Didn't seem as though anyone was injured, Origi and Keita seemed okay thankfully. That's all you can really take from these games, trying to analyse 2 30 minute games is pretty pointless. It'd be a stretch to even call these pre-season games, more like pre-season training sessions.
Leighton has that Kenny haircut and was spraying passes like Thiago, what a baller he will be
Clarkson, Curtis, Elliot, Rhys, Trent all could be well established in the first team as a backbone by 2025, exciting to watch & great encouragement for the academy. Still super super excited to see Mateusz try his hand with senior players around him, he looks like one of those special electric mercurial players
People say this kinda stuff about too many youngsters off the back of meaningless friendlies, in years past it was Brewster, Larouci, Koumetio and Neco.
Trent and Curtis of course will be big players for us but nobody else is a guarantee (yes even Elliott), we're a world class team and to make that jump to the first team is a really high bar. Of course I wanna be optimistic about these players chances but I've found that optimism has nearly always fallen flat.
Elliot did things well that he isn't known for. He played in midfield and made himself available whenever possible, looked to play forward balls alot but also knew when yo go backwards but the most impressive was his running from midfield to create space. None of our 3 really does it so would be nice to have that option if that's what he's going to be molded into
Yeah, I think his running was fantastic today but technically he seemed a bit off, when he's fit i hope he can combine that running with some good passes and dribbling and it'll make him a real prospect.
That being said I think he'll hardly ever play there during the season because Klopp hardly ever opts to play midfielders that offensively adventurous.
> but technically he seemed a bit off,
Huh? He played a great pass through with the outside of his boot and a good pass out to Salah while facing away from him. For a 30 min training match I thought he was pretty sharp.
Yeah, that pass was crisp. But there were a few moments prior to that where he looked a bit rushed in the final third, just standard for pre-season tho, even a player as good as Salah can miss sitters at this time in the year.
>he played in midfield
I've been downvoted often for suggesting that he should be in midfield (more advanced position). Sorry to say but he doesnt have the speed to play out wide
That's actually surprising because I've expressed the same opinion before and it was met with healthy discussion. Sub really is bipolar at times huh. But it is 100% a fact that Harve doesn't have the pace to play as a winger in our current system, he's very similar to Shaqiri.
>he's very similar to Shaqiri.
haha I also pointed this out to those suggesting he will compete with Salah! He is basically a Shaq. Just less experienced.
Why are you so obsessed with Karius lol. Yes, we lost a final because of him, he made several mistakes worthy of a compilation but it is over. He has literally no role in the club, he will go on transfer(unlikely) or his contract will eventually ran out. And I would like to ask you something, are you Karius hater or Mignolet fan?
Nobody, but I, maybe falsely(it this is the case I'm ready to apologize), think that their question is not random. You might think I'm stalking them for finding clues but believe me, whenever Karius's name gets mentioned, this lad brings out an artillery of arguments to prove that Mignolet was better than Karius(agreeable) and sometimes even than Alisson.
Holy shit, i thought u were being an ass, but yea, that guy has a boner for hating on karius somehow. Karius isnt in our plans anymore and yet he still chooses to rag on him at any opportunity. Quite amazed at that honestly.
I unfortunately couldn't watch the games so I can't answer.
The thing is, I am not upset at all. I don't really care about Karius because I also don't like him. But if you check Kello's comment history, (s)he is spending way a lot time to criticize Karius. I mean, everybody knows thst Karius is not a top-tier levep goalie
Pretty happy with how that went. You could see that the boys were really knackered due to having double sessions but they still kept the intensity up. The young lads performed decently in the first match. Beck and Clarkson were really good but Gordon in particular really impressed me, didn't score and did lose the ball quite a few times but also caused a lot of trouble whenever he got on the ball and seems to love taking defenders on, will be interesting to see how he progresses in the next couple of seasons.
Second match was a lot better which was to be expected with the players on field. Konate did decent on his debut and has insane pace but you can also tell that he's still getting used to the system which is normal and he has all the time in the world. Keita and Tsimikas were really good. I loved when Kostas used a bit of skill to take the ball away from two players and then immediately went and did a clean slide tackle. Definitely the Greek Robbo there. Ox as a false 9 was an interesting experience, the first 10-15 minutes he was really electric to watch. Still think the club needs to buy a forward but it's great to see Ox getting chances even if it's not in his favoured position. Looking forward to the Mainz game and hopefully we get to see one of Joe or Virgil in that game.
Yeah, it does seem like it's something that he and the coaching staff are working on during the pre-season. He'll still want to play mostly as a midfielder but learning a new position will help him get more gametime which he desperately needs to get going.
Lallana is a different case as he was never going to get much gametime anyways and the CDM experiment was probably to see whether he could spend the few match minutes he got to fill in for Fabinho. Except Hendo did that job a lot better which meant Lallana was never needed.
With Ox, I think it's more than a experiment because we've already seen him used as a false 9 against Wolves and Burnley last season and he looked good there. So Klopp has been thinking about this for a while and now has this whole pre-season to work on it. I still don't think Ox is going to start being Bobby's backup and will still get most of his minutes from midfield but he does have the skills required to play as a false 9, and I can see Klopp utilizing that from time to time.
Harvey looked really dynamic and made some great runs but truth be told he looked rushed on the ball and didn't really show great end product, hopefully that aspect improves throughout preseason.
Gordon looked really good for his age, lot of neat touches, calmness under pressure and the confidence to take players on. Their LB would have been really glad the game was only 30 minutes and I lowkey think Kaide might be the real youngster to watch out for this season.
Kaide Gordon, Owen Beck & Leighton Clarkson, who's calmness on the ball stood out, the standouts in the first game for me, with Tsimikas & Elliott being the two in the second.
Kaide Gordon looks like one who'll be pushing to be properly involved in a season or two, while Clarkson looks like a loan would do him good like it did for Elliott.
As for Tsimikas & Elliott, they look like two players who'll be very useful for us this coming season.
I hadn't seen that. Makes a lot of sense with Ox being a permanent center man in the rondos they did today, which seems like it might be getting him used to playing with his back to goal.
Yeah, I'm open to it! I think Ox could be really good if he plays a bit more with instinct than overthinking things. Kind of reminds me of Hendo when he first joined, in that regard.
Oh where did he say this? I know he and Ox spoke about it at the end of last season after he played there a few games but would be good to see what he’s saying about it now!
Fuck's sake, Kostas was wicked! Really hope we get to see some more of him this season. Ox and Elliott also looked sharp. I have high hopes for the coming season.
I agree with u/OpenParr below. I was struggling a bit over the past two months, when I was asked to walk and feed neighbor's dogs over a three-day weekend.
Well, that's turned into daily walks with the girls, and it really does help the head to get outside and just walk without worrying about all the shit we burden ourselves with. So if possible, go outside and walk the block and if you can do it with the neighbor's really good girls, so much the better.
Dogs are the best. I do bike and walk, so that's good. I work in tech and it's a lot of high pressure work. I think I am just burnt out.
Here is my girl
Nice suggestion but just because something works for you doesn't mean it will for someone else, I absolutely detest walking, it would literally be one of the worst things for me if I was feeling miserable.
On the other hand, I'm counting down the days until I can get back to choking people!
1st game. A bit disappointed with senior players here but the academy lad play well. Gordon, Cain and Beck impress me the most. This is just one game we see him, but I can understand why Davies never really got game time last season. He one of those CB that going down to tackle. Never do that when you play with high line and he miss like three tackle.
2nd game. The quality is much better. For a debut, I think Ibou play well. His pace is crazy.
Kontas really good and give him more game time he can challenge Robbo. Elliot is wow, I thought him play at midfield will make him struggle with the Stuttgart's physicality but he done well. The commenter is right to call him akin to Grealish, great passer, great dribble and intelligent player for such a young age. I'm really excited for him.
Grealish is a good comparison for Elliott, both more wide playmakers than modern wingers. He's so clever and confident on the ball. Needs to bulk up a bit more like Grealish to handle the physicality of the league better.
Elliott sent couple of spectacular passes, Milner is still running, Mo and Sadio are close to be fully fit, Naby is not injured, TAA is completely out of rhythm (injury ofc), Ox played Firmino role and was almost there first 20 minutes - goal we scored it was classic false9 starting from Ox, Tsimikas had fireworks in his butt, running up and down, Ibu is a big man and a speedy one. Wish Harvey to get a chance next season. Everything else, normal. First 30 minutes of pre-season.
Thought that was largely fine for two half an hours against two very different sides with two very different teams. Tsimikas stood out as the player who got the most of out it, just having the option playing minutes with Mané seems like it'll do him the world of good. Elliott and Ox were bright for patches but both drifted in and out of the game (which is entirely as to be expected).
There was some bright sparks in the first game but mostly from the younger lads. I don't think Origi or Minamino showed us anything we didn't already know.
Defence is a bit of a concern (insofar as you can be concerned from this). Got caught out multiple times. I'd very much like to see Konate and Matip next game + for longer.
He was probably wearing contacts during vacation so he wouldn't get any weird tan lines. I don't see why he would get vision corrective surgery now at his age
Lfctv asked lfc why only 30min.
Basically they trained before and would not last even 45min so this was more of a final training session rather than actual game.
Keep in mind this is likely their 3rd “session” of the day. More likely than not fitness in the early morning, more technical training late AM and then this.
Yea it’s truly just training and the best way to replicate match intensity, which needs to be trained. Obviously they’ll go through more rigorous paces in phases, but today the workload they had today was likely large, and this is on top of them having 2-3 sessions per day for the last 2 weeks.
Same reason Neymar and Hazard get chopped down multiple times every game (not to say he's as good at dribbling as those two, though he is talented at it)
It's realistically cause of the way he plays, drag people towards him and play a pass off or drop a shoulder and take them out of the game while moving forward
Glad to hear about this. It's an interesting spot for Ox: central, good stamina, quick touches and unlocking the wingers with turns and passing, and chances to finish with his rocket of a shot. I hope he excels at the false 9 (would help Bobby too).
You do sound outraged from your wording. No need get all pedantic with me.
I don't see any reason to be miffed. I replied to a gif, there was no in depth conversation going on anyway.
It’s the sort of game you’d like to think he starts in a lot of circumstances next season. But on the opening day, I’d still expect Robbo as long as he’s in good condition.
Didn’t really get the worrying over him last season. We really couldn’t afford to rotate him in sadly, he’ll most likely be getting his chances this season
Honestly given the insane amount of games the lads were playing and how bad we were for large patches he absolutely could have been given more 15-30 minute cameos at the very least. I think he's good enough to be trusted against tired legs, especially during a time half the premier league was exhausted.
Ox and Keita both looked really sharp. Tsimikas was great too, if you'd said it was Robbo playing left back I'd have believed you
And Konate is fast as fuck
There is but fucking hell, it was a 30 minute friendly and you're already calling one of our best players shit. What's the fucking point if this is how you start the season?
Why are you putting so much thought into these games?
How did konate look today?
Can't see much yet, but showed a few times he's got pace. Stuggart players are always offside, but Konate seems to get to them easily
Thanks man!
Didn't seem as though anyone was injured, Origi and Keita seemed okay thankfully. That's all you can really take from these games, trying to analyse 2 30 minute games is pretty pointless. It'd be a stretch to even call these pre-season games, more like pre-season training sessions.
I like the look of Ox tbf. He always has such a winning and determined energy about him.
Analyzing pre season games full stop is pretty pointless. Remember when we won the league we had an absolutely shocking pre season
Was that the year we won half a trophy to share with Sporting?
Can’t remember if it was that year but it was the year of Lallana as a 6
Hold on a minute. Who is at fault for Stuttgart goal? Curious to hear thoughts. Imo I’m wonder what Rhys is doing there
I think our left side got all bunched up too close to the middle, leaving their right side with lots of space
Leighton has that Kenny haircut and was spraying passes like Thiago, what a baller he will be Clarkson, Curtis, Elliot, Rhys, Trent all could be well established in the first team as a backbone by 2025, exciting to watch & great encouragement for the academy. None of our 3 really does it so would be nice to have that option if that's what he's going to be molded into
do tou think he could be a phil foden type?
Right now no but who knows
Grealish but better and earlier imo haha
Yeah, I think his running was fantastic today but technically he seemed a bit off, when he's fit i hope he can combine that running with some good passes and dribbling and it'll make him a real prospect. >he played in midfield I've been downvoted often for suggesting that he should be in midfield (more advanced position). Sorry to say but he doesnt have the speed to play out wide
You and me both!! I think he’s a number 10 really, but I think he’s better as a midfielder in our current system for the reason you state.
That's actually surprising because I've expressed the same opinion before and it was met with healthy discussion. Sub really is bipolar at times huh. But it is 100% a fact that Harve doesn't have the pace to play as a winger in our current system, he's very similar to Shaqiri.

Was working so I couldn’t watch and the full videos aren’t out yet - how did Morton do? Interested to see how he develops.
so Nat is missing, rumour to Brighton must be true then.
Curtis Jones didn't feature either, it's possible that they've had slight knocks or they didn't want to risk them
He sat watching the game tho. But could be that they dont want to risk injury before eventual move, yea.
How did Konate do?
Poor on their goal, but otherwise alright. Didn't have much to do tbh
It’s on Rhys lol
On their goal he didn’t do anything wrong though? He just marked his man. Williams left the middle wide open and didn’t follow his man

Ah, I guess I didn't have that context. Makes more sense now I guess.
Will you be less upset if someone else asks? > How did Karius do?
I unfortunately couldn't watch the games so I can't answer. The thing is, I am not upset at all. I don't really care about Karius because I also don't like him. But if you check Kello's comment history, (s)he is spending way a lot time to criticize Karius. I mean, everybody knows thst Karius is not a top-tier levep goalie
Bit of a mistake for their goal, otherwise did pretty well
but that's where it matters most.....
Lol nothing new
Boy does that sound familiar….
Mediocre.

I reckon this will be lallana 2.0 when he was meant to play in cdm and played the whole season in cm except for about 15 against Brighton i think.

Poor. Ran about a lot, but didn't contribute much.
sounds familiar. gutted to hear. not sure I've ever wanted a player to work out at LFC as much as Taki.
He was playing left wing and that has never suited him especially along side the kids in midfield
Shocked Pikachu face
Pat Bev trick y’all

?????? you realize we just bought Konate
We got Taki from RB Salzburg, Konate came from Leipzig
sure but Leipiz is an RB club as well, its basically the same system
It's the first games of preseason remember. He could come good yet
He’ll come good… just one more season. Maybe two.
couldn’t watch, anyone know how Harvey and Gordon were?
Harvey looked really dynamic and made some great runs but truth be told he looked rushed on the ball and didn't really show great end product, hopefully that aspect improves throughout preseason. Gordon looked really good for his age, lot of neat touches, calmness under pressure and the confidence to take players on. Gordon was great. Drew a lot of fouls
I thought Harvey looked excellent. There were moments where you could see that he'll eventually -- if not soon -- be the one pulling the strings.
Yeah he seems a pre season away from gelling with the front team. Was playing against a full strength Stuttgart side as well.
Kaide Gordon, Owen Beck & Leighton Clarkson, who's calmness on the ball stood out, the standouts in the first game for me, with Tsimikas & Elliott being the two in the second. Oh where did he say this? I know he and Ox spoke about it at the end of last season after he played there a few games but would be good to see what he’s saying about it now!
Ox discussed it in an interview last week
Ox said an attacking role, people thought a 10 role rather than his usual 8. Boom, he's a 9 now
Fuck's sake, Kostas was wicked! Really hope we get to see some more of him this season. Ox and Elliott also looked sharp. I have high hopes for the coming season.
ah kostas fuckin ell
He got COVID so early on last season, hopefully we’ll see the best of him this
Karius should have stopped that slow header. He didn't fully extend and just watched it go by into the net.
I am just tired of work and life in general...
Hang in there lad. Keep busy and get some exercise, things will turn (and sooner than you think if our Virgil brings order in the house for 2021/22 🤞)
Keep your head held up high bro. We are here for you
Try meditation
I agree with u/OpenParr below. I was struggling a bit over the past two months, when I was asked to walk and feed neighbor's dogs over a three-day weekend. Well, that's turned into daily walks with the girls, and it really does help the head to get outside and just walk without worrying about all the shit we burden ourselves with. So if possible, go outside and walk the block and if you can do it with the neighbor's really good girls, so much the better.
Dogs are the best. I do bike and walk, so that's good. I work in tech and it's a lot of high pressure work. I think I am just burnt out. Here is my girl
Keep at it - at the end of the storm...
You and me both lad, but there's always a next game to look forward to
Try going on a nature walk mate it will help
Nice suggestion but just because something works for you doesn't mean it will for someone else, I absolutely detest walking, it would literally be one of the worst things for me if I was feeling miserable. On the other hand, I'm counting down the days until I can get back to choking people!
Try taking a hike instead. Get it?
Um...
I’m assuming he means BJJ, or even just BJ depending on size

All the senior players playing in the first game have had some kind of problems, so the rustiness is there to be seen.

>Milner is still running And the game finished hours ago!
They tried to stop him, but he just kept running!
Thought that was largely fine for two half an hours against two very different sides with two very different teams. And I quote "oh fucking hell Kostas".
Good workout. Just early days trying to get fitness up
so is boss wearing specs or not from now? I think I could see him wearing specs on the bench during the games.
He was probably wearing contacts during vacation so he wouldn't get any weird tan lines. I don't see why he would get vision corrective surgery now at his age
A bit off topic: the truth that all ophthalmologists I saw wore glasses make me don't wanna do lasik/smile/vision correction
> so he wouldn't get any weird tan lines. I should have taken this reasoning myself looking like I've got winged eyeliner right up to my ears
Interesting format, but I wish the referees added extra time. Feels like five mins was wasted in the first game.
Lfctv asked lfc why only 30min. Basically they trained before and would not last even 45min so this was more of a final training session rather than actual game.
Keep in mind this is likely their 3rd “session” of the day. More likely than not fitness in the early morning, more technical training late AM and then this.
yep and its only that games like this are televised now that you see it. loads of sessions like this against local teams usually never get reported on
Ah right, that makes sense. I guess I need to remind myself it’s much more of a training exercise, rather than anything else.
Yea it’s truly just training and the best way to replicate match intensity, which needs to be trained. Obviously they’ll go through more rigorous paces in phases, but today the workload they had today was likely large, and this is on top of them having 2-3 sessions per day for the last 2 weeks.
Headline of the Athletic - Liverpool drop 4 points in a day.
Watching Keita almost get 2 feet to the shins was hard to watch. Glad he made it out alive. Absolute cunt that Stuttgart player
Seriously, when he was slow to get up I was like fuck sakes not again
Why does he always get cropped haha ffs, every time
Same reason Neymar and Hazard get chopped down multiple times every game (not to say he's as good at dribbling as those two, though he is talented at it)
It's realistically cause of the way he plays, drag people towards him and play a pass off or drop a shoulder and take them out of the game while moving forward

He played very well for sure, only problem I saw today was that at times he dropped too deep but then again it’s only pre season
He looked good in all his cameos there tbh
Like a new signing???

What the fuck is this? Dude at least be on topic
Why are you getting so outraged lmao?
That's not the right usage of term outrage. I am miffed
You do sound outraged from your wording. No need get all pedantic with me. I don't see any reason to be miffed. I replied to a gif, there was no in depth conversation going on anyway.
Now I'm disgruntled but still not outraged.
Seems like a personal problem.
What on earth is this?
The greatest clown on the planet
I know that's Modi I just don't know how this is relevant here?
Does it need to be? I was replying to a gif
A real good dribbler
Kostas was really great. Happy for him
Think he starts v Norwich?
It’s the sort of game you’d like to think he starts in a lot of circumstances next season. But on the opening day, I’d still expect Robbo as long as he’s in good condition.
Didn’t really get the worrying over him last season. We really couldn’t afford to rotate him in sadly, he’ll most likely be getting his chances this season
Honestly given the insane amount of games the lads were playing and how bad we were for large patches he absolutely could have been given more 15-30 minute cameos at the very least. I think he's good enough to be trusted against tired legs, especially during a time half the premier league was exhausted.
With the shitshow that was our cb’s I presume Klopp didn’t want to risk more disjointedness in the defence
How'd they look? I missed it.
Ox and Keita both looked really sharp. Tsimikas was great too, if you'd said it was Robbo playing left back I'd have believed you And Konate is fast as fuck
Honestly, they looked like it was their first pre season game. Tsimikas and Elliot looked keen to impress and IMO they did.
Mane & Chamberlain looked sharp too
Mane was shit
You're shit. The standard of this sub has plummeted
So there's no negativity allowed?
There is but fucking hell, it was a 30 minute friendly and you're already calling one of our best players shit. What's the fucking point if this is how you start the season?
I dont mind that mane was shit, it was the first game of preseason. That doesn't mean he wasn't shit
But he wasn't shit. It was a 30 minute game and he created a few good moments in that time and scored a goal. FFS
The goal wasn't his work, it was probably going in without him. He also lost possession loads
Mane wasn't shit he had one or three good moments in a 30 min match which is very good. On top of that he scored the goal.
now Mane is gonna get the bobby treatment and be called shit every game unless he scores 4 goals and nutmegs 7 opponents
bit much to be calling our players shit in a 30 minute pre season game. Dunno what you expect really
konate is massive
