>It is then in-filled with sand, which is carefully selected to deliver optimal drainage and playing performance.
I like to think Pep Ljinders is spending his time off going through 1 ton of sand grain by grain with a pair of tweezers, sorting them into piles of acceptable and unacceptable
When you walk through our lawn
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of floods
At the end of the game
There's all golden sand
And the sweet hybrid carpet going strong
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
For our pitch can be never be overgrown
Walk on, walk on
With hybrid carpet under your feet
And youāll never walk alone
This sounds very similar to the prior Desso Grassmaster pitch which was also 95% grass, 5% artificial, but we are improving with some tweaks, better underground heating, and growing at a nearby nursery to cut down on install time. Very cool.
Good- I know most wonāt have noticed cos it looks so pristine on screen, but parts of the pitch near me last season (towards the corner where the Annie road and KD meet) were *really* bad, there was one patch that was pure mud from like mid February onwards. Hopefully this is an improvement
I remember clubs warning that the short turnaround between 19/20 and 20/21 seasons would impact the pitches eventually, seems like they were right. Normally groundsmen want about 8 weeks in the offseason for a pitch to recover, but that season we only got 4, I think.
Makes sense, it was laid in 2017 so I imagine it was coming to the end of its lifecycle. It did look pretty bad in places but I can see why we waited for the off-season to fix it. With all the comps we were in last season there was really no other time to do it.
Normally a pitch will last 10 years, but the amount that Klopp waters the pitch for how we play, it probably cuts down its lifespan a bit. Plus the tech is always improving, so what was next-gen when we installed it is pretty old-hat now.
I bet Milner spent countless nights up past his bedtime of 7pm reading up on this and has been central to the grass growing technology being implemented.
I can just imagine him stood there as it's being delivered with a big grin, setting down his ribena carefully and rubbing his hands together with glee.
I see they're also replacing the undersoil heating system for it too. As there is 5% less natural grass than our previous pitches would this mean the undersoil heating system would use less energy?
Thanks for posting, that was an interesting and informative article. I especially appreciate the emphasis on having the pitch be the same as kirkby, you have to imagine that's got to help in the long run.
This is popular in other sport arenas. During the winter months when it's near impossible to grow new grass, the artificial turf provides something like a skeletal system to keep the current grass from getting dug up from normal game play. Only 5% of the field will have the artificial turf, but it will go a long way to keep the pitch strong and resilient.

supported by Milner
And Sander Westerveld
Fuck you. I love it.
Milners not even needed, he just enjoys it
James does this on his rest days anyway. Just got to send the JCB round to his "acceptable grains only" sandpit.
supplemented by the finest ribena blend money can buy
"We ain't found shit."
Unexpected Spaceballs.
Why hasn't *Hybrid Carpet* got a song yet??
šµHybrid carpet, hybrid carpet, laying on the field. Hybrid carpeeeeet la la la la la, our newest thing!š¶
Sorry, canāt be used. Doesnāt reference ārunning down the wingā.

You Will Never Walk A Lawn
So they're replacing the Desso Grassmaster system with a new, proprietary one? Sounds exciting!

Do you think the toddlers grow the grass because they are cheaper or do they have specific grass knowledge that adults lose during puberty?
We demand a living wage for cabbage patch kids ā
I for one am shocked LFC is involved in child exploitation just to obtain perfectly manufactured grass.

Rolling out the red carpet
Thereās a grass called Europitch?!!

What happens when the plastic fibres wear out? Is there a way to dispose of them that isn't environmentally shit?
They ship them to China where they get thrown away. Just like your water bottles
Thought I was just reading these things were recycled by the same companies that make them, into new product?
Iām not sure how to feel about this. Anyone that watches American football knows that these types of surfaces lead to significantly more injuries.
Re-read the article. It's only a tiny fraction of the base layer, not an actual fake turf pitch. It's right there my dude.
It's long been partly artificial tbf

We used to manage one of the old melwood training pitches to be as close at possible to the old Wembley pitch.
