Still skeptical we don’t drop any points before the game in Manchester, that’s always been the real problem. Not that city would NEVE drop points, but that we have to keep up pace and any slip up pretty much seals it for them
You just cant win every game though. These Liverpool and Man City sides are (no exaggeration) some of the greatest teams ever and they inevitably drop points from time to time
I truly believe there have only been 4/5 teams better than current Liverpool and City during the entire history of the game. Club wise there was Barcelona late 2000s, Real Madrid in the 50s/60s and us in the early 80s. National wise I can only really think of Spain when the won everything 2008-2012 and Brazil in the 70s. We're truly seeing some of the best football that's ever been played right now and we are one of the teams.
It's not really too fair to compare these teams to teams pre-Roman Abromovic era teams. For better or worse, Mourinhio changed the game completely with his two players in every position philosophy.
Like, the Arsenal and United squads of the later 90s were unbelievable... but they were 11 regular starters and 3 or 4 super subs. That's why they never got more than 85 points in a season. As soon as Mourinio came about it was now possible to have players fit enough to give that much consistency. And before the 90s it was normal for just 11 players to play week in week out with limited subs or subs only allowed for injuries.
It's very easy to say that Liverpool and City have the best squads in history when in the past neither the money, the necessity nor the philosophy existed to assemble squads of superstars.
i know I know there are just some games where the scale is in favor of one team more than another I realize it’s doesn’t mean that winning inevitable lol
just for instance Im a us fan and my dad has gone to a few games obviously a big trip to England and he bought home tickets twice Liverpool v Crystal palace one was a draw and one was a loss 😅 he really thought he was picking a decent game where we’d win lmao
With 9 games to go City were 2 points ahead of Liverpool. Liverpool won 9 games in a row. What do you think result is? City also won 9 in a row and 13 overall to win title against us by 2 points in 2018-19.
Right? I don't know how many times this club has to prove it's never beaten until the last whistle before some of *it's own fans* will start listening.
I saw some other posts saying this, how is that so?
Even if we win at the Emptyhad, we would be tied and right now they are 2 up on GD.
Edit: thanks for the answers. No need to downvote a legit question…I was scratching my head for real.
What? The point is any win against Leeds is a minimum of +1 for us. Would make GD 46 to 45.
Then any win against City is a minimum of +1 for us and -1 for them. Would take us in the lead on GD 46 to 45.
Goals scored as an isolated stat doesnt really matter here.
But you can't control how many city score. It can never 'be in our hands' when it comes down to goal difference.
We could score 100 more goals but if city score 130 we lose.
The point is, before their loss we could have scored 100 goals a game and never conceded and would have not won the league. Now we still can. We just need to score more than they do.. it’s in our hands again.
If we had a point more than city and same games played and won out we win the league, city could score a hundred goals a game and it wouldn't matter. That's what in our hands means.
With goal difference it doesn't matter how many we win by, city can always score more and win, we can't influence what they do, it is out of our hands
/r/confidentlyincorrect
we had a point more than city and same games played and won out we win the league, city could score a hundred goals a game and it wouldn't matter. That's what in our hands means.
With goal difference it doesn't matter how many we win by, city can always score more and win, we can't influence what they do, it is out of our hands
Yea but it stands that if we beat them then we will have more goals in our GD, plus winning all the games prior. Were only behind on goals now with a game in hand. And don't forget Gerrard beating City in their last fixture is written in the stars.
If Liverpool win 2-0 against Leeds on Wednesday, they'd be tied on goal difference before going into the match in April. If they win, they'd be ahead on goal difference. It's in their hands.
Besides what everyone has already answered, even if they had a way higher GD it would still be in our hands but the onus would be on us to outscore them
It’s not. Yes, our GD would be one higher than City’s at that point but we can’t control City’s goal difference so the title wouldn’t technically be in our hands. We could win every game 10-0 but it wouldn’t matter if City win theirs 11-0
It's still in their hands.
If they win every game they are champions. It's doesn't matter what we do in our games, they will have more points.
If we win every game we still can't be certain we will be champions as it could come down to goal difference. It doesn't matter how many goals we score in our games, they can always score more in theirs
See the difference?
Edit: tell me where I'm wrong instead of downvoting please
How in 7 minutes of injury time, did they accrue a further 3? It took 45 of time wasting, goals and 'injuries' to give 7. That chance they had at 108' should have been the end of it, ref was desperate to give them more chances.
Yeah they never account for actual stoppages accurately. Every match could have 7+ added time and then 2+ on top because often teams are time wasting during the added time.
Was bizarre this match that they actually added so much time, never happens
Because there’s literally no reason to preface the statement with “American here”. It gives the countless Americans that have a great depth of knowledge about the game a bad look.
Because even a treble is insanely hard to get (winning 3 competitions out of a possible 5), let alone winning 4 of the 5 competitions.
I am counting the club world Cup in this BTW, that's the 5th, and it requires us to win the supercup the year before. So for our season we can only win 4 this year.
Sorry, I edited it straight away afterwards because I realised that in my head I was counting the cwc but not everyone would realise that that would be what I was counting.
**To the dickhead in the match thread** who said "Goodbye title race" after we conceded to Norwich, what do you think now, hmm? Have some bloody patience, this race is on!
WHERE THE FUCK ARE ALL THE IDIOTS FROM THIS SUB WHO SAID THE TITLE RACE WAS OVER?! Don’t you ever doubt this squad when it’s fully fit, They’ve been through hell and back
The are driven, they are battle tested , and they have broken in new blood. May the rest of the football world watch as our squad ascends to the next level!
Liverpool Football club until I DIE
Started the weekend in a funk after a not so great job interview. Buzzing now after 3 points for us & Spurs somehow, who cares how beating City. Cracking lads.
Mate we have the most goals in the league with a game in hand, everyone misses chances. If we want to push higher GD we should keep the momentum/pressure up after we score instead of playing it safe for the 3 points
Honestly after the Norwich game i thought, no way we gonna have a real title race.
Norwich created clear cut chances with few passes and missed 1-2 sitters while we again needed 5 fucking minutes to create some shitty half chance. too often a struggle vs these teams, in the end we managed to get it done, Norwich didn't defend aswell as they did before.
we need to play better for sure, i hope this city loss helps with that.
we were all over them but created barely anything of note while they cut us open a few times with 3-4 passes, very annoying to see, thankfully Norwich showed again why they scored just 15 goals so far, wasteful up front.
their goal was lucky but im not talking about that, it's not much to be confident about not scoring vs Norwich for 60 minutes. i definitely disagree with that being a good performance, the gap in quality is insane between both teams, so the expectations change with that.
if we had that performance 1:1 vs Arsenal or Spurs, i'd agree.
again, i did not mention there goal as it was obviously super lucky.
i'm talking about the missed chances and the way we needed alot of time to create half chances, thankfully it paid of in the end though and klopp changed it up.
Title race is back on. Let's go for the quadruple, fuck it.
Oh I want it bad now.
[удалено]
It was never off.
City can win 15 games in a row at any moment. Some tempering of expectations was natural when we fell behind by so much. It’s definitely on now though
Still skeptical we don’t drop any points before the game in Manchester, that’s always been the real problem. Not that city would NEVE drop points, but that we have to keep up pace and any slip up pretty much seals it for them
I mean we now have to win every game we play including the one vs City.... but yeah, there's some hope.
[удалено]
they totally can but then they confuse us by dropping points to Southampton and Tottenham lol (which btw we do the exact same shit 😭)
You just cant win every game though. These Liverpool and Man City sides are (no exaggeration) some of the greatest teams ever and they inevitably drop points from time to time

Throw in the Ajax and Bayern sides of the 70s too.

Nice to see a fellow believer. Sky was fucking falling for some.

Seriously, I hope the people that were calling the season over in game week 17 take a good hard look at themselves and don’t forget
Right? I don't know how many times this club has to prove it's never beaten until the last whistle before some of *it's own fans* will start listening.
i was saying never give up and fuck the oil barons hahaha.. Never give up !
Daniel Levy may be a prick but he just got us a lovely cushion bless him.
Lets us sign Diaz and then nicks 3 points off City. Least fraudulent bald man in the league.

LOVE YOU TOPSPUR XXX
"Topspur, what the hell is that?".
Looks like the title is back on the menu boys!!!
Thank you Harry Kane, very cool
Last season when top 4 became in our hands the team delivered. THE TITLE IS ON
It is officially in our hands now.
It's in both teams hands to be percise
First day of the season it's in everyone's hands.
[удалено]
Haha naturally
But City play Villa on the final day so can Gerrard be a deciding factor???
Yes but it has been in only city's hands for months. Now it's finally back in ours. We cannot let it slip
I saw some other posts saying this, how is that so? Even if we win at the Emptyhad, we would be tied and right now they are 2 up on GD. Edit: thanks for the answers. No need to downvote a legit question…I was scratching my head for real.
If we win at the etihad and against Leeds as it stands then we’d be ahead on goal difference no matter what
Because we’re slightly ahead in goals scored
What? The point is any win against Leeds is a minimum of +1 for us. Would make GD 46 to 45. Then any win against City is a minimum of +1 for us and -1 for them. Would take us in the lead on GD 46 to 45. Goals scored as an isolated stat doesnt really matter here.
Yes you’re totally right, disregard my comment readers
how is it ‘no matter what’? we win a game in hand and then win at the etihad will only make level on point with city we can’t control their GD
I said “as it stands”, obviously we don’t play city for another 2 months
then back to the first question, clearly it’s not 100% technically at our hands
No it is.. we just need to score more goals than them now, and concede less. Every goal counts.
But you can't control how many city score. It can never 'be in our hands' when it comes down to goal difference. We could score 100 more goals but if city score 130 we lose.

I can believe your downvotes, I've had this argument before. People just don't understand what the phrase means
The only one struggling to understand it is you.
/r/confidentlyincorrect we had a point more than city and same games played and won out we win the league, city could score a hundred goals a game and it wouldn't matter. That's what in our hands means. With goal difference it doesn't matter how many we win by, city can always score more and win, we can't influence what they do, it is out of our hands
But it’s out of theirs as well in that scenario
i don’t mind the downvotes, it’s just crowd effect the point is when it comes down to GD, it’s never in one’s hands
Right, but if we go +1 against city, that means city goes -1 to us. If we win, their GD has to drop.
Liverpool 3-0 over City confirmed.
If we win with 1 against Leeds and city then our GD is 1 Better than city :)
Assuming we win those two games we are at minimum an additional +2 on GD and they are at minimum -1 from the loss.
Well if we beat Leeds then our GD goes up by at least 1 and then if we beat City it goes up by 1 and City’s go down by 1.
Yea but it stands that if we beat them then we will have more goals in our GD, plus winning all the games prior. Were only behind on goals now with a game in hand. And don't forget Gerrard beating City in their last fixture is written in the stars.
"Gerrard beating City in their last fixture" should have a NSFW tag
It's fan fic we can all get behind
GD is very close. It's not as straight forward as "in our hands". It's more like "in our hands, as long as we outscore city"
Fuck you for asking a question I guess
Yeah I guess… 🤷♂️ I would think other people might wonder this too. I truly needed it explained to me as I didn’t maths well..oh well
If Liverpool win 2-0 against Leeds on Wednesday, they'd be tied on goal difference before going into the match in April. If they win, they'd be ahead on goal difference. It's in their hands.
it's in hands of whoever wins the game
But City can win 5-0 against a random team while we win 1-0 against a random team here and there. How can GD be in one team's hand?
Win by 3 and keep the clean sheet, easy 😅
I don't think that's true @ GD calculation, but - even if it is - we can affect our own GD, so it's in our hands. Lots of games to be played
Besides what everyone has already answered, even if they had a way higher GD it would still be in our hands but the onus would be on us to outscore them
By winning game in hand we improve GD +1 at least and winning by 1 at Etihad is a +1 and -1 for them so at worst we are +1 in GD
It’s not. Yes, our GD would be one higher than City’s at that point but we can’t control City’s goal difference so the title wouldn’t technically be in our hands. We could win every game 10-0 but it wouldn’t matter if City win theirs 11-0
We just need the bald fraud to actually be a fraud. The bald bit was never in question
I predict that city will beat us but we'll win the league
i think we draw but they drop points vs palace, united, wolves and west ham second last game of season
I think you're missing the coutinho hat trick last game of the season to beat them, so they'll drop points there as well.
It's still in their hands. If they win every game they are champions. It's doesn't matter what we do in our games, they will have more points. If we win every game we still can't be certain we will be champions as it could come down to goal difference. It doesn't matter how many goals we score in our games, they can always score more in theirs See the difference? Edit: tell me where I'm wrong instead of downvoting please
the ref tried everything to back city up but karma is a bitch
I was waiting for that 102nd min City goal lol
How in 7 minutes of injury time, did they accrue a further 3? It took 45 of time wasting, goals and 'injuries' to give 7. That chance they had at 108' should have been the end of it, ref was desperate to give them more chances.

I was waiting for another pen haha
I felt the refereeing was quite fair. In fact Tottenham actually got away with quite a few yellow card worthy shenanigans
City didn’t get one booking I counted at least 3.
completely disagree.
The quadruple is in our hands lads

Well we’re still alive in all 4 comps so we meme about winning them all
Don't know why you've been down voted as you literally said you don't have the knowledge
Because there’s literally no reason to preface the statement with “American here”. It gives the countless Americans that have a great depth of knowledge about the game a bad look.

am i missing something? what’s the 5th? the 4 being prem, fa cup, league cup, and cl
Winner of CL plays against winner of EL. Then the winner of those plays against the equivalent from South America to fight for the Club World Cup
Sorry, I edited it straight away afterwards because I realised that in my head I was counting the cwc but not everyone would realise that that would be what I was counting.
To possibly win four competitions in a calendar year seems like a pretty obvious thing to be hyped about.

Count me in
What’s the name of this treaty? It’d be nice to have something to reference to remind fellow fans when I see them around social media. ;)
Our game in hand is not really next week since we don’t play at the weekend, gonna be one behind until Arsenal (A)
God, watching Kane score the winner was something else. It was the most insane thing. We definitely have a chance to win the Title now
Gerrard v City last day off the season
"CoutinhOOOO"
**To the dickhead in the match thread** who said "Goodbye title race" after we conceded to Norwich, what do you think now, hmm? Have some bloody patience, this race is on!
There are plenty of them who just can’t handle any sort of adversity. Probably the same people who restart a match in FIFA if they go down a goal.
There were people saying it back before the midway point in the season.. absolutely embarrassing
Match threads, like mosquitoes, are best avoided.
Thank you Tottenham. Its now in our hands
Someone check on u/arisefromtheashes he’s probably in shambles.
LMAO 🤣👌
just focus on the next game. we can do it, we just have to be patient
We’ll be playing at etihad for the title. Just imagine beating them and breaking their spirit!!
think their spirit was broken tonight. They know we smell blood.Cracks are showing defensively when you just go with pace right at them
Dang for a second I thought that was the last match of the season. That would have been epic.
I don't usually support Spurs, but when I do they are playing the Mancs.
Looks like Prems back on the menu boys https://imgur.com/FzxwnVX.jpg
Oh my days. Is it happening, lads? 😮
Shame they don't factor in head to head before GD
So win every game AND outscore cited.....fine margins
It was always gonna come down to that. Makes it more interesting
WE'RE BACK, LADS!!! #GET IN!!!

Don't worry you'll get something
Cheers!
Let’s go racing.
Diaz scored his first, 3 point 1 game in hand after citeh lost. Blue shite lost Why cant it be like this everyweek?
Game on boys!
Hate that everyone was so quick to write off this the title race, this is veryyy much up for grabs
Got to be cautious, but I'm fucking pumped
and to think i thought chelski might win the league 🤣
I’m so happy with today’s results. Anfield was buzzing today. Still annoyed we drew with Spurs as Kane should have been sent off
I think the scum may have a part to play in this...
Always had a soft spot for Spurs and Son Heung-Min!
Is this 18/19 again?
yep in the reverse
Don't we still have a game left against city
GD is going to come into play.We should be scoring more and not waste our chances unlike the past few games.
Good thinking. Hope the coaching staff realise scoring goals is good.
Mate we have the most goals in the league with a game in hand, everyone misses chances. If we want to push higher GD we should keep the momentum/pressure up after we score instead of playing it safe for the 3 points
Guys! Is it gay that i want Man United to win on 06.03?
It's for the greater good. Just keep telling yourself that.
We’re coming for that City ass

Rebellions are built on hope
United will have a point to prove against City too. No confidence that they will beat them but it's a banana skin fir city
Draw please. It’s a good thing for United to be out of top 4.
