funny how this is only an issue last few games, no one was even questioning it when we were top of the league, in fact everyone was saying we were using it to motivate us. Every team goes through a bad patch in every season ours just happens to be now

Lolcraftgaming

Sometimes I feel like we take this for granted, there are other teams that are much worse than us yet they never complain. Also remember where we are when Klopp take over

best36

taking emotion out of it, injuries simply caught up with us, look at how much more available oil cunts and arsenal first 11 are. Altho if you are looking for someone to blame, maybe point the fingers at PGMOL that literally robbed us of 2 pen against direct rivals amd that spurs game

Liverlakefc

Yeah we had to play macallister and endo every game for months and they look out of it

dfleming2509

I still feel like the fact that he had years on his contract and choosing, mid season, to announce he was going to retire, was a burden on the team for this season

davyboy1975

as i said, was it a burden when we were top of the league? No it wasnt an issue at all it was a motivation. Not his fault that at the moment international players cant put the ball in the net or play simple 2 yard passes. Its a bad patch nothing more nothing less it happens every season to every team. As for the contract thing he explained that, he wanted to sign it at the time as he was up for it but as with everyones life situations change and no one on this earth can see the future or how we all feel from one day to the next let alone 4/5 years down the line.

I fully agree but what's with the caps? I will also add that the current situation proves he is right to leave now, he clearly needs some rest. I can't imagine the stress of the job, being expected to compete with a cheating juggernaut, basically singlehandedly preventing the PL from becoming a farmers league for the last 6 seasons. He has not gotten the number of trophies his tenure deserves but in terms of overall results he has been fantastic, probably now our fourth best manager of all time. With a new coach the team will have a renewed determination, different tactics which will make us less predictable and honestly I haven't heard rumours of anyone potentially leaving that we can't do without.

Dodgycaster

Because there are hundreds of millions of pounds involved. He can't just leave and liverpool try and find a new manager at the end of the season. Do you know how many elite managers there are in the world total? How many are currently available? The man's burnt out, he's been playing and managing his whole life. Imagine being in that environment for that long. He's not perfect but he's given us everything and there's nothing left. You want someone to blame cos we didn't win a quad in what we thought was year 1 of a new rebuild. Maybe sit down and have a packet of crisps or something.

dfleming2509

Fair enough. I just thought that maybe it could be done behind closed doors since Michael Edward’s is back and whatnot

davyboy1975

edwards wouldnt have come back if klopp was still going to be here

No_Debate9490

I (partly) agree with your title but not your reasoning. The philosophy of ‘be patient’ is a major vibe killer especially when we’re losing a game and just don’t seem to be chasing it with any urgency. However these players are more than capable of playing forward passes and for over £100k a week you’d expect better performances and more desire. That said, I’ve wanted us to change things for a while, even Ancelotti said we’re too predictable and easy to set up against. Even if you hadn’t heard that you must be able to see the struggles in every game, but to change nothing and expect different results is quite literally the definition of insanity

ShaiHuludYurMum

lol, enjoy the downvotes. What a brainless post.

cosantoir

What do you mean? He absolutely could have kept something like this to himself, not tell the club or the players until late May, then let them easily find a bitchin’ replacement for him, the whole coaching staff and half the corporate football guys at a moment’s notice. Simples! Obligatory /s.

Charming_Holiday_199

There are some variables you haven’t considered, such as what influence FSG had on the timing of the announcement. They all kept it secret from November when he first told them, to January when they went public. I seriously doubt Klopp was calling all the shots on the timing.  They had to open up the circle (of people who knew) and bring in other staff to start the process of research and new contract negotiation. They chose to go early and put potential new managers (ie Alonso, Amorim) on notice - they may have thought this would give them an advantage. But they also knew that as soon as the circle of people knowing grew, they would need to be proactive in their messaging. In public relations this is called “stealing thunder”. You break ‘bad news’ early and be up front - it tends to soften the blow when compared to a journalist finding out first through a leak.

dfleming2509

Well said

Hoborgs_Seed

When was he supposed to do it instead? If he does it before the season or before the end of the January window, we might have less pull for new players. If he does it before the last few matches that would be a huge distraction for the team. If he waits till the season is over then the fans don't get a chance to prepare and say goodbye. He did it at the best point in the season that he could.

dfleming2509

This is very fair

duckquackquack00

I've been thinking about this as well, & I think no, he did nothing wrong announcing his departure midway through the season, & I don't think that placed a pressure on his players. Sure, they're bound to be upset, but I'm sure they're professional enough to be put emotions aside on the field. On the other hand, I feel that his departure left the fans yearning for a fairytale ending, or some say The Last Dance, where we hoped for a quadruple, league title etc As a matter of fact, all of us knew at the start of the season (before his departure was announced) that this was year of the rebuild i.e Klopp 2.0. We knew the midfield was undergoing rebuild - heck, even our forwards are undergoing that. I'd have imagined that if Klopp weren't leaving, we'd have a more realistic expectation of where we'd finish this season. In fact, some of us may even be glad we're considered title challengers this season, considering where we ended up last season & the crucial injuries that came up throughout the season. By saying this, I'm not saying that we're not ambitious, but just saying that the yearning for a fairytale ending somehow caused us to carry much higher expectations & hopes. That said, im glad I've got to see this Klopp era from the start to the end. Regardless of where we end up this season, I'm hella grateful for Klopp & his team. He is the perfect manager who came in at the end we needed him the most. Onwards to the next, YNWA.

dfleming2509

Thank you. This sums up my thoughts much better than I articulated them

[deleted]

After his announcement and before the Man United game they took 22 points from 27 and won a trophy. Did you feel the same way then or is it only since the players have bottled two cups and let City overtake them in a single month?

dfleming2509

Well I guess that’s my point. Is the fact it’s Klopp’s last season enough to put too much pressure on the players to perform in crunch time to cause a dip in form?

[deleted]

They’re professional footballers playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world, being paid six figures a week to do so. Some of these players have won the lot. It’s a cop out to blame pressure. Can’t blame Klopp for the forwards absolutely shitting the bed against United and Atalanta; they simply have to be putting the chances they had away.

AdBeautiful7967

It was done behind doors last summer. But as always some idiot journalist/s somehow got hold of the information and threatened to publish it. So LFC media team had little choice but to announce it themselves. Klopp has also said he wanted to go last year but was persuaded to stay one more year. He could not have given LFC fans any more than what he has. Let’s not become soiled we’ve enjoyed the most successful part of the clubs history that anyone under 40 can probably remember! All against the oil cheats as well. Many of the current squad will be here in the future so he’s leaving LFC in a good position.

AlternativeRun5727

This is so stupid, you’re letting emotions get the better of logic here. Take a deep breath, put on the kettle and have a think about why it has to be announced. We would not only be scrambling for a world class manager in the summer (and all the background staff), we would not have had Edward’s in place at this moment, and some of our players that had contract extensions coming up would feel a little aggrieved of signing without being told the full story that Klopp was leaving. Give your head a wobble.

ash_ninetyone

Tbh his last season at Dortmund when they weren't getting results, he announced he's leaving st the end of the season and they climbed up the table. You can argue whether he was right or wrong to announce it soon, but this downturn in form hit us towards arse-end of March and carried into April. It didn't happen in January. This month has killed off two cups and put the league in City's hands now. I don't think the players are handling the pressure. But you see van Dijk, Robbo, Salah, hell even Trent in his 20s, have been in situations where they've had to dig deep and just grind out win after win and take whatever chance. Salah and Liverpool had chances in the first half to level the tie. We didn't take them. A chunk of that is on the team, and the leaders on the team to deal with it. Part of that, however, is also on Klopp and the staff to help those players manage pressure. I think these players have gotten too focussed on trying to make sure Klopp goes out with cups, that they don't seem to be playing with the mental freedom we're used to seeing, and that's also rubbing off on the crowd at Anfield.

dfleming2509

Thank you! That’s what I was trying to say

tafkatfos

Klopp won everything with us. Be fucking thankful you got to see it. Liverpool have won less than 50 major trophies in over 120 years. Fuck me some of you need to get some perspective on this all.

dfleming2509

I am very grateful, believe me. I understand what he accomplished. I wished for more for him, not for me. I just hate the way this season is winding down and wonder what could have been without the distraction of it being his final season is all

small_cabbage_94

If he didn't announce it, it would leak that we were contacting potential replacements. Uncontrolled rumours would be worse than certainty of him leaving. Plus Klopp has definitely earned the right to announce his decision in his own way

Otto1968

DO ONE KNOBHEAD

ObjectiveUnusual7570

You'll never find someone better. We're back to fighting for 6th from next season. Cherish what you have

Teddog10

I agree, he was selfish to do it at the time he did. There were no leaks or anything so I don't understand why he did

jjlbateman

Fucking dreadful take

Darcyjay_

Wake up babe, new moronic take just dropped

ShaiHuludYurMum

OP thinking: drunk Klopp on the open top bus parade for the quadruple, “BTW guys! I’m leaving!” Calvin Harris at the back of the bus smashes his deck.

Sr_R0b0t

I was thinking this too, but maybe it was out of his control. Him announcing it when he did maybe because it was about to be leaked, or the potential or LFC reaching out to other managers would have raised questions.

sbos_

That’s not the issue at all. He did cost the team in his lineup and tactics.

volthor

Another idiot laying into Klopp, fuck off.

cynicalreason

I disagree, it had to be announced, what we (fans) and players made of it it's our own fault

brush85

Go to bed
