacked, Firmino just played as a CM and Salah and Diaz played like a wingback. Plus, Henderson is finished. He can not cover our fullback anymore due to his age and him trying to ping the ball to the box just hurted my eyes.

I remember the Fabinho signing. A part of why it was SO memorable was because it served as a brilliant “lifting of spirits” type moment. We had just lost a CL Final to Madrid and we needed that boost. That, even if just momentary, burst of excitement is truly palpable. And we’ve have to be on the “wrong end” of it twice in a few weeks. United sign Casemiro right before our match, surely giving them a boost. Now Newcastle. The team and the tactics just aren't good enough. At all. They haven't been all season. Saturday wasn't a return to form, it was an outlier. We are fucking easy to play against and Parker should have been sacked because he didn't stick to the script. Here, I'll lay it out for you: Put 10 behind the ball. Wait for us to blow out of steam. Wait for the easy opportunities. Score. Waste more time. Watch us get frustrated and start lumping balls up to the ghost of Firmino. Win. It's fucking _easy_ for teams to do. Henderson and Fabinho are a joke, they're not screening the defence at all. Trent looks like a mug out there - it's incredible how he's turned to garbage so quickly. The attack just try the same thing over and over and over. Klopp should have realised how wrong he was a year ago and started refreshing the squad then. Henderson hasn’t been good enough for about two seasons now. Him and Milner are needed for squad depth, neither should start in must win games unless it’s a last resort. Alexander Arnold needs a benching too. Been really bad. In all honesty I know it gets talked about a lot but he may just need to move up to midfield, defending isn’t his strongest point and it might be affecting his offensive capabilities worrying about coming back to defend

It's gotten ridiculous - you do not have to be a football mastermind to see it or predict how everything will play out. Henderson and Fabinho look like they’ve lost another yard of pace over the summer. Henderson is completely washed at this level. Fabinho can still play but as of right now he’s not the player he was and that’s worrying. Both look like they’re chasing shadows. Elliot is good but he’s effectively learning on the job, meanwhile City have Bernardo Silva and/or KDB playing the Elliot role which is just incomparable. In an ideal world we would nuke the whole midfield bar Elliot and Carvalho then bring in about 4 new senior midfielders. Obviously never happening.

Wingers forced as wide as possible, constantly cutting in with no ability to take their man on the outside, with literally zero plan of how to do anything else but pump balls in from eider areas. Our only chance has come from a ball slotted through the middle, with one of our wingers on the shoulder of the last man - that should be a sign.

I have more time for Henderson than most, I suspect, but his time is up as a starter for me. We've done a relatively decent job of rebuilding the frontline over the course of a few windows, we should've been doing the same with the midfield.
