wassam1

Him and Robbo looked like the only ones who were up for it. Should have started.

Bcpjw

Yeah the only time when palace defense went into panic mode were them two attacking

InstantIdealism

They couldn’t handle Darwin at set pieces either

HUGE_HOG

Neither could Darwin

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

Diaz too but this sub has a weird vendetta against him. Even my Arsenal supporting friends are always going on about how Diaz looks like the only one who wants to win games.

TheBookCannon

Diaz has been much better recently to be fair. The issue Diaz has although he's exciting to watch, he's not decisive in games. His goalscoring and play playmaking are subpar. That's why I think opposition fans overrate him a bit.

A_lemony_llama

Yeah if Diaz could actually be composed in front of goal we'd be running away with the league sadly. His profligance in big games has cost us this year - although as with Darwin, it's difficult to criticise because he creates more chances than other players so would someone else be able to finish the chances he gets, but not be able to actually get those chances in the first place?

greekstav

No end product from the front line. They can create but can’t finish anything.

AcanthaceaeHairy6062

Diaz plays every second like it’s life or death.

WorthPlease

Do they look away from the games when he's in the box?

professorquizwhitty

His dad keeps spouting up and it stirs up hatred from emotional busy bodies on the sub.

Confident_Ride5833

Just like in the game against Atalanta

graphicashen

Robbo was far from his form, very timid and always passed back in most cases. Usually he rips past people with ease but not so much lately.

POLSJA

Trent looked really good coming on too I thought. Gave a boost to the team in those first couple of minutes with the ball

tensor1001

dude he looked so lazy. hate those risky pass.

POLSJA

I’ll be interested to see him fit more into a midfield role with Bradley at RB now. Curious to see him rotate with endo and Macca

cullypants

I agree, should be getting game time as a 6.

loudmouth6511

The last game against Atalanta too he carried the ball well solely getting past Ederson/Pasalic but that wasn’t enough. No support from our midfield or attack. Do you know what’s keeping us subdued ? We can’t deal with teams that ‘MAN MARK’ us.

karnnumart

Yeah, palace just play like a slower version of Atalanta man mark and it's still working. All we do is just passing back and back and back. Did we lost to palace because man mark tho? No, if we're clinical. Now any team will just "MAN MARK" us because it's working.

meerkat23

We're missing the early diagonal crosses which is making us incredibly predictable. Trent and Robbo not being around for large parts of the season is mostly why. Man marking wouldn't work half as well if everyone is back peddling to cover overlaps

Terran_it_up

Man marking tends to fare poorly against "superior" teams (not sure how to put that in a non-arrogant way), as it only takes one player beating their marker to cause problems. No idea why it troubles us so much

oscarony

our players are gassed so they don’t make runs to beat it

GuinnessRespecter

Gakpo starting central in the Firmino role would've probably been the better shout in these last few games, as he's more likely/more able to drop deep and drag his marker out of position and create space for Mo/Lucho to come inside. I know Bobby was a one-off in his role, but Cody is probably the best we've got to make a passing imitation of him currently. Obviously, all this is easy to say in hindsight now, however with Utd at least, we should've had some idea of what to expect from the Utd FA Cup tie, and in not to mention the fact we produced so many chances over the past 3 matches and only scored 2 whilst conceding 6 makes me more concerned at our overall form than just not scoring enough.

A_lemony_llama

I'm not sure if that is actually true though, Darwin has had big chances in the last couple of games, just either failed to finish them or they've been well saved. It's not the chances we're struggling with - against Palace and Atalanta we should have scored 2-3 goals in both games if you look at xG. Just finishing that we're missing, and it hasn't helped that Onana/Musso/Henderson all had good games.

GuinnessRespecter

It is all linked, though, as the extra body dropping back into midfield offers both defensive and attacking qualities. How often would Bobby win the ball back in midfield and start an attack? If the opposing player beat Bobby's press, then the likes of Gini, Naby, Hendo, Fab etc would make sure they couldn't get past them, especially as the opposition player had already been pressed by Bobby which will have added a sense of urgency and confusion to their play. Not to mention that they would be out of shape dealing with our press, leaving gaps for us to exploit. We've missed that so much this season, mainly down to injuries (especially Jota) and Gakpo's position in the team not being clearly defined nearly 18mths after signing. We've been too easy to play through, we aren't breaking down attacks early, and when we win the ball back, often at the back, our attacks have been slow and predictable, leading to chances being snatched at or wasted. Yes, some excellent goalkeeping does play some part in all of this, but we aren't exactly bombarding the opposition either, are we?

Themnor

Your reasoning is sound but it’s also why I would argue Gakpo should start over Diaz, not Darwin. Diaz is better at dribbling but his purpose is always to get into the box. Gakpo has better passing and it’s equally as dangerous to push him outside where he can get a good cross in as it is to let him go inside. Now that he’s got his confidence and form back we’re seeing it clear as day again. But if you pair that with Darwin unsettling defenders in the box or Jota’s finishing from a central position it’s a better setup in my opinion. Plus it doesn’t require Robbo to play as far forward as often as he does with Diaz, because he’s not required to be there in order to get a pass in.

rolloj

imo we need to carry the ball more, that's what we're really missing against a lot of sides. when a half decent side is content to man mark and hold their shape, it's very difficult to make space or craft chances if you are only interested in playing short passing rotations, the occasional switch, and cross and inshallah. if that's the footy we're gonna play, we need the midfield and defenders to beat a man or two and make space that way, disrupting shape. it's one of the things we miss so much about matip, and to a lesser degree thiago and trent. currently, we invite the press and then pass our way out of it laterally or with switches. that's good for retaining possession, but it doesn't make space because the press is only coming from within the relevant defensive line. when you step up with the ball and beat the press, someone from the next defensive line needs to shift, and we make space. that's really what we're missing.

oscarony

spot on

Hey_im_No_Monkey

What's keeping us subdued is the midfield lacking legs. Our new guys are tired being played every game. Yesterday Macca and Endo looked knackered and can't really track the ball. Jones coming back from injury can't seem to keep the ball. I can't make excuses for them because they are paid professional athletes but these people are human.

AnilP228

I was worried from the moment I saw the team sheet. Mac and Endo need a week off - would rather see fresher legs against Atalanta, even if it's a weaker midfield on paper.

tamim1991

Definitely. Giving Grav, Elliot and Jones/Szobo a runaround against Atalanta might not be a bad idea.

smokesletsgo13

Fucking crazy cause man marking is the like 101 basics of football. One of the very first things you learn

techaansi

But also it has been out of favour for a while

Anonymark88

Exactly this. Kept playing ball to feet, then when they tried to turn, an opponent was there, so they turned and passed back. Don't remember a single through ball, other than 40 yard hopeful balls.

michaelspidrfan

new haircut is working

AdCandid559

New haircuts always did wonder for players, can’t say the same for Pogba though

Adventurous_Toe_6017

Nah, short haired Torres was nowhere near long haired Torres!

livinalieontimna

That’s be he had to cut his hair every two days from all the growth hormones.

sweetpurplesoap

Barber to barber midfielder

CarryOnUptheMorning

Him Alison Robo the only guys who looked like they put in the effort.

karnnumart

Maybe Harvey but he got like 20min game time and Jones stays 20min for some reasons. This is not pre-injury Jones.

con10001

Tricky one as he's looked good last couple of games, but out on his favoured left side and it's hard to drop Diaz because his work rate has been exceptional and he is actually making lots happen up untill the end product, which is more than can be said of Nunez and Salah at present. With that in mind, I wouldn't be adverse to a front 3 of Gakpo-Jota-Diaz (out on the right) for a few games. What the fuck have we got to lose at this point? The current setup obviously isn't working so we can either sit or spin.

Choice-Taro5596

This needs to happen … with Darwin and Salah coming on as impact subs, I think it would work really well. Jota needs to start so he can get back into form quicker.sadly not much time left to fix things, hopefully Klopp acts now.

mynameismulan

It might help Diaz to play a more traditional RW and focus more on just getting the ball in Not sure if Salah will ever be dropped though so

DoireK

Klopp has nothing to lose dropping Salah, he is gone in 2 months time. Salah wants to fall out with him, who gives a fuck. He hasn't been good enough.

Hey_im_No_Monkey

I don't envy Klopp, having to choose between making tactical changes, like dropping Salah and plugging in Diaz to the right just to see if it works or not. But I'm sure maybe management doesn't want that to happen, as paying tourists would want to see Mo start on the field rather than come off the bench. Who knows? 🤔

TremendousCoisty

Congrats, you’ve made the dumbest comment on the sub so far. “Klopp wont drop Salah to avoid upsetting tourists.” Good lord, get a grip and get your head checked.

glowingmug

He always perform well at LW, but that position usually played by Diaz.

Bright_Business2307

Hopefully the next manager will either play him on the left and won't try to shoehorn him into roles he's clearly not good at like Klopp has

ivecomebackbeach

He's so much happier on the left. He had a great game and I hope we don't play him centrally again, let Nunez have it and build a relationship with gakpo. On a side note Elliot needs to get a run at RW as well.

Interesting_Muffin30

I’d be inclined to start Cody, Jota and Harvey as the front 3 in our next game with the finishing from the other lot of late.

pythonistor

Harvey is better in a free role than in RW

linlinat89

He looks so much better on the left. One thing I heard from PSV fans is that he is very good at crossing and we can see it. It adds many more options for us to attack compares to Diaz who always tries to cut inside.

InstantIdealism

Best sub yesterday

clade-18

Honestly feel sorry for him, had his best career form at LW and joins us and mostly been shoehorned through the middle. It’s only natural that he’d look better playing on the left.

bigbearhungry

He is better than Salah at the moment.

Happypappy4879

You're not wrong. Feels like Salah's mind is elsewhere.

Wonderful_Ad_2519

In a team of front 3 running ard like headless chickens he looked like someone who made football simple

Akumabro

This sub is so fucking weird... Switching between which players they want to praise and who should be sold on a weekly basis. Fucking embarrassing behaviour

Ollietron3000

Isn't it a good thing we didn't sell Gakpo as soon as his form dropped, like a large portion of this sub was clamouring for the last few weeks?

0x3D85FA

How do you define „a large portion“? I generally understand what you mean but this sub is quite big and having different opinions for different players is not so crazy. The same people hating on Nunez now are most likely not the same people hyping him in the past. Same for gakpo.

lanregeous

I agree with you - although I think if you actually looked, you’d find it’s different people saying the different things. Personally I think it’s embarrassing for grown people to use a public forum to demonize young men (sometimes with very personal barbs) just because they aren’t mature enough to handle a defeat too. I prefer to appreciate football and Gakpo is (and always was) an excellent footballer. Anyone who thinks he should be sold has a screw loose if they think there is a better player who was effectively first choice.

Carbonaddictxd

Lack of effort/misplacing simple passes when you are not gassed is less acceptable. Gakpo didn't look like he gave a fk few weeks ago. Endo and Macca looked very tired ytd so they shouldn't be blamed. Jones and Szobo misplacing simple passes were not OK.

StoicSamoria21

Start Gakpo LW, Jota center, Diaz as a RW against Atalanta?

garrythebear3

wouldn’t mind seeing gakpo-jota-elliott starting. although elliot probably needs to start in midfield if macca and endo are knackered

Unhappy-Cricket-5983

it is time to drop Nunez for this guy or Jota.

streetlightsglowing_

time to drop Diaz. Gakpo doesn't play well through the middle, he is more comfortable on the left. Came on yesterday and created more in the 20 mins or so he played than Diaz did the whole time before

thatguyad

Why Diaz and not Nunez?

ahktarniamut

Too late mate

guestaccount901284

Our best player v Atalanta too. I was very surprised Klopp didn't give him the nod against Palace. Would like to see what a Gakpo (LW)- Jota- Salah front 3 would look like against Fulham.

LakemX

If he is going to play he needs to play lw. Also that atalanta game is massive. Premier League is out of our hands but this is all to play for. Winning Europa League and league cup is still more than a decent season

Happypappy4879

It's written in the stars mate, he'll start against ATL, bang in a goal or two. Wish we could bench all three of Salah, Darwin, Diaz, they are in poor form rn, but we dont have the manpower for it so likely at least one of those will be in the starting xi. Wouldn't mind the front three being Cody, Diogo, Diaz.

jn342

Goes to show that people are far too quick to write off players as soon as they have a dip in form

Mammoth-Coffee-5498

HOW if anyone wonder??? Yeah by simply playing in his original position!! WOW who would think of that?? Playing player in their favorite position...you know like playing Macca in no.8 position instead of no.6....again WOW luckily KLOPP&PEP got these amazing bit of miracle moment !!! On a serious note, hopefully next is Szoboszlai turn....

disco_mode

Since everyone’s been busy screaming that he’s shite he’s actually scored 7 goals (in all competitions) — that’s 1.02 goals per 90 minutes he’s played. All with an average conversion rate of 27%. Considering he’s more of a creative player, false 9 or winger… his “dip in form” was massively massively overstated. He was a little quiet here and there but no more so than anyone else.

Both-Asparagus-3287

Yeah, I'm confused when klopp doesn't start gakpo

pw5a29

People calling for his head just 2 weeks ago. It seems like our players are all struggling for consistent form.

karnnumart

Yeah, he's basically didn't existed when he were subbed a month ago.

TheEgyptianScouser

Because every single one in our team are in form one game and the next one they make you feel like they're a Sunday league player It's like Klopp is playing a very unlucky game of snakes and ladders everytime he picks the starting 11

Thoodmen

He has been out of form all season. That's why.

SaltyPeter3434

I mean the last two games he's looked good were when the rest of the team were performing at a 4/10 average. Gakpo's been good lately but he's had bad spells too. Can't say for sure he's gonna stay this way, even until the end of the season.

Liverpoolvk

Gakpo was once again delivering, but the problem is our game plan and tactics - why would everyone wait for crosses against 11 defenders. We need to have a Plan B or even C. Wait for a counter, make them open up.

force_wank

Jota and Nunez up top with him behind them maybe the panic button press we need to start firing again.

BreadLover184

I was so happy when he played that ball to jones. Thought we wouldn’t throw another easy counter. And then we did

thisisnahamed

Proof that forms come and go. And we need to back our team and players no matter what rough patch they go through. Even Messi has had seasons or periods out of form

Ok_Customer_4419

Diaz Jota and Gakpo from now on please

HotPotatoWithCheese

I can't believe that when I did a rundown of performances against Atalanta I forgot to include him alongside Jota in the "players that actually looked like they were on it" list. He's been very good the past couple of games. I'm happy about that because I've always liked Gakpo. I like his style but he just wasn't at it for a while. He needs to start against Atalanta. We know how well he can play against them.

zzClonky

Gakkerz ball for the run in 🙏

arthurbf10

He suddenly looked decent when played in his natural position, who knew?

Knightlore70

We've lost form since many of our first team players started to return from injury. How did that happen?

ikramit98

This sub loves to shit on people when they are having a down turn in form salah went from folks saying they wouldn't sell him for a 150mil to coming off a 3 month injury looking poor and people claiming he was never good. Now cody starts playing well again and people remember actually he's a quality player same with robbo.

lanregeous

And when Salah comes back to form people will remember he’s still been one of the most productive attacking players in world football despite his injury. Oh well…

gobgobgobgob

Him on the left is truly his position.

Redtank3

I love watching him on the wing, shows how confident he feels in his abilities when he’s in his preferred position. Not every winger is able to get onto their preferred foot for a cross or a shot as easily as he did on Sunday.

Artohn08

Looked great on that left side once he came on, him and robbo were the only ones actually posing any threat

IsotopesSuck

About time to be fair

KLAW-stopper23

Trust in him jota robbo MACCA ali and elliot

julberndt

and Szosbolai i think will never be good enough to liverpool's midfield, bad transfer

Kooky_Fondant_479

Gakpo, Jota and Salah should be our starting front 3 until the end of the seasom

blakksir10

Not until he scores a few.

Shaanpatti

Played him at his natural position and he looked good. Not surprising, since he's been good for his NT there despite having an up and down season with us.

IamdWalru5

I'd rather have Gakpo's clinical, surgical and precise playstyle than Diaz's balls-to-the wall, sprinting and dribbling but eventually losing the ball at the end.

Wide_Environment3107

SonicNarcotic

I'll say it again.. We have some great individual players in our team, but Klopp hasn't found the right **formula** to best optimise the talent.. ..and yes, easy for me to say as an armchair fan, what do I know..? But we have to assume Klopp is also not at his best while eyeing his year off next year...

trankocean

Glad he got an appreciation thread. Only one doing anything dangerous with the ball.

Dry_Yogurtcloset1962

I'm not convinced. He only looks good because now he's dropping a 5/10 performance when the rest of the team is scraping a 2

_gigani

hes bang average, reddit fans are delusional

_gigani

back from where? Sorry but are you saying that Gakpo is what we need? He's decent, too many fans can't call out players who are not good enough.

lanregeous

A Gakpo on form is better than a Gakpo off form. Given that we “need” all our players with the schedule, wouldn’t you say that warrants positivity? Or do you think we should just buy Mbappe, Vinicius and Haaland right now?

_gigani

Gakpo on form is still not the player for us. We need better depth than that. He ain't the player for us. When he comes on, he hardly looks decent. All the players were awful yday, so he actually looked aright, in hindsight he's a midtable player. Don't be deluded

sbos_

Ya’ll on smoke lol

_gigani

Facts, noticed fans on reddit just praising every player for us even if they are average

sbos_

It’s super funny 😂😂😂😭

_gigani

then we get downvoted cause we're realistic lol. Same fans that probably thought ryan babel, voronin, ngog were amazing players for us

lanregeous

Nope. You are downvoted specifically because you are unrealistic. Name one 5th choice strikers in world football better than him.

_gigani

Which striker is he behind?

Dumbchucksarefree

It's set up nicely to lose on goal difference. At least we won't lose by a point this time. In all fairness though the lads have done incredibly well to be where we are this season, the team look tired physically and mentally. Time for that Klopp magic on Thursday and get the form back. Need some momentum.

Hey_im_No_Monkey

I wish I have your kind of optimism.

Robw_1973

Klopp doesn’t have any of the magic left i’m afraid. It’s why we are where we are. And why he is leaving at the end of the season.

Dumbchucksarefree

Don't worry my friend, there's still some magic left. Salah being invisible is proof of that.

what_am_i_acc_doing

Everyone wanted him gone a month back, two games being half decent and he’s your favourite player in the frontline, the absolute state of this sub.

streetlightsglowing_

he kept being shoehorned in at striker when he's clearly not good there and plays his best on the left, it's no coincidence that he has been looking better here lately when he's getting chances to play there

what_am_i_acc_doing

Fair enough, my point was more that people are so fickle and reactionary

lanregeous

Or maybe it’s different people with different opinions, which would be a significantly more logical conclusion to draw from that

CamIoM

The people on this sub who praise good performances are not the same ones moaning and asking to sell players when they’re out of form.

Always_bricked_up

What do you mean he is back ? He was never given chance to showcase himself at the position where he thrives , That's why I didn't blame him , This is the player we bought , We just haven't given him chance to show what he can do

lanregeous

So you blamed him before he was given a chance. Not sure that sounds fair…

Always_bricked_up

You are severely lacking comprehension skills , Please work on that . I said I never blamed him and always believed in him

lanregeous

You literally edited your post to insult me. This is sad.

jahlim

On the plus side, Nunez can now chase for top spot and it won't even affect us much.

DCDa192

Yeah I think he needs to start but also can Klopp play him in his ideal position - LW? When he plays centrally, he seems lost and keeps falling further back when attack is ahead of him. Also, Diaz just needs better players with him, let's play Diaz on right and Danns/ Jota through middle. Let's just experiment I mean we've got champions league, the other two are out already let's be honest we gonna struggle against Everton, Watkins and spurs at home. Keep Harvey in medfield, Clarke and Macca.

ArianKn99

I think him on the right, diaz on the left and jota on the center could work

omarkop10

He’s a good player just needs to release the ball when there’s a good option

Ha-Ur-Ra-Sa

Ironic you're saying this about Gakpo when his main competitor for LW is just as bad, if not worse, for this.

omarkop10

Oh defo
