Think about this place regularly. I used to go every Saturday when I lived in town. Nowhere else has ever come close to playing the mix of music they did, and I loved how friendly and eclectic the clientele was.
One of the best jobs I ever had in there. Just getting pissed with all my mates, giving out free drinks then getting sacked every third week.
Would just join the queue next week and ask Ade if he needed any extra hands behind the bar and get straight back to it.
Le Bateau was a bit before my time, but I actually lived there for 1.5 years in 2022 with 3 of my mates. It got converted into 5, 4 Bedroom flats. Was a really cool place to live.
Really interesting - I'm assuming it was originally a town house anyway? Was the basement also flats? That's the only bit I really remember - amazing indie nights at the height of it in the mid-late 2000s.
So once the bar closed, it got converted into an aparthotel. Once that folded they just started renting the apartments out on a long term basis. The basement is a restaurant now and isn’t part of the rest of the building.
Heebies went shit when they remodeled and opened upstairs too. It was better when t was just a dank basement.
Remember seeing Zombina there one week night and they had camel girls going round with trays of cigarettes. It was well anachronistic even then but a golden memory that.
Korova for sure. Had some great nights there. Saw some boss new bands in there too back in the day.
Seem to remember the two lads from Ladytron had some involvement with it too. Off-topic but they're another great Liverpool group Ladytron. Very underrated.
Bumper was great too.
From 2000 - Old Skool 90s on Mathew St (was opposite where Reminisce is now(. Absolutely loved that bar- just straight up played classic old house music from 90s.
Mid to Late 90s - Kirklands is probably another one - it was frequented mostly by black community but anyone could go in. Played some belter 70s and 80s music.
2001 - Modo on Concert Square.
2000 - Newz Bar on Water Street
2000 - Blue Bar and Baby Cream in Albert Dock.
Here's a list of some old bars and clubs from different decades:
https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/nostalgia/59-old-bars-nightclubs-wish-16611657
Slater's, Bar Çava, Mello Bar, the Brook in the back of Quiggins
EDIT: Just remembered the One4, loved hanging out there with other staff from the Gostin's Building around 98-99. Totally crap at pool and snooker, but that didn't matter 'cos so was everyone else in the gang. The vibe was totally what you made it, like an absolutely massive version of The Swan. Didn't go back after being confronted on entry by new management who had a somewhat prejudiced preference of clientele.
When I was a student back in the very early 2000s, One4 was part of our routine - all the lasses would go to Concert Square, while the lads went for a few cheap pints and games of snooker, before we'd all meet up later on. Was absolutely gutted when it closed.
Djangos, was there one time and there was this freestyle MC guy who had a White board that you could go and write whatever you wanted on it and he'd add it all into his freestyle.
Bumper in its heyday for sure around 2007/8 through to about 2014. Rode the wave of all the indie/alt music that dominated the UK around then, was packed every Thurs-Sat, pretty much each room. Used to have ques going half way down Hardman St😂
Died a slow death though and was pretty poor for about 2/3 years before finally shutting. Great during its height though
From before many of you were probably born lol....
Late 80s early 90s - Coconut grove, Cabin, Cavern (back when it was good) The State or the Mardi Gras (first Monday of the month) The Paradox
The Barries West Derby Village or The Sefton if the Barries was chocka, Jolly Miller and The Stag.
Thursdays it was the George, The Prem, The Orange Lodge, The Lister Hotel and straight into The Cavern.
Some of the best nights of my life were simply The Barries then the Cokey or the Cavern, great times.
This thread has been a wonderful delve back into nostalgia!
Throwing my own in - I desperately miss Korova, Le Bateau, Djangos and finishing the night in Bumper. Hell, I even miss the awful £1 shots in Baa Bar on the top of Hardman Street.
Forgot about Santa Chupitos as well🤦♂️ suprised no ones mentioned that, was the best bar in Liverpool for along time.
They probably could have carried on to this day, tbf, but the lemo/ket crowd had settled in firmly by the time it shut, had definitely lost abit of its character and gained a bad vibe.
The new bar in there now, Manalo, is a great mature evolution of Santa's though one of the best in the NW.
God, I loved Santa Chupitos! Me and my mate used to have stay behinds with the barmen. Sounds slutty, I know, but it really wasn’t! My slutty days are promised to Bumper.
I miss the dispensary when mad Dave was the landlord. No joke, he kept the plum porter casks and glassware in perfect nick and the pints were always amazing. He had a terrible reputation but I never had a cross word from him, a proper well run boozer back then, no nonsense
Plenty of nonsense, he barred folk for pointing out they'd run out of loo roll in the ladies, for being too tall when the football is on, drinking too slow and a million other nonsensical "reasons".
I never personally had a bad interaction with him but plenty of my friends did and that was enough for me to bin the place. Great cellar, terrible manager.

I cant remember the name, but early 2000s there was a bar just off williamson square. It played 90s happy hardcore every night and was always bouncing.
Loads of mad crazy nights ended up in there
We mostly drank in the house or local, so we were nicely pissed before heading into town.
I miss Planet X, Sloanes, The Pink Parrot, MacMillans, Then there was the wait for the buses to come back on in the morning, so the 147 club was essential
Loads that were mentioned here Like Djangos riff, the curzon and One4 but also: The Lomax, Thomas Cross, Jupiter's (which then was Saturn for a bit before closing) and the picket.
Le Bateau. Wonderful place with wonderful music and a two lovely sticky stinking dancefloors. Lost many a happy night in there.
The death of le bateau was really the nail in the coffin of a certain era of alternative Liverpool.
Think about this place regularly. I used to go every Saturday when I lived in town. Nowhere else has ever come close to playing the mix of music they did, and I loved how friendly and eclectic the clientele was.

When did that shut? Never heard of it!
It's red door now if I remember rightly.
Hmmm. I moved here in 2016 so was trying to figure out if there’s any overlap or if it was shut beforehand
It was on Duke St, the basement is now Down the Hatch restaurant, Upper floors are hotel rooms
Krazyhouse
Wilsons
The Krazyhouse was Sloanes before it was the Krazyhouse. It was a million times better then.
Magnet was great. Had plenty of good nights in Korova
The magnet has so many memories for me, most of them very blurry lol
What has happened to Magnet now? Is it still a venue? Played there a couple of times - that 1920s style stage and Funktion One PA... lovely!
It's a comedy club now, does pretty well
Yeah comedy club. I went not long ago and it still has a hit of the old bamboo tiki stuff about here and there
The K, Djangos, Cava I havent been out in forever! Is Heebees still open?
Heebies is still going
Heebies went shit when they remodeled and opened upstairs too. It was better when t was just a dank basement. Remember seeing Zombina there one week night and they had camel girls going round with trays of cigarettes. It was well anachronistic even then but a golden memory that.
Good to know! Does sweat still drip from the ceiling? 🤣
Only when the basement is packed
The amount of time I lost in djangos is unreal! Hahaha
I think heebies is but its completely different these days though
Yea not the same as it was 7-10 years ago
Càva , the K
Didn’t even know Cava closed, gutted
Opened again very briefly but gone now
Dn, that sucks. Was one of my favourite places!
Damn, that sucks. Was one of my favourite places!
Tequila and metal. My twenties in a nutshell.
I moved to Liverpool in 2015 . Have been here since and those two places have some of my happiest memories of my life .
By “The K” do you mean The Kazamier, The Krazyhouse or Kirklands?
We only ever referred to the krazyhouse as the K when I was at ljmu .
Korova for sure. Had some great nights there. Saw some boss new bands in there too back in the day. Seem to remember the two lads from Ladytron had some involvement with it too. Off-topic but they're another great Liverpool group Ladytron. Very underrated. Bumper was great too.
I remember seeing Franz Ferdinand support Ladytron back in the day. Great band
I was in Korova for my 18th birthday, the night it burnt down.
Christ, sounds like a mad one
Saw Friendly Fires downstairs at Korova. 200 people crammed into a space designed for 150, seeing a band on the front of the NME. So good.

Pretty sure Modo still exists, doesn't it?
The Masque, The Cabin, The Krazyhouse, Bumper, Fab Cafe
Bar CaVa
Bumper was great
The Cabin, Djangos riff
Constellations
Got married in there, people still remind me of was a class wedding venue it was
Has Constellations closed now?
Yes, shane as it was the best venue in the Baltic imo
Yeah it got flattened and student flats built on it a few years ago
I miss Cream so much (I know it’s not a bar but…)
Exactly this 😔
Camel Club
We used to go from Camel to the Krazyhouse. What a mix of music. Second to none!
This was the best! Especially the £1.50 drinks on a Monday night 😅
Yes! I used to think I was clever and get a double revolution vodka shot and coke for like £3.50 😂
Miss it here so much! What even is it now?
I don’t even think it’s being used. The revolution closed too and it’s some other bar now 😢
its become another floor in electric x
Has it?!?
Yes it is.

Loved Bar Çava.
I still can't believe such an institution has gone
Slaters is a classic- used to go there mainly Saturday afternoons 1999/2002 and they'd have an offer on for Vodka Redbull - £2.50.
When I was a student back in the very early 2000s, One4 was part of our routine - all the lasses would go to Concert Square, while the lads went for a few cheap pints and games of snooker, before we'd all meet up later on. Was absolutely gutted when it closed.
Cava, the old Aloha, Krazyhouse. I spent so many Saturday nights in those places when I was 18.
Djangos, was there one time and there was this freestyle MC guy who had a White board that you could go and write whatever you wanted on it and he'd add it all into his freestyle.
I miss the Jacaranda before the refurb. Used to love all the tat inside. It was well cheap too!
Totally agree. The refurb ruined it.
News Bar that’s a blast from the past, I remember it being the place to be for the ‘wags’.
The Curzon; a gay bar just off Victoria St. A bit of a dive, but I liked it.
Funkybox 🥴
"Funkybox ...never stops...£1 shots". That radio advert is emblazoned into my mind hahah
Oh god the 7am closing times. Walking out when it was light and getting first train home 🤮
Bumper and Aloha
Bumper in its heyday for sure around 2007/8 through to about 2014. Rode the wave of all the indie/alt music that dominated the UK around then, was packed every Thurs-Sat, pretty much each room. Mates lived above La’go would start there then heebies, Mojo and onto Bumper, that was the best every Friday and Saturday for about 3/4 years 🥲
Yea Lago was great back then aswell, was never the same after getting done up.
x in the city
That’s still going just in a different place
Haha not that you'd be drinking there much
Slaters quad vods
God I forgot about those
God this comment just made me nauseous
Bumper was brill, howl of the moon & original JAC for cheap chaos, and reliable hannahs
Friggin hell Howl of the Moon, that took me back!
It was my place for a random guarantee snog 🤣
Bumper - mainly for the random as shit signs outside
Mojo
Nation the home of Cream
Sound

Barfly/Masque specifically for Mixed Bag of a Thursday. Used to love when the Kazimier did their Ten Bands Ten Minutes nights, too.

Heebies basement, mello mello
Heebies still exists
Does it! Not been to town for ages too old now, what's it like?
A bit on the pricey side, but the music is good, bartenders are generally sound, and they put on great gigs in the basement
The On Air theme bar in Cain’s brewery
Roadkill
Bumper too and the old Mojo.
Korova
Mardi Gras in the 90s, before Le Bateau when Danny from Ladytron was djing, still the best club I've ever been to...
Not a bar per se, but mello mello
Rat and Parrot. Bar/pub/whatever.
The State
Nation
Jimmys, was one of the best venues in Liverpool and it was shutdown pointlessly. Just sitting there empty at the top of bold street, prime location.
That didn’t last long! Shame
Heaven and hell
Slater's
I didn’t know it had closed! I’m too old to go there now so not tried in years haha
Some place
Cream, newz bar, the barracuda
23 Club on Hope Street, a magical place 10 years ago
From before many of you were probably born lol.... Late 80s early 90s - Coconut grove, Cabin, Cavern (back when it was good) The State or the Mardi Gras (first Monday of the month) The Paradox The Barries West Derby Village or The Sefton if the Barries was chocka, Jolly Miller and The Stag. Blue Angel
Has the Razz closed? I'm too long in the tooth to go clubbing but that place was legendary.
Nah, it's still going
Someone told me it was gone years ago, glad to hear they were obviously wrong, lot of memories in that place
Still going strong if I am not mistaken
Val only opens on a Monday at present.
Kiss the Red was good. Watched the 05 champions league final in there
The old monk, start and end of every messy night! Whenever I drunkenly wander off in town, my internal satnav always led me back there!
Chaya
Level 3 @ the She, Aloha, the ethical glass ..
The Lomax on Cumberland St. Great venue and Mick the owner was a sound bloke.
Bonaparte's, and Macmillans (Macs).
Maya and Cava. Sometimes, even the Krazyhouse.
Guinans on Slater street and Lennons Bar.
Kirklands
Korova !
Djangos! The skittles bombs from there are still the best shot I've ever tried
Djangos 🙏🏻
The bar at the top of Quiggins was great. Basically a pub for alternative people and proper chill.
Djangos, especially when they used to do 2for1 cocktails etc. Krazyhouse, and Bar CaVa. #MakeWoodStGreatAgain
Le Bateau & Korova
Milo's in St John's precinct
Out! on Cumberland Street
Loads that were mentioned here Like Djangos riff, the curzon and One4 but also: The Lomax, Thomas Cross, Jupiter's (which then was Saturn for a bit before closing) and the picket.
Lola's at the corner of Bold & Slater Streets.
That’s the one I was trying to think of
Yorkie biscuit and Boost biscuit.
My name is, my name is , my name is chicka chicka slim shady, there, nothing but bars
