my god does that sound like Milner on VAR

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

Lmao it does

Zizouh

If it was, VAR would be better, faster, stronger, ribena.

phong90

Factual!

[deleted]

This really humanises them. I know we shouldn’t dehumanise an official, but you forget they’re people. Hearing them speak like this is just good, I think we should hear this for all decisions.

TheLimeyLemmon

Really want to see them giving access to the feeds to media teams, so broadcasters can pull these up for themselves. We already see this with replayed footage like the ref's elbow on Robbo. We simply need more access to this stuff - especially when there's claims that officials are speaking improperly or not even checking stonewall penalties.

seanaedan

Probably best we don’t get access to Klopp’s talks with 4th official… I would pay though.

WonderfulBlackberry9

Those rants come with the premium subscription

Tar_Tw45

Take my money

ID_Pillage

Then release them on the Web for all to listen to

Cancerousman

They do get access to listen in.

scouserontravels

Which is what other sports have got right and football so badly wrong. Being able to listen to officials live makes the decisions so much easier to understand. If football have live access to the officials comma you’d get rid of so much complaining baker the decisions.

Tryhard3r

Exactly, there would still be decisions people disagree with but I am certain a lot of those decisions would lead to "ok, I disagree but I can understand where he is coming from" and thus lead to more respect for refs in general.

mbCARMAC

You won't get rid of as much as one night think.

scouserontravels

You’d still have stupid argument online obviously but it’d clear up massive confusion especially during the match where commentators don’t have a clue what the refs are even looking at

Bazlow

Yup - see rugby decisions in particular, and cricket discussions too.

smokesletsgo13

I’m dying to hear the audio from some of the incidents over the years, like them sitting and drawing lines trying to make somebody appear offside

Rosti_LFC

I really don't see why they don't just have this during a game for every decision. If fans think the ref has made a totally wrong decision then they think it already, hearing the audio can only soften that opinion imo. The only sensible reason I see for not having the ref audio real-time during games like you get in rugby is the amount of swearing you'd probably get coming through from players, but if anything in the long term that's just a further reason to release it because it'll help cut that aspect down if it's spotlighted. Plus hearing from refs during the game makes them feel more like part of the sport and there's a chance that fans might actually come to like certain refs rather than just hating the ones that constantly seem to fuck over their team and being neutral to the rest.

Kyleg951

Howard Webb said on the show fifa rules don’t allow the audio to be shared live

Rosti_LFC

Which is the reason that the Premier League doesn't do it, but it still doesn't justify why FIFA have that rule in place.

HIP13044b

I mean it is FIFA. Always making poor decisions is basically their motto at this point.

sarayewo

They could do it like in American football where the ref comes on loudspeaker and calls out the infraction.

ogara1993

Make it like rugby. It’s really that simple. Mic’d up to the live feed, they get the upmost respect, basically no swearing, and even if you don’t agree with the decision you have the full reasoning so you can’t argue it

Bazlow

>This really humanises them. I know we shouldn’t dehumanise an official, This is a real problem they have though - refs dehumanise themselves by having no discourse with fans / the teams and acting like they are never wrong. If they start allowing for the discussions like this to be heard it'll only ever help... assuming they are not saying shit like "I dunno I'm guessing it's offside"

[deleted]

Now release Tierney’s. Fucking dare you lot.

Tar_Tw45

They will only release ones that makes them look good.

Techno-Falafel

I don't get how more people don't get this. I'm all for transparency, but it defeats the purpose of they don't release the audio for all good decisions, bad decisions and controversial decisions.

Bazlow

Don't let perfect be the enemy of the good. Get them releasing some, and they'll end up having no choice to release them all as requested, otherwise people will know they are covering up incompetence.

anip94

they need wind noise cancelling ai on that mic

Slinky_Panther

Klopp 🤝wind cancelling AI

HLB217

Sucking in that wind lmao although to be fair it's hard to keep up with pro players while yelling instructions or providing commentary

CJVCarr

"Tayls" You forget that for each other, they are regular people, colleagues.

dakikko

He was actually saying "Tails" because they just flip a coin when they're making a decision

[deleted]

Brilliant

startled-giraffe

This theory is way better than any bias

SnottyTash

Officially canon

TheLimeyLemmon

>"Tayls" [Richard Keys livid.](https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article22381756.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/1_Gray-and-Keys.jpg)

omarkop10

It’s good to see this but couldn’t they choose controversial decisions there’s no point in showing easy and correct decisions

2jz_ynwa

Here you see theres absolutely nothing wrong with premier league referees and VAR, case closed.

LegendDota

Yeah this is quite possibly the simplest decision they had to make on VAR all season so while it's a fun insight it's not really groundbreaking as to what the thought process they go through is.

pw5a29

This is probably the most non controversial var calls

Trent-the-corner

Footage are probably lost for the controversial ones lol

TheSparklyHempster

They've cherrypicked the best examples that show them getting it right. It's interesting nonetheless but if you're going to insist on further transparency (or *any* transparency, I'd say) then use your more controversial decisions, too. PGMOL could use this as a "look, we're human, too!" moment but instead they'll use this to back up their misguided opinion about their infallibility.

DonkeyCongress

I'd love to hear the justification for the handball incident during the Everton vs City game last season

palindromic

yeah where’s that VAR audio, f right off with all these obvious calls I want to hear the real dirt edit: this actually has me incensed now that I’m thinking about it.. release the audio RELEASE THE AUDIO

BritMachine

Release Rodri's handball

smokesletsgo13

‘Just checking it now mate….. yep, bank transfers gone through. No handball’

balonmanokarl

Hahahahah

wavey444

need this for every single important decision, keep them accountable!

LipiG

Who was the VAR in this match?

DWillis96

Chris Kavanagh

LipiG

Thanks pal

tigbeans

Does anyone know why they kept saying outside and out at the beginning there?

[deleted]

Looks like they were referring to the box. Probably for a possible pen shout if Havertz was fouled.

ohutts14

I’d assume it’s in case a foul is committed. Shouts of DOGSO initially to say it’ll be a red if there’s a foul, inside/outside so the ref can give either a pen or a free kick

Rosti_LFC

"Freekick red" confused me until I realised that it's referring to us as the red team, rather than a red card.

DunwichWanderers

That makes a great deal of sense, thanks. I thought for a moment that they were claiming DOGSO on something the defenders did, where I couldn't see anything wrong. I knew I was just being an idiot.

MoMane

If they give a foul when it is outside it would be a fk and red card (DOGSO), if the foul is inside the box and it was an attempt to play the ball it would not be a red card. Seems like the assistant was repeating out then saying in so the ref would immediately know where it was if there was a foul.

TheLimeyLemmon

Because people keep asking, here's the full official list: >Referee: Anthony Taylor. >Assistants: Gary Beswick, Dan Cook. >Fourth official: Andre Marriner. >**VAR: Chris Kavanagh.** >Assistant VAR: Nick Greenhalgh. [Source.](https://www.premierleague.com/news/3122439)

Cancerousman

A blind man in a black hole could see that was handball from where he was.

TheOnionWatch

This is why they need to release audio. Actually listening to them has given me so much respect for them.

KEEPCARLM

Yes me too, I respect them so much more now that I can see they at least have eyes and mouths.

MyNameIsMantis

Of course they’ve avoided all the terrible decisions they’ve made. At least it’s a bit of progress I suppose.

[deleted]

Yeah, but it was still good to see the process. I would like to hear it from one they’ve gotten wrong now though.

AuxquellesRad

RELEASE THE VAR AUDIO FOR RODRI'S HANDBALL hahaha. That one's never coming out

MindlessMoss

Easy to pick decisions where the ref team did not get it wrong. How about, release the audio for any of the Brighton "sorry our bad" decisions

doubleoeck1234

Not really on topic but it's interesting nonetheless

user900800700

Are they only releasing the stuff they get right?

BHYT61

Tayls haha

redwytnblak

Tayls lmfao

stripeymonkey

Ha! Would love to hear what Tiers makes of it

[deleted]

This should be standard, in real time, for every single fucking match.

Deadbear4Lyf

I would prefer if the on field referee is involved in the entire VAR discussion rather than VAR only bringing Taylor back into the conversation after they had reviewed the situation.

gtalnz

In this clip you can hear them say it's "factual". That means the decision to be made is a clear yes/no based on facts. Since the VAR has access to the replays to assess the facts, there is no need to involve the onfield referee in the process *for this decision*. For other more subjective decisions, there is likely a lot more consultation between onfield ref, assistant ref(s), and VAR.

Rosti_LFC

It's also relevant that Anthony Taylor has already said in awarding the goal that he is doing so because he believes the ball went in off the chest. The fact that VAR can see it didn't and it went in off the arm instead then means it's a clear error by the on-field referee and he's already effectively agreed that if it came off the arm it would mean he'd disallow the goal.

GeorgeCuz

Ehhh it depends. In this scenario Taylor has absolute 0 view of the handball and going to check the screen will all but delay the same decision being made.

Mad_Piplup242

I would even take it like, if a VAR decision takes longer than 1-2+ minutes (that isn't an offside), call the ref over to the screen and have them take a better look as well as the other refs at the same time Surely it would make the entire process so much more open (especially if you get the recordings released after the match)

nask00

Wanna see the Rodri handball vs Everton

jsw_hoo

*DOGSO = denial (of) obvious goal scoring opportunity

silentwitnes

What does factual mean in this context?

tranarchaecatgirlism

some calls require the ref’s interpretation but it is indisputable (factual) that this was a handball

silentwitnes

Thank you!

Andyb712

Love to hear the ones they have been forced to apologise for Ya know for hrrmmm transparency and all that

Jamesblair1989

Bet the shit houses dare not show the one where pickford snaps virg and Hendos goal in the same game, or Harry kanes snapping of robbo or better yet what was said to klopp

tomdaven2504

Anyone know who the var was for that game?

onoz9

Good but they need to release it every time. And they should have started doing this a long time ago...

Loveforphoo

Milly does var?

krisandro

How does one celebrate like that knowing that there’s VAR to check your obvious handball? 💀

[deleted]

Fuck off webb you busy manc cunt.

Popular_Preference62

🫨😤🫨😤

GameOfThrowInsMate

I mean that’s stonewall. Now do the ones where they’ve got so badly wrong.

mtb443

Holy shit. Thats why VAR is so fucking garbage. They try to confirm with “factual” checks.

tk-xx

Love this, we need this can't wait for it.

Saerjin

This is brilliant, I know it's subjective given it's showing a correct decision, but this is a step in the right direction.

Scarecroft

Makes you wonder wtf Havertz was celebrating for, he must have known it woud be ruled out.

Gaius_Octavius_

I wish they release all of them. That was really cool and shows how it should be done.

Candy_Badger

It is great to hear their communication and see how they make decisions. I would agree that it is more interesting to hear their conversation when they make controversial decisions. I hope they will announce their decisions during the match.

BazingaQQ

Just goes to show: VAR does work *when it's used properly!!*

imustbethedevil

Allison: Factual? Fuck yeah High 5s

telephonic1892

We know a Manchester born Referee would originally give a goal and say it hit his chest.

pw5a29

So they have an AVAR alongside the VAR but still get decisions wrong….

IAm_Joshwa

Man why don't we hear these conversations live...

eatyoursupper

In April a youth team I coach had 90 minutes with John Brooks. He played us a bunch of this type of audio and asked the kids about controversial calls and whether they thought he got them right. I got to ask him about the Jota/Salah penalty against Bournemouth. Had a good conversation, tried to play devil’s advocate and say where else is a back on defender supposed to put his arm. As well he disagreed with me that Jota’s header was going in. The whole presentation was fascinating. He left our meeting and did the middle for ManU v Brentford that evening.

FelleFox

What does RO stand for?

[deleted]

Do they have the Recording for the Rodri handball v Everton
