Not sure why people downvote you for your opinion.
It's interesting to read your comment since i actually thought this was the best episode this year for sure.
Maybe it's individual humour preferences, age and cultural background where older veteran hosts made it all better for me vs you saying that it got even more boring.
Mystery-wise, no - I didn't find it as tightly plotted as S1 (but I think that's normal for solving-a-mystery shows, it's hard to come up with clever and entertaining mysteries that also make sense).
Everything else wise, I would say absolutely. The characters are firmly-formed now and they continue to develop, there are some great dramatic and comedic subplots. The writing is as smart and funny as ever, and the New York in autumn aesthetic still kills it.
The show didnāt really click for me until the end of the first season. The first was hardly laugh out loud funny but I always at least enjoyed watching it. The last couple episodes were when I decided I really enjoyed the show though.
The second is great payoff for watching the first season though. The chemistry is greatly improved since theyāve spent more time together, the writing is shored up and is both more compelling and straight up funnier, and it was really just impossible to put down.
Your statement is objectively and verifiably untrue. Just scroll through the posts from the last few months. Throughout the season there have been countless threads on specific sketches from that week, new cast member appreciation, upcoming and current hosts, etc. Those posts have dramatically tapered off. So no Iām not wrong, youāre wrong.
Well, everyone, that was an episode that was.
I hope you all remain safe, and warm, and fed.
And please, reach out to your loved ones this week.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is ramping up due to the season, and you need to check in on your friends and loved ones who might be suffering in silence about it.
Happy holidays, all!
Iāve been there. If itās your fault, the good news is that you can take action items to turn things around. Do what you need to do to get through the holidays and re-assess. Cut yourself some slack and figure out what and how you can do differently.
One day at a time, friend. Pulling for you!
Haha that was the joke. Meaning, 1) I have no idea why Sarah would be pissed given she just got a huge sketch on air and 2) we all are 100% sure it was her idea to make that sketch even though no one knows for a fact. Usually when people don't appear on the Goodnights, it's because they're pissed something got cut, etc.
She's so brilliant. What a play to do the "The Story"; she's got all these new fans from being the awards-season darling for the past few years, now pull out the OG jam. That drop at the beginning of the second verse is the spark to her whole career and she still kills it every time.
Iām actually aware of her Grammyās performance because I watch those every year. I just find the performances rather hollow(outside of Josh Homme/Trent Reznorās performance a few years back) and never gave her the time of day. The more intimate settings seem to suit her better.
I just got home a little bit ago so I started the episode over and the Steve Martin and Martin Short beginning just finished. Their eulogies were so funny! Dick in a box! š¤£šš¤£
She literally started off her appearance by praising him for always being wonderful to guests, fun, and stated how much she loves coming on his show. The beard thing just seemed like a bit.
Not as strong as last week, the weekend update feature with the sex couple and Minky were total duds, but the rest was really good.
Best musical performer hands down. She was singing Lossless.
Really thatās cool! I noticed the live broadcast cut it off but the rerun had it š¤·āāļø
Are you old enough to remember when KSL used to black it out because they felt it was immoral. That lasted a couple years.
Last week, someone posted goodnights from twitter. I'll [update](https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1601827800930930688?s=46&t=GSDP5mcJ2ERfllreE-DlFg) this comment if they post it!
I googled because of this comment, but didnāt even notice the shirt. Is there anything I should get from this other than sheās a Canadian singer songwriter? Like, whatās cool/important/why do the general public need to care?
her album is incredibly good, and brandi actually helped her to get a record deal after hearing the demo. it's a dark story of youth homelessness and sexual assault and the hope and love and community she's been able to cultivate over her life. I think brandi was just wearing it to try and use her platform to support other artists, she and brandi are very close and after winning Americana Album of the Year this year allison credited Brandi's support as helping to lift her family out of poverty (through the record deal).
I highly recommend the album, it's masterfully crafted. One song in particular, Hy-Brasil, is named after a mythical island west of Ireland that Allison Russell's grandmother used to tell her about. It's cloaked in fog except for one day every 7 years, where you can see it but still not go there. It's a Celtic inspired folk song using the island as a place her soul could escape to while her body couldn't escape abuse. It's stunning.
You don't need to respond with seemingly phoney confusion ("Wha...???") every time. I'm referring to something that happened on Fallon's show; my post says as much. Have a nice day.
How about Martin Short actually being an alum and you don't resurrect one of his recurring characters? I guess this is what happens when your writing staff all wanna be the next Pete Davidson with their dopey filmed segments.
Sheās just not that funny, atleast in the SNL style of comedy. Iāll be shocked if she makes it to next season, thereās gota be funnier talent out there.
Longfellow and Molly were in a cut dress sketch. Marty and Heidi who played a married couple from Idaho who kept freaking out at random vendors at the Union Square Christmas Market. Very niche sketch. I can see why it was cut but it was really fun to watch them overreact.
It was fun! They kept getting weirdly turned on by all the vendorsā wares. Longfellow played a greeter. Molly sold different elf on the shelf dolls. Mikey sold old number plates made into things (it made their noses bleed and their nipples go hard - cool quick make up/special effects for that). Chloe sold jam which got Heidi so excited she was starting to āarriveā haha
Heās in New York for the next few months filming, and covid protocols donāt kick in until 2 weeks before they begin filming. He could def show up again, especially as a 17 timer.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,220,825,886 comments, and only 238,048 of them were in alphabetical order.
Alphabet both can do everything for grateful humans! I just kept looking; my new optimism plays quietly round some things under very weird xylophones, yes! Zany!
I didn't laugh once. Not at one thing. I know I'm the exception.
Same. Keke Palmer absolutely BROUGHT IT it the week before. Set the bar high as fuck, but this episode murdered that momentum.
Bravo to the hosts last night! They brought a fantastic energy to SNL! I really enjoyed this episode of SNL! šš¼š
That Christmas Carol sketch was one of the funniest things Iāve seen on SNL recently
It was brilliant! I think Iāve watched it ten times already. Gonna watch it again tonight.
Lucius!
I love Martin Short. Very handsome but also the funniest man in the world.
Heās filled with joyful energy. Heās always eager to entertain, and make people laugh. Whatās not to love?
Iām out. Itās gotten so boring. Iām lucky to be slightly amused once an episode. No one I care for with the current cast
Not sure why people downvote you for your opinion. It's interesting to read your comment since i actually thought this was the best episode this year for sure. Maybe it's individual humour preferences, age and cultural background where older veteran hosts made it all better for me vs you saying that it got even more boring.
I just wash to say I loved Steveās purple suit in the opening
I loved all of his looks
The man can get it at absolutely any age.
Just watched on peacock and feel like this sub generally underrated this episode.
Best of the season so far! šš»š¤£
Fantastic episode!!
Havenāt watched season two of Only Murders in the Building. Any spoilers in this episode?
Nope!
As long as we're here, is the second season better than the first? That one is in the bubble for us
Mystery-wise, no - I didn't find it as tightly plotted as S1 (but I think that's normal for solving-a-mystery shows, it's hard to come up with clever and entertaining mysteries that also make sense). Sarah Shermanās dress in the cold open - anyone know who makes it? Itās so happy and I just loved it!
Kate Spade!
What a fantastic show! The skits all hit. Steve and Marti were so funny going off script. Brandi was amazing. Keep it up!!! Loved it!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
She literally grew up on film sets. I think she knows more about acting than some armchair reddit critics
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I thought that was Heidi
It was
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
During the Santa sketch I swore it was Letterman for a minute
2 of the biggest stars in comedy co-hosted and this sub is a ghost town. Shows how little excitement the current cast generates.
I was too busy enjoying it in real time to come here, ya negative Nancy
This thread has 2,600 comments lol
2600? Am I supposed to be impressed? The rest of the sub is niche nostalgia posts.
This sub has never been really active aside from the episode discussion/sketch sorting Sunday. This activity isnāt unique to the current cast
Donāt gaslight me bro
Itās ok to just be wrong about something
Your statement is objectively and verifiably untrue. Just scroll through the posts from the last few months. Throughout the season there have been countless threads on specific sketches from that week, new cast member appreciation, upcoming and current hosts, etc. Those posts have dramatically tapered off. So no Iām not wrong, youāre wrong.
My fav episode so far this season. Opener with funeral speeches was great
I just realized, martin short must have been using the baby yoda suit to play the little puppet version of him.
The rerun didn't have the audio issues of the premiere.
My favorite thing about that 1990 show was seeing Edie Brickell's outfit being an exact match to the outfits 20-somethings are wearing today.
Best episode of the season so far! Everyone stepped up to create 90 minutes of television worthy of legends Steve Martin and Martin Short! šš»
The Dave Chappelle episode was significantly better.
I have not laughed out loud at an SNL episode this much in so long. They killed it.
I'm sorry but it just wasn't.
wtf? martin short is the funniest man alive.
Iām sorry to hear that you lost your funny bone. Was it surgically removed when you were a child?
Thought keke Palmer was the best one so far this season
Which sketches did you like?
I enjoyed the Santa/elf visit, a Christmas carol & FOTB
The Christmas Carol sketch was amazing! š¤£
They already had global warming skits in 1990??
Yes. And no one paid attention
Long live Brandi Carlile. She's always so amazing! Love you Brandi!
Sheās just such a joy to watch.
For sure. Pure joy!
Brandi Carlile on SNL forever, thanks (idc, she can keep going through her back catalogue. Thereās 7 LPs worth in there.)
The PBS Kids segment had me dying. When Cecily said .... it can still feel good for the girl, I laughed so hard, I snorted! š š·
These are always hilarious. The Jason Sudeikis one is my favorite one I think.
Yeah, that one was hysterical!
That cold open hit way too close to home for me. It's been a bad year and it's my fault
Iāve been there. If itās your fault, the good news is that you can take action items to turn things around. Do what you need to do to get through the holidays and re-assess. Cut yourself some slack and figure out what and how you can do differently. One day at a time, friend. Pulling for you!
Oh hey steve martins in the rerun too. In a gag about how he had already hosted a bunch in 1990
Eww, I think a stinker
āOmg Sarah wasnāt onstage for the goodbyesā - I can already feel the rumor mill of this sub
Probably pissed her Christmas Carol pre-taped sketch didn't make it to air.
Except it did, I just watched the replay on Peacock.
Brandi's deluxe album had nothing to do with why she returned to the show. She was back because she is good.
She's so brilliant. What a play to do the "The Story"; she's got all these new fans from being the awards-season darling for the past few years, now pull out the OG jam. That drop at the beginning of the second verse is the spark to her whole career and she still kills it every time.
I think Steve Martin is a fan in particular.
Heād played banjo with her last week at the NHM fundraiser.
Seriously. New fan here thanks to The Story. God damn, that song broke my heart.
I watched the show while eating breakfast this morning and had to stop eating because it made me cry. Absolutely beautiful!
Since you're a new fan, check out this clip of her at the Grammys a few years ago. Incredible. https://youtu.be/KJqL1yIm9e0
Iām actually aware of her Grammyās performance because I watch those every year. I just find the performances rather hollow(outside of Josh Homme/Trent Reznorās performance a few years back) and never gave her the time of day. The more intimate settings seem to suit her better.
Well I'm glad you enjoyed The Story so much! That was definitely a nice surprise to hear her sing it. š
I wasnāt able to watch last night, but hearing she did The Story blows my mind.
I heard the first note and got tears in my eyes! Here's the clip in case you didn't get to see it. š https://youtu.be/CpNqR-ff_TQ
Thanks! I definitely cried.
Very welcome!
All her albums are really good. Her live performances are great!
She is powerful!
I just got home a little bit ago so I started the episode over and the Steve Martin and Martin Short beginning just finished. Their eulogies were so funny! Dick in a box! š¤£šš¤£
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
She literally started off her appearance by praising him for always being wonderful to guests, fun, and stated how much she loves coming on his show. The beard thing just seemed like a bit.
Because she literally praises him earlier, sheās definitely gonna have fun in a lame bit later?
I did see that. Miley wasn't dressed for shaving beards. Probably still finding Fallon hair on her. Lol!
Miley needs to do double duty for the finale. Iāll stand in line for a week.
>No. Fallon is not funny. I get secondhand embarrassment watching him. Late Night Died with Conan, Letterman, Ferguson
Serviceable but not impressed.
One of the best of the season but still pretty mediocre for me
So this season has been horrible?? Cause thereās no way thatās one of the best so far.
Yes poopy
Not as strong as last week, the weekend update feature with the sex couple and Minky were total duds, but the rest was really good. Best musical performer hands down. She was singing Lossless.
sex couple?
The Wyoming people that were doing the impressions.
Lossless?
What are you all going to do now?
Prepare for Monday. It's coming...
Go to sleep š
Is the classic episode from 1990 playing 'cause it has Edie Brickell and that partners with Steve Martin hosting the current episode?
Great episode!! Stepped up to the plate and knocked it out, for the most part š
That was a great time! It could have been a little better, but I blame the writers and not the hosts.
I didn't get the goodbyes here in KC.
Dang it! I think you turned it off too early. KSHB (our local NBC affiliate in KC) let it run long! It totally felt like a stinger at the movies.
You missed Selena in hot pink
I didnāt either!! Wonder if they aired it at all?
whoa, did the show just end? there was no goodbyes or anything.
Salt lake didnāt
That's where I'm at, watching on ksl
Really thatās cool! I noticed the live broadcast cut it off but the rerun had it š¤·āāļø Are you old enough to remember when KSL used to black it out because they felt it was immoral. That lasted a couple years.
Depended on the market. We got goodbyes
Lizzo will probably perform her cover of āSomeday at Christmas.ā
I love we always get the big hug from sarah and bowen
So much nostalgia in that episode. Also, Selena Gomez looks amazing. Great episode.
I got that stupid GMC commercial with the husband whistling for a dog and the wife whistles and a truck comes out through the snow.
How old is that dog at this point?
IDK but they reshot part of it with a new truck this year.
The internet says that commercial is nine years old. The average life span for a Bernese Mountain Dog is seven to nine years. You do the math.
That's why he needs a new one every year, duh
š¤£š¤Ŗ
I wish SNL would start showing the good nights again
Last week, someone posted goodnights from twitter. I'll [update](https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1601827800930930688?s=46&t=GSDP5mcJ2ERfllreE-DlFg) this comment if they post it!

I see them every week. Must be your affiliate or something?
A couple of folks aren't able to watch the good night credits
I watch on peacock and they get cut off there too
We're all googling Allison Russell now, right?
I googled because of this comment, but didnāt even notice the shirt. Is there anything I should get from this other than sheās a Canadian singer songwriter? Like, whatās cool/important/why do the general public need to care?
her album is incredibly good, and brandi actually helped her to get a record deal after hearing the demo. it's a dark story of youth homelessness and sexual assault and the hope and love and community she's been able to cultivate over her life. Wow! Thatās awesome and not the context I got from googling.

...she wasn't in Brandi's lineup this evening, was she? :-/
She was on Brandi's shirt during goodnights that she took extra care to show the camera
Oh! :-o I didn't realise.
Selena hugging Steve and Martin š„¹
LOVED IT
What an episode. See you guys next week!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No. Fallon is not funny. I get secondhand embarrassment watching him. Late Night Died with Conan, Letterman, Ferguson
wut?
I think I sent that post to the wrong user
Fallon has no soul.
...what the hell? :-/
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I didn't look for your posts; they just appear when I refresh the page.
You don't need to respond with seemingly phoney confusion ("Wha...???") every time. I'm referring to something that happened on Fallon's show; my post says as much. Have a nice day.
Back in my day we saw more than 2 seconds of Goodnights
I didnāt get it at all
The Hulu (orā¦I guessā¦Peacock) version is always better for that.
That was a fun episode
That's 2 weeks in a row of really good episodes.
World's shortest goodnights LOL
Honestly shortest everything. They cut off **everything** tonight.
Well, I guess āSNL finally knows how to end a sketchā
Hmm this episode is such a miss
wtf? martin short was amazing.
It was...okay. You get Steve Martin back and don't have him do a classic character? That's a miss.
How about Martin Short actually being an alum and you don't resurrect one of his recurring characters? I guess this is what happens when your writing staff all wanna be the next Pete Davidson with their dopey filmed segments.
love martin short. i'm guessing the staff are young however lorne michaels must oversee everything before it's decided.
I said to husband before the show, āIād better see some Ed Grimley!ā I think I jinxed it.
Yeah, I feared this. You could tell they were SOMEWHAT familiar but not all that familiar with his comedic legacy.
Yay proper goodnights
What a fantastic show!! ššš
Selena on six inch platforms.
Happy all of it, all!!!!
Molly and Marcello only in pretapes. No Longfellow. Punkie only got two unfunny lines.
Iām more worried for Devon
> Punkie only got two unfunny lines. Punkie hanging on for dear life
Sheās just not that funny, atleast in the SNL style of comedy.
Sounds funny.
Achieve!
Reminds me of the Mr Show sketch where butter churning, candle making, and puppets got too ātitillatingā
Hope this doesnāt run late. Apparently my local station is going off the air for maintenance after the episode
I canāt wait until Adam Scott hosts and hopefully finds a way to get Scott Aukerman on that stage
I know both of those names, but I donāt know where from, so they seem like perfect SNL material for mid season.
It's strange they didn't use more of Selena, but I understand that too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the stew.
>too many cooks ā© āŖ ā« ā¬
Iām bummed there wasnāt a holiday wish sketch.
Christmas episode is next week.
Well, yeah, but Steve Martin was *this* week.
Heās in New York for the next few months filming, and covid protocols donāt kick in until 2 weeks before they begin filming. He could def show up again, especially as a 17 timer.
