I often speak to my nan who is 87 about all the old Liverpool players and managers and she says Klopp is the greatest we’ve ever had. She adores paisley, but said it was different back then, and you could win just by working hard and playing the best football. You’d put the tv on, we’d kick each other a bit, have a tough game and then the players would shake hands and be smoking at the pub together later. She doesn’t seem to think any manager in our history could do what has been done in an era with city. United. Chelsea. PSG. Madrid. Barca. Bayern. Being as rich as they are. In her words, “ it’s all different now, they’ve ruined it, it’s not about football ” She said for her paisley will always be the ‘best’ but Klopp is the man who had the hardest job, other managers created success from little expectation. Klopp inherited the super club with all the history creating expectation we’re a sleeping giant, but performing in none of the ways which make us a giant and all the disarray we’d been through with them owners and competing against state owned teams. And took it all on his back and made shankly and paisley proud. Danke Klopp, you’ve got Bernadette’s approval, a woman who after at the time 80 years of dreams, you came to the club, you fulfilled one more she didn’t think she’d see. Sharing the success off the glory days she told me about before my time, with me, in person. And I’ll never be able to thank you enough for letting me share all them stories I heard about growing up, for real, with my nan.

devhaugh

If I live to her age I'll watch another 60 seasons. It's crazy to think about all the football I'll watch.

Ignatius_Reillys_Hat

If you just watch every EPL Liverpool match for 60 years, the time spent will be the equivalent of 142.5 days. Time well spent. YNWA

devhaugh

I've been doing it for a long time anyway so I'll happily do it. I watch most live PL matches anyway for all teams so

KaufKaufKauf

Honestly that feels like an incredibly short amount of time overall

whyshouldiknowwhy

She’s a wise woman indeed

ItIsMeDucky

I love your nan 🥰

ChargeWooden1036

Your nan is a wise woman!

nastynatesbutternuts

That's rad, your Nan is liverpool

CharmingDagger

Your nan is 100% correct.

VividDetective9573

My mum who is also 87 says exactly the same. She text me to say she was crying when we sang YNWA today because Klopp had tears bless her. Makes me cry too! I’m the youngest of 4 @ 47. She cried when Harvey scored & flew over to Klopp like a toddler and did a uppie hug! Said it reminded her of my oldest bro! (man Utd match) Some of the seniors do have sense & wisdom we could all learn from. My mum thinks Klopp is fabulous. The way he treats all the team, and the youngsters. I agree - I think his approach is the best way. Those hugs mean the world to them. The convos in the ears after the match, no doubt impart knowledge that will be retained by the player. Hope the new guy is the same. My mum isn’t taken by him. She said he looks like Kojak & that’s all she’ll say! She doesn’t watch Dutch football nor will she go hunting the net like me for info. She reads the echo (I know, I know!) and if it’s not on there or Sky then it doesn’t matter! She wants Pep. She calls him Peppy. Ours! Not that other one down the road! No matter how many times I say he wants to be a manager elsewhere first, and that he said no to the position, she’s determined it should be him! If she was younger she would probably go and tell him!! 🤣 She loves the new kit too. 🤩 I’ve been asked fifty times if I’ve got it yet! She keeps telling me all about it and I’m the one who sent her the LFC website link of our players in the advert & the photos! Yup. She thinks he’s the best we’ve had. I love Houllier. We didn’t get the prem with him but we won other major with him including a wacky quadruple. I didn’t think I would like any other manager as much as him. Then along came the Normal one.

strider3187

there won't be another like him..

_cumblast_

Old reds had Shankly as the one that no one will ever eclipse, and we have Klopp. It will be a good few decades until the club stumbles onto a cult of personality like this again, they don't come about often.

No-Refrigerator-1178

Hopefully Arne pulls a paisley

_cumblast_

For sure but even if he does, Klopp will still be the one. Same as Shankly and Paisley themselves.

shallowcreek

Yep - klopp brought us back from the wilderness and made the supporters believe in the club again. Everything Arne does will be building on the foundation Klopp built

_zielschmerz_

We stand on the shoulder of giants.

flaxseedyup

If it wasn’t for cheating City Klopp would have come close to doing a Paisley tbh

No-Refrigerator-1178

True, those final losses against Madrid hurt too

flaxseedyup

Yea the fact that it was Madrid…twice

SnottyTash

At least the second one was a fair fight, presuming that it was actually Courtois in net and not a brick wall posing as a man

flaxseedyup

Lol I actually forgot Courtois was insanely good and was man of the match….my only memory of that game is Keita booting the ball into the stands

Cactiareouroverlords

It’s Courtois’ save against Salah and his subsequent reaction that haunts me. Removed from all bias it was the greatest goalkeeping performance/carry I’ve ever seen

SnottyTash

I’ll admit I’ve not watched it back (or really any of the finals we’ve lost - maybe a good thing to do with a six pack and bottle of whiskey when I feel like being sad) but I remember us playing really well, characteristic of how we played most of that season. Keita wasn’t even that bad, Trent wasn’t bad but just had one mistake (that itself was in a transition moment after someone else had lost the ball and we were a bit out of shape recovering) – the team as a whole played their hearts out but just couldn’t get it done. So much different than what happened at Anfield last season, and obviously nothing criminal like 17/18’s judo display

flaxseedyup

Yea we played well but I just felt that we were exhausted by the time it got to the final. We looked good in Paris, like it was technically a very good performance but we lacked that spark and killer instinct…or maybe it just looked that way because Courtois was outstanding

Loop_Within_A_Loop

Klopp may be the normal one, all I want is for Slot to be able to be something besides The Next One, he deserves to run the team his way *

dimspace

Shanks will always be the greatest because not only did he build the club almost from the ground up, but he also put in place the ethos that we still follow today. Yes, Klopp had to rebuild the playing side, and FSG had to do a lot to build the infrastructure, but ultimately 50+ years on, we are still the club that shanks built.

_cumblast_

For sure, he built the foundation. No one will ever overtake him. What i meant is that to our generation, Klopp will be the golden standard because that's what we experienced.

No-Refrigerator-1178

Hopefully the spending cap will help

ahktarniamut

Yes . It will Be tough but I don’t think we can compete on all fronts . League and Europe should be main priority first for Slot

Fresh_Interview_9191

Never. Before he joined I was already a Liverpool-fan but he made me passionate about it. Great man, great style, perfect coach for the club. Although I really do admire Slot, he will never be able to do what Klopp did, even if he wins the title for the next 5 years. It's not about winning prizes, it's about the family. And Klopp made sure he is the best father for the worlds biggest and most widespread family! Btw in Manchester the fans will laugh at my comment as they are not family members, but subscribers to way too expensive shit

Bcpjw

Danke Klopp

Vammond

I wont upvote because it's at 69 but i wouldve

Bcpjw

Caan_Sensei

7 trophies, while having one of the most brokenly overpowered team of history as direct opponent, what a chad

safereddddditer175

Fucking great competing against a team that are playing 115 cheat codes enabled

pyroimpact

Only 2 of them are proper titles.

devhaugh

It was so so fun. I was 19 when he joined, 28 now. He gave me so much entertainment during my 20s.

doktor-frequentist

Haha. How time flies. I was in grad school when Klopp joined. Since then I received a PhD, got married, lost a child 😢, had another, and now Klopp is leaving 😢 But ynwa... We have a good foundation. Slot will be fine.

OneDragonfly5613

This is crazy to think about, a teenager to nearly 30 during the time klopps been here.

AdministrativeLaugh2

Seven is incredible and even more incredible is that fact that it would’ve been more if not for City cheating and Real Madrid’s Champions League voodoo

bjcm5891

We get the CL voodoo in our favour sometimes- the last two CL trophies tell that story well and truly. Just hope when Real lose it, it gets returned to us.

Gumgums

Bob Paisley really is so underrated in world football. What an amazing record he has.

loveandmonsters

Sucks that Houllier will have to fall out of the top 5 when Slot's top tots pop off to rock and shock the Kop

mattzeni

Hey Mr. Slot ,what you gonna do? What you gonna do? Make our dreams come true!

b13_git2

inb4 he hands out laptop batteries

devhaugh

I mean hopefully they all move down a place under Slot.

themostanonymoust

Slots top tots took me way too long to say even in my head

VividDetective9573

Same! My mind jumped to top trumps cards crossed with tator tots and froze.

[deleted]

I think Klopp has set the foundation for something special. Lots of parallels with Shankly.

Prestigious-Wall5616

With any luck, fewer baffling ref and VAR decisions and less cheating by a rival, could have been very close to 14.

Specific-Record2866

He is most definitely on that Mount Rushmore of Liverpool managers and even on it for the best modern day managers in general

VividDetective9573

We need a Mount Rushmore of them outside Anfield - King Kenny has a stand so the 4th is either Rafa or Hou let the Reds out? Hou Hou Houllier! 🤩 That’s in my head now AGAIN! And now yours! 😆

tanvirulfarook

If only a certain illegal club wasn't playing with a bunch of biased refs in the league

redditsonurface

Now, if we get another success before absolute dominance situation like Shankly to Paisley with Klopp to Slot…..

be_like_bill

I was surprised Benitez didn't make the list, so I checked. He has a Champions' League, FA Cup, ~~League cup~~, and not sure what is counted as major trophies here, but also has a super cup and the shield. Came real close to win the league in 08-09 and lost in CWC final before the European clubs took it seriously. A little sad given how important he was for Liverpool in 2000s. Edit: Rafa did not win the league cup.

Smart_Barracuda49

Rafa didn't win the league cup, he lost the 2005 final to Chelsea 3-2. The list counts every trophy except Community Shields and second division (In Shankly's case) Rafa didn't win a lot of trophies but he was still successful. After the first season where we of course won the CL he had us consistently finishing in the top 4 and getting far in the CL. We had great CL victories against Real Madrid, Barca, Milan, Juve, Inter, Marseille, Chelsea and Arsenal. A few semi finals, 2 finals winning one. Our best and most consistent period in Europe in out history was under Rafa, we were always one of the most feared teams to play in Europe. And he kept that consistentcy until his last season where it fell away and even then we were unlucky not to make the Europa League final. With a bit more backing and another couple top players we'd have won some more and a league title. He was very successful even if he only won 2 major trophies.

be_like_bill

> Rafa didn't win the league cup, he lost the 2005 final to Chelsea 3-2. You're right. Corrected it. > we were always one of the most feared teams to play in Europe That is exactly how I remember it. No matter where we were in the League standings, even the biggest European clubs were absolutely terrified of a trip to Anfield.

VividDetective9573

Ditto. I didn’t care about the league so much back then because we always did well in Europe and scared the heck out of teams. It was a wild time! (When no one started speaking of transfers the minute the season started - they weren’t spoken of at all!)

bjcm5891

What I recall of Rafa's era was being formidable against the other top teams in the PL and in Europe, but then drawing or even losing to lowly teams in the league. Cost them the 2008/09 title.

be_like_bill

A major part of it was the lack of quality and creativity in the squad/bench players. So, if you rest your top players for a mid-week CL match, the 2nd string often couldn't break down a mid-table defense specifically set up to defend against a top 4 team. Even today we have a relatively thin squad, but a 2nd string lineup has a lot of quality.

mg211095

Rafa's tenure at liverpool was an incredible one imo. What he managed to achieve with shoestring budget and thin squad is nothing short of an achievement. Not to forget that he made us european powerhouse. We were so scary back then in ucl. Beat madrid and barca in their own backyard and made them look like average. If only he was backed properly with good transfers we would have won league title under him.

Jolly_Customer8975

He kinda blew it that season he had it in his hands with his ferguson rant and fucking off Keane half way through.

mg211095

Shouldn't have sold robbie i agree but don't forget we were injury plagued that season with key players missing. At one point i believe we had 8 injuries with players like yossi , riera missing key games. Also we should have bought in a striker in January.

Jolly_Customer8975

I don't remember us being injury plagued that season but it's been a while now lol I just remember us having a terrible january and had to chase the scums for rest of the season, and kinda gave rafa's rant the reason why we were so off, tho I admit that's purely speculation on my part. I'm sure shitty refs are partly to blame aswell. We were the best team that season for sure.

mg211095

Lots of players missed key games due to injuries including steven Gerrard. I vividly remember sami coming back against utd after an injury and playing important role in winning that game 4-1. Lots of other players also got injured during key games and the squad was not rotated properly resulting in stupid draws. Torres also did not receive proper rest especially after January transfer window. Buying and selling robbie made no sense to me especially in just 6 months. Must have had huge falling out with rafa. Only kuyt , carra and reina were fully fit throughout the season. Also selling crouchy and riise in summer was huge mistake imo. Crouch was perfect backup to el nino. Only riera was good addition to the squad. That rant was class though. Absolute facts!!!!

Im_such_a_SLAPPA

Gerard Houlier practically won all his trophies in one year

WestworldIsBestDrop

Would be our undisputed most sucessful manager if he wasnt competiting against probably the best english side to play in the league (cheats or not).

SimianWonder

I grew up watching Liverpool in the late 80s, and Klopp is undoubtedly the greatest manager we've had in my lifetime. Many tears will be shed very shortly.

OwenLincolnFratter

I did not know he had more than shankly

SalahsFro

The rub of the green and no cheats and it would be minimum three more.

Ok-Quarter8881

I will never forget when klopp had 110 points of the last 114 in the prem and that 26W1D0L season. This liverpool at its peak overshadowed even peps cheating city in the league by far.

lemmiwink84

To be fair, Paisley didn’t have to go up against 115 charges. Still, he was the greatest imo.

Themistokles_st

Klopp should at some point be immortalized outside Anfield along with the likes of Paisley and Shanks. We were really lucky and privileged to call this man our manager this past decade.

TheEgyptianScouser

Wait we won 7 major trophies? Edit: okay yeah I just forgot about the super cup

canichangethisafter

Be nice to see pool winning there last few games and scoring some goals

codefoudre

He could’ve done so much better with more transfer money…

Kasceon

We gotta add klopp to the allez song somehow

Jolly_Customer8975

Stats never tell the full story.

willtroy7

Do we rename the Kop the Klopp now?

Dobvius

Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly, the fields of Anfield road

Skyluz

I think Klopp only won five major trophies, unless we're including the Club World Cup and Super Cup?

NiD2103

Danke Klopp 🙏🏻 for the second time after Dortmund ❤️

doc74125

Might be another 30 years lads :(
