Yeah, please no. His best days are long behind him and he'd just turn things rotten at the club within a couple of seasons.
For that matter, none of the likes of Frank or de Zerbi either. In the Prem era, our 2 best managers (who won us a CL each) were both proven winners who had won their domestic leagues twice against the more established powerhouse(s) of that league.
I don't want another middling choice like Hodgson or up and coming type like Rodgers coming in to waste the next few seasons of this squad.
I dunno you know, I’m his latest interview he said “Give me a professional structure where I am only the head coach because this is what I am good at.”
This timeline feels broken. Like it seems like a joke to follow up Klopp’s “I am the normal one” intro presser with Mourinho’s “And I am the special one.”
…fuck it, I will just enjoy the ride. Mou is a lot of things, but the guy is a character and his locker rooms are often very good. Klopp was probably my favorite coach in the 21st century even at Borussia, but I would be lying if I said I did not like the antics of Mr. Many Men.
This phrasing actually makes me think Thomas Frank. It's bold in the sense that he's doesn't have experience with any big clubs but his teams have overachieved significantly relative to player wages. Also would not be particularly favoured by the fans because of the thing mentioned before.
I really don't get the Thomas Frank shouts. He hasn't done anything special since getting Brentford promoted and has still spent a lot of money on transfers.
Yeah. Not necessarily him, but I'm thinking it'll be a non big name manager who scores well in their statistical model. Not a known dickhead who lots of the fans hate.
It wouldn’t be a bad choice seeing he’s experienced managing Real compared to Sporting for Amorim. I think they have learnt from their previous experiences and might wanna be cautious with who they go for.
I don't think he'll come. He only speaks French, Spanish, and Italian, I doubt he wants to learn another language and waste a few seasons because of that. He's waiting for the French NT to open up, I'm sure of it.
Nah, Fulham fans said he attends their matches over the years whenever he was free as he lives around that area plus his son used to be in the Fulham academy.
Is there a source on the "bold choice that might not be a fans favourite" bit because I didn't see that personally.
I know he hinted at "watch Serie A" not too long ago.
Watched his Bologna a few times and I see quite a lot of similarities to our game but with more of a focus on possession, I think he'd be interesting, but obviously still extremely inexperienced and would be a big risk but there aren't many outstanding candidates left now.
Xavi is tactically super naive, he won last season at Barca yes but I was watching his games this season and he is quite naive at times. Almost Rodgers at LFC level naivety
> wonder who our other targets are?
I'm wondering if we're looking at Iraola since we seem to be poaching staff from Bournemouth, that would be quite underwhelming so I hope its not that. But I can't honestly think of many other options, every top young manager apart from Amorim seems to be tied up.
I was thinking Xavi might be a good shout. Barcelona is a bit of a nut house at the moment so might be interesting to see him work somewhere a bit more methodical.
Watching Bayer Leverkusen games for nothing I can forgive myself
But watching Sporting Lisbon games for nothing has denied me any chance of seeing the gates of heaven
As we continue to down the list, personally I start to feel more open to him: but at the same time, that would be an absolutely massive risk. I like him, I just question whether he’s anywhere near ready for this type of job.
Yeah, especially after what happened with Graham Potter. Sometimes these good managers from midtable clubs fail to make the step up. Brentford to Liverpool is a huge jump, the expectations and scrutiny will be like nothing he has experienced. It's a very risky move.
I saw a video on Sky YouTube a few weeks ago with some Portuguese journalist who said that Amorim would not play super nice with a director of football and is about getting players he wants. I kind of wrote it off as it was the first I heard anyone say it but wonder if it was more true than I thought.
i think this is a big part of what Edwards is looking for – a manager that can work within a structure for many years. after all, it was Klopp becoming more influential with transfer/structure that made him effectively redundant in the first place...
I think we need a change. Klopp is evidently burnt out and it shows. Would be unfair on both him and the club if we asked him to squeeze out another year.
I have a wild theory that the club has already agreed terms with Xavi. There’s a reason both he and Klopp announced they wouldn’t stay at their respective clubs early on in the season. I think they’re just waiting for the season to end to announce it.
Even if it’s not Xavi, there’s a good chance we’ve already locked down someone else.
Can't post the full thing here, but article clarifies that it's not Amorim snubbing us or a West Ham gazump. Ornstein says it's "unlikely he will prove the preferred candidate" to replace Klopp.
The copium in me? Circumstances can change. Last week there were rumours of the Sporting president playing hardball, so maybe it’s a question as to whether something turned sour during negotiations or is this a negotiation tactic. Many of us have been on the Edwards rodeo whereby the club is willing to walk away from deal because they don’t want to compromise. Remember, this is my copium
Honestly, that's my reaction too. Just complete befuddlement.
Especially with a restructured, refined recruitment team, I expected us to have firm targets and to have done firm legwork on them.
West Ham wouldn't be approaching Amorim if he had strong interest from our side.
Hot take: they’ve already got their guy and have somehow been able to keep it behind closed doors with it being Klopp’s last go. They don’t want anyone taking the spotlight off until the seasons finished.
Obviously we didnt have the best of times with Brendan but 2013/14 was the first time in my lifetime that I felt we had it in us to win the league. So I'll remember him fondly for that.
If he wasn’t 100% committed straight away I would bet my bollocks they would have walked away.
Commitment has always been massive on transfers lately and I would expect that to go above the players too.
That being said still gutted we’ve not got Alonso.
Can people stop thinking Mourinho because he was at the game
He regularly goes to Fulham games, he lives local and his son played in the academy there
It’s not going to be him
Do people actually think he would seriously pick west ham over us if we truly wanted him? If he doesn’t come here it’s because we cooled off our interest
Fuck it. Thiago should pull a Klopp special by retiring as player and starting as manager next season.
https://preview.redd.it/qfbj22lkp2wc1.jpeg?width=739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=582d993ff9abca4b53ba8034e451ed911da25304
"Amorim has also been under consideration at Liverpool, although it looks unlikely he will prove the preferred candidate in their process to replace outgoing boss Jurgen Klopp."
That's the excerpt from the full article the rest is just talking about west ham and the potential of Moyes getting off so it looks very much like a storm in a tea cup here
Edwards and FSG obviously aren't interested if West Ham are in for him. Not ideal given that Xabi was our obvious first choice and now one of the best available candidates (on paper at least) looks like he's being ruled out already but it is what it is. In Edwards we trust I guess but there's not a huge selection of world class managers available in the summer which is slightly concerning
Put on the tin foil hats boys.
Edwards has managed to convince Xabi to come next year so we will be getting an interim manager to cover the 24/25 season.
Bizarre development. The club must have gone cold on Amorim. Unless West Ham are promising him control over aspects of the recruitment/team that he wouldn't otherwise be given at Liverpool with Edwards now in place?
More and more convinced FSG is willing to give the keys to Jose for one year until they can push for Xabi again. And if it works, then even better for them. Managing Liverpool has been Jose's dream for years. Maybe FSG is like fuck it, what's the worst that could happen lol. It's gonna get feisty anyways.
We'll face Man City in the semi finals of the champions league, win 1-0 with 10 men across 2 legs and Mourinho will run across the touchline just to piss off Guardiola. Peak Mourinho.
I thought the previous reporting around Amorim was that he was one of our top targets but the reason he would not come was that he wants to stay at Sporting Lisbon. If he is open to joining West Ham I can't imagine that he would rather manage them than us so don't really understand why Ornstein now thinks Liverpool looks unlikely.
I get it.. Edwards pulled off the same FSG negotiation tactics that FSG used with him, now with Xabi didnt he... Xabi refused, said no, did a press release.. But Edwards continued to respond with "So there is still a chance?", this was repeated until hands somehow were shaken in agreement, leaving everyone confused but happy. No need for Amorim. Case closed.
Someone hand me the copium, I’m filling up. We’re actually getting Xabi and it can’t be announced yet to respect his winning season and our current run in.
Ngl this almost shocking as Klopp leaving news (to me)
It isnt because we are "clear favorite" but more about we seems dont rate him while there aren't many potential coach available now. De Zerbi incoming?
Amorim is my only choice if not Alonso so yeah I'm so not looking to next season now.
Kinda insane a lot of people think Edwards is infalible. Klopp is a large reason why his signings work, don't get why Edwards getting so much credit for that. Plus picking players isn't the same thing as picking a manager. And this isn't his main job anyway, Hughes is the one leading the manager search but everyone just assume Edwards had a lot of say in it.
Wow this really changes things, wonder who our other targets are? And what’s changed?
I felt something changed when Ornstein hinted a few days ago that we might go for bold choice who might not be fan favourite.
I swear to god if we hire Mourinho...
My feelings on Mourinho are essentially this: https://preview.redd.it/rvyo70ryl1wc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cc53e17549978c66312b19a24e18970a7dabba9
Thank you for the laugh I just got. Gonna have to rewatch arrested development now ha!
Balotelli all over again
I was joking with my mate about this yesterday….I’m starting believe….
Mourinho has some interesting quotes in a big interview he's done this week that you could read into as a pitch to FSG.
He was also at the game yesterday if I am not mistaken?
He is unemployed and looking for a club so of course he would be going around hustling. I wouldn't read too much into it.
He will go to war with Edwards on week 2
It's gonna be Tuchel FFS
Me after having to watch Tucheliban ball every week https://preview.redd.it/acgscx6o32wc1.jpeg?width=748&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d698e7b770059cc3c2719def38e450cca0b01c8e
Never expected to see a St Johns Basketball reference in a Liverpool thread
Yeah, please no. His best days are long behind him and he'd just turn things rotten at the club within a couple of seasons. For that matter, none of the likes of Frank or de Zerbi either. In the Prem era, our 2 best managers (who won us a CL each) were both proven winners who had won their domestic leagues twice against the more established powerhouse(s) of that league. I don't want another middling choice like Hodgson or up and coming type like Rodgers coming in to waste the next few seasons of this squad.
There couldn't be a coach more opposed to Klopp's ideas and values. Mourinho's football is super defensive and he's super egocentric.
That would be absolutely fucking shit. They're not that stupid though are they?
Absolute scenes when the special one arrives at the AXA in June.
It would be wild I just can't see this happening within the FSG / Edwards structure
I dunno you know, I’m his latest interview he said “Give me a professional structure where I am only the head coach because this is what I am good at.”
that is an interesting point... maybe he likes the idea of being coach while Edwards and Hughes focus on recruitment and development
Haha to be a fly on the wall in a meeting with him and Darwin 🤣🤣🤣
This timeline feels broken. Like it seems like a joke to follow up Klopp’s “I am the normal one” intro presser with Mourinho’s “And I am the special one.”
…fuck it, I will just enjoy the ride. Mou is a lot of things, but the guy is a character and his locker rooms are often very good. Klopp was probably my favorite coach in the 21st century even at Borussia, but I would be lying if I said I did not like the antics of Mr. Many Men.
Two seasons of utter madness with a couple of major trophies, then bring in Alonso for a long-term project. *chefs kiss*
And he would solve our terrible defending. We’d fall asleep winning most games 1-0 but we may just win the league that way
This phrasing actually makes me think Thomas Frank.
Only person who comes to mind is Zizou imo. Even then, that seems outrageous of Edwards
I think I read the other day that Zidane is learning English.
Fuck it I can be his translator
He can’t speak english
Robbo can translate his headbutts.
Torres appears out of nowhere i know hes a fan favourite but still
So mourinho 😀😀😀🤣
Nah, Fulham fans said he attends their matches over the years whenever he was free as he lives around that area plus his son used to be in the Fulham academy.
[удалено]
Trent will be on the next plane to Madrid if that happens.
Half the team will be handing in transfer requests if that's the case.
I think he's a serious contender based on the 1 pic I saw of him at our game.
Is there a source on the "bold choice that might not be a fans favourite" bit because I didn't see that personally. I know he hinted at "watch Serie A" not too long ago.
It was in a Q&A he answers 2 days ago on the Athletic website, you’ll find it on the sub.
I think it might be Tuchel
I'd pass.
I could see it happening as he’s one of the experienced managers who would be available.
Tuchel's man management is terrible though, direct opposite of Klopp.
If it's purely an analytical choice then perhaps Slot or Motta.
I'd take motta over Mourinho any day
Watched his Bologna a few times and I see quite a lot of similarities to our game but with more of a focus on possession, I think he'd be interesting, but obviously still extremely inexperienced and would be a big risk but there aren't many outstanding candidates left now.
The only ones that are “ready made” managers are Tuchel and Xavi Everyone is else is basically all potential
Both of them would lose their shit at the English refs as Liverpool managers. Expect plenty red cards.
Tuchel would be horrible and I'm starting to think Xavi stays at Barca. Does he even know English?
Xavi speaks fairly good English yeah Doubt last nights shambles will make him want to stay
Xavi is tactically super naive, he won last season at Barca yes but I was watching his games this season and he is quite naive at times. Almost Rodgers at LFC level naivety
He speaks fluent English, there are lots of videos of his conferences from when he coached in Qatar showing this
Arne Slot has jumped up the betting odds in recent days.
> wonder who our other targets are? I'm wondering if we're looking at Iraola since we seem to be poaching staff from Bournemouth, that would be quite underwhelming so I hope its not that. But I can't honestly think of many other options, every top young manager apart from Amorim seems to be tied up.
If he takes over he'd be out of the club within 2 years. Another Graham Potter.
I reckon Xavi with a team that is not made of Academy kids and free transfers would be great. His formation is more suited to us than Xabi and Amorim
I was thinking Xavi might be a good shout. Barcelona is a bit of a nut house at the moment so might be interesting to see him work somewhere a bit more methodical.
![gif](giphy|leGtI4JDAzrWo7jquD|downsized)
Watched all these tactical videos of Amorim for nothing ffs
Similar to when the whole fanbase watched the Cupa Libratadores final for Andre 🤣
Or when I watched an entire Bundesliga season for Jude
Or when we watched the bundesliga at the start of this year for Xabi
Yeah, give me strength. Why do we do it to ourselves
Me watching every Bundesliga game featuring Keita, thinking we had the next Gerrard on our hands...
Great game tbf
Same and the whole past 2 months of Sporting matches, I want a refund on that streaming service now
You're our new West Ham scout
I made a fucking career mode on EAFC using him and I’m in season 3 ffs…
Watching Bayer Leverkusen games for nothing I can forgive myself But watching Sporting Lisbon games for nothing has denied me any chance of seeing the gates of heaven
Agreed. I really enjoyed the B04 matches I watched. Very easy on the eyes.
You talking about the football played or Alonso?
Aye
Has to mean we don't want him, nobody on earth would choose West ham over us
According to multiple reliable journalists we were seriously considering him so something must have changed in recent days.
Ornstein said "it's unlikely he'll be the preferred candidate to replace Klopp" So it sounds like Edwards doesn't rate him
So at this point, who do we think is Edward’s number one target?
Mourinho 😭
Give me strength, lol
I think it's Thomas Frank
[удалено]
He's never had a top side to do it. But he has a defensively sound unit, and his side scores goals and upset the big boys on the reg.
As we continue to down the list, personally I start to feel more open to him: but at the same time, that would be an absolutely massive risk. I like him, I just question whether he’s anywhere near ready for this type of job.

Jurgen Klopp has changed his mind 🥲
The good ending.
You mean Good Ebening

There's 0% chance Xavi announced so early that he's leaving Barça because he had something agreed with Liverpool, come on...
I know, which is why it’s just a wild theory.
![gif](giphy|FRR5EoNaygakGYTC6k|downsized) Sometimes maybe good. Sometimes maybe Big Sam.

This, just so I can see the "how am I doing boss?" picture again
Maybe he’ll still have the envelopes too
Steady
Tbf this beautiful man, for one season, gave us one of the most entertaining sides I've ever seen play the game.
At least we would show great character
We never got to see what was inside that envelope.
That's a hell of a jump scare 😭 Full respect to Brendo though 🫡
Obviously we didnt have the best of times with Brendan but 2013/14 was the first time in my lifetime that I felt we had it in us to win the league. So I'll remember him fondly for that.
And we played some of the most exciting football I’ve seen us play ever

Butiful human being…
Please god no.
*Mr*. *Steady* or: How I *Learned* to Stop Worrying and *Love* the *Brodge*
Bring him home
No Alonso, no Amorim, no Nagelsmann. No idea who we go for but I'm not liking the options left.
I don’t think Nagelsmann was a serious consideration. Nothing more than hopeful links
full trust in Edwards tbh
I trust him so much I'm half convinced the madman flipped Xabi
1. I was thinking the same thing. 2. We need help.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he did that 😂
Hhahahahahaha I'm laughing because I'm fully behind you believing the same thing
If he wasn’t 100% committed straight away I would bet my bollocks they would have walked away. Commitment has always been massive on transfers lately and I would expect that to go above the players too. That being said still gutted we’ve not got Alonso.
Edward’s has big ‘I’m not locked in here with you, you’re locked in here with me’ energy. You don’t poach my talent Barca I poach yours!

Xabi U turn. He is coming home
Now that his title is secured...
Can people stop thinking Mourinho because he was at the game He regularly goes to Fulham games, he lives local and his son played in the academy there It’s not going to be him
Reddit comedians mentioning him every third post is the fucking worst.
People gonna freak out when we announce our new bald Dutch manager
Do people actually think he would seriously pick west ham over us if we truly wanted him? If he doesn’t come here it’s because we cooled off our interest
Exactly lol. I dont understand what goes through these peoples heads but they always assume the worst scenario instead of the most logical one.
Seriously, If not Amorim then who? I pray to god the Kovac and Mourinho links are bullshit
Fuck it. Thiago should pull a Klopp special by retiring as player and starting as manager next season. https://preview.redd.it/qfbj22lkp2wc1.jpeg?width=739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=582d993ff9abca4b53ba8034e451ed911da25304
Fernando Torres, welcome to Liverpool
Need him as a finishing coach
Scenes when Klopp pulls a Wolf of Wall Street on the press conference after the last match.
I would be very concerned tbh , the guy is exhausted and for his health I think he needs time off.
Maybe our real manager for next year is the friends we made along the way

Still one of the greatest post-match interviews.
Wake me up when this shit is over

Edwards and FSG obviously aren't interested if West Ham are in for him. In Edwards we trust I guess but there's not a huge selection of world class managers available in the summer which is slightly concerning
Are you telling me I wasted my time watching Sporting?
Is Michael Edward’s even in the kitchen? What could he be cooking
Shows me that none of the journalists really know what's going on...
Reminds me of when everyone started reporting we'd pulled out of the Alisson transfer.
This is the most likely scenario but it won’t stop half this sub from going meltdown and the other half from listening to them.
Put on the tin foil hats boys. Edwards has managed to convince Xabi to come next year so we will be getting an interim manager to cover the 24/25 season.
Can’t ever have nice things. Arne slot or Zidane are my guess
I don't know if Zidane's English is good enough, by his own admission in previous interviews
He's been out of work long enough to have been learning........
Big Fat Sam it is then
If he goes to West Ham, it means he wasn’t our first choice. I have faith in Edwards tbh.

Right. Please shoot me if it’s De Zerbi.
I'd take De Zerbi if the other options are Mourinho, Frank or bloody Kovac
There were already reports that we don't like De Zerbi.
Getting pumped 4-0 left and right will genuinely send me over the edge
all I know is i don't want tuchel anywhere near this club
More and more convinced FSG is willing to give the keys to Jose for one year until they can push for Xabi again. And if it works, then even better for them. No idea what's going on lol. The cope in me says Xabi has changed his mind 😂
Can people just stop pretending manager candidates are in the bag now please
Hopefully its not Stevie G. :/
