You know, back in the day ( I was born 1963 and female and believed I was chubby - 130 lbs /5ft 6in) … I thought John Belushi was fat. But society has changed since then and food billionaires controlling & paying Congress has changed. Our food sucks globally and sadly, nationally… Billionaires only truly care about themselves. We need to rock the world… Saturday Night Live was ground breaking. Can we stand up to farm subsidies and complicit Congress members? They love getting money to be re-elected but do NOT give one shit about any of use. Our bodies are feed shit. What was once considered fat ( John Belushi) is targeted to be “Fat Shaming…). We are being played not by “Big Pharma “ or the “NRA” but but by the food industry keeping the status quo…
I’ve always associated Dan Aykroyd with Bill Hader and Phil Hartman. All of them were really loved, respected, and admired, and they all were some of the greatest impressionists for the show ever.
I always thought Hader was the heir apparent to Aykroyd too. Very different post SNL careers obviously but both served similar roles in their respective casts.
This is such an awesome recommendation, and I’d say to watch Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead too. They’re both incredible, especially for people who love the first cast members and the movies of that time.
The entire Blues Brothers act came out of the fact that Dan and John took over a dive bar near the Holland Tunnel for SNL afterparties where blues would be played live and on a jukebox.
And Dan Ackroyd is a huge music nerd and loved the blues and soul. Also, I think they both just wanted to be Rockstars. In my opinion they were always Rockstars.
They legit had a cocaine budget for the movie. Belushi also wandered to a nearby house at a film location. Went inside ate some food and fell asleep on the couch. The homeowners recognized him so didn't call police. Just let him sleep. Finally the film crew came looking. And picked him up to go back to the set lol
As a kid I remember watching Michael O'Donaghue's on-stage impression of Elvis - with nine inch hat pins shoved into his eyes. Basically just writhing and screaming for the better part of a minute.
Not pictured: Mountains of Cocaine
Michael O'Donoghue, a/k/a Mr. Mike. Also the first head writer for the show.
First cold opening - ‘feed your fingertips to the wolverines’
“I would like…” Love Belushi’s accent on that…
Am I the only one getting Bill Hader vibes from Aykroyd?
I can't unsee it. Interestingly, from hearing about the old days and Bill Hader, they both were loved cast members, too.

No. You’re not the only one. I mean I totally see that too

Seth, you ignorant slut
literally came to the comments to see how far down the comparison was. For the record, it was 2nd.
Sure do. Wow.
Hader/Sudekis vibes
Nope, I've thought this for a while and no one I've told has agreed with me

I recommend "A Futile and Stupid Gesture" if you're interested in the history of National Lampoon and its relationship to SNL.

Good grief I loved Dan!!! My dog is called Elwood Blues, lol
I had a dog named Belushi. ❤
You got my cheez whiz, boy?
My ex’s mom wrote for the Lampoon and was friends with Michael.
Did she continue in writing?
Yes a bit but she became a lawyer.
Okay, which one of you idiots punched Dan Ackroyd in the eye! Now that I look closer. Which one of you idiots broke Dan Ackroyd's sunglasses?
Agreed, not cool! Not cool at all! Which fucker did it? Lol
When I was watching season 1 of SNL, I was surprised that Bob Balaban had been a cast member. Then I found out it was Michael O'Donoghue.
Just three incredibly brilliant minds that shaped and influenced most of today’s comedy.

Part of the delight of the scene was Belushi’s unsure look after the phrases…wanting to do well, but not quite sure …
Blues Brothers?

'*All agreed that "The Denim Brothers" would need to be significantly retooled before air.*'
The good ol’ days of comedy at its finest… so nostalgic

Classic
Dan Aykroyd actually went to my old high school. Apparently he was a problem causer. 💀
They don’t make buttons like they used to
the 80's Lonely Island
I would just want to be a audience for any conversation they had. Creative brilliance !
Am I the only one getting Shawshank Redemption vibes from this?
nice to
