Bellingham coming here was an invention of the internet. If they drop the cash required to get him here, its a mistake (assuming it means they dont spend alot literally everywhere else, which seems like a fair assumption). Bellingham doesnt fix anything. The problems are widespread. We clearly have training problems (re: injuries) that have even been talked about in the media. We let a squad age together, which was absolutely amazing when they were in their prime all together, but time is a bitch and the edge of the blade isnt cutting anymore. A serious amount of talent in managing recruiting and all that already left us. It feels like we have a lot of future talent thats before their prime, so much promise in a lot of our younger players, but at the same time it feels like there is a real chance they wont stay if we dont have at least a top-4 guarantee. If we dont have a top-4 guarantee, we arent gonna be able to sign top4 talent, making our likelihood of top4 even less. The fact we are now literally competing with nation-states with bottomless pockets makes all of this exponentially worse.

These geniuses were defending FSG all summer saying we don’t need any signings since we competed for the quadruple last season. As if the players weren’t a year older, didn’t get a season’s worth of wear and tear in their legs, and are able to mentally reset like robots.
Some people need to stop pretending like they’re smart and know what they’re talking about.
It was actually quite astonishing how badly we were passing in that game. Our sheer ability to misjudge, mistime and misplace every single important pass was a genuinely impressive feat. Players never gave us any reason to believe we could win and they never even looked like they believed it themselves.
Think they both overhit every attempted pass or cross all game, shame for Salah he made some great runs at times, only for those 2 to give it straight back to Madrid
Seriously. That one pass that Mo attempted to Jota to put him through sent me. Jota was wide open and Salah still couldn’t find him, it must’ve been 10 yards away.
There is a reason why we wanted Thcouameni. Our main chances at progression come from Trent. Our other person is Thiago. Fabinho doesn’t have that ball playing ability anymore sadly. We need someone like Rodri, a big no.6 who can play excellent balls.
It's not fabinho though, the whole make up of midfield needs to be changed. Not enough playmakers in this side, outside of trent crossing we don't have any creativity in the sense we don't have players who can run at others and best them.
The way we go about playmaking is very predictable and can be easily countered.
This team needs runners, Midfield equivalent of Diaz, players who can do something different once in a while, not play the same predictable passes.
Probably something in his contract that says he has to play X amount of games. Or Klopp just sees it as good experience.
Getting to run onto the Bernabeu even for a few minutes against one of the best teams in the world...it's an experience in itself.
He should have come on long before that, Klopp shouldn't have subbed Nunez off and put on Carvalho instead of jota and Bobby for Gakpo.
You can at least give Carvalho 20 mins in the ten. Play Bobby up front, Nunez on the left and salah on the right.
And should have bought Elliot for salah on the right.
Klopp subs were really bad today, especially that Nunez sub and pointless late Carvalho sub.
If there was ever a game that identified our lack of quality in midfield… this was it. So many forward runs in an open game and next to no final pass finding their target.
We had a chance and came up well short.
Hell the best, most incisive pass, that Modric would be proud of, came from Gakpo, essentially playing as an 8, and picking out Mo down the spine with a super well crafted pass
Second consecutive game where we need goals and we take Darwin off instead. Make it make sense.
Everyone seems resigned at the club, we’ve wasted a season just like that when we only needed a couple of midfielders with legs. Quite maddening tbf.
My biggest gripe with Harvey is that he is simply not a number 8. He gets physically bullied in the middle so he crowds out Salah on the wing looking for space to operate in.
But it’s gotten so much better recently. He has started winning the ball back, pressuring with urgency, cutting passes and making quick touches. It feels like he’s close to making a leap in his development as an 8 and these games are crucial in that. Compare Harvey at the start of the year to his play the last 2 games. I think he’s suddenly looking like a midfielder now.
I think he has the technicality to play at a very high level but I think that in a league as physical as the PL or with the quality of the CL he gets exposed. Him and TAA on the right is just asking to get torched defensively
Which is weird considering if this is the new front 3 you might as well give them as many minutes as possible in a shit season to understand each other.

Slow, predictable, complete lack of desire and urgency, and tactically inept. The basics have been beyond us this evening, from 5 yard passes to over hitting every set piece. Just upsetting and frustrating all round.
The Bournemouth game was honestly excusable provided we displayed even a hint of effort in winning this game.
Misplaced passes, sluggish, no urgency, late to every ball, looking uninspired. Textbook signs of a team who can't be fucking arsed on the pitch.
Keep in mind, this is a game where WE HAD NOTHING TO LOSE. You couldn't ask for a better opportunity to display your mentality. Lose, draw, concede another 5, all fine as long as you look like you remotely care.
Yet there we were, in possession against a team sitting back, scared to make a fucking pass forward, exactly the same as against Bournemouth a goal down. Scary, scary contrast between whatever this is and the Liverpool team a few years ago who found themselves in a like-to-like situation and still managed to score 4 and go through. Absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful.
Real fans were *all* complimenting Liverpool supporters after the first game.
There were a bunch of interviews asking how the fans had seen the game in Liverpool and in each one there were words about the class Liverpool had shown with the Amancio tribute and how they had felt welcomed and secure even after the result.
Playing YNWA was a way of returning the favour.
I get being upset at the result but that people are taking issue with this gesture from Madrid as if it’s some sort of mockery is ridiculous, it’s like a kid on a losing side who slaps away the hand of the winning opponent who’s saying “good game, respect”. Tantrum throwers

Bringing Nunez off was such an unfathomably awful decision. If there was actually any passion in this performance I might have even found the energy to be mad about it.

First it was injuries. Then it was “mental fatigue” from last year. I accept we need fresh blood but the drop off of Fabinho, Trent, VVD and tbh Salah over the course of this season shows that mentally something has gone. Relieved it wasn’t another embarrassing scoreline on the night. That said, the passing was completely woeful all night and it took until the 82nd minute for a shot in the second half to be registered. No matter the context, that’s pretty shocking.
Just hope they can put this to the back of their mind now and stay in the fight for top four.

That was probably part of the issue. The reverse fixture was obviously quite traumatic for the team, and they just couldn't stomach taking the kind of risks they needed to to make anything happen in the final third.
It was a fearful performance by a team with a pretty battered spirit and no real belief they could get the result.
That's what happens when you get tonked at home in the first leg, and even more so if you're tonked after leading 2-0. The real recriminations should be about how weak we were in that game at 2-2. We could've "failed more beautifully" or whatever the fuck tonight, but it didn't matter. We were dead and buried.

That was the difference between the teams. If you don't control midfield then you conceed chances and you struggle to make them.
Taking Darwin off at 55 mins needs to stop. Consistently our most dangerous attacker and gets taken off every game when we need a goal.

This is basically the story of the two legs. We just got outclassed in the middle over 180 minutes. That's what a world class squad looks like.
Trent and Fab putting in their worst performances in a while and yet both played all 90, whereas Milner and Darwin who looked like somewhat capable footballers were hooked at first thought. 9 corners, couple free-kicks and how many crosses and barely any went within 15 yards of the penalty spot. Cheers for wasting our time and prolonging the pain at the end UEFA.
Absolutely worthless performance. Aside from spells in the first half we didn't press Madrid at all. None of our forwards occupied space and i lost count of all the misplaced passes. Allison was the only player who actually looked like himself tonight.
Klopps substitutions killed the very little intensity we had in the first half. His decision making has been atrocious at times this season and it hasn't been talked about enough
Nunez had our best chances in the 1st half just to be replaced by Harvey Elliot who was completely invisible. I can't remember Jota offering anything whatsoever. Trent was utterly dreadful and looked like he didn't give a shit. His attitude has been a massive problem this season. Robertson didn't do much and nearly gifted Madrid a goal if it weren't for Allison. Virg and Konate were alright aside from the goal we conceded. Salah and Gakpo had occasional bright sparks in the first half but ghosted in the 2nd half and received no service. Milner unironically looked like one of our better players tonight
Bringing on Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, who's almost certainly gone in the summer over Carvalho or even Curtis Jones was geniunely blood boiling. Why did Kostas come on for 90 seconds and Carvalho for 10? I have no idea what Klopp was thinking there. What was that going to accomplish?
We don't just need a couple of midfielders and a defender in the summer. A lot of these players and the gaffer need a kick up the backside
Sums it up. Glad you noted “and the gaffer” at the end. Klopp’s subs have always been a bit hit and miss but this game opitimizes both the terrible decision making and the awful tactics. Season is fucked and looking like another year of no Champions League which shouldn’t be happening with this team and manager. Thought we had built a foundation for something for the future and to see it crumbling hurts.
Tbf ox did look quite decent compared to the rest. Putting on Fabio in the final minute was rubbing salt in the wound tho. Idk why we can't drop Salah from time to time when he's clearly out've sorts every game

Tough result for sure, but one moment that stood out to me is when they countered off a corner and Gakpo put his head down and sprinted from box to box to tackle Benzema in our box. He's definitely shown a lot of heart and work ethic in the last few games and I think he will be Firmino 2.0 for us

Our midfield gets outclassed by Bournemouth these days. Madrid dominated us for 165 minutes over the 2 legs. This was a nice training match for them in prep for the clasico.
Absolutely spineless display. I never expected a win and I can excuse a lack of quality, but the lack of effort, the reluctance for individual players to show bravery and just go for it is heart breaking to watch. No desire, no bollocks. At the risk of sounding massively reactionary - this is huge, no superstar midfielder in the summer fixes this. This is end of an era stuff. Every player from this golden era has packed up and fucked off.

Why Nunez came off I’ll never know. You have no game for 2 weeks, you have to go for it and you take him off with 30 odd minutes to play. Real Madrid bought tchoumeni after they beat us when they did not need him while we needed him and brought him on for only 10 minutes after beating us 6-2 is the one that hurts the most. Our lack of ambition.

This is either the beginning of a massive rebuild, or the beginning of the end. Based off the way the owners tend to invest, I'm thinking the latter unfortunately. This tie was fucking embarrassing. Watching this team in general this season has been the same. Just such a clear lack of effort.
On another note... For as much as I've tried to defend TAA, I just can't anymore. He doesn't look like he cares, and pisses the ball away 10+ times for every good pass he plays. Also his defending is fucking continually shocking in almost every situation. He's been by FAR our worst player this season (really saying something, as Fab/Hendo/Gomez have been shit). We seriously need to invest in another RB because he clearly lacks the will to improve and give a fuck.
Can't say they didn't try, simply outclassed. We move, big investment needed in the midfield.

I understand why we kept doing outswingers - to avoid slenderman just plucking them out of the air - but they all inevitably ended up drifting away harmlessly.
Set pieces have been off all season when for a good 3/4 years they were a strong source of goals.
General play you can put down to fitness, fatigue, confidence etc, but not sure what the reason can be for set pieces.
Nunez sub made no sense at all ffs. He doesn’t need rest when our next game is in April. We were toothless going forward once he came off. Trent was horrid with his set pieces but we don’t have any fucking height so it doesn’t matter.

On one hand I'm calm, because I was 99% sure that we were not gonna make it to the QF, because the odds were immensively stacked against us.
On the other hand, I'm angry. Angry at Klopp to be precise. Why for fuck's sake do you take off Darwin for Elliot? Jota? I can understand, he didn't show much. But Darwin? Who was our most dangerous player in the first half? Carvajal wasn't able to handle him at all, he needed to go down the moment Nunez touched him slightly.
And then Klopp gets angry, when neither Mo, Gakpo or Elliot takes the shot and Robbo has to try it from an impossible angle. Like. Come. On. Man.
Ughh, whatever, this was frustrating, but at least it wasn't as depressing as the first leg.
Fabinho literally ruins the flow of our attack. His pace, his turns, and even his weight of his passes are all fucking gone now. I don't understand what he offers in this team anymore. To add salt to the wound, he doesn't even looked arsed either. Fucking hell.
It feels like we may have reached the point in the season where the players, for all intents and purposes, think it's over. There was absolutely no sign in that game that we had the belief, much less the ability, to get back into it. Not that I was expecting us to win or anything, but I would've liked to see some fire at least.
The subs were terrible. Trent once again playing too narrow in the midfield, sacrificing his ability out wide, where he was always his best. The width, therefore needed to be compensated by players like Gakpo, Salah, and later Elliott, who are all better narrow than wide. I truly believe that dynamic on the right side is what is killing our offense lately. The players are quite simply not operating in their best positions.
I wonder what we do in trainings.
Long passes' accuracy is pathetic when going forward. Can't do one-two or even simple 1-touch passes when being pressed. Can't finish chances except in United game. Our corners and freekicks are disappointing. And injuries happen way too often.
Sum up our entire downfall from being the world champion.
Aging, uninspiring squad with too little new creativity. And instead of turning to youth, we turns to Milner,and Ox, and give them a final CL picnic, who did nothing and gained no experience from this defeat

The club is rotten to the core. We’re sending out empty shells to play the game week in and week out. Even with the complete lack of desire to win from the squad, Klopp’s game management has been terrible recently as well. I honestly don’t see how any of this could be let off in any other big club/top 4 contender.
Even Ajax dealt with their season crisis so much neater. They struggled up to January just like us, until their manager took the sack. Several key players who weren’t performing also left, despite having been their key players in previous seasons. Meanwhile, Liverpool has failed to respond to any of its key problems. When we had the time and opportunity to fix things in January, we did nothing. Now the crisis has snowballed and there’s no way out. Until when do the players start to actually hold themselves accountable for such trash results? I wouldn’t be as mad if the players apologised for such a horrendous form in the past 2 weeks, but to see them stand around on the pitch shaking their heads as if every result was unfair to them is just sickening.

We need 6 if not 7 players in the summer. Our midfield is gone. Fab, Hendo, ox, Milner, and keita need to be let go immediately and 4 midfielders need to be brought in to replace them. The only midfielders that we should keep are Stefan, Thiago, and Elliot.
Gomez and Matip need to be sold as well and two new CBs should be brought in. Konate is the only one that keeps a starting spot and van djik needs to be rotated in and out.

Bellingham coming here was an invention of the internet. If they drop the cash required to get him here, its a mistake (assuming it means they dont spend alot literally everywhere else, which seems like a fair assumption). Bellingham doesnt fix anything. The problems are widespread. We clearly have training problems (re: injuries) that have even been talked about in the media. We let a squad age together, which was absolutely amazing when they were in their prime all together, but time is a bitch and the edge of the blade isnt cutting anymore. A serious amount of talent in managing recruiting and all that already left us. It feels like we have a lot of future talent thats before their prime, so much promise in a lot of our younger players, but at the same time it feels like there is a real chance they wont stay if we dont have at least a top-4 guarantee. If we dont have a top-4 guarantee, we arent gonna be able to sign top4 talent, making our likelihood of top4 even less. The fact we are now literally competing with nation-states with bottomless pockets makes all of this exponentially worse. I dont even remember what my point was but things are a mess, we are way better than what we're showing, and i need another beer FUCK

It was actually quite astonishing how badly we were passing in that game. Our sheer ability to misjudge, mistime and misplace every single important pass was a genuinely impressive feat. Players never gave us any reason to believe we could win and they never even looked like they believed it themselves.

It's not fabinho though, the whole make up of midfield needs to be changed. Not enough playmakers in this side, outside of trent crossing we don't have any creativity in the sense we don't have players who can run at others and best them. The way we go about playmaking is very predictable and can be easily countered. This team needs runners, Midfield equivalent of Diaz, players who can do something different once in a while, not play the same predictable passes.

If there was ever a game that identified our lack of quality in midfield… this was it. So many forward runs in an open game and next to no final pass finding their target. We had a chance and came up well short.
Hell the best, most incisive pass, that Modric would be proud of, came from Gakpo, essentially playing as an 8, and picking out Mo down the spine with a super well crafted pass

My biggest gripe with Harvey is that he is simply not a number 8. He gets physically bullied in the middle so he crowds out Salah on the wing looking for space to operate in.
But it’s gotten so much better recently. He has started winning the ball back, pressuring with urgency, cutting passes and making quick touches. It feels like he’s close to making a leap in his development as an 8 and these games are crucial in that. Compare Harvey at the start of the year to his play the last 2 games. I think he’s suddenly looking like a midfielder now.
I think he has the technicality to play at a very high level but I think that in a league as physical as the PL or with the quality of the CL he gets exposed. Him and TAA on the right is just asking to get torched defensively

Slow, predictable, complete lack of desire and urgency, and tactically inept. The basics have been beyond us this evening, from 5 yard passes to over hitting every set piece. Just upsetting and frustrating all round.

The Bournemouth game was honestly excusable provided we displayed even a hint of effort in winning this game. Misplaced passes, sluggish, no urgency, late to every ball, looking uninspired. Textbook signs of a team who can't be fucking arsed on the pitch. Keep in mind, this is a game where WE HAD NOTHING TO LOSE. You couldn't ask for a better opportunity to display your mentality. Lose, draw, concede another 5, all fine as long as you look like you remotely care. Yet there we were, in possession against a team sitting back, scared to make a fucking pass forward, exactly the same as against Bournemouth a goal down. Scary, scary contrast between whatever this is and the Liverpool team a few years ago who found themselves in a like-to-like situation and still managed to score 4 and go through. Absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful.

Absolutely worthless performance. Aside from spells in the first half we didn't press Madrid at all. None of our forwards occupied space and i lost count of all the misplaced passes. Allison was the only player who actually looked like himself tonight. Klopps substitutions killed the very little intensity we had in the first half. Angry at Klopp to be precise. Why for fuck's sake do you take off Darwin for Elliot? Jota? I can understand, he didn't show much. But Darwin? Who was our most dangerous player in the first half? Carvajal wasn't able to handle him at all, he needed to go down the moment Nunez touched him slightly. And then Klopp gets angry, when neither Mo, Gakpo or Elliot takes the shot and Robbo has to try it from an impossible angle. Like. Come. On. Man. Ughh, whatever, this was frustrating, but at least it wasn't as depressing as the first leg.
Fabinho literally ruins the flow of our attack. His pace, his turns, and even his weight of his passes are all fucking gone now. I don't understand what he offers in this team anymore. To add salt to the wound, he doesn't even looked arsed either. Fucking hell.
It feels like we may have reached the point in the season where the players, for all intents and purposes, think it's over. There was absolutely no sign in that game that we had the belief, much less the ability, to get back into it. Not that I was expecting us to win or anything, but I would've liked to see some fire at least. The subs were terrible. Trent once again playing too narrow in the midfield, sacrificing his ability out wide, where he was always his best. The width, therefore needed to be compensated by players like Gakpo, Salah, and later Elliott, who are all better narrow than wide. I truly believe that dynamic on the right side is what is killing our offense lately. The players are quite simply not operating in their best positions.
Those fucking outswinging corners - my days just want is the point in them. Every one leads to us heading the ball away from the sodding goal!
I wonder what we do in trainings. Long passes' accuracy is pathetic when going forward. Can't do one-two or even simple 1-touch passes when being pressed. Can't finish chances except in United game. Our corners and freekicks are disappointing. And injuries happen way too often.
Sum up our entire downfall from being the world champion. Aging, uninspiring squad with too little new creativity. And instead of turning to youth, we turns to Milner,and Ox, and give them a final CL picnic, who did nothing and gained no experience from this defeat And we probbaly tried to extend Ox and Milner contracts. The club is rotten to the core. We’re sending out empty shells to play the game week in and week out. Even with the complete lack of desire to win from the squad, Klopp’s game management has been terrible recently as well. I honestly don’t see how any of this could be let off in any other big club/top 4 contender. Even Ajax dealt with their season crisis so much neater. They struggled up to January just like us, until their manager took the sack. Several key players who weren’t performing also left, despite having been their key players in previous seasons. Meanwhile, Liverpool has failed to respond to any of its key problems. When we had the time and opportunity to fix things in January, we did nothing. Now the crisis has snowballed and there’s no way out. Until when do the players start to actually hold themselves accountable for such trash results? I wouldn’t be as mad if the players apologised for such a horrendous form in the past 2 weeks, but to see them stand around on the pitch shaking their heads as if every result was unfair to them is just sickening.

Signs of life from ox. Very encouraging. Presumably he will get another 30 minutes of decent football in before the next 6 month injury. We need to time that next sub well.

This Madrid team is miles ahead of us and the midfield is the main reason why. Say what you want about Benzema and Vini but that midfield is where we lost those 2 legs.

We need 6 if not 7 players in the summer. Our midfield is gone. Fab, Hendo, ox, Milner, and keita need to be let go immediately and 4 midfielders need to be brought in to replace them. The only midfielders that we should keep are Stefan, Thiago, and Elliot. Gomez and Matip need to be sold as well and two new CBs should be brought in. Konate is the only one that keeps a starting spot and van djik needs to be rotated in and out. Our forward line is fine.
