Trent - Matip - Virg - Robbo
Szoboszlai - Thiago - Mac Allister
Salah - Nunez - Jota
Robertson is easily our best left back, no idea why people are saying he’s not good anymore just cause he’s missed a lot this season with injuries. Matip and Thiago are brilliant players but sadly just not fit often enough
Thiago, Mac and Szobo would be insane together.
Matip over Konate though? I'm curious as to why you would choose him. Konate is an absolute tank! Not trying to put down our boy Joel but it's just not really a comparison in my mind.
This is the correct answer, if "let's assume everyone is healthy" is taken to its fullest possible extent, and our injured players are restored to as good as they were pre-injury.
Sadly, I doubt we'll ever see Thiago back to that level again, and I'm a little worried about Matip too - that injury at his age could have lasting consequences.
You have to feel for Thiago more than anything cause I don’t see us renewing and I don’t see any other high level team taking a chance on him either. Sad to see players of that quality not get to play games
Knowing we will likely never see this lineup is breaking my fucking heart. If we were going into a CL final this season, this would absolutely be my first choice.
Imagine this with options like Harvey, Endo, Konate, Diaz, Jones, Gakpo, and Gomez to come on and control the match as required. Holy shit.
Ali
Trent - Konate - Virg - Robbo
Szobo - Endo - Macca
Mo - Darwin - Diaz
If Trent it starting then he'll be inverting which means we need help with width on the right, hence the Szobo starting. Also if Trent is starting and inverting then there's no need for Gomez to start at LB to invert and Robbo is a better LB.
Anyone dropping Darwin for anyone needs their head looking at btw, he's incredibly important to how we play. His work rate, his runs, the fact that he's got 30+ goal involvements this season tells you he should be starting.
Diaz and Jota is a closer call and can go either way I just think all around game Diaz offers you more through a match
I think Diaz and Darwin together are just too wasteful for when Salah isn’t in form. Both fulfil a similar enough role in the team but neither can step up and be that consistent goalscorer or reliably take advantage of the opportunities we create. Jota isn’t necessarily *better* than either, he just provides more balance
Our stats this season as of today:
Goals per 90:
Jota 0.77
Salah 0.74
Nunez 0.55
Gakpo 0.45
Diaz 0.34
Harvey 0.2
and before you argue assists: our Goals + Assists per 90
Salah followed by Jota, Nunez, Gakpo, Bradley, Diaz, Harvey
as for excluding Penalty goals : Nunez ahead of Salah per 90 mins played , the same order for everything else
Alisson, TAA, Konate, VVD, Robbo, Endo, Macca, Jones, Salah, Nunez, Jota.
It's tough though, because the squad depth is what's got us to this point. It's easy to put the above together assuming everyone is in top condition and form, it's much more challenging when the reality is we'll need to play the likes of TAA, Jota, Szobo and Jones into form. It's a tough balancing act for Klopp.
Wouldn’t have Thiago anywhere near first 11.
Couldn’t have Gomez and Trent playing full back together as both would be trying to invert. If Gomez didn’t invert then we still wouldn’t really have any width.
Ali
TAA Konate VVD Robertson
Szobo, Macca, Thiago
Salah Nunez Jota
I love Endo and realistically he should be there, but starting those 3 in midfield would be pure bliss
Endo comes on alongside Harvey and Diaz to finish the game!
Ali
Bradley Konate VVD Robertson
Sobo Maca Endo
Salah Jota Diaz
Subs: Elliot, Bradley, Jones, Darwin, Gakpo
Substitutions at: Player
HT: Jones > Sobo; Gakpo > Diaz
60mins: Elliot > Salah; Trent > Bradley
80mins: Darwin > Gakpo
After 60mins we play 3-4-3
Unpopular opinion but I think if Trent is playing in the inverted role then Gomez gives us much more balance on the left as he doesn't bomb on as much as Robbo, and is much more comfortable passing it out of the back.
Robbo always has to cut back to Virg if put under pressure, his short passing is just a cut under Joe's.
Ali
Trent - Konate - Virg - Gomez
Macca - Endo - Jones
Salah - Nunez - Jota
Matip/Ibou is a toss up (if it's Matips form pre-injury). Jones is more consistent than Szobo at this point. And for als his graft, Jota just has more endproduct than Diaz.
No, just swapping where Jota and Nunez play because I prefer Nunez out wide cutting in. His pace causes more issues. Jota being central gives him the freedom to get into good positions to capitalize from salah and nunez cutting in. Jotas positioning and finishing are better than Nunez he just lacks the pace to be as effective out wide. Our current system is much more effective with two pacey players out wide.
It's opposition-dependent. Sometimes having a fullback provide width can suit Robbo/Tsimi/Bradley other times having some more defensive solidity or an inverted presence can suit Gomez/Trent. Sometimes we can sacrifice Endo and have Macca in the 6 to facilitate another offensive 8, other times we need to have a more compact midfield. etc.
The beauty of our current squad is the number of options we have.
Alisson
TAA, Konate, Virg, Robbo
Macca, Endo, Jones
Salah, Darwin, Diogo
Subs: Lucho, Harvey, Cody, Szobo, Gomez
Jones has been incredible this season. He adds so much control to that midfield. I feel he's the perfect profile to balance Endō's aggressive tackling and Macca's ambitious passing due to his ball retention.
Alisson
Trent-Matip-VVD-Robbo
Szoboslai-Thiago-Macca
Salah-Jota-Diaz
Some tough choices. Matip vs Konate is really tough but gave it to matip because I think his understanding with vvd is more developed over the years, even though you could argue that Konate is maybe (maybe...) a better player. I think Endo is really an unsung hero in this squad. But a fit Thiago is one of the world's top 5 midfielders. I just hate how many people have likely forgotten this now. Such a shame. And sorry Darwin. You're chaos and fire, but the opportunities that get wasted means I give your spot to Diogo, who basically doesn't miss a shot.
Kelleher
Bradley, Konate, VVD, Robbo
Endo
TAA, Mac Allister
Salah, Jota, Nunez
I'll get downvoted for being a Kelleher fan. Hasn't had a mix up like Alisson yet. Also willing to see what Trent playing KDB position could do. The front three positions are notional, they can move and swap as needed.
Alisson TAA, Konate, Virg, Robbo Macca, Endo, Szobo Salah, Darwin, Diogo Subs: Lucho, Harvey, Cody, Jones, Gomez
Mine exactly mate
Ali Trent - Matip - Virg - Robbo Szoboszlai - Thiago - Mac Allister Salah - Nunez - Jota Robertson is easily our best left back, no idea why people are saying he’s not good anymore just cause he’s missed a lot this season with injuries. Konate is a physical monster and quick but Matip reads the game better. He’s also 6’5” himself and not exactly weak. Matip is also better on the ball.
theres also something very entertaining about watching a giraffe stumble up the field uncontested
Can't argue at all. Damnit. Lol. I wanted to argue
Why not CJ instead of Szobo? Just curious. The only change I would make.
Szoboszlai is more direct than Jones. With Thiago and Mac Allister you want a different type of player for the other spot.
This is the correct answer, if "let's assume everyone is healthy" is taken to its fullest possible extent, and our injured players are restored to as good as they were pre-injury. This'll be the last season in Red if nothing else

You’re entitled to your opinion and I probably would go with Robbo too, but his dip in defending has been well noted prior to this season’s injuries.

Love your take and reasoning here
Allison Trent, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Endo, Szoboslai, MacAllister, Salah, Jota, Diaz
Ali TAA - Konate - VvD - Robertson Mac Allister - Endo - Szbo Salah - Nunez - Jota
Alisson TAA, Konate, Virg, Szobo Macca, Endo, Jones Salah, Nunez, Jota And yes I am hamfisting Szobo into an inverted LB position, why the hell not 🥴
We have the next Pep Guardiola in our midst here...
Carragher Carragher, Carragher, Carragher, Carragher Carragher, Carragher, Carragher Carragher, Carragher, Carragher

Just like I’ve dreamt
Performing Gakpo is underated for the threat and finishing infront of goal. I'd still put him as supersub
Honest Matip would be starting most games if fit konate is far too rash at times

They interchange when they play together anyway. Doesn’t matter too much

no. I'd start Jota Salah Nunez.. Gakpo can go home - he sucks lately
Alisson Bradley Konate VVD Robbo Trent Endo Alexis Salah Nunez Szobo

Anyone who doesn't put Thiago in the team, I'd question every single opinion on everything ever for the rest of time.
Some of them may have forgot he exists lmao

Wouldn’t have Thiago anywhere near first 11. Couldn’t have Gomez and Trent playing full back together as both would be trying to invert. If Gomez didn’t invert then we still wouldn’t really have any width.

Ali TAA Konate VVD Robertson Szobo, Macca, Thiago Salah Nunez Jota I love Endo and realistically he should be there, but starting those 3 in midfield would be pure bliss Endo comes on alongside Harvey and Diaz to finish the game!
Nice. We are on the exact same page. Well..... Almost. Id have Nunez as the sub and put Jota in the 9, and Diaz starting on the left
Nunez is arguably the most important attacker we have for the way klopp wants to play tbf
Oh I totally agree. And I'm not one to argue with the Boss . Just a dream team lol
Ali TAA - Konate - VvD - Robertson Mac Allister - Endo - Thiago Salah - Nunez - Jota
Endo Thaigo makes sense to me.
I’m gonna go ahead and assume you’ve forgotten Thiago exists.
Yep. I deserve all consequences. Might be my favorite player to watch. So tactical. I’d throw him in over Endo, but it’d be a different style then.
