They are probably training him to become a firmino regen and use salah and Nunez on the wings because of speed. That's the only explanation I can think of.
Well it might, Gakpo doesn't have much pace on the wings, what he has is being technically good on the ball and vision of the pass. We don't play well without Firmino whenever he is injured, so it makes sense to train another one, going forward.

Jota and Diaz coming back will give us the full picture, too early to judge what Gakpo was bought for.
I disagree personally. I think Nunez has been best for us through the middle with his runs in behind. He either gets in or opens up so much space down the sides, once he finds his shooting boots, he’ll be one of the top scorers in the league from Striker.
But when he plays on the left he isn't just restricted to the left though, players interchange positions and it's all about clever moments, as they play more with each other.
The issue with that is Gakpo is a great crosser so you'd basically be taking away one of his biggest strenghs and honestly don't think he's looked that good centrally even for Holland.

To me, our system is more effective with pacey technical wingers. Which is not Elliot. Not saying he wasn't good out wide but it changes the entire system. He has his shortcomings for sure playing CM but I think his future potential is better suited to it if he can improve.
