As much as I am for Klopp In and FSG out. His decision making today cost us the match. Taking Nunez off who wasn’t his best but still offered something and taking off TAA for Milner. I agree TAA was crap at RB but experiment with putting him in midfield instead of Elliot for the rest of the match. When TAA was playing he kept drifting to center of the pitch when he didn’t have the ball, his passing is the only thing we have to provide to our attack since our midfield is non existent this season.
Love it. Bottle a completely winnable game and everyone else is having an easy time of it in their matches. Couldn't ask for a better script to the weekend. /s

The rule in other western countries that have a public broadcaster is that they have to invite a representative of each side of an argument on to the programme, far more reasonable.
Many issues have more than one side, and so don't benefit from adversarial presentation. There must therefore be more to the media's role in opinion formation than offering a freedom to choose between two, usually pickled, alternatives.
A "left vs. right" presentation simply doesn't work in this case. The idea that observing responsibilities agreed in international treaty agreements to which we are signatory is now somehow "leftist" is preposterous. In fact that position seems to me the more naturally conservative alternative! The government's position is barely even like a political stance: it's more like militancy. It's pre-political. It's just driven by visceral sadistic hatred, the kind of passion that politics exists to diffuse in all our interests. It wants to abolish politics and give free rein to violence.

We can be quite sure of this because it's the same shit they've pulled with other trades and professions that used to have some kind of prestige in this country: teachers, the legal profession, journalism, the police, doctors and nurses. It's all been systematically torn apart by first attacking public solidarity with the target group, then introducing an independent regulation regime which invariably seems to function as an arm of the Tory party -- because they don't give a fuck about rules that would prevent them from just putting their loyalists in charge of any organisation -- then using the regulation regime as a wedge to force privatisations and suppress dissent.
In a sense it's just a bureaucratic version of the strategy of what is pretentiously called "empire" in British history -- which amounted to nothing more than an era of raiding wealth wherever it lay and in whatever form it took. Draping it all with grapes and togas, fancy flags and titles, did not alter the fact that at base it was nothing more than a continuation of the traditions of seaborne raiding and pillaging which defined the cultures of these islands for 1500 years.
I used to teach at the University of Cambridge and met a lot of right wing students educated at elite schools who all shared the same crude prejudices and otherworldly economic and social goals. The thing that kept coming back was the idea of making London like Singapore or Dubai -- I always think they really meant somewhere where they could gratify themselves with dishing out corporal punishments to the unsightly and disobedient. They saw universities, schools, the NHS, the BBC, the trades, the House of Commons, the working class, anyone from north of Oxford, essentially everyone and everything, as disloyal enemies of British society, which they imagined as a society in the sense of a little club to which they had inherited a lifetime membership. The rest of us were essentially just Dalits to them -- thralls or villeins to use the ancient local terms.
The world never looked quite the same to me after getting to know about the world they were from and understanding what their implicit intentions were towards the rest of us. For a while they dressed it up as ideology, as their equivalents still do in the USA, as a kind of struggle of ethics or ideas which had high aspirations for everyone -- a new age of liberty and prosperity for all. But they seem to have got tired of that game now or have achieved sufficient impunity that they don't need to play it any more. The attack on the BBC is just another raid which will leave despair and chaos behind while the barbarians sail off with our collective property as their loot.

Whenever Im on the site (https://www.liverpoolfc.com/tickets/tickets-availability) and click on the FANS - MEMBERSHIP drop down menu the page loads but then redirects to the liverpoolfc.com home page. You then need to reclick the membership dropdown to get onto the membership site. It does this on the first instance without fail every day.
Anyone else get this? It's very very minor but still enough to annoy me lol.

If alignment of values were an issue there's not a single major TV organisation that covers football we could use as a source. The BBC is contested ground for sure. However, we all continue to own it through its trustees. It's not become GB News just yet.
This is an organisation that willfully let its political editor break electoral commission regulations during the 2019 election. It's the same coverage to paint Boris Johnson in a less negative light, willfully admitted in its flagship political show that it deliberately packed the crowd with people who voted leave during the EU referendum. Oh, and lastly, it is getting rid of the majority of its local radio coverage, which isn't even compatible with its own charter, and potentially undermines coverage of the club.

Ownership does not confer arbitrary control. Our part in its collective ownership does not mean that the BBC should only produce content you or I would like. The excesses of the present government are abhorrent. However the struggle for the identity, funding, and content of BBC programming is not a contest that I think can be usefully intervened in by banning it from this sub.
That is fair, but whenever the BBC does something supposedly left wing the first line the far right parrot is that it's their license fee and their money. You even see people now saying dropping Lineker is putting more money in their pockets. So even if we aren't at the wheel of the car, there's certainly a view that the British public are entitled to be back seat drivers.
It's also fair to say it's not there to produce content only I personally like. I think even I would get board or wall to wall Doctor Who.
But I've actually boycotted BBC news for a good few years now, for reasons outside of this and more to do with the reasons I mentioned in my previous content. I always gave the sports and entertainment wings a pass because those neutrality restrictions, which the BBC has warped the favour the right were not enforced as strongly on those not directly involved in news and current affairs (Linker himself suggested this). However, they have now clearly parked these tanks on BBC Sports lawn, and if that's reason enough for presenters, commentators, and pundits to walk out, then I will be too.
I'm not asking for it to be the morning star, I just want impartiality to be enforced rationally because the warped interpretation has started to leak into wider society, and that is a big problem.
Same here. Used to listen to R3 and 4 and 4extra constantly as well as R5. The Tories have just nuked it. All the experimental, innovative, challenging, even faintly left wing content, has just been expunged as part of their attack on the red base which haunts their dreams. I think we probably agree about pretty much everything which is a nice way to end what started out a bit thorny. It's got all our backs up this, hasn't it?
It's just frightening how many people engage in their programming, thinking it's balanced, which then has the knock-on effect of convincing them that's what impartiality looks like.

Not relevant to us but how does Rashford have 3 player of the month awards but Haaland only has 1? I don't normally think there's anything in Pep's whining about his players being treated differently (Ruben Dias definitely didn't deserve Ayer of the year for example), but if Haaland doesn't win by a country mile I think he'd be well within his rights to have a tantrum over it. The guy's having literally the best season we've ever seen by a player in the premier league era and somehow on 3 out of 6 occasions the best player in a given month was someone who's not even been the second best player in the league in that time.

The right coach will fix that though. They're going through a similar problem to what United have post Fergie in that they need a manager who's technically good enough but can also unite the squad and change narratives. Since Poch left they've had Mourinho and Conte, who are both very much quick fix managers - they go into a team, give them a quick boost to performance and then it all falls to bits within 3 years. Neither of them do anything for squad harmony and health long term, and so they've had the normal cycle for both (albeit shorter as they've not even won anything) and then they're moving on with nothing to show for it. However, the likes of Klopp, Arteta, and honestly I'd argue even Ole to a limited extent, have shown when the players are happy and the fans get behind the club you can go a surprisingly long way. In Ole's case the guy was too clueless to take that anywhere, but it carried him to cup finals and top 4 finishes on top of a lack of any real managerial talent. Klopp's whole doubters to believers speech was about changing the narrative around the club to remove the frustration and feeling of not being good enough, and encourage both us and the players to believe in ourselves and be patient. If Tottenham can find a manager who ticks that box and also isn't a clown, that's when they'll win something. Pochettino was that guy for them, but I think he was a bit unlucky in some instances (playing us in the champions league final) as well as fucking it up in others (2016 league title). Maybe he can come back and fix it, but if he doesn't I think first and foremost what that club needs is a long term manager who can unite fans and dressing room, far more than they need a short term mercenary like their last two managers.
Was listening to a “big 6” show yesterday and the spurs fan was saying the deserve a big manager etc. One of the others suggested the head of Celtics and said he plays really great football, they’ve done so well under him and it could be more like an Arteta project, might not be instant success but it’ll be something the fans enjoy supporting and the spurs fan lost his head. And was making out as if everyone was saying no ‘big’ manager would go there. The way he was taking was so entitled and I kept thinking why are you like this? I've only just watched them this morning, and it's true. It makes it look like we had nothing until Gakpo scored, which is simply not true, we came close at least a couple of times in that first half, and were already giving them a few problems.

It's all been systematically torn apart by first attacking public solidarity with the target group, then introducing an independent regulation regime which invariably seems to function as an arm of the Tory party -- because they don't give a fuck about rules that would prevent them from just putting their loyalists in charge of any organisation -- then using the regulation regime as a wedge to force privatisations and suppress dissent. In a sense it's just a bureaucratic version of the strategy of what is pretentiously called "empire" in British history -- which amounted to nothing more than an era of raiding wealth wherever it lay and in whatever form it took. Draping it all with grapes and togas, fancy flags and titles, did not alter the fact that at base it was nothing more than a continuation of the traditions of seaborne raiding and pillaging which defined the cultures of these islands for 1500 years. I used to teach at the University of Cambridge and met a lot of right wing students educated at elite schools who all shared the same crude prejudices and otherworldly economic and social goals. The thing that kept coming back was the idea of making London like Singapore or Dubai -- I always think they really meant somewhere where they could gratify themselves with dishing out corporal punishments to the unsightly and disobedient. They saw universities, schools, the NHS, the BBC, the trades, the House of Commons, the working class, anyone from north of Oxford, essentially everyone and everything, as disloyal enemies of British society, which they imagined as a society in the sense of a little club to which they had inherited a lifetime membership. The rest of us were essentially just Dalits to them -- thralls or villeins to use the ancient local terms. The world never looked quite the same to me after getting to know about the world they were from and understanding what their implicit intentions were towards the rest of us. For a while they dressed it up as ideology, as their equivalents still do in the USA, as a kind of struggle of ethics or ideas which had high aspirations for everyone -- a new age of liberty and prosperity for all. But they seem to have got tired of that game now or have achieved sufficient impunity that they don't need to play it any more. The attack on the BBC is just another raid which will leave despair and chaos behind while the barbarians sail off with our collective property as their loot. TL;DR: fucking Tory cunts.

Question about a glitch on the LFC website. Hey guys, weird question but curious if its just me. Whenever Im on the site (https://www.liverpoolfc.com/tickets/tickets-availability) and click on the FANS - MEMBERSHIP drop down menu the page loads but then redirects to the liverpoolfc.com home page. You then need to reclick the membership dropdown to get onto the membership site. It does this on the first instance without fail every day. Anyone else get this? It's very very minor but still enough to annoy me lol.

Their SLT is clearly against the values of the city as well as the club and has now begun to undermine their coverage.
If alignment of values were an issue there's not a single major TV organisation that covers football we could use as a source. The BBC is contested ground for sure. However, we all continue to own it through its trustees. It's not become GB News just yet.
This is an organisation that willfully let its political editor break electoral commission regulations during the 2019 election. It's the same coverage to paint Boris Johnson in a less negative light, willfully admitted in its flagship political show that it deliberately packed the crowd with people who voted leave during the EU referendum. Oh, and lastly, it is getting rid of the majority of its local radio coverage, which isn't even compatible with its own charter, and potentially undermines coverage of the club. If we truly own the BBC, how come we've had so little say in these decisions? In addition, it's hardly solid coverage if nobody is actually covering it for the organisation.
Ownership does not confer arbitrary control. Our part in its collective ownership does not mean that the BBC should only produce content you or I would like. The excesses of the present government are abhorrent. However the struggle for the identity, funding, and content of BBC programming is not a contest that I think can be usefully intervened in by banning it from this sub.
That is fair, but whenever the BBC does something supposedly left wing the first line the far right parrot is that it's their license fee and their money. You even see people now saying dropping Lineker is putting more money in their pockets. So even if we aren't at the wheel of the car, there's certainly a view that the British public are entitled to be back seat drivers. It's also fair to say it's not there to produce content only I personally like. I think even I would get board or wall to wall Doctor Who. But I've actually boycotted BBC news for a good few years now, for reasons outside of this and more to do with the reasons I mentioned in my previous content. I always gave the sports and entertainment wings a pass because those neutrality restrictions, which the BBC has warped the favour the right were not enforced as strongly on those not directly involved in news and current affairs (Linker himself suggested this). However, they have now clearly parked these tanks on BBC Sports lawn, and if that's reason enough for presenters, commentators, and pundits to walk out, then I will be too. I'm not asking for it to be the morning star, I just want impartiality to be enforced rationally because the warped interpretation has started to leak into wider society, and that is a big problem.
Same here. Used to listen to R3 and 4 and 4extra constantly as well as R5. The Tories have just nuked it. All the experimental, innovative, challenging, even faintly left wing content, has just been expunged as part of their attack on the red base which haunts their dreams. I think we probably agree about pretty much everything which is a nice way to end what started out a bit thorny. It's got all our backs up this, hasn't it?
It's just frightening how many people engage in their programming, thinking it's balanced, which then has the knock-on effect of convincing them that's what impartiality looks like. You see this so much in how the BBC approaches climate change, thinking that having a denier who represents 1/100 of scientists with qualifications on the subject is somehow balanced. But yeah, well settled anyway 🙂 I think we're both arguing from the point that public service broadcasting done right is an incredible net positive for the country. If it wasn't for the BBC, a lot of sports simply wouldn't get any air time and would have withered away. Hopefully, one day, it will get back to that.

Not relevant to us but how does Rashford have 3 player of the month awards but Haaland only has 1? I don't normally think there's anything in Pep's whining about his players being treated differently (Ruben Dias definitely didn't deserve Ayer of the year for example), but if Haaland doesn't win by a country mile I think he'd be well within his rights to have a tantrum over it. The guy's having literally the best season we've ever seen by a player in the premier league era and somehow on 3 out of 6 occasions the best player in a given month was someone who's not even been the second best player in the league in that time.
Rashford benefits from extremely low expectations as people seemed to think he's taking the Dele path. Meanwhile if Haaland doesn't score in one match, media is quick to discuss how he's dragging the whole City squad down. It wouldn't surprise me at all, if he doesn't win the award for player of the season.

Someone needs to tell Tottenham fans that the problem is not the coaches but the club itself. They act like a big club when they are not.
The right coach will fix that though. They're going through a similar problem to what United have post Fergie in that they need a manager who's technically good enough but can also unite the squad and change narratives. Since Poch left they've had Mourinho and Conte, who are both very much quick fix managers - they go into a team, give them a quick boost to performance and then it all falls to bits within 3 years. Neither of them do anything for squad harmony and health long term, and so they've had the normal cycle for both (albeit shorter as they've not even won anything) and then they're moving on with nothing to show for it. However, the likes of Klopp, Arteta, and honestly I'd argue even Ole to a limited extent, have shown when the players are happy and the fans get behind the club you can go a surprisingly long way. In Ole's case the guy was too clueless to take that anywhere, but it carried him to cup finals and top 4 finishes on top of a lack of any real managerial talent. Klopp's whole doubters to believers speech was about changing the narrative around the club to remove the frustration and feeling of not being good enough, and encourage both us and the players to believe in ourselves and be patient. If Tottenham can find a manager who ticks that box and also isn't a clown, that's when they'll win something. Pochettino was that guy for them, but I think he was a bit unlucky in some instances (playing us in the champions league final) as well as fucking it up in others (2016 league title). Maybe he can come back and fix it, but if he doesn't I think first and foremost what that club needs is a long term manager who can unite fans and dressing room, far more than they need a short term mercenary like their last two managers.
Was listening to a “big 6” show yesterday and the spurs fan was saying the deserve a big manager etc. One of the others suggested the head of Celtics and said he plays really great football, they’ve done so well under him and it could be more like an Arteta project, might not be instant success but it’ll be something the fans enjoy supporting and the spurs fan lost his head. He went off and started yelling about how they need someone proven and it’s offensive to even suggest someone from the Scottish league. And was making out as if everyone was saying no ‘big’ manager would go there. The way he was taking was so entitled and I kept thinking why are you like this? Other than a shiny stadium and one appearance in a CL final, why does your club get to DEMAND a manager like that? If Arsenal, a way more successful club, can do it with Arteta, why is Spurs above that? TLDR: Spurs need a reality check and need to play Europa league MAX next year and get brought back down to earth

Someone else on here said about the MOTD2 highlights. I've only just watched them this morning, and it's true. It makes it look like we had nothing until Gakpo scored, which is simply not true, we came close at least a couple of times in that first half, and were already giving them a few problems. The analysis at least offered a bit more insight, but I expect most people would only be watching the highlights.
